Racing with @Bullwinkle, a guy pitted me during the race, causing me to finish last. I asked him why:

Since he wanted me to check the replay, let's do just that, shall we??? 1 minute video (very minor profanity):

Yeah, I hate to break it to you, but as soon as I saw your time, which I applauded by the way, on my very next Q lap, I set 1:51.354 which was almost a half second better than my previous high. In the RC F, btw.

I swear, as soon as I saw your time, I thought "I can do better than that", and then I did! It was one of the few times for a QT that I've raised my arm and punch the sky with a whoop and a grin!

That was hands down the dirtiest lobby I was in all day. I don’t look very good in your video clip because I knocked a guy sideways, but I was in a ridiculous scrum up ahead of you and you can clearly see my car bounce backwards from someone, and I was fighting just to stay on the track. I probably deserved to lose some spots, but I was well ahead of the wolfpack until some people shoved and punted their ways around me before that carousel, dropping me from P4 to whatever that was.

That dude who knocked both of us off was rated A/C the previous few races. I don’t know why players like that are in my lobby with A/S drivers. I mean seriously, what’s the purpose of an SR rating when they drop those guys into a good lobby to blow things up? The B/S drivers were better than that guy, so replace him with one of those guys! Sheesh! I had been enjoying some of the cleanest racing I’d ever had before, so when I talked myself into “just one more,” I figured I’d regret it. And I wasn’t wrong.

I was watching you get murdered the whole first lap! What was that penalty in turn 1? Did you get caught in the slipstream and rear end someone? That happened to me yesterday.

I’ve been beat up hard by Grumpy’s friend previously as he was the one that went full meltdown on me a few weeks back. Definitely needs an attitude adjustment before racing.

I finally got to race with grumpy and shouted out at the start. Was on my alt as deputy fishtail. I got rough housed in the first few turns and fought back from p16 up to p13 to finish. That was the first bumper car race I had in B today and was having fun clean races up until that one.
Did one more and had better time of it placing p6 but had to battle a road warrior to get it in the final turn by cutting back after he tried to dive bomb me. Fun times.

I feel fortunate to have more clean race than not this afternoon.

Was first time trying the mustang and got qt below 52 finally. 1:51.9 is all I got.

Man that is high on those numbers. I have the Thrustmaster 300 and I'm 4 & 2 , any more than that and I'm
fighting with the wheel to hang on.
I’m on rs t300 and I found 2 / 5 is much more to my liking. I changed from 4 / 2 previously as of a couple weeks and I wouldn’t go back.

Hmmm I'll just have to give that try and see what it's like
I assume 7/7 defaulted for me, I'm going to adjust downwards this evening after the kiddo goes to bed and see what I think about that.
I think though I'm already accustomed to a heavier wheel because the WRX STI in real life is a heavy hydraulic assist steering wheel so jumping into a heavy wheel for GT7 felt normal to me. It is weird for me to drive my GFs car, it's normal electric assist steering lol

Yeah, I rear-ended someone on T1 of Lap 1. I kept forgetting to give enough room for the first turn. Got a 3 second penalty, and you better believe I'll remember that lesson!
I finally got to race with grumpy and shouted out at the start.
A lot of times I don't respond to chats, because I'm so slow at typing (even with a keyboard because it's in an awkward position). Sometimes I even turn off chat, so I don't get distracted. So if I didn't reply, don't take it personally.
I haven't set a new time since my 1:51:989... you ok there? :D
My wife was calling me down to dinner, and I misread the leaderboard. I realized it when I got back on tonight, but by then it was too late. No drugs or alcohol involved, though - just the sweet smell of homemade pizza waiting for me.

I do not like Alsace.
I do not like it with a van. I do not like it in a can. I do not like it forwards. I would not like it with more boards. I do not like it backwards. I would not like it with placards. I do not like it fast. I do not like it with gas. I do not like it slow. I would not like it with a bow.

Did I make my point!? lol.

One thing on the turns in any race: in general if your front bumper is alongside the leading car's door and you're on the inside, you have the right to pass. If the other car turns into you, it'll ghost. You must share the road if necessary, this means braking a bit sooner.
If you're further back, you do not have that right and you need to brake a hair sooner. You may not even split the track, you must yield the entire width to the
leading car.
If you're on the outside and your bumper is even with or ahead of the leading car's door, brake a bit sooner and aim to apex in the middle of the road. This gives them room to race. They'll probably pull away, but this prevents a crash.

You know what would make that pizza even better? Drugs and alcohol 🍻

I just got out of a couple of races with @GrumpyOldMan this morning. Always fun to see GTP members in races! The first race I looked like someone who hadn’t raced since yesterday afternoon. Then a miracle happened: I ran a couple practice laps and my time decreased by two tenths or so. I started P3 next race and finished first when the other two had various mishaps. It was my first win in a while, and in a non-meta car (although I guess the 911 is like honorable mention).

The lesson I’m reminded of from several months ago, and which I had forgotten: when driving with racers of equal ability, just be patient. By hanging back a bit at P3 I was able to capitalize on a couple of mistakes. I did this yesterday as well because the lobbies were full and equally matched.

The real problem is when the lower SR guys inexplicably show up, or the lower ranked guys who are either pushing a bit too hard or are simply trying to prove something (and failing).

So now I’m midway through DR A again. I’m going to try not to flame out this time like I did last time! Plus, next week’s races look pretty appealing so I won’t be bleeding points again (I hope). I’m just trying to enjoy clean racing when I can and avoiding the trash when it blows in. I think I proved to myself that I can hang with A lobbies, so I can relax and just go where it leads me.

