At the beginning of this weeks Daily Races C I was struggling a bit. Bad QT times, bad races, punted, punting… But today was a good day for my standards. It took me whole week but today I finally managed to set my QT time under 1:26. Still, not very fast but it is what I could do..

The races went very good for me and it seemed like that the punting on the hairpin was declining. But then… The final race of this week. I was doing well at this race. Started P8 and by the last lap I was on P4. I managed to get that position by doing a nice and clean overtake in the famous hairpin only to get taken out after the back straight by the driver I overtook. He got a 3 second time penalty but kept his position, where I crashed into the wall and finished P5. This game can be so frustrating from time to time…

Gave Daily Race B a go finally, after a lot of practice, just wasn't able to hook up a good enough quali lap, but I was like what the heck, let's give it at least one try. Started P12 for the race, so I had plenty of work to do and with the worse rolling start, I had to accelerate before the last part of the chicane. Race went pretty well, luckily got past the CLK LM driver just on the start of the twisty sector 2 on lap 1, up to P11. Start of lap 2 up to P10. Then looked like that is where I would finish, couldn't quite catch up to P9 and the pack a few seconds ahead.

But then 2 drivers ahead both made massive errors into T1 on lap 4, up to P8 and had a 6 tenth gap to a German, who had made a mistake. He looked quicker and got close, then I made a slight mistake on the last corner before the back straight, and fell to P9. But I had good slipstream and pressured the German ahead to go slightly off the track into the last chicane. I planned to do a switcheroo, but then I noticed the game ghosted the German, so I took the normal driving line and drove through him, back to P8. Not bad, I felt like my race pace warranted a P6 chance, but the qualifying and battling handicapped me slightly 🤔 Pretty fun race, so well done PD for giving us this combo 🤝

Infuriating night of racing tonight. So close to A+ DR I could almost taste it but thanks to lag spikes forcing me to cause contact, I've dropped down to A SR. And thanks to that, I'm now racing amongst people who perhaps don't have the level of racecraft I'm used to. Desperately trying to get clean races, the last one I was in I had people causing contact with me, resulting in me getting penalties, and a rage quit which is very rare for me.

Did one race C for variety as I hadn't touched it this week. One lap of practice, running the Corvette on hards first then going to mediums. No quali time, started 15th and finished 5th and whilst I didn't get a clean race bonus, it bumped me back up into S SR thankfully. I don't anticipate being able to make it into A+ next week with the races on offer, but who knows what will end up happening.

Gave some last hail mary laps to the DBR9 on my US alt and surprisingly pulled out a 1:24.6 in about 20 minutes worth of driving.
Extremely planted car, outside of having pretty bad entry understeer it takes every corner like a dream, it even takes the hairpin well without trying to kill you on exit.

Absolutely shreds tyres in the race though. 8 laps on the mediums and you're near enough running on rims. Still good enough for a win!

Hope this helps someone whilst there's uh.. 6 hours to go until the races change :P. Have heard it's a good car for next weeks Gr3 run too, so I might give it a bash.

I almost can’t believe I raced this much but to my defense (lol), I was home all week and got the idea that I would do some more credit research (I’ve done this thing a couple of times before), even though we all know the payout for online is shamefully low it’s still interesting to get some objective facts and numbers on the table. This time here I didn’t qualify which obviously impacted my finishing position, consequently the idea was something along the lines of “credit earnings for mid/low results in Sport mode”. Since there were quite a few races I’ve put them in detail inside the spoiler below.

Better late than never. I did two race C on my US account.

First race I started Q9 and was up to P6 on lap one when this happened.

I got to watch the whole field go by me while pointing in the wrong direction :D. I then idiotically drove myself into the barrier to give myself a penalty. What a Muppet.:banghead:

Last lap I’d climbed to P13 and hit the barrier again giving another penalty. Thought for sure that would drop me to last (P14 was right behind) but P11 had a 3.5s penalty so I remained P13. Still terrible but not last!

Then did race 2.

Started Q8. P7 coming out of the tunnel, I’m punted and drop to P13. Not again. I then spin myself out in the second tunnel. Down to last. Resigned to another bad race I plod on. I actually end up with consistent 1:27 to 1:28 laps except one with a .5s penalty and….

I end up finishing P5!!! Also CRB.

I couldn’t believe it. Then I look at the board and of the 15 cars starting only 7 finished! :D Still counts right? Hey never give up.

That race is worthy of a video and I captured all the shenanigans that led to the DNFs. It should be pretty entertaining.

For anyone interested in BOP/using non meta cars, here are the best time trial times for all the gr.3 cars for race c. Obviously this can be slightly apples to oranges when comparing since skill level varies between drivers, but take it for what it is.

Time is in milliseconds. Rankings may be slightly off since I pulled this data before the event was finished.

Also one weird entry where no car was listed...

At La Source I got a penalty for hitting another car. Curiously I was in front of the other car and they hit me in the side.

Now I’m sure it is because I was on the inside line and they were on the racing line so perhaps I was considered by GT to be a dive bomber (I’d argue I wasn’t) but I’d admit it wasn’t the greatest of moves but in the moment I did not see another option as the racing line was blocked.

