You're at 24:7, I'm just looking at the rankings. For me, it's a 25:1 so far in the Alfa. As soon as I touch the grass, it's gone - or I get a penalty. PS4 controller, I really wish I had a wheel just for that d@mn first sector...
But I won't stop until I'm below 25. And I'm not touching the WRX for that.

Oh ****, what have I just said?😬😆

Edit: Oops, I just did it. 1:24:989. That will do for the week.
When MX-5 Cup was the daily at Road Atlanta I was on controller. I struggled mightily to get things smooth in sector 1. 2 and 3 weren't too bad. Now that I'm on a wheel Sector 1 is an absolute breeze.

I haven't set a qualifying time yet, probably won't do that until later in the week. I want to start some races from the back for a while first

Well just found out something I never knew today. Apologies if people already knew about this but..
Just jumped on to set a TT on Daily C, and I was way off the pace. Now I never follow ghosts as the ones that are on the ranking board are quicker than me it’s pointless following. Any way after a bit of searching Ive just found that you can download people’s ghost from showcase options. You just need to add the lap to your collections and then in the daily tt go to ghost options and then you can upload it to your TT.

I will try and upload my ghost now every week for everyone to use. I might not be fastest but hopefully it will give people around my similar times something to chase.
Daily C I’ve set a 1:55:8. Might be able to find another few tenths, but just can’t hook up that perfect lap. Tricky track Nurburgring GP

Don't usually follow ghosts but I may have to make an exception here, especially it's not an alien lap. Can never figure out sector 1 on my own - corners 2 to 5. The rest of the lap is ok-ish. I think I was around a high 56 last night in the Merc but that was a non-BoP TT.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Hmm, something seems off. I can’t put my finger on it, though. :P

The problem is I don’t remember much of it! I like to blame the cancer medication I take, but that’s a fake excuse: I never remembered anything before the medication either! 🤡
My brother and I call that "CRS" - Can't Remember Squat" (or words thereabout). Sorry about the cancer stuff, but I hope the meds are helping. My brother is about to go at it for the third time, so I feel you.

i didn't know that. Thanks. I couldn't upload my ghost to ranking boards. I'm saving "the best lap" but i couldn't find any upload options. I'm also sharing it and selecting "all" option but it doesn't appear on the rankings board

So far, I am terribly disappointed with this weeks daily races. I still have PTSD from Monza's CoD, so I'm not touching that. Race C is a bunch of almost getting going, then stopping for a turn, then almost getting going, then stopping for a turn, makes me motion sick, and it's too many laps to keep my focus.

Which brings me to race B, for which I had hope. But after getting to use Gr.3 cars on RMs last week on a track designed for speed, they give us Gr.4s on RHs on a track that says "Speed? Try the straight on the back of the track - you can crawl along in a straight line while you wait for your pathetically underpowered car to try to reach top end, while I run the Zamboni to ice the rest of the track." It feels like riding a bike with training wheels on ice compared to last week, where the cars actually went "zoom zoom".

Add to that the fact that I totally suck on this track, and I don't have a lot of incentive to get better because experiencing track limit penalties on every corner where I try to find a faster line, then restarting and trying again is like Groundhog Day - "When is this day ever going to end?"

I hope I change my mind later on - it's happened before. But right now, I'm living up to my name. Hurumph.

Let us know how it went, or how it’s going. I’ve just done three now and it’s exactly what I had envisioned in my mind. Quite the carnage, a combo of the track and T1 of course and the car which for many is a bit of a handful, that much is already very clear.

I slow down/stop in the start and let all other 11 cars go into T1 on their own and pick up positions on every lap after that, doing my utmost to avoid contact, predict people’s mistakes. 2nd, 2nd, 1st so far.
Gonna do my best even if I come last the important thing is to try and finish and not messup anyone's race if I can achieve those then it was a good first race.
Clearly I missed a memo

It's like a Minions GP out there at Monza.
LOVE IT

Got my custom livery on my p1 gtr gonna have my inaugural race a little later tonight. :)

SO NGP one of my stronger tracks even though I don't really handle understeer well and this track is all about mitigating understeer. As usual, a lot of variety on the leader boards. I just tried a few cars, started with the two MR ones then tried my traditional RWD favourites.

