My Race B experience in a nutshell:

Looks about right. After last night I’ve given up for this a week.

Instead, I’m on the time trial. I probably tried over 100 times tonight and I still haven’t broken the 3% barrier. I’m only .3 of a second off but that .3….. argh.

EDIT. Finally got it after what seemed like 200 attempts…. Got 1:52.861. Optimal was another .4 quicker but I’m done with this one. Should be good enough to keep gold.

I don't give much two shrimps about this week's dailys, but next week's look great! I've been practicing some laps at GV with all sorts of cars and there, at least according to my five lap trial runs, will be a lot of cars that will be competitive.

Doing very similar times in the AMG, Vette, Porsche, Ford GT 18, Lambo, and NSX.

I am a glutton for punishment... if the Lambo is an option I am using it a bunch!
It does look like a good set of races, will be even better if there are good selection of cars to use. Just hope the wall penalties aren't too strict on race C other wise a small mistake will be costly.

Had a couple of good races in race B last night, got back to back wins in the AMG of all things, first time using it this week

My Race B experience in a nutshell:

Yep, the 4 laps has probably not helped as now every move is urgent but far too much attacking in parts of the track where it isn't possible without shoving others off going on.

It's one of those unfortunately where if you try and race clean you'll likely be so outnumbered you're just bullied off the track.

Not anticipating that Grand Valley stop-start middle sector is going to produce much different next week. Lots of temptation for divebombers.

Agreed. Today there was this A+/S guy in Race B who was doing great, starting every race behind and finishing top 2-5. Except he gained EVERY position by contact. No penalties given. Everyone in the lobbies agreed his driving was plain dirty, and it was, I watched the replays. He just didn't care about ruining other people's races including mine, shoving me off track twice in consecutive races. He should've gotten multiple penalties and SR drop.

It pisses me off that one can get away with driving like that and be rewarded for it. The dude was not able to make a single clean pass during those 3 races, yet he didn't get a single penalty, didn't get SR drop and actually gained DR. No wonder how he got that A+. His strategy seems to be working. Just push everyone outta way.
The Penalty System really does need some serious attention. Examples...

Someone in front brake checks you or just brakes way too early - you hit them and get penalised
Someone tries going around the outside, fails to get past but hits you to get his way - because you hit them, you get penalised
Someone tries going around the outside, fails to even got close enough get past so you stick to your line and make contact - you hit them and get penalised
Someone comes out of the pits, goes wide... as you go past the 'ghosted car' materialises which means you hit them - you hit them and get penalised

I'm sure you all get the picture and have all probably experience a number of these scenarios. Can PD do something? I certainly hope so.

The other 'penalty' I strongly object to is when you get pointed off the road into a gravel trap - by the time you actually manage to get back on track, they're all long gone. Race over :grumpy:

There was some wallriding in the GTWS races, so you’d expect the strong penalties to be turned on now.

Hey, hey, hey! Don't diss rotary engines!! I had RX7s for years and years - one of each generation, including the twin-turbo FD. The sound is music to my ears! Not as good as Rob Dahm's 4-rotor RX7, though. This link will take you right to the part of the video that shows what a 4-rotar rotary engine should sound like. And look like, with flames out the pipes:

Wait a minute, that turned into a hair commercial!

Totally off topic but

Howay the lads!

If it didn't sound like a dying cat I might give it a whirl
Not a dying cat, just a severely asthmatic one.
How dare you, sirs!? Shame on both of you!!! The RX-V sounds just like the 787B which sound glorious!

Not to get too far off topic here, but did you know Mazda is bringing the good ol' Wankel back in a new hybrid vehicle?

FYI, major off-topic here.

LOL. You gotta admit Rob Dahm has great hair. Seriously though, he's been working on that car for at least the last 7 years, maybe longer. He learned everything he needed to know along the way, built everything himself (with some helpers of course). I have no idea how he managed to not go broke big-time, so I won't complain when he has commercials. He's such a likeable guy that I don't even mind.

Yes, in fact, I did know that. I'm keeping a wait-and-see attitude, but I'm glad the rotary still has some life left in it.

I've loved the Wankel for 50 years, at least. My friend had an RX3 Wagon, which we used to work on. I bought my first RX7 in 1980. The engine was so small and there was so much space under the hood that you could almost stand in there.

Took off the emission control stuff, and put on a Holley carb and header ("header" is singular in the case of a Rotary, because the exhaust only ports to one side). Then CA created a new law where every 2 years the car had to be visually inspected. So every 2 years I would pull off the the Holley and header, and put the stock stuff back on. That sucked.

My last RX7 was a twin-turbo FD, which we took across country one year. At one point in the middle of nowhere we had that thing up over 140mph, which is an estimate based on the tach because in those days the speedo only went up to 85 or something like that. It was so smooth it scared me, as I realized how easily I could have made a mistake and killed us. Just barely missed getting caught by a trooper - he got the guy in front of me instead. :scared:

Ah yes, those were the days. A far cry from the Toyota Highlander I drive these days (which I love even if it doesn't corner like it's on rails).

But I digress...

Wait, you were going 140 and someone was ahead of you?! On a related note, I once went on the Autobahn with a representative from Porsche who drove at 250 kph. It blew my mind because it didn’t feel any different. Except people got out of our way!

A Porsche again? Nothing against it in general, but what about the - literally - hundreds of other cars available? One of the late 60's / early 70's american muscle cars for example? Especially on that track?
you are absolutely 100% correct... however this porsche is a great drive, and i'm really looking forward to Race A tomorrow

monday update edit: not sure if its their car settings or the SH tires but whew that took a long time to get a handle on. ended up having to use Strong countersteer and TCS 1 to get into the 1:18s. i ran one race, the 0740est one, and it was the first time its been full that early. granted, it was every single possible SR/DR combo, but it does seem like the VR has brought some players into sport mode. hopefully they stay!

