Next week's Le Mans Gr.4 race C test results:

I tested every Gr.4 car this morning at Le Mans. It was just a speed test.
I recorded each car's top speed on the Mulsanne Straight.
I useded high speed BoP, with no wind.
Some of the results are surprising. Both good and bad.

Mind you, these are only the top speeds. Slipstream in the race will mostly mitigate these figures. However, they will be a factor in qualifying, and when you find yourself separated from the pack, in the race. Handling, will of course, overcome some of the speed margins, but that is hard to quantify.

At the very least, this should help you to know which cars not to waste your time with. 👍

I'm not sure I follow, or that you've picked up on what minisplits are.

To see what I mean, go do a qualifying lap anywhere, then crawl round the next lap. Every time your gap updates (the blue or red timing difference figures), that's a minisplit. It happens every few dozen yards.

While a regular lap contains 3-4 splits/sectors, it could contain 50+ minisplits.

If you go off-track and pass between two minisplits faster than you "should", you get a penalty. Previous minisplits aren't relevant, so I don't see what a bad T1 has to do with cutting T2 when you'll have passed at least three minisplits between them and the penalty system only cares about your time through minisplits while off-track.

It's also gameable; it was the basis of the Goodwood cheat - you could cut the chicane, but then had to swerve across the track between two minisplits so that the game didn't recognise the return to track and give you a penalty.
Thanks. yes, I was trying to figure out how people are gaming the system. I can see racers cut a corner, gain an advantage, without incurring a 0.5 sec penalty. I can't remember which circuit, but to get into the top split in quali, it required exceeding track limits.

I don't know how reliable it is at detecting "advantage gained". Seems to me it's possible to get punted, exceed track limits, lose time through the corner, and still get a penalty - because during that minisplit, right after getting punted, I was a naughty boy?

No need for further explanation, I get it. It's the best possible solution given the parameters.

Yeah it's like they confuse/trick the system and get away with it, while the rest of us don't. But that's life and how it's supposed to be when you're racing I suppose so I'm not sweating it anymore.

Is that factual track limits, or just opinion?

Some tracks - and moreover some corners on some tracks - have absolutely ludicrous track limits, whereas others are extremely generous. The top drivers, like velociraptors, test these limits over and over again to see where they are, and aren't. If you're not getting a penalty, the game does not consider that you have exceeded track limits.

If the punt causes overspeed and you pass through the minisplit too quickly while also being offtrack you will get a penalty, yes.

Preferably on the top half of the players in the race.
Actually, it's much more complicated than that. In one race I finished P10 and gained some DR. In another I finished P6 and actually lost DR. But striving to finish as high as you can is probably a pretty good goal.

if it is okay with you I will sent you a request also, is it DAGMARE in capitals?
It's actually "dagware" ("w" not "m") and sure, friend away!

I wrote it down, I'll add you later. I wish the lobbies wouldn't mess up half the time, see I need to get my level up to at least a B/C to participate in lobby events!

So the Suzuki Swift the car to be using then next week 🤣🤣🤣

How did you test this? I didn’t think you select which BOP tyre to use?
I did a quick test yesterday on 4/5 cars and my top speeds are a little different to yours. Had equal conditions on too. Ferrari hit 164mph, RCF 163 mphs, McLaren 163 mphs and GTR 161 mphs (I think). I found Ferrari & Lexus were the quickest over the lap. I’m going to retest my cars again as you got me questioning my results.
Also the race starts at 6pm according to the Nankai.

Almost had a 1st at road Atlanta. I got the run on 1st place out of the last corner on the last lap. I was on the outside, I had the speed to take the outside so I rode the outside of the track. Dude just straight up pushed me off. Ended up 4th and one of the guys behind said they saw it and agreed he pushed me off.

There are no clean races. You are either miles ahead or it's dirty, nothing in between. Oh, and he didn't get a penalty, I DID, for hitting the wall he spun me out into. Amazing. I saved the replay, but what's the point. I am so furious right now. I started second and fought the entire lap and kept it very clean to finally get first but he says nope, gets the win, no penalty. I could have punted him or pushed to pass so many times and didn't because I'm a clean racer. In the last seconds of the race it didn't matter to him. Knowing this game he probably got clean race too. This is why I stopped playing for a few weeks, THE DAY I come back and this. I really wish ACC had actual players on console, it is MILES ahead of this game in terms of clean racing.

Factual track limits? By that I guess you mean if PD assigns a penalty, it's factual? Versus an observation/opinion that all my wheels are over the line but PD did not assign a penalty? Not being snarky, just clarifying.

I get testing those limits to get faster lap times. Find the weakness, exploit.

Wasn't there a time recently when a bump from the rear that sent the bumpee off track got the bumper a 2 sec penalty? Seems I remember some YTers discussing how to exploit that when defending. I liked that more than the current state because it was a lot harder to fake a punt than punt...just like 'Merican football.

If it's any consolation mate I just held first practically the whole race to get bumped into second at the end.

Yep.

Even in real motorsport, the standard "rule" of the white lines defining the edge of the track is not a rule - and it's one a lot of fans get wrong. The rule is "for the avoidance of doubt, the white lines define the edge of the track", and that means "when you aren't sure where the limits are, it's the white line". Race stewards tell the drivers where the limits actually are in the driver briefing, and it can be different from corner to corner on the same track - and in different events on the track in the same meeting; F1 may have different limits to F2, and Porsche Supercup may be different to both.

GT reflects this to an extent, in that the track limits are kinda all over the place and different from corner to corner, but they're set for all races and nobody tells you where they are... You can't even touch the white line in some corners (Indianapolis at Le Mans), but you can cut a corner by over a car's width in others (Lago Maggiore T4).

