What kind of lap times are people doing in daily race B? My QT is in the 2:05s, but my race lap times are 2:09 - 2:11. Anyone else experiencing that, or do I just suck? (I suspect suckage is the answer.)
My QT is ~2:06.3 but my race lap times are anywhere from 2:07-2:09. I'm a slow DR B driver. You are a faster B driver, right? Maybe you are getting stuck with some other drivers that are all fighting way too hard to get a position on each other and end up actually running slower because of it. If you are somehow stuck behind them there isn't much you can do but wait for one or two of them to screw up and go off track to finally pass. Unfortunately by that time there is only about 1 lap of the race left, so...

this forum has turned daily race qualifying laps into the essence (for me) of video games: who can get the high score? it feels like logging into Galaga every morning, as someone who had 0 PSN friends last year. i spent a solid 6 months with this game collecting dust after getting my DR where i wanted it, having these back-and-forths keeps it alive. plus i only race in the early mornings, and the races are 2 fast people and 9 others still learning sport mode.

and for some of us perfectionists, its more 'fun' to try and iron out the creases on these laps rather than duke it out. not to mention - if i know i'm running a full second behind someone on an 8 lap race, that race won't be very fun for me by lap 5.
It's not like that for me at all. If I know I am a full second slower than P1 in the race I usually still enjoy myself
I am now going to ignore the focus on Q here and just race.
Because I race a lot better than I qualify.

Personally, I think the discussion around QTs and the sharing of non-alien QTs that GrumpyOldMan initiated is great. In the past I would load an alien and not gain much feedback except that I am slower everywhere. Well, I knew that already..lol

Now I can take a ghost of someone who kindly shared one here and even if the ghost is very near my own QT time I can get to know (or confirm) where I am slow and where I am good. You take two people with 115.000 (for example) in race A and we all know they don't overlap ghosts the whole race.

I loaded a ghost yesterday that was only a 1/2 second faster than me but picked up that I can be more aggressive in a couple of spots and I would never have got that feedback from the alien ghost.

As far as this becoming a QT competition, then anything can can be a competition if you (1) let it and/or (2) want it to be. I don't care where I sit on my friends board as far as QT times. I just want to get faster so that I can have better starting positions in races and so I can be more confident in races.

I think we all recognize that everyone takes a different view on QTs. Some don't have time, some just want to race, some find them boring, etc. But, the fact that they are being discussed more, and ghosts are being shared, and there is some banter back and forth about them..... well that does not in itself make it a QT contest.

It only becomes a contest for those who see it that way. As such, it is (or should be) inconsequential for those who don't.

I think in the name or fairness it would have to be a solo flying lap come the race to set the grid, the griefing in daily race qualifying sessions with 16 cars on track would not be a good scene imo, I can understand why it works in the gtws but you definitely aren't getting that caliber of driving standards in daily lobbies every half an hour haha. Would also keep things streamlined and probably not cause too much issue with timing the race intervals.
yeah, I would be ok with a flying lap or two in dailies to qualify but only if everyone is ghosted. Jockeying for space and worrying about having your lap ruined or ruining someone else's lap stresses me.

Don't get me wrong, I like that the sharing of replays are talking off and it's much more useful than aliens, absolutely.

It's just.my own personal reaction to being several seconds slower here that I don't like.
Because it's keeping me from racing

i shouldve been more specific - i was thinking pretty much about Race A this week. i kept running 2nd, but first was a full second ahead of me, and was beating my quali laps in-race. at that point it feels like clearly theres something i'm missing and i've got the urge to go back and figure it out. and i didn't mean to imply its not fun if we don't win every race - i'm pretty good at realizing when i've hit my ceiling in Q times (this week for example) and i'll just either decide to race or not. and i've done a fair amount of B trial laps but thats because I'm trying (and failing) to string 4 laps together at the same pace - if i can't do that then i'll be a problem on the track.

RL racing you get practice sessions and a full qualy session and races longer than 4 laps. Who are we kidding?
With respect, you really can’t compare that with Lewis Hamilton nipping over to Red Bull to borrow their car for qualifying. :)

I don't see what it has to do with an inferiority complex
Because you don’t have one? I know & accept my limitations but I still dont like constantly being reminded what they are.

The back straight at Deep Forest is like playing Tetris when things line up just right 😄

I will never cease to be amazed by your skill. There are a couple of hockey analogies I could use.

The best hockey players seem to have sense of the whole ice, and who is moving where at any time, and where opening will develop and where they will close down. You have the ability to find holes that don't exist yet, but will be holes when you get there. I have trouble figuring out where people are; you seem to know where they will be....

The other one is speed. There is fast and there is quick. Fast is top end speed and quickness is getting to top end in a short time. I see you in these videos and have no idea how you can be in a pack of drivers and yet get the "quickness" they can't to gain 2, 3 or 4 spots based on superior acceleration. I mean you all seem to be in the same spot momentum wise.....yet there you go, shooting out of the pack in ways the other can't.

Pretty nice to watch.