Just my thoughts, but your apex angle and speed was impossible to make the corner, the car that touched you was on the correct line. Had you gone for the block pass it might have been different.

If the racing line is "occupied" you have to go slower and target the exit cut back. What appears to have happened is that you missed the braking point for your line. It looks like poor decision making or a dive bomb.

Being in front means nothing if you are going too fast to make a corner. Also depending on the other persons camera, even with the radar on, coming from so far back they wouldn't have seen you so turned in and were probably very surprised you were there.

What’s the block pass? Fwiw I do actually know I would have made the corner at that speed as I’ve actually done it before to avoid others in lap 1 first corner scuffles. As I said, this was more about the application of the penalty in that it can work, so it’s not always the car that hits that gets it. Anyway, as I said, not my best move and I wasn’t trying to “dive bomb” but in the moment I felt stuck in that position and thought I had no choice. With hindsight it’s always easier to see one’s mistakes.

Now for something different. Took one final race C on my GB account. Talk about a mixed lobby.

A+ to C. In the race the As we’re a different level. But the Cs and lower Bs had an incredible race. It was some of the most intense and cleanest racing I’ve done so far. Started 12 and finished 9th. I knew I would not get far up the grid but that was some of the most fun racing so far.

While not the fastest lap times I was pleased with my consistency, apart from the one penalty. P against a lap time means penalty, right?

What’s the block pass? Fwiw I do actually know I would have made the corner at that speed as I’ve actually done it before to avoid others in lap 1 first corner scuffles. As I said, this was more about the application of the penalty in that it can work, do it’s not always the car that hits that gets it. Anyway, as I said, not my best move and I wasn’t trying to “dive bomb” but in the moment I felt stuck in that position and thought I had no choice. With hindsight it’s always easier to see one’s mistakes.

A block pass is where you end up at the apex slow "blocking" the car(s) behind you from accelerating.

FWIW when you both made contact you were heading straight on at a speed faster than the person on the racing line who was turning to hit the racing apex. To have made the turn you would have to have come to a near standstill as the turning circle on those cars just isn't 90 degrees.

It means no odds to me, so not having a pop or anything just passing my 2p worth.

Sad to see the back of last week's race C in the end, that middle section of the track is fantastic and the tyres kept things interesting. Agree with the comments regarding the hairpin - although in a race where the field ends up spread out, it did add the possibility of someone spinning out - which was a bit of a bonus if like me you end up mid-field with nothing much to race for

Im in a really tough spot with this game and daily races.

So I'm not sure if its the combinations of car & tracks, the motivation to race or if I'm at a skill level where I'm struggling, but I've not done dailies for a while. The last time I can say I raced regularly was over the Christmas period when we had Gr3s at Suzuka. Since then I've dipped in an out of daily races and it got to the point where I haven't raced now in months.

Combos & Cars
Last week was the first time I spent an hour or two on daily races, I only raced 1 evening but I guess it's a start. In the end I only did Daily C, as I like the Deep Forest Reverse layout and also in Gr3s I find it fun. Had some mixed results in those races with a few dirty issues and some clean racing

Motivation
Id say my motivation for GT7 isn't low. I still play the game but I end up spending time either doing VR custom races or just doing Time Trial. During the GTWS weeks I also spend more time doing a few practice races and Quali laps so this id say limits my time doing Daily races. Also I've been in a racing league on ACC, so that takes up a fair amount of my time having to practice and do setups for the race. Ive recently too only just got into the Call of Duty online side of things so again I've been mixing up my time switching between the 3 games.
I feel like I have motivation still for GT7 but not for Daily races.

Skill Issues
So I'm at a high B level and I feel like that is my limit on this game. I have 3 account all on similar DR points. One of my biggest problems, which I think is preventing me from playing is I keep comparing myself to others and what lap times they are doing. So I would say I'm anywhere between 1.5-2.5 seconds of the pace of the top times most races. Just recently I've been quite a way of that pace and it's been more like 3 seconds. Now obviously some tracks favour me and others don't, but when I do my TT laps and then compare times, I then decide if I'm going to be racing in that weeks daily races. Last week I was waiting since launch for Gr2 Spa to be a combo. Finally we get the combo and I did even do one lap. In the practices I just felt like I didnt have the pace and that put me off from racing. Im not bothered about losing my DR (on my 2 back up accounts).

I want to race but this weeks Daily C is not my track. Never driven this layout until yesterday and my fastest time in a practice session was 1.39.0 which to me feels like I'm too far of the pace to compete in my DR.

To grab the article image each week I run a Custom Race with the right grid (size, cars) and Beginner AI so I can stage a shot.

This week that was made a much harder task by the fact that half the AI never made it up the hill on lap one.

I came round a second time and there were five immobile Sambabuses at various stages up the hill, holding themselves there on the brakes. In fact I couldn't even push them up the hill in my Porsche-engined camper.

Of course the remaining AI encountered the blockade on their own second laps and panicked, resulting in 11 immobile Sambabuses at various stages up the hill, holding themselves there on the brakes.

