Anyone else having trouble during the actual TM race? I keep making mistake after mistake, and it's pathetic. I'm almost afraid to keep doing the race.
Yes! The slipstream makes the corners hard, but I’m also getting clobbered! Every single race I’m getting aggressive contact or outright dirty play. Yes, it may be partly because of the dirty air, but it always happens to be after I make a good move to pass, so I’m not convinced they’re innocent mistakes. I found myself revenge-bumping last night and had to quit just to save me from myself!
Yeah that was me. You said that you meant to qualify and not run races.
I was running laps and getting my QT down and when I switched cars I must have joined the race by mistake. I was definitely not ready! It was a shock as I was putting together my best lap yet and the screen suddenly went black. I was sure I had broken something when suddenly the lobby showed up and I found myself in a race! Hit me up with a friend request next time you see me. I’ll do the same.
Hello... long time reader here. Since I have raced in lobbies with nearly all of the NA members, I thought I should say hi! I am going to drag the average age up a tick - 61 here. I am mid-to-high B racer, depending on the week; had A for a couple weeks, and lost it; ehh. Almost always SR.S (except for monza week!). I enjoy hearing the different perspectives here, see you out there.
Hit me up for a friend request as well! The more the merrier, and I like to remember who the GTP people are when I’m racing!
I hi th the server update do wax unable to test that out tonight.
Looks like this is about where the beer kicked in . . . ?

I didn't know you could get full night in TM in qualifying TT :embarrassed:

This is from the replay of one of the top 100 peeps

If your looking for more friends, can i be one as well? I've been a long time gamer, and do have friends to play with but unfortunately not one of them is into GT7 or simracing in general...

You are very persistant to set a good lap. 26 laps straight! Good job!

I watched a QT from a 1:48.x on Race C to try to learn pace better and that was at full night. Mine is always during the day and I usually restart after around 10 laps. Perhaps I just need to keep running until night and then (hopefully) speed up on a cooler track?

👏👏👏👏

You win the internet today for the best description of driving the Ford.

Side note I'm driving these cars with TCS1 being fastest for me. With TCS0 I might potentially be quicker but I am more likely to be too cautious on the throttle and be slower or I over boost the accelerator and spin into a rock. Part of that may be a function on the G29 accelerator pedal. Perhaps TCS0 is more controllable with better pedals but that is what I have for now..
Are you using stock G29 pedals? I got the load cell and did the spring mod (moved the clutch spring to the accelerator) and it's made the accelerator much more controllable through the sweeping turns than before. More controllable and predictable in general. Can probably find a slightly stiffer spring online for cheap. Thought this change was almost as impactful as the load cell itself.

Tried to do a Race C Qualifying session with the 911. I cannot keep it on the circuit no matter how hard I try. Understeer into Oversteer into wall. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Gave up on qualifying and just turned slow/penalty laps until the timer ran down. Started 10th in a lobby of 13. Quit 1.3 minutes down on lap 8 after hitting the wall after the last chicane again lol

Might give B a shot later this afternoon/evening to see how the GR.4 balancing changes are. I expect FR or FF to be quickest. Probs going to try the Subaru anyways to start as I'm super rusty from having almost 2 weeks off of any racing at all. Might migrate towards the Jag though as I recall enjoying that car.

Anyways, RH at Grand Valley sucks, grip is non existent, kinda bummed b/c I love the circuit.

Did another Race B, started Pole, got creamed. Finished P5. Mustang started behind me, and he gave me a little bump so he didn't have to pass me on T1. That was nice. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.

I chalk everything up to my bad driving. But I gotta tell you, give these people a sliver of an opening, and they go for it. I'm not complaining at all - I was the slow guy out front holding everyone else up, there's only 4 laps, and people have places to be!

The winner was in a Alfa 155, believe it or not. I don't believe it was a great time, though, because in spite of how much I stunk up the place, I only finished a few seconds behind (OK, maybe 5 seconds).

