Daily Race B has been so strange for me this week. More times than not, by the time the later laps come around, I end up somewhere between 5th and 8th, all by myself. Rarely see anyone in front, or behind. It's like I'm just qualifying. I'm not fast enough to keep up with the guys in front, and either I'm faster than the guys behind, or they just mess up and can't seem to catch up. It's truly odd how many times this happens, and it just feels surreal.

I mean, I can't really complain - I'm still hanging on to DR A, and although I've had some ups and downs today, I'm ahead of where I started today, DR-wise.

It's just that these don't even feel like real races. Very odd.

@Grumpy
Oops.
LOL! I had a feeling you'd be red-faced about that. If that happened to me, it would be because I was worried the guy behind me was judging my racing skills. Trust me when I tell you, I am NOT judging you. I'm just doing my best to not do what you did!!!

The other thing that ends up being strange with a situation like we had - you in front and me behind, I'm never sure how to react when the guy in front gives me an opening. I don't want him to think badly of me, so I usually don't do anything unless they wipe out. So, thanks for solving that problem for me.

Been a mixed bag for me in B race last couple of days. If I don’t get taken out early all is well and places to half.
Spent quite a few races fighting back from p16 so each race had been a new challenge.

Raced with you earlier started right behind you but taken down big time in lap 1 by the same dude on a controller and that was the same guy that did me in in multiple races this morning.

You know he’s on a controller not just from the flashing lights but as he goes by he has a decal of controller on the boot of his WRX.

I’m sure I’m not the only victim this morning from his antics which can possibly be lacking control but taking me out multiple times in one morning makes me think he must be okay with the punts and so be it.

Went back to dialing in the QT and I should start well ahead of him in my next B race.
Fixed that problem.

Cheers 🍻

Yeh thats usually when I wipe out! In this case I ran a traditional racing line and not the G70 line. The G70 sticks that turn so tight if you start on the inside, but it was a little crowded and I wanted to stay in line so approached from the outside. My fault. Got too wide and kissed the sand. I love the G70 on that course for that exact reason. Can usually gain 1/10th in that corner when I'm honest... I betrayed my car!

Still was fun!

I'm done. Honestly, I'm done. 5 races in a row I start top half of the field and finish lap 1 dead last!

Obvious, intentional punting and ramming with ZERO consequences for those who send you to hell! Hitting a wall gives you damage and you get penalized but constantly using people as targets is fine!

One guy started behind me in P12 and finished P5 by ramming EVERY SINGLE PERSON ahead of him out of the way! It was unbelievable, every corner I see someone in the barriers and him moving past. This is stupid... 💩😢😣😤

I feel your pain, haven't had a race this week without some bumping, especially the Impreza race.

A good race considering I was used as a pinball on the first lap and ruined others races as a result.

Oh and heres an Impreza race as well.

I know you aren't gonna wanna hear this...but go slower and focus on consistency....finishing P8-10 is better than fighting in those lobbies

Seaside should be relegated to Race A. It's the one track I'm straight up noping if I see it again. I'd rather do Monza in Gr.1 cars with no brakes.

3 races for me at Sardenga this evening. I did not improve my time with my practice session, but I know I can improve. All 3 races were in B rank lobbies and it makes a world of difference when I can race others with my skill level and have fun doing it.

Race 1 has me in P6 to start and I am joined by @CmdrParabolus which was a nice surprise as this is the fist time I've seen them in a lobby. And the race was clean the entire way through. Some minor contact, but nothing to be angry with. Just some nice hard racing. I did go off track on the last lap as I pushed a bit too hard. I might have caused a bit of a mess after that one. I finish P4 and am pleased with my result.

Race 2 is more of the same and I start P4 this time. I do get into the back of P3 on the opening lap and I let them go. After a nice battle with an Alfa driver that I had a quick battle in the previous race, I finish P5. I apologize to the driver I hit and exchange pleasantries with the Alfa driver.

Race 3 is the same as the first 2 with me in P5 this time. Nice and clean and some great driving from everyone around me. I have another battle with a different Alfa driver and finish P5 with a clean race bonus.

Absolutely fantastic stuff tonight. Some of the best racing I've had in a while. It felt like a professional race out there with most everyone backing off when needed and giving space when needed. Why can't every week be like this? The Mustang would not have stood a chance tonight. It's not as nimble as the WRX and Alfa on the track and I think switching cars was the correct choice. I'll try and lower my qualifying time and see where the rest of the week goes.
Yes last night was amazing. Hope that was one of the races I didn't spin out! Love the G70

Good luck, and congrats on bettering your QT. I'm so ticked - I was on pace to better my QT by .3 seconds or more, and I just plain choked on the last 2 corners. I have no idea how I did that well, and I'll probably never do it again. Sigh. Anyway, like I said, good luck!