The amount of even I literally cannot is at an all-time high.

Race A is a lot more involved than i would've imagined.... you're in 4th/3rd gear the entire race, and the two turns define lap time... but taking 'the wrong line' on the flat parts can cost a few tenths, which makes the racing quite interesting. much more technical than the other slowcar races lately. by the end of the race, the 10 drivers were almost evenly distributed around the course.

and gr4 with mediums at brands hatch is amazing, going to try and overcome my annoyances with the penalty system and give that a go this week. i just worry that with 'side to side contact is never a penalty' there will be a lot of people getting shoved into the grass.

This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races: One Note Samba

A new set of Daily Races awaits Gran Turismo 7 players this week, with a very rare appearance of both circuit and track alongside more common fare...

“leading into the second hairpin which has absolutely no correct line, causing everyone to try a different one all at once”

I thought that was just me being useless at the track. Tried early, late, tight, wide. Probably will end up just bouncing off some poor fool who takes the outside line.

And I guess the obligatory brake test going up the hill lol

(Ladies and?) gentlemen,
I've got a big online racing problem: After doing everything possible to fix it, my connection still doesn't work as it should. As soon as I enter a daily race, the display falls from 5 green bars to one tiny red dot. Literally in every single race, no exceptions. Lousy connection, apparently. The spider graph in the sport mode menu where you can check you connection is all over the place: Sometimes completely fine, all green, sometimes very bad, all red. And it is like that since roughly last october or november. No idea why, it has been fine before. It first occured on my PS4, but hasn't changed since I bought my PS5. And it happens regardless of me using LAN or WiFi (the latter I only tried for research).

I usually don't feel any of it in the race itself, control responsiveness and driving behaviour of the car seem normal, I don't see myself or anyone else jumping or lagging, neither in the race, nor in the replay. But... there has been an instance once where I punted another car despite being seemingly one meter away from it, and one race where the race didn't start, and everyone in the lobby was shouting at me (without me even being able to notice it) to get out (@Barney Da Dog was a witness). I'm not taking part in online races at the moment because I don't want to annoy other drivers or ruin their races with unpredictable behaviour (which I might not even be aware of).

So, right now I don't know what to do.

What I DID, on the technical side, was:
  • Getting my LAN cables checked by a professional electrician (they are fine)
  • Having my router changed (twice!) by my internet provider for a new one
  • Setting up the connection parameters (IP adresses, DNS settings) manually, according to @Famine 's instructions post

All to no avail. Bandwidth is fine (1Gb account, 700 - 900 Mb are usually available when I check the connection via PS5)

What do you guys think? Should I take part in the races regardless? Does anyone have another idea in regards to the technical aspects? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Even as a certified qualifying nerd 😆 I miss competing in daily races a lot...

I feel slightly the same. My time seems to be more limited than normal. Which means I'm not playing GT as much as I used to. And then I want to dedicate some time to what I have left to do in single player. I seem to have gone backwards in terms of speed and DR rating from mid to high B into firmly low B. And even then a lot of people around here can be 2 seconds a lap quicker. I cannot get to grips with understeer in and oversteer out. However a combo like last week's B can help that as it is something I can enjoy. Unfortunately a couple of issues prevented me from getting better results in a few races. Perhaps I am glad I can't track my DR so I can't see how far it has fallen. But on the flip side being able to track it meant I had motivation to push on for better results.
I'm sure I will get better the more I play but my lack of playtime is probably hindering me at the moment.
I have raced you before and you have the skill so I wouldn't worry and from experience High B isn't the worse place to sit. I've had many brilliant races there.

A quick Google of your ISP (according to your registration IP address; one hopes you're not using the VPN for racing) shows it's well-known for throttling connections generally and P2P particularly.

Can't believe there was a dirty driver in Race A but hey there we are, 50mph their limit apparently! Race C is amazing, I love it!

What's the llivery called on your Sambabus in Race A Thumbnail on your video, I like the look of it but not sure what I should search under to find it in GT7? Thanks for any reply/links!

Thanks for the info. No, I'm not using VPN.

You mean, they do that on purpose, to save capacities / money / whatever?

Generally the reasons vary, but most will use network traffic congestion as a justification - or, back in the old days of data caps, because you've hit your data cap. P2P is often targeted as for "some applications" it's quite bandwidth-hungry, but it tends to hurt most console gaming traffic. If you're finding there's less of an issue in GT World Series events - on dedicated servers - you can probably bet on throttling as a reason.

As you have a VPN, try running a speed test while connected normally and then again through your VPN; you might find it's higher on the VPN because it's encrypted and your ISP can't tell what flavour data you're sending/receiving. That's a dead giveaway of throttling.

I'll test that tonight. Very curious what I'll find.

On the other hand, my son is playing online A LOT on his computer, and has never had any problems. And as I said, bandwidth seems fine usually.

Computer != console.

Most console gaming is P2P of one type or another (GT World Series uses fixed servers, not P2P) whereas a lot of computer gaming uses dedicated servers. That's why it will more likely affect console gaming than PC gaming.

Have you tried deleting and reinstalling GT7 in car it’s a GT bug?
