Did some practice lobby racing last night at the Glen. Tried a few cars and really liked the Jag. Will probably give it a go. Of the cars I tried, the order in which I liked them are: Jag, Mustang, Aston, Viper. The Viper was really understeery for some reason. I'd like to try the Genesis as well.

Like most, I am so tired of the same three Gr4 cars - and I hate Bathurst - so it'll likely be a 2 account week for me. What's the META car for C this week? GTR again I presume? McLaren was pretty decent last time... still?

Anyone else find it odd how the META car in Gr4, Gr3, and Gr2 are ALL the friggen GTR? Yea, PD ain't playing favorites or anything.

I’ve run 3 slots at Bathurst. Looking like the F-Type and Mustang are strong. RX-V is also doing well. No GT-Rs finishing on podium so far.

On the topic off penalties in daily races I was clearing some space from my game deleting old videos etc... and I came across the video from my first win way back at LeMans when it was Gr2 week.
Found this penalty gem where the car picks up a 3 second penalty just for kissing the rear bumper on the car in front. I forgot how bad the first system was.

Well as i can see from the video, 3 seconds is for leaving the track not hitting the guy. the broken white lines at Circuit de la Sarthe are the track limit lines. you were out of these lines for around 3 secs.

MX5's are always great to bash around Tsukuba but man, this one drives like a dream. Thought it'd be a bit rough on the Comforts but they don't drive any worse than you'd expect Sport tyres to.

Can see myself spending a lot of time here this week. As always - I don't understand why BoP road car races need to have SR/DR disabled, but I think that bridge has long been crossed.
I kinda agree. But I would only have DR/SR off for some weird/unusual races. Like the oval races, well the rallycross race in Nations will be DR/SR off too, I don't mind that.

Well well wasn't actually expecting to be competitive so I will grab that while I can. Greggs mobile for the win.

Haven’t had much success with the WRX in the past but going well here. Down to a low 1:55 lap - there’s a 54 there if I can stop messing up the last 3 corners.

Playing with Alfas again. This was great fun, side by side pretty much the entire last 2 laps and we both survived. How it should be, nice to find a respectful opponent.

Name a better combo: A Mazda Roadster of any sort and Tsukuba Circuit.
mazda roadster and road atlanta
mazda roadster and watkins glen
mazda roadster and daytona road course

basically everywhere the MX-5 Cup races that exists in GT7

If you're a fan of real life motorsports please in 2023 check out the MX-5 Cup races that correspond to the IMSA races on the calendar. Literally some of the best racing on the planet. For example the margin between 1 and 5 at Road Atlanta in 2022 was half a second. First and Second separated by 2 tenths.

I keep forgetting that when I look at the ranking for my qualifying time, it's not comparing myself to the others in my region, but rather, all players across the globe. So in that sense, I suppose I have a real nice time at the moment, being in the top 2k.

Those combinations sound like a lot of fun, too!

First Race B today, unfortunately in the GT-R but I'll be trying other cars. Started 3, finished 5, which isn't bad, except I thought I was on the last lap and took it easy through the final corner only to discover there was one more lap, and I just gave up a position (from 4 to 5). Oh well, lesson learned.

I never have, and probably never will understand the bus stop chicane very well. Every time I think I have it figured out, well, I discover I don't. And getting penalty for just touching the grass with a tire sure sucks.

Anyone have a map with turn names on it, for this track? I can't for the life of me figure out why PD doesn't include turn names in the game, or at least number the turns so we're all on the same page.

Lastly, I remember now that this race always challenged my ability to stay focused through the entire race. Especially after last week's fast and furious action - not that I'm complaining about WG, just that I need a slap in the face a couple of times during the long boring parts. I'm even tempted to turn the music back on!

I must admit to having some great fun at Mount Panorama today. It's certainly a case of know your enemy... My first couple of races were a shambles but after that some careful observation of my fellow drivers and a very slight touch of presumptuousness regarding nationalities yielded me a 5-place climb from P9 to P4

Can anyone explain to me the point of racing cleanly? Don't give me "personal satisfaction of not being a jerk" because that's not going to be enough.
There's zero reward for being a clean driver if you're not also an A or higher in driver rating. Regardless of account, regardless of trying to leave space, regardless of courtesy I am punted, shunted, and otherwise moved out of the way so the car behind me can pass.

I know, you're going to say "HK just go faster/improve qualifying/same old tired excuses for why sport mode is utter *****" and they just don't cut it any more.

I have reached the approximate limit of my skills. I am between a C and B driver by skill. I don't have the time or inclination to grind out practice or qualifying laps to sit on pole just so that I can run the risk of going from front to back instead of going from mid-pack to back.

PD doesn't give a **** about their players, whales are spending the money PD anticipated and the rest of us can rot is the impression that I get.
The Penalty system rewards aggressive driving and punting more than it does clean driving and yielding space when required to do so. I get hit harder by the "binned it into the wall" penalty from being shunted than the person who hit me gets for doing it.

Had a race today, qualified in 8th, kept it clean through the bus stop and into the loop afterwards but a pack of GT-R drivers ran me over on entry to the boot loop area. None of the ones that hit me, and there were three, got penalized for doing so, but me, the guy pushed off track and into the wall drew three seconds because I hit the wall twice.

To me that says "be aggressive, push to pass, the worst that happens is a half second contact penalty".

So fine PD be that way, but when sport mode dies because it's either Aliens who can't be beat or Wreckfest don't come crying to the community because we'll have hoisted the black flag and begun slitting throats ourselves.