The best GT players run lap after lap after lap, testing the limits and getting penalties (or not) repeatedly until they know what's allowed and what's not.

Ultimately what you might see as exceeding track limits, for whatever reason, is not a de facto breach of track limits unless a warning or penalty is given for it.

Wasn't there a time recently when a bump from the rear that sent the bumpee off track got the bumper a 2 sec penalty? Seems I remember some YTers discussing how to exploit that when defending.
Not necessarily recently but in GT Sport it was certainly possible to get the guy who hit you a penalty by driving into something or off track. That's not directly related to how the game calculates penalties for corner-cutting through minisplits though.

That's a lot of laps man, what time are you posting? Do a video of a good lap for us so we can help. I will nominate a few areas though.

Sector 1: This is a garbage bit of road, all of it. Cut the endless left hander as hard as you can, you need to see a 36 flat in qualy or you're off the pace.

Final Chicane: TONS of time here, TONS. I am a master at it, gaining 3 to 5 tenths on A+ guys at times. Enter early and HURL yourself over the kerbs and on the gas as you land, no rest.
I'm posting a video of my fastest lap. I ran a bunch this morning but only improved by a couple tenths. My optimal time is down to 1:54.5xx but I haven't broken the 1:55 barrier yet. Have a look and see if you can locate my rough spots. My chicane, by the way, was not very good on this one and I still posted my fastest time. As usual, I never could come close again though.

Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Edit: I’m driving the Porsche.

a perfect example of "lines don't define" is at Watkins Glen short when NASCAR goes there. Coming out of the Outer Loop (big sweeping right hander) instead of staying within the white lines they'll drift all the way out to the wall and the sanctioning body says that's ok.
Likewise into T1 you can do this without penalty:
Look at the car in the background clearly off the racing surface: No penalty

We have a massive example of this week at the Burger King Race C. T4 exit where the new extension joins where the old chicane/24hr layout exits. Run as wide as you like. Even more than you could in GT Sport.

While not penalty related, there is some quirks with track limits in this game. At Bathurst you can’t run out to the wall (two wheels over the white line) as drivers do IRL on the entrance to the cutting, and across Reid and McPhillamy park due to the off track grip loss mechanic.

I assume that’s the RSR? It’s a solid lap, your fundamentals are good.

The number 1 thing I notice is that you are dropping to lower gears than I do in most corners and in some cases it’s killing your mid-corner speed.

T1, you can shift up to 2nd earlier and get on the throttle earlier.

T5 and 6 (the left/right before the hairpin) hold 3rd and coast the first part if the left hander and then use 2nd gear and earlier throttle on the right hander. Use ALL the track on exit.

Same for the left/right at the top of the hill. Set yourself up to get the throttle on ASAP in the right hander use all the track on exit.

I think these alone wil get you 3 or 4 tenths.

I'll caveat this by saying that I have terrible people skills, and oftentimes I say things that tick people off, not because I intended to, but because I have terrible people skills. But I'm going to take a shot anyway. Please be gentle. :boggled:

If it's going to continue to get you this riled up, then it's best for your mental health (and physical wellbeing - stress is brutal on you body) if you stop playing. The only reason I say that is because, since the game is probably always going to be this way, there's only one other choice as I see it: change your expectations - but that's already been discussed a lot, so I assume if you thought that was a viable option, you would have tried that already.

For me, driving Atlanta this week on my second account has been a great idea. I don't really care about my DR/SR, and I just do the best I can and try to enjoy it. Truthfully, I've lost way more races by my bad driving and bad choices than anyone intentionally hitting me. I've learned to avoid trying to pass people, or even going side-by-side, in certain areas, because there's a great chance it'll end with my seeing parts of the course I'd prefer to avoid. And I'm actually having fun, as long as I keep my wheels out of the grass.

Anyway, good luck!

I agree with this like for me I no longer care about winning or whatever I just race and have fun I also don't let the rough driving or whatever keep me from playing, honestly I sometimes give retaliation right back without worrying about my DR or SR...

Question on if I should have yielded or not?

This was my Race C which I ended up 4th in. At the beginning it got a bit bumpy, some my fault and some others. In this clip, I know I bumped the car to the left of me partially off track after a bit of a fight before that. As I felt I may have gained an unfair position, I eased off to allow them to regain, but in doing to I lost three spots to the next two cars behind as well.

Question is, was a stupid to ease off and would you consider this bumping fair (especially at a D DR level)?

It was a simple door bump I wouldn't worry about nor would I have backed off, if he can't maintain control from that little bit of contact especially when clearly you were gaining and passing him, (he could have also backed out of it), then he probably shouldn't be driving lol...

I tried it those ways and was losing time. In the top times I watched they are all dropping a gear briefly to aid the turn-in and then jumping back up. I can definitely feel the benefit, but as you can tell from my times to the right, my consistency is terrible! I just can’t hit the same apex every time, especially that darned chicane!

Thanks. Still learning what’s acceptable. I don’t want to piss others off but don’t want to be a total wuss either. 😀

You ever get into one of those situations that defies your ability to find the right line? It's almost like I was doomed, no matter what option I took.

36 seconds of "Well, that's another fine mess you've gotten us into!" (There's a guy next to me, on the right, in case you don't see him in the radar.)

And yes, I realize I could have taken T1 better - well, someone could have taken T1 better, but this exceeded my level or skill, or lack thereof.

I feel your pain, traffic on that track is a nightmare. I just knocked some chap off the track because everybody bunched up on the fast chicanes and couldn't brake in time:

My own heartbreak I mentioned earlier. Over it now but damn that was so close.

Well I was experimenting with the nsx for race B, Qualified in 5th finished 2nd, it weighs less than the GTR and WRX , even though on paper its a bit underpowered, it makes up for it by being quicker in the chicane area