So I have a serious question about driving skills. I'm doing Race C in the 911 and I'm doing ok, but I've hit a wall (ha!) in my qualification laps. I want to get better at the meta-cars in gr3 like the Nismo, but I can't make them go fast. I've tried the M6 with the same slow results. I've used other FR cars like the Mustang or F-type and am coming close to my 911 time, so it's not that I can't drive FR cars. I just can't drive the Nismo, and I can't figure out why. Is it just a familiarity issue?

I've looked at the videos of how the aliens do it, and to me it looks like they do everything I do, but they just do it faster. I can't figure out how to carry more speed through turns and things like that. Does anyone have any advice?

Any idea what's making the Nismo the meta-car? Is it just that it has the most horsepower? It is average in its other stats compared to other cars, so I can't figure out why it's outperforming everything else. Any clues?

Stability. I'm no alien of course but that's my read on it. It's also among my favourite cars both in game and IRL so familiarity may be a factor but really, you can get on the throttle sooner, you can brake later and hammer the kerbs (for the most part) without losing too much traction or risking too much.

If you've got comfortable in cars with less stability it's iikely you are holding back a bit, maybe without even knowing it, as that's how you'd manage those other cars but it isn't needed in the GT-R.

The F-Type is also a beast on the circuit I've realised.

This probably isn’t helpful but I have been having a lot of success at DTS this week. Winning more than my fair share of top splits. But I am generally starting in the p3-p7 range because my preferred car and fastest qualy lap is in the F-Type. (1:36.1xx)

I have tried the GTR but, like you, I can’t gel with it. It is notably more nimble and therefore quicker through turns 2-5 and the esses but I cannot make the most of it and by the time I hit the CoD I’m usually behind my Jag time. From what I see of those who are nailing a qualy lap, they are exploiting the fact that a perfect line through the CoD allows you to stay flat out. This is not a good strategy in-race because small errors will bring death.

In summary, I don’t think the GTR is the meta. It has good unicorn potential but in- race there are several better options.

The GT-R handles the esses really well, it seems to understeer less than the other quick cars. It's a bit more lively at the rear I find and I can't get consistency in a race with it, it also seems to spear off without reason on the last curb in the CoD and that terrifies me. However I had another big moment in my only race yesterday even lifting through the CoD riding the last curb in the AMG and it flung itself into the shadow realm. I very nearly lost my **** especially as I landed nose first in the barrier for a 4.5 second penalty but recovered to finish P6. Was on for 2nd place again so very frustrating as I've had a few clean races leading to podiums this week.

Unsure on how the GTR is so much quicker, maybe more stable on the limit.
But it hurt my eyes when I opened it, not used to massive letters 😂😂

I was in the 911 earlier in the week and changed to the GTR for the greater stability it has over the 911. I've dropped my Q time a bit every few days, but I'm sure the same would have been true with the 911. Someone here a while back suggested drive what you like and forget what everyone else is driving.

@Mercia Thank you for that insight. I’ve noticed it will crush the curbs on the esses and I’ve done the CoD flat out a couple of times. Even with that I’m still a second slower! I’ll try to be a little more aggressive with it and see what happens. For what it’s worth, the M6 is the highest rated car in the stability stats, but Jim even slower in that car! I love it, but just can make it work. Probably for the same reasons.

@D_Dragline I like the Jag as well. That was my go-to car before I got the 911 figured out. The F-Type has all the right stats in terms of acceleration, top speed and things, and it’s light on the tires too! But I still can’t match my 911 time with it. I ran a bunch of laps today but no progress yet.

@Dan_Tes I got caught sideways exiting the CoD yesterday. I had to reverse at least twice to get out of it! AND 4.5 seconds of penalty. PD needs to get its act together on these pointless penalties. We’re already losing time when we hit the walls, why bother penalizing us?!

@diablopug I was in my phone and got tired of squinting to see what I was writing! And sans serif fonts are for philistines!

@Andy M I’m at a plateau in my learning curve and I want to make some new progress, which is why I’m looking at the aliens and the meta. I’ll never be that good, but they’re all picking the same car for a reason and I’m trying to figure out what advantages the Nismo offers. I’ll race in what I’m comfortable in, but I think I need to push my comfort zone.

I just set a new QT at Daily Race B using the Alfa, and I couldn't be happier than a pig in slop:
1676809191130.png

It's been a little frustrating this week to have to drive the Alfa, vs. the WRXs. I just can't get the hang of the WRX enough to drive it consistently. And while I love driving the Alfa, it's too easy to get caught and passed on the opening straight (after lap 1). If I do really well on the back corners leading into the straight, I can usually hold my own. But any mistake means possibly getting run down by a trailing WRX.

