Can you share your approach? I’m randomly doing something different every time and can’t figure it out.

And while you’re at it, what the best way you’ve found to exit the infield before your run to the. Is stop? Those two points are killing me!
For Bus Stop I followed VSQ_Drifter's ghost for entry. He barely has his right tyres on the curb and eats a ton of grass on entry. Break point; just after the black box half way between the 1 and 2 board. I lift off the breaks at about 107 and coast across the first curb, dab on the breaks and get a little rotation to straighten you out and slam on the throttle at 91mph right as you hit curb 2. Avoid the bump on right befor curb 3 or you won't make it around curb 4 and just don't lift.

Here is a video of me doing it L3 and L4 during one race. I also included my infield exit. I dont think I'm best there but the secret I found was, the slower you go before hitting the apex the better. I aim for 54mph right before apex and that seems to get me better speed. In my qualifying lap I dropped to 50, so maybe even slower is better. My break point is right between the two sets of skid marks where that service road takes off to the right.

I suggest watching VSQ_Drifter. He eats WAY more grass than I do on curb 1 and he flys away from me on exit.

It would make people more cautious. If you divebomb someone and get a 20 sec penalty I would brake a lot earlier on Monza T1....
Well yeah, that's the part I covered that would actually be positively impacted from harsher penalties. I don't disagree with that, I'm just saying it won't be a cure for bad drivers, as evidenced by them still existing in any other sim.

From corner 1 this had carnage written all over it. I personally would have held back and let it all unfold in front of me and pick off the pieces. No need to get involved those places are gonna come to me. If not then I live to fight another day in the next race. I'm only a B/S level so I'm not coming from a position of talent.
Thanks. The problem is, I started out 7th, and I really didn't want to lose any more places if I could help it. But hindsight is always 20/20, right? And I'm a B/B right now, so talent, well, it's a relative thing, lol.
Does... nobody in that race know what an actual passing opportunity is? Or a radar?
Apparently the answer is "no". I just DNFed three races in a row, where I didn't stand a chance. Knocked around like a punching bag.

Hey Karma? I get it. I promise to be better. I don't need any more lessons.

For anyone curious what lap 1 looks like in D to A lobbies, here it is. This is why we complain so much about the lack of penalties. Thanks for the post Grumpy. I wish I could say this was a bad example, but it's not, it's just AN example of a typical race. I wish I was fast enough to get into A+ lobbies to see if it's better there. I'm slowly getting faster but my progression has slowed a lot. Now that I'm in A lobbies there is kind of a wall I need to push through.

I'm in higher B/S lobbies on my second account, close to DR A, but not quite there. It's like day and night from these videos. Didn't get bumped once in three races so far, especially T1 in lap 1 has always been clean and respectful from everyone involved.

Maybe that's just an outlier, who knows.

When I dropped down to B/B, it was like that. Just a couple of races as I cruised around at the back, watching the disaster movie ahead. I gladly accepted the tanked DR to get back up to B/S. SR does make a difference, at least in the lobbies I race.

Yes, the higher your rating the racing gets cleaner, there is still always one but it is better.

With the end of this (all in all not so awesome) year only a few hours away and me about to get too drunk to type, I want to wish all you great guys here in the GTP forums, and especially this very thread, a happy new year!

Thanks for all the good fun and the insight. Without you, I wouldn't have learned so much about sim racing, and I surely wouldn't have improved my abilities nearly as much. Well, actually, I probably wouldn't even have started online racing at all, and not me, but my son would be playing the game that he made me buy - for him.😆

Hope to see or read you all in good spirits in 2023! Keep on racing! 🥳🍻👍

The game just simply wouldn't be as fun without this thread.

I hope it's expansion and not more numbers dropping off that we see next year, though my expectations are low.

I will still enjoy seeing the familiar names that pop on here all the time.

I think maybe a good start is to let bad drivers know what counts as “bad driving” by penalizing them. It may not prevent all the problems, but if they are pushing through corners thinking “Man, I’m the best!” And don’t realize that it’s dirty racing, nobody can learn what it means to be a good driver. Penalties won’t ameliorate all problems with dirty drivers, but it certainly would help gives clues to the clueless.

Do you go through the bus stop in 4th gear, or drop down to 3 and back up to get rotation?

I think car damage does a way better job of penalizing bad driving. I completely get that sometimes others might damage your car with no fault of your own, but I feel like it produces better close driving than large harsh penalties. It also slows down the dirty drivers temporarily so you can pass by them faster.

Wall penalties and short cut penalties are definitely necessary, but personally I think for the most part I'm happy with the system as it is right now.

There is no cure for people who just want to ram people out of the way, and people who want to win at any cost.

Some fun at Daily Race B. Almost karma for me, but I managed to live to tell the tale:

I'd like your opinion on the front stripes in my livery for the Ford GT LM Race Car Spec 2. Not the livery itself, just which front stripes you like better - Top pictures or Bottom pictures?