Lol yeh not my finest moment. Went flying into the corner - forgot how heavy and dead the car is with full fuel. He has definitely been too aggressive with me in the past so whatever. That race was bad for me - my worst finish in Race C this week - but good to see a fellow Jaguar out there. Love your white livery btw!

The next race went better. Started in pole with hards, managed to hold off drivers on mediums for a while. Got passed by a Jaguar on L2 and then a surprisingly fast Alfa Romeo on L5. Pit on lap 7 at P3 for mediums down 4 seconds. First and second place pit next lap into hards and popped out only 1.5 seconds ahead of me. Managed to easily overtake for P2 on L11 and set fastest lap, but took me until the final lap to overtake as the rightful owner of P1. One of my favorite races.
Yeah I went back and saw the replay to see what happened. I was in 3rd after that and after another couple of drivers tussled themselves into oblivion. Lap 4 I ended up going to wide in the esses and my back tire hit the grass during acceleration, spun the car around and ended up in 8th. Recovered fine but would've had a podium otherwise. It's a good race, this one. I love the Jaguar here. The AMG as well though it's a little more brutish. Jaguar throws me off with it's shifts as I get used to the Benz/Porsche blinking at me when it's time to shift and the Jag doesnt lol.

Nice! I can't race much more than one or maybe two races a day. It's a long one and exhausting. That field was fairly stacked for B drivers though. I think I was behind you (6th?) and had a 1:26.1.

I have plenty of suckage to offer around. I QT 2:05.9ish but laps have been more like 2:12-2:15 to 2:50+ in traffic and perhaps 2:07-2:08 in clean air. I'm usually a couple seconds a lap slower than my QT when I keep it on track. But I'm low DR B.

I only remembered to save my last three replays but here are my times from last night.

Race 2 - finished in P4 - consistent through out but slowed on lap 4 at chicane as not under threat and to prevent any accidental slide outs.

Race 3 - lost it all in first lap. Finished P13.

Race 4 - shaky first two laps then consistent; finished P5.

High 2:04's, low 2:05's.
There's always one...

Dont think that way, i couldnt achive those times if i would think that way…

I am so surprised the Alfa isn't the meta this week in C. Ran three races with it so far this week and won each time. If you haven't tried the 4C yet, give it a go.

The one last night was AMAZING. I clipped the battle for the lead because it had a few different lead changes in it, but also because it shows how you can learn from your mistakes. I nearly took us both out heading into T1 because he was in the Suzuki - which I love - but was on Hards and I was not expecting him to brake so early. Just pure dumb luck I didn't crash us both.

But the next lap, I knew what was coming and was a little better prepared for it.

Man I love the Jag here so much! Will try it though! What is your QT in it?

It’s the hairpin. Can only get it right about 1/4 of the time in the Alfa and the other MRs. Okay for quali, not good for a 14 lap race.

I can not get the hang of spa to save my life, what's the baraking point for that big sweeping turn where your supposed to just let off the throttle, I always fly a mile wide
Search for a replay in Showcase. Use tag gtp12 for member replays. Mine is there among others.

Study the braking and acceleration point in a view that represents how you drive (bumper view?). For Double Gauche (the sweeping double left hander), lightly brake entering it (say 30% braking for a fraction of a second) and then power out staying in fifth. If you brake too much; ie being over cautious, then drop to fourth and power back out.

That's Pouhon.
What's this Pouhon? It's not on the track maps I've looked at.

EDIT: It appears Pouhon was renamed Double Gauche in 2007.

A lot of corner names in Spa have different names depending on who you ask - it's not unique to Pouhon, though I think Pouhon might be the most notorious of the lot for it. You hear Bruxelles called Rivage too.

It's pretty much "officially" Double Gauche but colloquially most call it Pouhon.

No Rivage is the corner labelled "Bruxelles". This makes sense because the road running alongside that corner is called Rivage. HEre's the coordinates

50.42745840871589, 5.973702674092892

Malmedy for example, is the nearest town to that corner. Now, I fell into this trap as a young man and booked a hostel in Malmedy. Turns out, Malmedy cabs are not allowed to travel to Spa so I had to walk and eventually hitch hiked my way to the GP.

It's the black one after the black one, near the black one.

Also it's an old version from Wikipedia - the site you mentioned before is merely using it (against the permitted use under the licence).

The turn with no name used to be called No Name, then was called Speaker's Corner colloquially, and is now called Jacky Ickx.

You would think this would be solved by going to the Spa official website but I can't find the track layout there. Perhaps I'm a :dunce:

My qualifying lap is a 2:04.7xx in the CLK. But in the race, I'm struggling to get into the 2:06s. I think it's a combo of nerves (only done 3 online races in GT7 so far) and not finalizing my feel for the track and car.

You're matched with others around your skill level. Your qualy times will be similar to theirs rather than the grand canyon gap between us and the aliens. You're usually around my times.

In racing trim use the flag marker just after the 50

Double Gauche is the Belgian nickname for Pouhon as it literally means double left. Corner is still Pouhon and is called that by commentators in a race as well as drivers.
It also used to be called Piff Paff ]
That is the nickname for Fagnes I believe.
