First couple races tonight at Bathurst and this is definitely more like it. The esses in Gr 3 cars are an absolute thrill. Blew the sweeping left before the murder right hander and ended up in the wall. Tried again in the Vette and moved from P7 to P4 in middle Bs. Time around a 2:04.6 which can definitely improve but it's a start. Love the Vette here.

Can anyone explain to me the point of racing cleanly? Don't give me "personal satisfaction of not being a jerk" because that's not going to be enough.
There's zero reward for being a clean driver if you're not also an A or higher in driver rating. Regardless of account, regardless of trying to leave space, regardless of courtesy I am punted, shunted, and otherwise moved out of the way so the car behind me can pass.

I know, you're going to say "HK just go faster/improve qualifying/same old tired excuses for why sport mode is utter *****" and they just don't cut it any more.

I have reached the approximate limit of my skills. I am between a C and B driver by skill. I don't have the time or inclination to grind out practice or qualifying laps to sit on pole just so that I can run the risk of going from front to back instead of going from mid-pack to back.

PD doesn't give a **** about their players, whales are spending the money PD anticipated and the rest of us can rot is the impression that I get.
The Penalty system rewards aggressive driving and punting more than it does clean driving and yielding space when required to do so. I get hit harder by the "binned it into the wall" penalty from being shunted than the person who hit me gets for doing it.

Had a race today, qualified in 8th, kept it clean through the bus stop and into the loop afterwards but a pack of GT-R drivers ran me over on entry to the boot loop area. None of the ones that hit me, and there were three, got penalized for doing so, but me, the guy pushed off track and into the wall drew three seconds because I hit the wall twice.

To me that says "be aggressive, push to pass, the worst that happens is a half second contact penalty".

So fine PD be that way, but when sport mode dies because it's either Aliens who can't be beat or Wreckfest don't come crying to the community because we'll have hoisted the black flag and begun slitting throats ourselves.
Pretty much sums up my experience today. Sad, because I had a day to race. I mostly focused on race B in the Ferrari. I made a mistake and received an appropriate 1 sec penalty. Outside of that, my races were clean, even receiving CR bonuses at times. Second to last race I was in, there were three of us staggered but close into the bus stop - the three of us had raced cleanly for at least a lap but one of the other drivers braked late, punted the other guy, and I went through unscathed - looked at the replay a dozen times from a dozen angles, I did not swap paint.

But I was given a 5 second penalty and lost my S rating. Next race? You guessed it, I am now mid pack with a very unsavory group of drivers. The only thing I can guess is some sort of code issue, but damn this game is hard to tolerate at times. The last time I lost S rating was for passing under a yellow, not for murdery activities. Today, I was negligently murdery once, received a 0.5 sec corner cutting penalty, but outside of that, I was Mr. Clean until the 5 sec penalty. It's difficult to stomach that when I can watch replays of drivers who gain multiple positions in a race, but every positioned gained results in the other driver off the track, and no penalties...

I, too, have done the grind for a better QT so I can hot lap a race for podiums, improve my DR/SR...yada, yada. I got faster, but that speed went quickly when I stepped away from the game for a couple months. Since then, I have maintained consistency, but not speed - consistently slow, I guess.

However, I do take some pride in knowing that I ran a lot of quali laps today in almost every Gr4 in my garage, and most of my lap times were very close. As long as I am not molested off the track, I can gain spaces through clean passes and being consistent. I can keep places by not making 0.5 sec mistakes, and I am slowly getting better at avoiding terminal assaults. So, yeah, I am personally satisfied at not being a jerk - again, managed expectations.

Tsukuba + Roadster is always fun.
Quali time is 1:12:390
But hit 1:10:9xx in race

Should be a fun week if people keep it clean

After some diabolical driving from some people last week at Daytona, hoping Bathurst night be better. Do prefer the gr3's but the gr4 cars are refreshing. Just wish PD could nerf the 4wd cars a bit as it almost becomes a one car race. Most I did was 75% GTR's. Becomes a bit boring. I like to avoid the Meta car as it makes it more interesting. Especially as most just look what's quickest and choose that rather than something more fun. See what kind of destruction derby races we will have this week in race B & C. Love Bathurst, one of my favourite tracks.

Bathurst's definitely cleaner than WG.

Did WG for several hours, assuming Bathurst would be pure carnage.

I was very-wrong. If I had the time again I'd skip Daily Race B altogether.
I really think at this point we're talking about luck of the draw when it comes to how clean B is Vs C.

I was smashed about in both races yesterday evening only to take a break and come back and run a couple of Bathurst's without (much) incident but I'd had plenty of Watkins Glen runs earlier in the day that were clean and respectful, I just don't really think it comes down to the race or track when we're looking at the same small pool of people on a daily basis.

Fair point mate.

