I did a few laps and got a low 36 but I'm pretty sure I can get 35s if I can figure out the hairpin. I feel very slow through it. Certain corners seem to be easier for me in VR, though, such as coming out of turn one and also Spoon.

I cannot for the life of me figure out spoon! I'm at 1:36.4 right now, optimal in some sessions has been in the 35s. I think I'll get there yet

I'm at 36.6 for now and about to try a few more laps. I'm scared to race with anything above 36 flat.

One thing I did that helped, when setting the VR playspace, I lean forward quite a bit then set the area. That way the diameter of the safety barrier is wide towards my feet.
It's car dependant, if your head leaves the cockpit area it goes black, so for the formula car it's a small area

Please let me know what it’s like to do a longer race with tire changes in VR without the heads up display. I want to get VR, but it sounds like longer races will be impossible!
Car info showing tire wear, fuel and the basic MFD settings is floating on your right or left if you have it set on. Works perfectly. Also some useful info on the Super Formula wheel such as speed, gear, lap time and fuel. Race info (if set on) shows your current position, gear and lap time and it's floating right in front of you. No problem doing longer races in VR!

Okay, good to know. I just wasted a bunch of time qualifying on mediums but got 36.2 almost immediately after switching to softs! It's like ankle weight training.
Ha, yeah. I noticed I do have you on my friends list, I just got a 1:35.99

I’ve been meaning to post this about last week’s Race A at Monza. I had a blast even if my SR took a hit. I had the single best race of my life with three cars trading places over the last two laps! The video I’m posting shows lap 4 in all the views and lap 5 in whatever “tv audience” view that is. I did this so I could show my brother, who’s never played, all the detailed views and whatnot. But the last lap in particular is just amazing!

Here’s the finish line photo, followed by the video.

@Bullwinkle & @Leon Kowalski - I hate you both. You couldn't let me enjoy having a lead in QT at DRB, could you? Dangit!!

And the cheap shots have started. Got tapped into the grass a few turns before and didn't even get a chance to try and make up a few spots. Finished dead last. At least I managed to steal fastest lap away from @GrumpyOldMan

So you're the one who took my fastest lap time! 😂 And that cheap shot was really disgusting.
in the cockpit I end up leaning for some corners. It's instinct/reflex to offset the G forces I'm expecting.
THIS, I like to lean into turns and everytime I do the screen goes black
For some reason, I can't help but lean into the turns. Just can't stop it.
It's just the simulated g force blackout.
That's hysterical - you should get a trophy for that!

It probably doesn’t help your mood that I missed all day yesterday and half of today, so that lap today was my first try of the week.

Just a hint: the sun sets around lap 20. It just so turns out that lap 21 was my fastest.

Although I’m killing the qualification for Race B, I got murdered in the two not three races I did. I don’t see how everyone is diving into T1 like they are. I’m assuming they’re just using me for their brakes? Same for that other big turn after the esses (can’t remember the number). I can’t figure either of them out. Maybe I need to just take the inside line on lap 1 just to keep everyone behind me?

I’m losing badly because I don’t want to run with my elbows out. Maybe I’m too timid, and maybe that’s no longer considered dirty racing, but I just don’t want to depend on shoving people out of my way to place well. I’m not even sure I’ll race it any more, given the World Series events this week. But I’m enjoying the qualification laps at least.

I’ll try Race C once, but that probably my it for me! The Gr2 cars at Sardegna tomorrow will be fast enough for me.

I did some practice with the suggestions from this afternoon and incredibly all were with in .5 seconds of each other. The problem is that I think this version of Maggiore is terrible to race on backwards. I didn't follow any track guides and I probably should have as my lines, to steal a phrase from Jim Ross, are bowling shoe ugly. But, I did want to try at least and see the cars could do.

I set a baseline with the Mustang which was very "loose" on the exit of the turns. That is probably due to me getting on the throttle too early so mostly my fault. I then went to the Vantage where I improved my time by half a second. It felt as solid as ever and if I figure the track out I'll go with that. Then I tried the Hyundai, but it felt "floaty" going over some of the small bumps in the track. I ran the same time as the Mustang earlier but I could probably gain some time with more laps in the car. Finally, I tried the AMG and had struggles with it. It might have been due to my frustration with the track so I won't write it off yet.

More practice tomorrow and I'll watch some track guides as I know I'm leaving at least a second on the track all over the place.

I tried a couple more Races B, hoping maybe I just had a bad lobby. Nope. I was running with half A+ drivers who were just punting me every chance they had. Apparently they don’t actually have to slow down for chicanes and are entitled to use me as their brakes? Regardless, I got hit every single turn on the first two laps and then lost my mind and punted a row of cars who had shoved me sideways at the last chicane. I realize I need to just turn it off but I’m seeing so much red that I had to walk away for a minute to convince myself to let it go.