Racing Circuits Info for all your circuit map needs. Just type the name of the circuit into the search bar and it'll pop a list of matches. Click the one you want and you can see not only existing layout and names but the layout through the entire history of that specific circuit. Love this site

I was the P4. I saw you going easy and did not understood it ahahahah

Really happy with my wheel progress so far, I thought I'd be dragging behind for a long while but I just set my first time faster on wheel than on pad (comparing across two accounts) with a 52.8 at Watkins compared to a 53.0 on pad.

Hopped back onto the main account and brought it down to 52.808 here as well, but an optimal of a 52.5 leaves me hungry for more. Super encouraging progress, I'm well happy.

I spent the afternoon trying to learn Watkins Glen since I had some time thanks to a day off of work. I'm in the Mustang as usual and it seems good so far. I am having minor problems in the bus stop, but I'm getting through it with out penalties in on a more constant basis. The only other place I'm having some problems is turn 8 as I tend to run a bit too wide and get a penalty. I'm sitting at a 1:55.1XX so far and I know I can get a tenth off of that and barely get into the 1:54 range.

You and me are at about the same level C/B.
I agree with what you say except one thing. The kind of racing you get I get too, in Gr 4 races.
So I race Gr 3. Ap the mountain today I have been punted once by a guy that tried to pass up through the Cutting.
Otherwise none. In 6 races

I drive assertive, defend or show clearly that I will defend. Rarely have any troubles.
So I'll be on the Mountain all week

Congratulations to you and @GaugeForever from a club member of #controllerforeverbecause:reasons 😆

BTW, great monday racing fun in Race A again. My Q time is not bad, two races on my main account, both finished P2, one rather uneventful, one with some awesome and respectful side-by-side action over the course of several laps with a fellow german driver.
Then two races without QT from the back, on my second account, action packed stuff throughout, P6 and P3, respectively. I was able to avoid most of the carnage, seems as if I'm learning...😆

On to Race B tomorrow, but I'll also do some more races A this week, and I absolutely recommend it to everyone.

I hated Daytona last week but ended out having some incredible races and found that I love that track, only to find the opposite to be true this week. After waiting all week for my favorite track, Watkins Glen, I’ve found the Gr4 races to be . . . boring. I’m so disappointed.

To be fair I prefer Gr3 cars, but the circuits the last two weeks have not been agreeable for me. Now I’m already looking to next week and hoping for better. Dang!

Looks like a great site, but I looked up Watkins Glen, and it labeled the Bus Stop Chicane as "Inner Loop". Am I missing something?
Picked up the new logitech direct drive wheel. Joining the direct drive and load cell bros.
That's awesome! I've had it since it came out, and I love it. The one thing I did was remove the clutch (since I'm not racing stick right now) and move the brake over to the clutch spot, to space the pedals out a little to make it easier to use both feet. I'm slightly knock-kneed, so this was a big help for me.

I also changed the brake load cell to one of the softer spacers (or whatever they're called). In GT7 I changed when it senses I'm pressing the pedal in case I rest my foot on it by accident. And I changed GT7 so it considers a fully pressed brake to be something like 95% (or somewhere around there - I don't remember the actual number offhand). This works well for me. YMMV.

And I'm sure you already know this, but there's a topic on this forum where someone from Logitech answers questions. Have fun! But don't get faster QTs.

I have run into the same problem at race B. Until my last 2 races where I got clear air and was able to run hard in the Aston and do well. For what it's worth I started serving people back when I was shoved wide or bumped wide to pass and it didnt ever end well.

And with the current BoP turning Gr4 into a 4wd only class of rotting goat rectum it only amplifies the problem with Gr4 because it has always been the most bumper cars like class in the game.

Honestly, take a break or run some different races. Makes a world of difference when I need it.

Inner Loop is the official name for the Bus Stop there. Sometimes I get official names (like inner loop) confused with obvs names like Bus Stop lol

The only practical pieces of advice I can give you are to try and do Race C if you can. Because it's longer, there's less benefit in punting/pushing a faster driver and you get more time to recover from an off. Also, I'd avoid Group 4 races. The AWD cars reward VERY early throttle on and this often means impatient drivers are simply ploughing through regardless of cars in front or beside.

To be honest, I think a lot of the problems could be improved by nerfing the AWD Group 4 cars rather than a radical penalty crackdown. So many B/C drivers get away with bad habits because the AWDs are impossible to spin. The fact that Gr4 BoP hasn't been adjusted for months is absolutely mystifying. It seems to me the single biggest problem in daily races and it should be so easy to address. I don't get it.

Having today off work and not feeling great, I did a boat load of Race Bs. I was able to find some really fun cars to use.

1) Lexus. This thing drives exactly how I like it (well, as far as Gr4 cars are concerned). Nice rotation with the right amount of trail braking. It's got legs, too, and if you're starting behind a GTR you can get the pass done into T1 without issue (assuming the other person is playing nice). The big V8 doesn't need to spool any turbos. It's very stable through the bus stop as well.

The gearing is also very nice. Even behind a GTR you will gain ground through the esses right after T1 as the Nissan has to do a 4th to 5th shift but the Lexus is already in 5th. You will lose ground once you have to hit 6th in the though but it's likely enough to get the people in front watching their mirrors..

2) The Toyota 86. Yea, that's right. This car eats the bus stop for lunch and spits out the bones (as well as virtually any other turn). It suffers some on the straight but not as bad as I thought it'd be. Mid-140s before the bus stop.

3) The Veyron. If you don't mind giving up ~1.0 seconds per lap, this car actually drives pretty well here. I did one lap in the Veyron for quali and did a 54.7 so that's where I left it which has me usually starting mid-pack. Probably the only fastest Veyron out there.

Welcome to the club. About the only thing I hate more than Gr4 races are races at Bathurst. I love Tona road course but it was so boring in the Gr4 cars I just couldn't get into it. The Glen, for whatever reason, is a little more palatable. Gr3 cars would be - and were - so much better.
