I made a UK account. For the challenge, I am doing no qualifying, at all. Back to front, every race.
It's a good way to test out different cars and also different drivers. I would say that racing late US night/early Europe morning gives a very different class of racing.

I haven't earned much in the way of credits or cars yet in this account so most cars are rentals. One race I accidentally chose the '08 GTR and I was like there's something weird about this car. It was quicker on the straight but less composed on the corners. It took a couple of laps to figure it out but it is actually a pretty decent car. Cam in 5th on that race.

Funny thing, is that while this was a "throw away" account I'm actually becoming fond of my GB progress and DR and I want to protect it! It has a much higher pole/fastest lap/win/top 5 ratio per race than my US account. LOL.

I did three races for round one: First and third I started on pole and won; the second is the one I was in your lobby and started P9? Kind of odd but whatever.

After the third race is when I got bumped to A. Came back an hourish later and now I'm in A+/A lobbies started P10. Guess I need to work on that quali time. Had a decent race going, making up some places but got pushed off Bruxelles and ended up in last. Finished P14. Did one more where I was in P6 going into the final chicane in the final lap. Other driver and I were almost side-by-side (he was attacking me). He left me space going through the tight right and I went to leave him space on the tight left but left him too much space, went wide, and lost the position... finished P7. Hate to lose a place on the final turn but I'd rather leave too much space and lose the spot than not leave enough and cause a wreck.

Yeah it's weird. Main account i have a 2:03:8 and start P10 average and second account, which is 98% complete to progress to A rating, I have a 2:04:1 and start top 5 every time.

Had a good race now, P3 start and finish but close and fair racing, was fun 🙂

2) Have you ever been at the start of a race, during auto-drive, when you feel like the car behind you is being overly aggressive? I mean, I know it's not really happening because everyone's being auto-driven, but it still feels that way. Maybe it's just me. 🙄
Not the same kind of thing but this made me think of my first online race. It was at Monza in GTSport. I was really nervous and worried that I would wreck people and everyone would tell me to go away.

I did some laps before the race and then did the "warm-up" to make sure my TSC was at 2 or whatever, and as soon as I got into the chicane this blue text came up telling me I was "going too slow," or something like that. I thought OMG, "the game itself is telling me I should not be here, and the race has not even started yet... ffs"....

I only came to realize later that the blue text always comes up at warm-up when there is a chicane or something slow. My guess it is a message linked to a minimum speed, and does not factor in chicanes.

Still laugh when I see it.

I think it's high time I posted my Top 5 Hits of things that happen around Spa this week...

1. Meta Nissan drivers having absolutely no idea how to deal with a different car in track, including but not limited to giving them absolutely no respect whatsoever. Leads me into number 2...

2. Overly keen tailgaters ruining themselves because of aforementioned lack of proper conduct, either by being too hasty and spinning out, or just getting plain beaten in a braking zone. Usually Les Combes.

3. Getting edged out leaving the chicane. Honestly, getting dumped onto the green stuff is one of the worst ways to go.

4. Disappearing Clean Race Bonus. I think I've managed it twice in a couple of dozen races. Are track limits really punishing? Or is the race so intense for 4 short laps that I forget what happened?

5. Starting around tenth. Having to deal with the chicane at the start and battling with unambitious mid-pack fighters leaving little to no chance of progressing up the grid.

I usually save and share replays of fun and/or eventful races, this week I have 12 from Race B. The average is around 5. It's been relentless.

But you’re old like me and forget quickly. Looking forward to seeing you in some Spa races later today. CRS is a good old folks ailment to have sometimes!
I know exactly what CRS is, and yes, it's firmly in place. Will go online again shortly. 😄
Turns out the noise (checking out Ring cameras) was teenagers banging on our windows and then running off at 11:30 at night. Damn it. I ruined a race for that! Women....:D
"Hey you kids!! GET OFF MY LAWN!!!"
Meta Nissan drivers having absolutely no idea how to deal with a different car in track, including but not limited to giving them absolutely no respect whatsoever.
The lack of respect isn't limited to different cars. That's how I've been treated recently, and I'm in the meta.

Wish I could enjoy race B as much as everyone else but the Group 2s are just a bit too much for me. Too fast, don’t trust the grip, way off the pace. Gr3 is about my limit so C has been very good to me, I’ll miss this one.