I’m back to just hating the state of this game. It could be a lot of fun, but there’s just no enforcement of bad driving nor incentives for good behavior. I’m took at least three cars out and all I got was 1.5 seconds for incidentally hitting the wall. That just ain’t right. And I don’t see this week improving one bit. These five lap sprints are the worst of the worst.

Ok, I’m off to both lick my wounds and hide in shame for losing my mind.

I just did a couple of race Bs. The first was OK qualified eighth came in sixth. The second one was brutal. It was like somebody had let a bunch of apes and orangutans out of the zoo and let them drive around in cars. It was a complete crap fest. I’ve never seen such bad driving for supposed SR S rated drivers.

I almost never race online because I get so frustrated with irresponsible racers who ruin the experience.

I just did 3 Race B races and had dirty drivers in 2 of them. I'm not as skilled as most of you but I retain an S sportsmanship rating and this is why I hate to play online.

I wish there was a way to report these rammers🤬

Well I’m thankful for the 4 good B races I had tonight. No real dirtiness inflicted on me and other than the slight lack of control from a few people, I didn’t witness anything like I did last night.

Good races are handed out like the roulette wheel you can get on a streak but mostly you’re going to be disappointed.

Much more fun than last night

Sorry to hear so many people had a rough go.

I tried race C and just cannot handle the car to get one consistent lap, so gave up on that.

I went back for one last race B of the evening hoping the “characters” from earlier had left. They had.

Started Q7 (everyone is qualifying faster than me now) so I thought oh deer I’m going to be in the mid pack. Got the jump on P5 and P3 spun out so by turn 1 I’d gain two to P5.

Lap 2, turn 7 the one hooligan in the pack got me and I was punted into the wall dropping me back to P7. Could have been worse; at least it only slowed me by a couple seconds. The punter took himself out to last, then I presume, rage quit. I was able to get up to P6 by lap 3.

Me and P7 traded spots a couple times but I held onto P6 through to lap 4. Ultimately he got the better of me and I fell to P7 at turn 8. A spin out in the final turn had us both move up a spot so back to P6 entering the last lap.

That’s where I’d thought I’d end but then it all changed from the penalty spot. P2 had a 4s penalty and P3 a 3s penalty. That had me move up to P4.

Then unbelievably, the leader completely missed turn 9, like forgets the corner is there, and puts himself in the barrier.

I enter the home straight in third and have to do some defensive driving to prevent P4 from jumping me.

Finished third! 🏆 woohoo.

Ironically P2 who I raced most of the race, was actually Q6 who I passed before the first turn. He got his spot back and we finished same order but four spots higher. It’s nice when you get to race clean with someone shares same values and I was happy to congratulate him on his P2 and good driving.

I guess my first two races of the night dealt me lemons and with this one, I made lemon aid. 😁

Now I just need another like this to offset the DR beating the first two races gave.

I am a bit in a unlucky position I think. Two weeks ago (on sunday) i became a A-rated driver. I lost that when the new Daily Races came out on monday (Interlagos), and managed to get that back after the first days of struggling. So I became a A-rated driver again on last sunday. The same thing happened to me this week and so I lost my A-rating again yesterday. I can't find my mojo around Lago Maggiore this time. Setting a decent QT time took me hours and I'm still way of with my 1.18,7xx. I tried it first with the 911 (my favourite Gr.3 car) but couldn't get under the 1.19,xxx. Tried the Huracan after that and that went way better. I haven't had any luck yet in the races. Because I was A-rated, I was sitting in lobbys were the whole grid was almost a second faster per lap then I am. Now I am B-rated again, and during most races I am in the middle of carnage. So yeah, this game can be so stressful at times.
At least I had some fun making photo's.

Arghh, hate speech? 😆 Okay, here we go: I hate @Bullwinkle and his freaking Porsche! Can't get anywhere near it!🤣

Don't talk badly about Orang-Utans. They are calm and respectful drivers:

:D

I usually race the AMG a lot. I also tried it yesterday and had struggles with it, couldn't get it to turn in enough.
So I ran a string of MR cars and got faster for each one.
The Lambo, the McLaren, then the Renault and finally the Alfa.
I tried more than half a dozen cars. Strangely enough, the only ones I could at least get a half-decent laptime with were those who felt the most unstable: the Lambo and the Audi.