That video was pretty brutal. Yeesh.

Top.

I feel like Daily Race A is pretty fun to do hotlaps for, but I'm very unsure if I should actually try racing. It's a notably powerful car that seemingly requires that you to leave a larger stretch for braking, and when you do brake, you'll definitely want to avoid just slamming them.

I'm thinking it'll be too chaotic to actually race - lemme see what next week's Daily Race A brings, instead.
Why not race? No DR or SR to lose (or gain) so there's really no reason not to.

I only did 1 race at Daytona this afternoon. And it was a good one at least. I knocked a tenth of of my qualifying time down to a 1:56.5XX. I would have liked to get it lower but that bus stop got in my head whenever I had a good run going and messed the whole lap up. Need to work on that for sure the next time this track comes up.

I start P6 with my new time and the race was quite boring actually. Which was fine by be. I essentially ran the entire race in P4 after the leader got spun and another front runner spun on their own on the next lap. I learned that you can get an off track penalty for cutting the turn on the transition from the infield back to the main track. That took me by surprise. I think I lost focus running by myself and not paying attention as P5 suddenly was on my rear in the final 2 laps. I held them off until they just sneak past me at the line as seen here.

I should have tried to break the slipstream they had on me, but they were close enough that it probably wouldn't have mattered. It also would have felt like I was throwing a block that close to the finish, but that's just me. I think they earned that spot since they caught me off guard.

I was going to do more, but I wanted to end the week on a high note. As I said, a fun combo with some good racing when I wasn't getting knocked around. I'll be doing Watkins Glen next week as I need to learn that track properly as well. Plus it's my "home track" and I should spend some time there. Well, virtually in this case.

you know what's awesome? Qualify 5th, be in 4th by the end of the infield, be immediately behind 3rd out of the bus stop, get a good draft, take 3rd through T1, get turned coming out of the little esses after T1 b/c the guy you passed is butthurt. THEN HE QUITS AFTER PUNTING YOU WTF AT LEAST KEEP GOING. UGH.

Well, if I were to put my old self in his shoes, I'd say he quit after he achieved his goal of paying you back for some perceived wrong. Man, what a loser!
lolol I dunno. He was in 2nd after all the punting, I was in 15th. He dropped down to 3rd and then the "player left" message popped up. then I quit because I have to make fondue for dinner tonight :D

If you hit it right, you stay in forth with no problem of getting rotation. Hit it wrong and you most likely hit
3rd for rotation and speed.

At least for me anyways.

Sorry, I may not be much help there. I drive Auto Trans with a controller

Thanks to both of you. I’ve finally found the right line, but I’m not consistent enough yet. And I take it on 4th unless I’m in traffic.

Today was completely different than the rest of the week. I think maybe it’s because there are more people playing, but I was in lobbies with really good driving. I was even P2 behind @Childe Roland before I missed my brake mark and lost some positions.

I’ve given in and am using the GT-R and gained half a second. I’m creeping down towards 1:54.xxx and getting better starting positions. I even had the fastest lap in a couple of races because of the cooperative bump-drafting (instead of trying to draft and pass into T1 like the rest of the week). I had one finish with two other cars within a few hundredths of each other after some great racing. It even seemed like the clean racers were winning and the dirty ones were getting knocked off the track from their own antics, which is how it should always be!

It’s days like today that keep me coming back! Happy New Year everyone, and let’s hope things continue to look better in the upcoming months.

May you keep your quali laps in the blue!

Gr4 on RM sounds fun. Plus with i can squeeze in 3 Race Bs an hour so point gain potential is better. What do we think will be the meta? Alfa or GTR?

Well I celebrated my 66th birthday new years eve @ Daytona with my first WIN in 3 months.
I started sixth and was up to 3rd by the 3rd lap and got 2nd by the fifth. First had
me by over 3 sec and I could never get close to him by drafting, I made up all the time
through the infield and bus stop. Finally caught up to him coming out of the bus stop
on lap nine and he binned it going into T1 for the last lap.

So I won my last race of 2022 at 11:56..........DAMN it felt good!!!!!
Came back with the first race of 2023 battling for 2nd and finished 3rd.

Hope all this carries forward.

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone

Race C looks good to me. Mt. Panorama is one of those tracks that I'm not really good at, but I'll do it anyway, because it's fun.
I'll lose DR points all day, if it's enjoyable. 👍
It's a solid, traditional Sport week, if again unimaginative. Gr 4 at Watkins is a solid drive, expecting the usual GTR dominance there mind but I do love the track enough to run it a good few times. Race A is an old classic for the mode, not the most exciting race but the Mazda is a good drive.. hoping for passing of time in both A and C as driving into the evening in the Roadsters last time at Tsukuba was beautiful visually and the same into the night at Bathurst as gives it a whole different feel and challenge.

Not holding my breath for it though.

Mount panorama is a marvellous gr3 race, if it was in a race B I’d be on it all week, but I’ll be happy with some glen gr4 this week - enjoy!