I'm either going to have to learn the 'Stang, or figure out how not to suck so much. Probably both.

I thought the discussion of "dirty air" was only for Grand Valley, not Trial Mountain. Am I wrong? I didn't pay much attention to it, honestly.
Don't forget about your brake balance gamers, a notch or two to the front does wonders in stabilising the MR cars.
Just to double-check - you can't adjust brake balance in Daily Race B, right? I mean, I'm pretty sure that's right, but if I'm missing something, I'd sure like to know!
My eyes, brain and fingers don't always get along.
You know those hook-and-ladder fire trucks - where they have an additional driver to steer the rear end? I feel like each body part you mentioned has their own driver, and none of them communicate with each other. Someone should yell at me "You'll put your eye out!"

I thought i noticed the running lights come on after a bunch of laps at TM yesterday.....

Definitely faster if you wait till dark. There was another race a few weeeks back that had the same deal.
I noticed this too. I am not sure what QT lap it was but when the sun set and the tunnels lit up and the moon and stars were out the graphics were amazing. I was hoping that Lap 4 would have had that transition in the race. It would have been great!!

I have done the same. I have the Ricmotech load cell brake and the clutch spring in the accelerator and the brake spring in the clutch; not that I use the clutch. My understanding though is that the G29 pots don't provide a linear response with pedal travel. Could be wrong on that though.

Try the McLaren. I was super impressed with it last night and I may just stick with it now. If I was able to consistently lap in the low 1:50s in my tipsy state then that is a keeper. Where time is gained on this track is the ability to remain full throttle through T3/T4 into the hairpin, the twisties and the chicane after the second tunnel. The McLean corners like a locomotive on rails and it excels in those spots.

thanks I'll give that a shot! When i can keep the 911 on the circuit I can get a mid 1:50:xxx but it's a handful trying to do so. Are you messing about with the brake balance in the McLaren?

i ran the Ford GT for some laps just to see what everyone was talking about with the sunset, etc. i think it was about lap 7 where the tires 'gave out' because of the temperature change. i tried to do a full lap under those conditions but would've needed to dial up the TCS to survive.

not sure if the tires fall off as dramatically as it felt, but i cannot imagine coping with that and tire wear at the same moment. daily race c drivers are another level!

I should start trying to add some of you regs as friends. This is the only game I play on PS5. What is the protocol/process for a friend request? Also, do you ask by screenname or PSN?
I find it easier to use the PS App on my phone to send the request. Search by PSN. When you find who you are looking for click on them to open the profile and then you can tap on the Send icon to send the request.

I sent a request to you.

Fire friend requests through. Don't have any real life friends who play the game so I'm always looking for folk for me to 'prop up' on my leaderboards.

However and goodness knows how but I've gone from a 2.00.700 to a 1.59.4 this afternoon at Trial Mountain. I'm absolutely over the moon right now. Never though I'd get under 2mins let alone by under .500secs!. I was put firmly in my place when I ran a lobby (remember I'm low B) and pole was a 1.56.3!!

I will send you guys a friend request as well. I’m also looking to fill my leaderboards so yeah, I need some friends to do that haha!

I haven't even touched A or B this week because of the challenge that C is this week. What worked wonders for me was watching some of the fastest laps on the leaderboard in various cars and expecting to see how much further these pros were driving into the corner than me. BUT, I noticed I was overdriving the corners and by a lot!

Not every one of them, but a lot of those alien laps actually looked way slower then my 1:48.0 because they didn't spin the tires, they didn't overdrive a corner even by a little and enter into a slide and then half to wait on the car before picking up the gas. They are managing their traction - either through TCS or possibly even having just a wheel and pedals way better then me on the controller.