Race B is a bit of a lottery, and you'll be lucky if you see another car in Race C - the field spreads out a bit after the inevitable frenetic first lap!

First Race C I did yesterday had a wide spread of QTs. The guy on pole had a time 1.5 secs quicker than anyone else, and he finished 35 seconds ahead of P2, which is not bad going for a 10 lap race.....

P3 was the best I could manage.

Daily B - is they anything more duller to drive the GTR? Ive driven the GTR very little in Gr.4s as I never liked and due to the WRX & 155 dominating in the other races I tend to skip the Gr.4 races. This week I decided to jump on daily B as I love Watkins Glen. Used the GTR and it’s just a dull boring car right? Set a 1.54.1 lap time and optimal was about 1.53.5 but just can’t hook it up yet. Race only had time for two race, 1st race got destroyed by someone blatantly pit manoeuvre on me on T1. The replay you can clearly see the left inputs to take me out. 2nd race had a good battle for P4 with 4 other cars. Came out in Pt in the end.
Want to race here more this week but I need to find something more excitable to drive. Don’t thonk I can drive that GTR all week.

Daily C - not raced yet at this track as I want to get back up to speed with the mountain. Did about 2 hours in TT and set a 2.02.3 lap. Again optimal is 2.01.xxx but can’t get a clean lap in. From what I’ve seen they are two possible strats 3/7 or 4/6. Hopefully will get a few races in today.

Qualified for WG at 1.54.093. Jumped into some races and picked two Pole/FL/Victory in C/D lobbies. Very boring lobbies without A/B drivers. I guess I'll do some practice in the Mustang while I wait for people to show up this morning

Chin up mate at least we're not playing F1 online

keys to Race B seem to be....

1. Nail the chicane
2. Be very good at trailbraking
3. Don't touch a single blade of grass
#3 got me in one race last night. Was going into the last turn with 2 or 3 other cars around me. I was on the outside and barely put my left front into the grass. Went from P4 to back of the pack after a quick spin.

Did 4 race B’s last night. Fairly enjoyable so far, but I can see myself getting bored of it by the end of the week.

Race B this week could be very good but for the OP of the GTR, I use the F-type so take slightly different lines and have slightly different braking points, but drivers using the meta don’t seem to bear this in mind at all, this makes me think some of the aggressiveness isn’t malicious. However, there was one incident with a TT that made my blood boil I start 5th and get a good exit out of t1, I keep right as we sweep left to have the inside for the kink right with momentum to be a length ahead by the bus stop. The TT squashes me onto the grass and against the barrier I lose all momentum and get a barrier collision penalty. Trying to catch up to the battle for 5th I keep making mistakes and getting .5 track limits, so in short someone defending a lost position on a straight ended my race on lap 1. Bad driving happens but I can’t stand bad sportsmanship!

Did some race B this morning. First time ever I found someone from this thread, well, before he flew off in the distance @RacingGrandpa. Thankfully all races have been really clean so far. (B/S rated)
Sorry, didn't see you. Are you sure it was me? There's at least one more Grandpa racing in EMEA. What car was it? If it was a McLaren it could be me.

Edit: not me. Haven't raced yet today...

Agree. Most of the time its lack of awareness from people and not driving to the conditions in front of them. If I’m following a car closely, I will always be cautious and brake a few meters before the normal braking point to make sure I don’t rear end the car ahead. But most don’t do this and just use there normal brake points, which then end up with dive bombs that won’t come off or they rear end people.

edit: I’ll hold my hands up and say Im not 100% perfect and I’ve fallen foul to this lack of awareness and rear ended people.

I've been guilty of this before - not realizing the car in front has to brake earlier. Live and (hopefully) learn.

I had some good (but boring) races in A lobbies last night. This morning I got into a lobby ranging from A to C. All the A guys were up front and I was around P7, and of course at the bust stop I got torpedoed by two of the C drivers from the back who used me for their brake. It happened again on lap 3. So while there is some luck of the draw, there is also some absolutely predictable behavior. I didn’t bother with any more races this morning because I don’t expect any different results than giving all my DR points to undeserving drivers.

I wish I had your boring C drivers in my races! I wish I could just leave them behind to deal with each other, but that dang bus stop chicane makes it too easy for them to plow right through the good drivers in order to gain positions.

The GT-R is clearly dominant, but maybe try the Genesis for something different but still 4WD. But if you want exciting, go for the Mustang! I keep setting faster laps with it (only to then too then with the GT-R) and it’s just fun to drive. The Cayman is rock solid but can’t keep up. The Lexus is also rock solid (thanks @Talon16 for that hint) and should do well in an actual race. I’ll keep qualifying in the GT-R, but I’m going to switch around to different cars in the actual races just to avoid the boredom.

Like I said yesterday, I’m so disappointed and am already looking forward to next week’s races.