RSR: Felt terrible, I can never trust this car on entry the ham fisted way I drive, without control over BB this car always feels like it will slide on me, costing me time. The gearing in AT also feels rubbish. But the time was there, best of 56.1 and optimal 55.7.

McLaren: Felt FANTASTIC other than again the gearing, it doesn't want to change down, so annoying. Could not wring a time out of it though, best of 56.6 and optimal 56.1

Supra: My go to car. .Felt fantastic as i always, i have such confidence in this car, can dive it into corers and the best AT gearing bar none. Time not there though, best and optimal 56.3

Z4: This car lacks top end but shoots out of corners. Rear end a bit sketchy over the chicane but she stops, pitches and points really well. Best 55.6, optimal 55.4. I think the ability to slide the rear a touch under power is helping this car rotate.

I'll try the Lancer, Audi and FT1 as well.

So tyre wear, are the MR cars much better than the RWD ones? I know the Supra EATS front tyres.

Really recommend Tidgney's video for the lap guide @GrumpyOldMan lots of helpful hints in it. I was worried about the race before but 2 wins in a row and top 6 in the other 2 this afternoon has me signing the vids praises!!
I wish!
I set a qualifying time of 1:25:9xx for a grid slot of 2nd in my lobby. By Lap 2 I was dead last because the guy who started first kept backing me up during T1 and the esses into P3 who then punted me because I wasn't going as fast as he was. I then caught back up to 8th by lap 5 through passes, penalties, and attrition, and what happens? Guy goes off track and swerves into me trying to come back on track, which forces me to cut the corner through impact, which gives me a penalty, but he wasn't done losing control of his car b/c he hits me again and blammo into the barriers for another 1.5 second penalty.

Quit that race because why bother my DR/SR hit has already happened, might as well stop.

So my question is this: If starting top 2 isn't good enough to avoid the punters/rammers how does one actually avoid them and continue gaining DR/winning races?

Might borrow a page from Grumpy and sit this week out of the racing is going to be that horrific

Yes, the MR should be more gentle on the tires than the RWD if only because the weight distribution is more advantageous.

Sounds like nightmare of a race @hollowkatt. You cant legislate for clowns. Sounds like you had pace though so that is a positive you can take. Fingers crossed you get some cleaner races this week.

I watched it, and it only sligthly helped.

This happened a lot to me last week, so I know what it feels like. Honestly, if I were in your shoes, I'd "gently guide him off the track" and take over P1. He'll learn real quickly that he needs to up his game there.

I didn't say I'm giving up. I took some time off and just finished a decal for "Dug" the dog from the movie "Up" (if you didn't know, my avatar is Carl from Up):

And I added him to my livery:

This is the kind of thing I do when I need a break. And I'm well aware I'm not the artistic genius some of the people on this forum are, but I don't care. I enjoy doing it, and it gives me pleasure when I see it in a race.

yeah I'm going to maybe do some more qualifying and get really comfortable with the car and then come back to races. I haven't set a time for Race C yet. Might set one might just run from the back and see if that's any fun

So I believe it will only show the top x people. If you qualify within that top x and share the best lap in showcase it will become useable. If you’re outside that top x then you can upload the best lap but it won’t show as an option. People have to search for it first on the showcase section then when they go back to sport mode they can add it to the session. I can send you a video clip showing what to do if needed?

I only use the ghost to learn the first corner. After that it is usually to far away to be of use....

You already said it yourself in a previous post: maybe you should try a different car. I'd recommend the Alfa. Yes, it feels a bit like a rhino on roller skates at first, but it is actually more forgiving than some other cars, so you're able to correct mistakes and stay on the track. And it has good brakes. Braking a bit earlier that I would have normally done, and then accelerating earlier, is what worked for me.

And also, this combo might need some extra patience (read: practice laps) until you've figured it out. At least that was my approach.

Concerning the actual races, I had some very different experiences today:

Four races from the back on my practice account, DR C / SR B-C lobbies, to find out where to overtake and how to navigate this track in traffic: complete ****show. Not a single driver accepted being overtaken, not even once. When I had a run and was passing someone on one of the straights, I got sideswiped off track. The worst offender hammered the side of my car five times in less than 3 seconds, until I finally landed in the barrier - as did he. When I overtook drivers in a braking zone (cleanly), they bombed me in the next braking zone. That happened several times. Only exception was a spaniard, which I met far behind the pack in one race, and we had a good battle (for P12!) in the final three laps.