It's pretty brutal this week on C actually. The combo of the hard tires and since each long straightaway follows a difficult corner, you just can't afford a mistake before the straightaway. I don't care how good your lap is, if you mess up the chicane that leads to the front stretch, your lap is ruined. If you miss the apex in any of the middle corners, you're all but guaranteed to ruin the next 2 since they happen so fast. But you've got to be good on the last chicane to stand a chance. Obviously, depending on whichever car they are using, but typically if someone exits out of the chicane and are gaining on me immediately after by .1 or .2 then all of a sudden they've gained nearly a second on me by the time we enter T1. And don't even get me started on the BS penalties through the fast S section.

With all that said, its some of the most fun I've had on this game this week. My only gripe is no tire wear. I would love to have seen a fall off because of a 5x tire wear. That would have been incredible.

Had a really fun and competitive Race C with the BRZ. I don't own the McLaren so I'll rent one of those this evening to try out. Was able to set a 1:51:xx and in race conditions towards the end set a 1:50:xx. Probs can get there in qualifying with more practice and shaking the rust off.

Then hopped into a Race B. Mark in the Alfa eat a bag of bricks. That's all I have to say about that. Aston is solid there but I agree with everyone else, 4 laps is too short and makes people rather insane. I'm going to avoid this one this week, not worth the aggravation and constant take outs.

Managed a decent qualy lap at Trial Mountain but sector 1 really makes or breaks the lap. Still nowhere close to my Uncle or @Nebuc72 though. Aliens... 🤣👽

@Leon Kowalski over to you 🤪

Great stuff. And quite a challenge. I can't drive the %X§@&! Audi. Jumping around like crazy in sector 1, and my achilles heel is the left hander onto the back straight. Okay, not giving up prematurely, but maybe I'll have to go back to the 'stang...

I'm not buying this whole it's only 4 laps thing. Yes more would be nice but I don't think it would change poor decision making.

There are 3 block pass or under cut corners at trial mountain the rest you just slow the race pace.

So here is the quandary, take the position but compromise being close to the fighting group I

its one of my bug bears. In race attack the corner, make the move.

In time trial be as wide and smooth as possible, and that should flow through to the race but again decision making earns a place but compromises a race.

I'm running zero bias in the McLaren. For the 911, a front bias of 2 will stabilize it tremendously. FWIW, I am running a bias of 2 to the rear for both the GTR and the Ford.

Some decent racing here, though my tiny mistake cost me at least two place. The Brazilian at the end is a dirty cheat, always tries to run you off the road.

I felt I left the silver Mustang enough space, only just mind you, and he ran wide. Touch borderline but I did the same thing the lap before and he tucked it in better. Bob Sacomano is an excellent racer, clean and fast.

I seem to be very quick through the first tunnel, my entry onto the back straight is very hit or miss though.

I got myself in a right old pickle today, I'm desperately trying to better my TT time when I get a spare moment so have neglected daily races (completely ignored B again, and I like TM!). Jumped on for one race in C but a now uncompetitive qualifying time left me in the middle of the grid.. Had an incredibly early braker into T1 who I accidentally slammed into (I will take full responsibility but he took a very aggressive defensive line in front of me then braked..). I waited for him at the apex only for him to leave the lobby, leaving me second from last and inside last place as a shadow. Popped out of him off the racing line and was all out of shape for the hairpin and outbraked myself.... hit someone else (Sorry!! Absolutely fully my fault). Waited for him, then absolutely lost the back end in the technical bit and ended up in the barrier with 5 seconds worth of penalties. That precipitated a rage quit which I try not to do but it felt necessary at that point, I was an absolute embarrassment!

Hoping for a better experieence next time, it left me feeling pretty ropey as a couple of good races earlier in the week made me feel like I was getting somewhere DR wise. I am a mid B but I know my one lap pace is good enough for A. I completely lack race craft having only started sim racing online last summer and new to a wheel so it's all a learning experience for me. It's just fustrating when you make so much progress having clean quick racing to just make every mistake in the book in half a lap!

We go again tomorrow!