A (very) little bit of Race B yesterday

Race 1:
started 7, climbed into 4 until this happened
20970061472103945.jpg

It's turn1 and I'm the pink one.
Maybe I went too early on the brakes, maybe all of the other guys decided to dive at the same time, the fact is that the two white-red cars were behind me in the straight.
Lucky me they were both very honest in their lines, but not the Ford and the other car in the back.
All in all I entered the turn 4th, exited 5th with the 3 cars on the outside crashing one into the other.

My race ended up 8th (I did a costly mistake later on), but with a clean race badge, which I value more that the position itself in this specific race.

Race 2:
....
....
....

quitted after 8 mins of race intro splash screen

That's it, probable I spend more time in setting up the rig, launch the game and waiting, than in driving

:grumpy:

Aside from this, question for you....

imagine exiting turn 1 with another car on your side. Overall perfomance is quite the same (so this other guy is lapping about the same time of yours).
What's your approach to Turn2 and Turn3-4, having as main objective to avoid risks?
Here is mine, open for discussion and insights depending on the different scenarios

I'm on the inside, half car in front: keep the inside and the position, be prepared for a bump in the rear between T3 and T4
I'm on the inside, cars are aligned: keep the inside and the position, back out before T3 if he is not backing out at T2
I'm on the inside, half car behind: keep the inside and the position aiming for a very outside line to backout? Backout before T2? Not sure how to handle given the fact that he will have in inside in the next turn.
I'm on the outside, half car in front: keep the outside position to get in the inside at T3
I'm on the outside, cars are aligned: backout
I'm on the outside, half car behind: backout

This.

Elbows out. Not in a nasty way, but contact is going to happen unless you just want to wait for attrition.

Good luck!
I then went to the Vantage where I improved my time by half a second. It felt as solid as ever and if I figure the track out I'll go with that.
I'm still with the Vantage, but I saw a Genesis on the leaderboard, and my first lap with it was close to my best QT. Unfortunately I couldn't duplicate that, so I'm not using it. But its gearing might be an advantage on this track.

You've got a lot more experience than I do, so take this with a grain of salt. Is it possible that you're just not braking where they expect you to?

LOL. You're not wrong.
Then unbelievably, the leader completely missed turn 9, like forgets the corner is there, and puts himself in the barrier.
I've done that before, when I got too involved watching the people behind me. I realized too late, and figured I might as well hit it hard. It could also be a controller issue - I remember reading something here where someone's brakes intermittently failed, probably because of a controller problem.
so I thought oh deer I’m going to be in the mid pack

Yeah, switching back and forth between B and A definitely sucks. I try to focus on getting better QTs to help deal with this. But also remember these things:
  1. The further back you start, the fewer positions you can lose if you crash. And probably the smaller of an impact on your DR.
  2. Chances are that you don't have to finish much higher to improve your DR, depending on the other drivers.
Arghh, hate speech? 😆 Okay, here we go: I hate @Bullwinkle and his freaking Porsche! Can't get anywhere near it!🤣
"Hate speech" - LOL! Nah, you guys know I love you.

so this other gay
Um... I'm guessing this is a typo? 😂

If the other guy doesn't back off, I probably will, because almost every time this has happened to me, it ended up ruining my race. I'd rather lose a couple of positions than end up DFL.

I noticed that the orangutan didn’t use the brakes on the golf cart either! If you want to see my impression of apes in cars in this race, it’s more like this:

You've got a lot more experience than I do, so take this with a grain of salt. Is it possible that you're just not braking where they expect you to?
I’m guessing that’s it, but I can’t understand it. If I slam on my brakes just in time to not hit a barricade or fly off the track, how is that “too soon” for these other drivers? Turn 1 at the start really does feel like half the drivers are anticipating using me for their backstop and don’t bother with their brakes. They’re diving into every single turn and making contact, so it doesn’t leave me with the impression that they’re trying to use responsible brake points. And to be honest, until PD punishes this behavior, why should they bother doing it differently?!

This was one of my races from Monday.

Not sure this was out and out dirty driving, perhaps an off day combined with bad luck as his driving in other places was pretty respectful.

Any tips on how to defend turn 1? I’m adjusting now so that if there is less then a second between me and the car behind, to have a more central position on track entering, rather than being on the right. It’s slower overall but seems safer in the long run; however that then allows the position behind to gain more. What to do 🤷🏼‍♂️

Haven't done any races this week. Honestly, they don't appeal to me... but I probably will before week's end. I am learning some new hardware so I've been doing some TTing for Race B.

Was wanting to try some different cars and was surprised by the Hyundai which I was able to do an 18.5. The Evo was an 18.4. Didn't think those were too bad considering... then I jumped into the Porsche and did a 17.9. Yea, the Porsche is OP/broken. I can't believe they Nerf'd the GTR in the last patch but didn't touch the Porsche.