Have got to a point where the TC is clearly slowing me down now, but I’m too scared to turn it off for the races. I make up positions by not making mistakes - I know that with TC off I’m going to spin it at some point and ruin everything.

So I started P5. Got a 2 second penalty right at T1 for supposedly forcing someone off the track, which didn't happen. Nobody went off the track. Continuing on, people were punting people left and right, but I stayed out of it. Did well until I served the penalty, which dropped me to P10 or something like that. When I approached the chicane, someone tapped me from behind - enough that I couldn't stop, and I ran into a bunch of people (totally not my fault). When the dust cleared, I was back in P5... with a 5 second penalty. So I just quit. I mean, why even bother?

I started the week B/S at 95%. Right now I'm B/B at 75%. <sigh>.

Right now I'd have a different answer than at the start of this week.

Never heard of Daily racing with friends? Friends only lobby running every Friday with the daily races and 2 bonus races.
Tell me more! You should make an announcement each week (maybe on Thursday so I can plan for it?). That sounds great!
I'm done with Spa this week. If I were driving better, maybe... But if I'm just a little slow for my QT, people feel like they can pass anywhere on any part of the track. I'm so friggin' over it. I've been binned more than yesterday's trash. (Sorry, that's the best I got today.) It's gotten so bad I took it out on the guy who tried to pass me when I was P12!! (He was a leader who fell back after wiping out.) P12!!! Who the hell cares at that point??? I'm still shaking from the pissed-off adrenaline flooding my system.

I’m done with races this week. Race B is too stressful for my slow pace, and C is basically a parade where all I get is passed and all I can hope for is that people crash at the hairpin. I’ve tried a bunch of different cars, even the metas, and all info is go backwards, finishing in the bottom half every time. I’m sick of unregulated/unpenalized/weirdly-penalized races where there are no consequences for dirty driving.
However the text states it's a yellow flag penalty. (There was another driver facing the other way in the middle of Les Combes) I'm still annoyed as I was technically ahead before the corner.
Speaking of weirdly-penalized racing, why do we even have yellow flags when there is ghosting? All it does is screw people and doesn’t “protect” the crashed driver who has been ghosted anyway and who is most likely going to suddenly materialize in front of someone who will punt them and then get a penalty. Ask me how I know . . . .
zjn
I don't know what happened, no contact at all for all 3 cars
I’ve seen that weird bouncing car animation before, but only at Watkins Glen in that same exact location. Must be some weird glitch at that track. I wonder what it looks like from the bouncing car’s perspective?
I won a race there in a Slophy, but that was many moons and BoP changes ago. Likely still a TT-dominated event.
That Slophy race was a fuel saver, if I remember, and the Swift was the other meta that week. What a snooze fest!

I weaned myself off TC by grinding at the long Sardegna race. There is a long thread about it somewhere on here from June last year. I was able to learn the limits and gain confidence without the stress of daily races. I highly recommend doing the same at your preferred race to grind. The familiarity of the track helps immensely! Good luck! It’s worth the time invested.

You’re a baseball fan: have you gotten MLB The Show ‘23 yet? We could play some games online if you want a change of pace: I’ve never done that and wouldn’t mind some friendly competition to try it out.

You really have a lot of grip. The key is to shift up a gear as you apex and then power out (being easier on the gas for the acute turns).

The Gr.2 are so much fun. Another way to learn without TC is to do the time trial without it. That’ll teach you subtle throttle inputs.

I've transitioned from mostly B to mostly C and it has been a lot of fun. The first two laps are always chaos. I feel like we are a school of fish being chased by a shark. Once it settles down and the individual battles start to emerge its a good time. Lots of places to make mistakes and pit strategy is somewhat weighted.

I'm with you on the TCS. I'm still keeping it at 1 for races and off for qualy. To much going on in the race and easy to get heavy on the gas.

I turned it down/off as the cars got slower. Gr1-2 was TCS 2-3, Gr3 was TCS 1, and Gr4 I turned it off. After a few weeks, I turned it off for Gr3 and noticed that I wasn't even leaning on it anymore so I just turned it off completely for all classes. You will do better than you think!

So I just wanted to see if the B race was still where I left off this morning and it was different because it was an all B/S lobby and I was starting p3 but that’s where the goodness ended.