Looks like I may have to say "Bye Bye" to my DR A rating:

Well, yeah. When you go fast, you catch up to people in front of you. I think he was doing around 100. I noticed what I thought might be a cop car in the rear-view mirror, so I slowed down and hid next to a truck, and the poor guy in front never stood a chance.

After saying I wasn’t going to do race B any more, well I did two more this morning.

Race 1 I was managing to hang out in the slug fest and my new strategy of trying to protect the inside of each corner was working well enough. On one, someone still managed to find the inside even with my tires on the curb. 🤦‍♂️

Entering the tight left handed, what is that turn 10?, the car behind is far enough back that I can turn in normally. I guess not. Looking at the replay, I was 2/3rds through the turn when I get hit in the side and punted off. Really? They did get 5 second penalty for that but I was never able to catch up. I finish that race in 12th.

Race 2 and same car that punted is in the race. They’re ahead of me and I can’t remember if it was lap 1 or 2 but I can see some bumping between them and another car that puts the prior punter right I front of me at turn 7. Hmm, I may have, accidentally of course, braked a little late l and i gave a love kiss to their rear and sent them into the gravel with no penalty to me 😁. Oops. Worked my way up to 3rd but the last corners I lost 2 spots to finish 5th. I appear to lose a lot of time in that last sector. Haven’t figured that one out.

Having a few last throw races on B tonight and actually doing better....irony.

Done a whole bunch of practice for next week and I'm not sure the downgrades are that massive in reality. I don't know what the BoP is gonna be but the 4wd stuff is stable in the first sector, understeers a bit more maybe. The MR is still tricky to get a lap time from.

TT or GTR for me are the strongest cars

Hey. Seems a bit like Smokey & the Bandit. Or better yet . . .

I have never seen this before. My DR progress bar is literally at 0%:

I'll drop to DR B next race, because I want to get my SR back down to S, if I have the patience.

Down to S?
If you didn't see, Race A and Race C have both been updated to only have 1x tire wear with pitting disabled.

I’m hoping that race C uses the high speed BoP because there have been some major changes in that category.

But honestly, there’s no need to change tire wear for ten laps on RH, and I don’t think race A had tire wear anyway. This just seems like a typical PD half-baked plan to over-correct for their own stupid decisions. I understand that they need to do something about the out glitch in the short term, but they had an entire extra month to get the track ready!

It sounds like this suddenly became another very boring week.

I've been moving back to the end of the pack at the start of the race, so I can drive clean and try to improve my SR. In the process, I've been messing around with different cars, because who cares, right?

So I tried the Suzuki, only to find myself back in a B lobby:

With a P2 start, how could I resist, even if it was the Suzuki? I was holding my own just fine until I misjudged someone who was serving a penalty, and they unghosted at a really inopportune time. Ended up P9, which is too bad, because I was already writing the post in my head about how amazing it was to podium in the Suzuki.

And no, I'm not going to try it again.

Down to S?
That track has me not knowing up from down!

I was in a Lobby with Wind earlier today (with 5x tire wear) and picked the Corvette. By about lap 6-7 the tires were hurting... pretty bad. Not enough to warrant a pit stop, but I could see some people - maybe in lower lobbies - stopping. The 1x wear is to just mitigate that from happening. RMs with 1x wear would've been much better IMO.

Honestly, I think this week's races are going to be great. Two of them are the brand new track and the other should be interesting seeing how the Gr4 AWD cars all got Nerfed. Might actually mean other cars are viable!

I thought maybe I was totally out of the loop in some new strategy!!

I hope so. The Gr4 races will probably become dominated by FF cars. I’m really hoping to get race C as a high speed BoP because the changes are significant. The BRZ got a huge power boost, for example, and a lot of cars got tweaks. But mostly nobody in the high speed category for some reason.

From the testing I've done and practice lobbies I've been in, expect the Porsche to be the META for C. Maybe a little less so now that the tire wear went from 5x to 1x (as the 5x only hightens the Porsche's strength on tire wear) but it handles S2 of the track so well; the car rotates beautifully through those tight turns and is able to exit very well, too. Its straight line speed is underrate as well... it's no slouch. I was able to hit 160 at the S/F line which is better than I was able to do in the Vette, Merc, and many others. The Jag I hit 161 and the Ford GT and Ford GT LM II were both 163.

Speaking of the Ford GT 18, that will be a viable car as well. McLaren seems strong, too. ANything but the Porsche and GTR would be a welcome, IMO. I think I'll give the Lambo some goes as well because I enjoy such things like stubbing my toe, getting paper cuts, and falling down the stairs.

Here's a fun conundrum to have: Back down in a B lobby, pole position. Managed a win even with 1.5 seconds of track penalties. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.

Here's my problem: Another win or two like that and I'll be back up in the A lobbies, starting P12 or something, which absolutely sucks on this track.

So what do I do? Intentionally tank a few positions so I can stay a B for the rest of today (which isn't very long now that I think about it), or go ahead and move back up to A (assuming I didn't jinx myself with this post).

What would you guys do?

just race & see where you end up.. 🤷‍♂️

Well, I have to quit for the day, so this is where I ended up after another pole-to-pole win in a B lobby:

About 1 pixel short of moving back to DR A. A good place to stop, I guess. See y'all tomorrow!

That's what I decided too.
I seem to recall that one can't just bounce from X to Y DR within a race. Even if you earn the next rung up (or down) you'll stay at the rating you are for a few more races where you can still nullify the move in rank. This was to keep people from bouncing DRs race-to-race.

So you may sit at 0% of DR A for a few races even if you don't do well and you may sit a 100% of DR B for a few races even if you do well.
