As @Leon Kowalski mentioned, the wind speed and direction is variable. Each time you enter a qualifying session, it will be different.
If you hit Retry, it will be the same. Hit Exit, then you'll see a change. Also, it will shift during a session.

I can't recall ever seeing that during any race qualifying.
I think the people at the top of the leaderboard are entering, and exiting repeatedly, until they get a favorable wind.

If you're further down the rankings than you think you should be, you may have had a headwind on the long straight, while others had a tailwind. This disparity is exacerbated with a low-powered car. In 500hp cars, it wouldn't make much difference. With a 65 hp car, it matters a lot.
Looking at the leader's replays, the leader has a 8.2ft/s tailwind on their fast lap. I also saw 8.3ft/s tail wind on another and a 5.3 on a slower one. So I think you need to be on the lookout for at least a 8+ft/s tail wind down the main straight and preferably from a ENE direction to minimize impact after turn 1.

So I don't feel so bad about my 1:50.962 QT now as I had a 7.8ft/s wind from the SWS, about a worse as it can get.

I am loving running Q laps at Lago Maggiore this week. I'm currently at 1:18.746. I've done 4 races and the results are mixed (more poor than good), but driving this track for Qualifying is awesome! I think it's a combination of a lot of things. Here's a few:

View attachment 1239344
  1. I can't remember smiling as much during Q laps as I have the last 2 days. I mean, my cheeks are getting sore from smiling. I'm certainly not Grumpy here.
  2. As I've said many times, I love the engine sound of the V12 Vantage.
  3. I think I understand this track pretty well, although I reserve the right to piss and moan when I forget how to drive it. 😛
  4. There's several sections you can just blast through at pretty-much full-tilt. T4-6 are a blast, and once I figured out T7, it's smooth and fun.
  5. T10-11 will always be my least favorite, but I've done them pretty well a lot of times. I have a better understanding of how to drive them than the last time we last had these corners, even if I don't hit it every time.
  6. Not only do I love the sound of the V12, but its gearing seems to be about perfect on this track, for me.
  7. With TCS 1, ASM On and CA on Strong, for me the V12 feels like it's glued to the track (other than T8 of course). Obviously if I don't hit my lines and speed, that's not the case, but when I do, it feels like it's a slot car.
I suspect my experience doing actual races may not line up with my Q experience - time will tell. But at least I'm having a blast right now. I hope some of you can get the same experience from this track.
fully agree, it is a lot of fun driving this track. Could not get to grips with the Porsche though, and tried the Lambo but that was all over the place. I enjoyed using the Mustang it is rock solid on this track.

But If i have time today I will try that Vantage, curious if it is as good here as you say....

I realise it's a full blown formula car but not sure if it's the car or my wheel but dear god, it's absolutely ridiculous. I'd love to try another wheel to see if mine is defective because if i go 1mm too far the car LURCHES across the road, it's so sensitive. So I can turn a moderately reasonable Q lap but in a race i'd be a total and utter menace.

With a controller, I find TC borderline unusable in GT7 because it is so aggressive, even on TC1, that it kills my time. With the wheel, it seems to cut in far less often and i lose way less time on exit. Similarly, I can use the SF car on TC0 with the controller but need TC1 on a wheel despite having far, far greater control over throttle input.
I'm on a G29 and don't have any issue like that. Almost sounds like you have a dead spot or maybe not enough degrees lock to lock...I think that's a setting...

Your TC issue is wild too, I'm on TC0 and have only lost the rear of the car once and that was just a shifting mistake that put me in first gear out of the hair pin (sorry, don't know turn names or numbers...lol).

does anyone know how to try setup NOS?
Super Formula has an overtake boost under Nitrous/Overtake/DRS button by default during race.
I haven't raced online in several weeks, if not months. I feel obligated to do Race C this week. It's pretty much made for VR. I did a few qualifying laps yesterday and it was pretty fun, though I'm about a second slower than I would be on flat, I think. I hope I can figure it out soon.
Race C in VR is the most fun I've ever had in online racing. Last week's Race A was awesome too.

It seems that Race A is another PD experiment.

Yes, I realised today that it changes during a session - must have been behind me when I set my fastest lap!

Have you also noticed that the outside line down the start/finish straight seems to be faster than driving by the pitwall?

It's possibly slightly downhill from the camber out of the final turn.

I think it handles great once you get the hang of it. You can go flat out through most parts of the esses in sector 1 all the way until the last corner of sector 2. It goes like it's on rails, turns super well and just sticks to the track. I'm using a wheel though, don't know how it's like with a pad.
I don’t know...

(Actual quali lap is a tenth or two faster)

Not a fan of how the car feels. Trying to drive this thing even remotely close to the limit is just a one-way ticket to understeer city.