Then three races on my second account, B/S lobbies with some DR A drivers, half-decent quali time, and three great, clean and fair races. P3, P2, P1. Even the A drivers, which I had often found to be over-aggressive in these mixed lobbies, drove fair and cleanly (at least as far as I can tell, they were all some seconds behind me :D )

Thanks to race A, I now loathe the P1.

Never again.
But you liked it earlier? What happened, dude? I’ve had a couple of dodgy ones as well but man, this is one of the greatest daily A so far, in my opinion. It drives like a dream, this McLaren. Track could be better but I guess we can’t always have it all.

Couldnt agree more. This race is disappointing to me too. After the great race we had here in the Manufactures Cup a few weeks ago, this time it’s just a boring 1 make race. Is the WRX the most boring car to drive? Tried in the time trial and I just didn’t like the car at all. Felt sluggish out off every corner and didn’t want to turn for me. Set my fast lap in the Aston Martin so far, which I used in Manufactures, but it will get destroyed in this race against the WRXs. Might have to try the Lambo as thats the only 4wd car I like to drive.

Track limits are a bit of a joke this week. Road Atlanta has a few really harsh track limits were you can’t even go 1mm over the yellow track limit line, yet you jump to Daily C where Nurburgring has virtually no track limits. That T4 corner at NGP were you can basically put the car 1-2 metres past the whistle track limit line.

Yes, that middle chicane at the Monza is nerve-racking cause i'll always hit that strange debris on the side-road. Michigan Atlanta is a shorttrack so I would think that would be the more ideal race where the driver can pull out more victories depending on their qualifying time.

That P1 is a wiley little beast, eh? It's pretty ruthless to drive at the start of the race with that battery going, it absolutely flies but spits you out if you make a single mistake.

Quite fun with the battery dying mid race too, the dynamics and braking points of the car change completely. I think I've had about half the grid each time just die as some people start braking later and others forget and cause a wee pileup 50m before the new braking zone.

Man, Race A has so much potential. If we - collectively - can just get through that first chicane! I did probably five of them this evening and every time it was a clustereff through that first chicane. Like, cars flying everywhere... so much more so than the Gr3 cars there. More than a couple of times, I was one of them flying.

But, if you can get through that chicane and enough other people can too (to, you know, have a race) then it'll be fantastic.

I got a couple wins, but not really the way I wanted to. First one I got smashed into T1 so far that I got reset. But, most everyone else got wasted too. When I came out of T2 I was in P5. Going through the second chicane two cars hit each other and went off, so now I was P3 but P2 & P1 both had 5 second penalties. Ended up getting both of them through Lesmos 1 & 2 respectfully as they went a bit wide. By the time they served their pens I was up by almost double digits. Drove the next five laps by myself.

A different win was looking nice as I actually made it through the first chicane relatively unscathed. Started P1 going in and despite some carnage, was able to hold P1 coming out. Thing is, P2 & P3 must've crashed each other going into the second chicane and it was another lonely drive to the checkers.

That's what I meant by this combo is so contingent on that first chicane. Even if you make it through, some other people need to as well or it's just open laps regardless of what position you're in.

My quali time is 39.2 I think and was 48th when I set it. A ton of time to be had as I am sure I am going to drop like a stone as the week gets older. I felt like an idiot as I did a handful of laps getting a 39.6 before I realized you have to manually operate the DRS. :ill:

Just realized that the win in the white car was my 150th on the primary account.

Road Atlanta has simultaneously the worst and also worst track limits. T3 is incredibly tight on limits and it's tricky to get fast and right each time through. otoh the esses up the hill are so brokenly bad that you can be literally off track 99.9% with a pixel of tire on the curb and you're fine in fact that's the preferred fast line like what the heck lol

@GrumpyOldMan it's not as fun competing for times if you're not interested. This is low level teasing please don't be mad at me :D

I totally understand, and I agree! But unless I wake up tomorrow suddenly understanding the track, I'm gonna stop bashing my head against the wall. I'm not sure what else to do this week, because I'm addicted to my Race B fix, and everything else is just plain boring to me. Honestly, it's kind of depressing.

I may actually have to start work on some of my honey-do list items. And if that doesn't tell you how much I hate this, then nothing will. And I'm being 100% serious!