Got punted wide into the green on T1 and the the opportunists began hammering one after another. 💩

Battled for p12-13 at times but got punted in the final chicane as a response to my pass at the end of the straight.
Ended p14 only because p15 quit.

Might just go have fun in lobbies tonight if it doesn’t get better.

Spa is brutal for trying to get clean races. It seems if someone punts you from behind, you lose the CRB. There are also places where the track limits can be abused, but if you re-join at the "right" place - no penalty.

I was in a race last night where a "Twitch streamer" posted in chat - "Keep it clean, I'm streaming this on Twitch".
He was the only person with whom I had contact during the race, I never breached track limits. I got no Clean Race. All the contact was when he was directly behind me and ran into my rear bumper.

Anybody start a race and suddenly realize during the countdown that you are drowsy and a nap is better use of your time?! To make it even better, I clip D. Quick in the twisty bits of race C (Sorry again!) 13 1/2 laps to go and I refuse to DNF. I get it together but lap times are way down. What a slog.

I'm running TC at 1 this week at Spa, for races and qualifying. My best QT is 2:04.760. Unless your best QT is close to or better than mine, I'm willing to bet that there's other things besides TCS you should focus on to improve your time. Just my opinion, but there it is.

I love baseball, but not as a video game. So thanks, but no. I've gotta say, though, that when the new Breath of the Wild comes out (supposedly May 12), I may disappear from GT7 for a while. Or maybe just split time between them, we'll see.

At La Source I got a penalty for hitting another car. Curiously I was in front of the other car and they hit me in the side.

Now I’m sure it is because I was on the inside line and they were on the racing line so perhaps I was considered by GT to be a dive bomber (I’d argue I wasn’t) but I’d admit it wasn’t the greatest of moves but in the moment I did not see another option as the racing line was blocked.

For a bit on context, I’d got wobbly in the chicane and this group had streamed past me but was now blocking me from getting in the racing line for the corner.

My luck did improve at Spa by jumping back in a little later in the evening. 3 more races and had all clean hard racing with a couple of top 5’s and a lucky save for p7 in my last race.

Glad that we had a sizable gap between us and the field or I would have caused carnage on the last lap. Called it after this one so I didn’t hand out any of what I was getting earlier.

First save of a 360 on Pouhon and never touched the wall nor went way off the track.

Backwards on Pouhon

Finish and only lost 2 positions. Done for the day.

I believe this IS what one would call a dive bomb - and not of the good kind.

This happens so often it's uncanny, I often wonder if it's a troll to be honest. To the point where you really need to watch out for the ones banging on about clean races beforehand as they are often the most dirty.

Have to agree with Timm above man, I'm sorry but this is a pretty nasty move to my eyes. I get you weren't being outright malicious but you're carrying way too much speed into the corner and can only assume you got a rish of blood to the head when you borked the exit and the cars came flying past.

Knowing how much thought you put into your racing I'm surprised you came away from this thinking you were hard done by the penalty system.

I wasn’t thinking I was hard done by the penalty as I said it wasn’t exactly the greatest move, more that I was surprised that it gave it to me.

We all complain how dumb the penalty system is, particularly if you get brake checked, the following car gets the penalty but in this case I was in front and the hit came from the side, yet I still got it. I did not think the penalty system actually worked like that.

I do admit on a couple of occasions before the race starts I will search for said YT/twitch channel just to see who I'm racing. Last one I did, someone in the commentary called me a Rossell sprout.

I see your point and without seeing your inputs I guess the system had your speed as too fast, driving angle, and/or steering inputs were not sufficient enough to make that corner therefore you were the one at fault (and penalized) for this contact. Just my thoughts.

@TheNormsk

I guess without that contact you overshooted that corner and the guy on the straight beside you had enough room for the good old switcheroo.
Sad to say but that was youre fault. But things happen, set a checkmark and forget about it, next time you know it better 👍🏻

Part of racing I guess. Seeing how GT doesn't always ghost when it should it might still be useful. I was just unlucky this time.

I've never seen anyone get a penalty for that kind of contact. It was a stupid move and from your comments I can see you've learnt. I'd hazard a guess that the penalty came from the car hitting you from behind after the chicane. Also accidental.