Even the front-runners were smoking up the front tires like its nobody’s business. Could see that in real time and not just a visual bug in the replay.

Interesting! Have other people noticed this too?

I love the V12 Vantage here. But there's a lot of options available. I also recommend using assists, unless you're really good without them, because the track has a lot of tight turns, elevation changes, and odd angles.
The Vantage was my old go to car in GT Sport. I haven't really drove it in daily races, but I did in some GTWS races and it seemed to be fine.

Haven't raced it yet but found the AMG was good (for me) doing quali laps. As Tidgney pointed out in his lap guide, the MR cars can get a bit twitchy on some corners like the left hand hairpin - if you can tame that the RSR is very strong as ever.
I've never raced with the AMG. I'll give it a try and see if I like it. I did avoid the MR cars previous to the update that made them driveable.

I've gotten my best quali lap thus far in the Hyundai (not Genesis X). It was an 18.5. Next was Mustang. I am learning a new wheel right now so take those with a grain of salt. I can't seem to get along with the Porsche anymore. The understeer is ridiculous on that car.

A decent number of cars on the leader-boards; at least as of last night. The 911 seems to be the most popular but there were some Lambos and Evos as well; Audi was P1 last I saw. That being said, I don't typically even look at the top 100 as those aliens can make anything fast.
I'll also try out the Hyundai at your suggestion. Always good to try out some cars I've never used. Thanks for all the options to try out.

wow, do they even have brakes? I need to completely reassess my driving style

It's especially fun to grab a police livery, get the lights flashing and play cops-and-robbers. PIT those felons!

EDIT - should only do this on a burner account :D
what controls the lights on/off on the safety car please ? or put another way, how do i turn them on & off ?

And the cheap shots have started. Got tapped into the grass a few turns before and didn't even get a chance to try and make up a few spots. Finished dead last. At least I managed to steal fastest lap away from @GrumpyOldMan

That's just rotten. I saw you in a bunch of my races last night. Guess you straddle the lower B to upper B lobbies.

Yes. No. Maybe. Sort of....

It probably isn't as intrusive when using pedals and I I always put it down to a wider range in terms of pressing fidelity vs a and inch or so of movement with a trigger or none with face buttons.

My pedals have about 4/5 inches of resisted travel so it feels like I can dial both brake and throttle in more progressively in smaller increments and hold finer positions as well.

Even with ABS on I try to be smooth/cadence brake enough to minimise how much red is displayed in the pressure bar.

So so true a very weirdly technical and almost horribly tricky track with turning braking zones off camber and then camber transition acceleration points.

The amount of times I lose it both going in and out is incredible! :)

you can't

What ever button you have the hazard lights bound to use to work on previous game safety cars I though?

I noticed this too! I'm pretty sure it's the first time I've seen tyre smoke during a race, or is it just me?

I'm on PS4
Its been a first for me too. The only other time was in GT6 in the Red Bull Fan Car & Formula Gran Turismo.

Also on PS4

Enjoying/hating Race C today. My quali lap is decent and I start near the front but can’t get a clean lap on cold mediums! It nearly came together from third today as second and first collided on the Dunlop curve but a slight distraction/correction from that put me on the grass and spin… from there i cleanly fought my way from 11th to 4th! Pleased with that! I sense a win in the race but it needs some luck/nerve on lap one to make it!

Please let me know what it’s like to do a longer race with tire changes in VR without the heads up display. I want to get VR, but it sounds like longer races will be impossible!

Impossible how? I've done 3 endurance races in VR, it's fun yet exhausting

I even lose count of my reps when I'm at the gym so I'll likely be changing tires based on the wear indicator. I share your concern and will let you know.

Edit - oh, wait, there is a lap counter. All that's missing is the leaderboard on the left. I think it'll be the same; just that you can't know how far people are from you via the delta.

@BigSarj what kind of quali time have you managed for C this week?

If anyone is racing mostly C this week, I'm rde1138, currently A/S but probably dropping soon. Having trouble putting together 10 clean laps!

@Bullwinkle as far as tire changes go, you just kind of should have a strategy beforehand in VR. You still have the tire wear indicators as well as a lap counter, so it's just fine.

Agreed on the VR. Love driving it and lapping. It's a shame the driving in the race has been so crummy so far. Lot's of chaos. I do think they need to tweak the size of the cockpit. Getting a lot of fade in/out if I happen to lean to a side when driving. Haven't noticed this too much with other cars.

THIS, I like to lean into turns and everytime I do the screen goes black

I did a few laps and got a low 36 but I'm pretty sure I can get 35s if I can figure out the hairpin. I feel very slow through it. Certain corners seem to be easier for me in VR, though, such as coming out of turn one and also Spoon.