We’ll see how I feel next week. I may have another existential collapse . . .

I finally stopped beating my head against this track. I don't have the skills (yet) to not keep f*#king up and loosing places in a race. I did have two races early in the week where a driver all but threw a live grenade into my car. It pissed me off and made me laugh out loud.

It was great to see you in those races! Felt weird to have you starting behind me in the first one. I started P3 and ended up P6 because I threw it away right near the end. In the second one I finished P12, which is why I'm on my computer right now instead of racing.
Then a miracle happened: I ran a couple practice laps and my time decreased by two tenths or so. I started P3 next race
When we got in the second lobby, I had to do a double-take when I saw you in front of me. Well done you!

Hanging back is my thing. I just is to try to drive the track as well as I can, and if the people in front hand me a gift, I'll take it.

Awesome! I'm still hanging on at around 11%, with the hit I took finishing 12th. I wouldn't have minded the 12th so much, except I drove so poorly that it almost physically hurt.
We’ll see how I feel next week. I may have another existential collapse . . .
Here's to hoping that if we experience any slumps, they're short and maybe we can learn a few lessons! See you on the track.

I am thinking A will be very fun next week. Just did some TT laps around Monza in the P1 GTR and it's a fun combo. The car drives pretty good but if you push it too hard it will spin... just as it should be. One thing I noticed was the electric motor would run out after a couple of laps. So it will be interesting to see how that effects the cars during the race. Obviously speeds and braking points will change on the fly.

This was without the BoP on, but I have high hopes.

My hybrid power ran out after about 4 laps in practise, was then 20mph slower into turn 1.
Will have to figure out how to keep a bit of charge or the last few laps will be bad.

I gave 4/4 a shot last night and it felt a bit too light. I did like how responsive the steering felt but found myself over rotating easier than with the values set to 7/7. I bumped them up to 5/5 and that feels like the sweet spot for me.

@GrumpyOldMan I know I have enough pace in the Lexus '17 to beat your time. What I don't have is the time to learn the car well enough at this circuit to beat your time. We're remodeling the basement to add some bedrooms and I got put on destruction duty lol

You win this week but I'll get you next week! Are you planning on doing the GR.3 at Nurburgring or GR.4 at Road Atlanta?

Shoutout to the German in this clip. I know I went a bit wide into the turn but I was not expecting to be passed, certainly not cleanly (as they love to stick a nose in on the tightest sector just to try and force your mistakes) so credit to the driver, great pass.

I was quickly searching for reasons to be angry about it but had to accept it in the end

That's just a little love tap, good door to door racing

Did 2 laps with each car for Road Atlanta with Group 4 and RH tires (no BoP settings, just standard settings) and seems it will be a clear, one-make event next week...

Appreciated.

The tap only even happened because he jumped me so well I didn't realise he was there when I started to turn, but I didn't have any issue with the pass or the small contact. I immediately stopped and gave space when I noticed.

Especially in racing games we need to accept it will rarely ever be completely clean due to the limitations of the medium, our FOV etc. so I don't get too bothered when it gets a bit bumpy.

You can feel the difference between proper 'contact' and two cars bumping just because it's difficult to tell 100% where each other is while moving at speed, likely at tight angles.

Or at least we should be able to feel that and expect it to happen.

Small ramble but thanks for the chance to wax on it.

To sum up the week, I did some laps (a lot, to be fair) in the GT-R at Alsace, to see if it is really the META.

Seems like it is. Got to a 1:50:7 in the end, which brought be into the top 1000 globally. Which has never happened before in Gr3.

But I absolutely hate how that car drives. I can't get into a flow with it, unlike the Aston Martin, the Lexus or some others. It just seems to wait for my mistakes to punish me, and the ratio is around five bad laps for one good one. So I don't trust it and don't dare to use it in the actual races.

A bit weird, isn't it?😆

yeah that's basically what I was finding. If I put together all my "best sectors" in the GT-R my time is in the high 1:50s, but I can't string together all my best sectors because the car wants to kill me on acceleration. The Aston and Lexus are the same way. The WRX/BRZ are amazing to drive around here and I got into the mid 1:51s with both of them. The 911 RSR got me to a low 1:51.

Anyone have test times for Road Atlanta for GR.4? I'm getting into the mid 1:27 pretty much no matter which car of the "meta group" I select. But also in the Aston so ymmv I guess? lol

Sometimes real life intervenes. Doesn't seem fair!

I only ever do Race B. Race A with no DR/SR doesn't appeal to me. Race C is too long for my attention span. I know the offline money grinds are long too, but I can pause them in the middle. I don't know why PD won't let me pause an online race.

I don't see any problem with qualifying in one car, and racing in another. Sure, you might be slower during the race, but unless you're P1, flat-out speed alone isn't usually going to win the race. Although I suppose the higher your DR gets, and the faster you qualify, that might change depending on who you get paired with. But I'll take a car I can control consistently over one that makes me pull my hair out. After all, if it isn't fun, what's the point?

That's my 2-cents, anyway.

I'm driving like I really don't want to stay in A:

But I managed to hold on by the skin of my teeth. Done for this week.

Details on how this information was obtained can be found here.
Any idea which race you’re doing next week? I think Atlanta with Gr4 is going to be a 4WD punt fest, so I’m going with Nurburgring. That’s the first track where I found some success in online racing, and I’m looking forward to an actual strategy that isn’t fuel-saving.

I’d like to do both races, but I’m at the level now where I can’t really dabble at both without tanking. So I feel like I need to focus all my time on one race. Plus the more laps on Race C will help pad my SR (if all goes well).