So getting a decent QT is essential if I want to be able to finish high enough to keep my DR A rating. I was slowly dropping down in starting positions, as other people kept improving their QT, and it was getting depressing. And while this new QT won't put me in pole position, it leap-frogs several cars that were always in front of me.

So, I'm happy. :)

Congratulations on lowering your QT as well.
I watched the replay and saw how you got molested big time.
I was afraid I slowed you down too much and allowed them to catch you.
Thanks! Never worry about whether you're slowing me down if I'm behind you. You do you, and don't worry about me or anyone else. None of us can drive well if we're worried about how we're perceived by the guy behind us. I know this from personal experience, time and time again. And I've also used it to my advantage when I'm behind someone - inevitably they'll make a mistake if I stay on their butt. So just have fun and shake your tail at me for being behind you instead of in front.

With that said, if the guy behind you is obviously faster (I don't mean me, just in general), then of course it's nice to let them pass (unless you're on the last lap). But other than that, just drive and have fun.
But it hurt my eyes when I opened it
That's hilarious! Reminds me of a scene in A League Of Their Own.
Someone here a while back suggested drive what you like and forget what everyone else is driving.
Absolutely. I mean, there's nothing wrong with trying to find out why people like other cars, but it's more important to drive something you can drive well, and enjoy (like me driving the Alfa this week).

Thought I might throw my hat into this ring!

As the 911 RSR is my go to for Gr3 racing, that is what I have been mostly been using for the Daily C race. Not the most stable, but I can throw down some consistent times with it. On the other hand, for some fun, I sometimes go with the BRZ. The BRZ is extremally easy to drive on this track. It's slower than all the other cars so I tend to get run over on the first section, but as long as I don't get run over, I tend to finish better than I start. Incredible handling.

As for the race itself, I like the strategy of starting on Hards and swapping out at the end of lap 3 (those poor Mediums at the end!). My favorite part about that strategy is trying to cleanly pick through all the racers that have not pit yet, super fun. In this race, I ended up starting pole, kept the Hards for the start and cruised to like a 12 second victory.

Taken until today to have this kind of run which is pretty good considering, but it sure can be frustrating to not be able to get a race going and every car around feels like it's just driving through each opponent until it's forced to crash.

Overall it's been a solid week but when you get 4/5 in a row like this it knocks the fun out of it pretty fast.

Just had a fantastic race at Daily Race B. For virtually the entire race, 6 or 7 of us were within 2-3 seconds of the lead. 4 of us dropped behind a little at the end (which I'll discuss below), but it was still really invigorating! I realize the winning time wasn't as fast as some others, but this was the first time I felt like I belonged up there with the other DR A drivers.

I got passed near the end of the final lap, and I'm curious if you guys have any suggestions of how I could have defended better. When we went around the corner, with me on the outside, I intentionally scraped paint with the other guy because I was afraid he'd push me off the track and I wanted to start the contact early. Fortunately, he was completely clean so I had nothing to worry about.

I could have defended the inside, but I knew if I did I'd probably lose it at the corner, because I haven't practiced an inside line on that corner, and I knew I wouldn't know what to do. So I basically just conceded to him. But still, I'm curious what other options I could have considered.

This 58 second video has multiple angles:

Do you guys practice corners like these using different lines, like the inside line, so you're prepared during a race?

The 911 is pretty consistent in this track. The CoD likes half-throttle through the second turn. I do it in 5th gear unless I’m in traffic. I also do one lap on hards and 9 on mediums, or 9/1 depending on my position. But the weekend racers are driving that first lap like they’re all drunk, so I’ve been getting binned more than I’d like. But I usually make my time up and finish better than I started.

I almost had a P2 finish, but I goofed and used medium tires both stints!!!! Argh! Other than that, I feel like there’s some room for strategy in this race. I wish they’d make fuel a factor as well. I think it would open up a wider array of viable cars and definitely more strategic options.

Since it's last lap I would definitely have defended. You should have been on the line he took. Overslowing on apex is another technique you can use as well as placement.
This is an old video from GTS, it's a private lobby and a reverse grid start.
Meaning I am slower than anyone else.
I still managed to hold them behind me for over a lap. .

And here's another from a daily race in GTS.
Same principles of defense. This one called me dirty though.

As far as the plateau, I understand completely. Some weeks a track car combo works well and others not so well. My long term trend has been slowly slowly (insert more "slowly" here) improving.
