Bit harsh!
Road cars of any sort take a completely different skillset to master than it does to throw a Gr3/4 car around a track ad nauseum. You have to master the art of playing with weight and momentum rather than relying on the car doing exactly what you tell it to do. It's a minivan, after all. You have to treat it like one.

I think it's unfair that PD relegate people good in these types of cars to having unranked races only. It's very nice to have an opportunity to improve your ranking using what you specialise in.
There's plenty of people I imagine stuck in lower splits because they aren't so good in race cars but can dominate in a road car. It's only fair the opportunity to rank is there for them as well. I believe @sturk0167 is in exactly that position so it's not like it's an unheard of scenario.

On a more fun note, I had a couple races earlier where I finished 0.04s ahead of the exact same guy in two different races hours apart. What are the chances?

Yeah, it's nice that they've at least tried something new, with the ranked street car race.

Yesterday, before work, I did a few laps to see what it's like.
After work, I tried 2 races from the back. In the first one, I got caught in the middle of a demolition derby at the lap one chicane. I was knocked well off the track, and back to dfl with a 2 second penalty. Ended up 7th.
I managed to win the second one, due to some good fortune.
I will probably end up in SR trouble if I continue to start at the back.

I am really liking the cool liveries people are bringing. The van makes a good canvas. Plus, there are tons of commercial vans in everyday life, as well as movies and TV shows to emulate. I've seen lots of artistic creativity. 👍

Managed to do 1 Race B late last night, and have to say it was a lot of fun even if the lobby was a bit mixed, with it being an after peak hours race (past midnight). Plan to do some more today when participation is stronger at peak times, as I see a lot potential enjoyment from this combo for the week :D. For the racing itself, unsurprisingly the main issue surviving Della Roggia on lap 1. Manage that at it stands a chance of being a good race. Though it can be easy to miss your braking points into Della Roggia on any lap, especially if your in a group, so it's important to take car.

Did a few quali laps to get under a 2:11, but I think there's more time to find as my lap wasn't ideal. I'm glad PD have gone for such a wacky choice of car, it's a lot more fun to drive than one would expect. It can be chucked about in a way that belies the Alphards size and weight. In many respects it's a better choice then had they gone down the clichéd route of picking an Italian supercar, or just any hypercar really.

It's more varied, unusual combos like this that actually tempt me back to do try dailies again. Even more so if it's road cars outside of unranked race A. Endless Gr.4 and 3 combo's get stale quickly, with their use in GTWS Manufacturers and Nations where I only use them (aside from lobby races). Dailies should be more varied in my opinion, something an additional race could account for, as many others have said.

I don't have this van and won't be doing the race, but I might have to buy it just so I can put this on the side.

(If you work on your own car you'll understand.)

Just took delivery of the Fanatec DD Pro and set everything up but..... I can't seem to access the tuning menu as the button with 3 upward lines on the left side seem to be dedicated to "creator mode" and cannot be changed...

Any help?

Thanks!!

UPDATE
never mind, I'm a donkey! Found the actual button once I put my face into the steering 🤣

UPDATE #2
OMG what a difference this wheel makes!! I spent around 5 laps fine tuning the 5,000,000 different wheel settings, in combination with the GT7 torque/ sensitivity settings and....

Previous PB using G29- 1:56:5 after about 15 laps

Matched my PB on lap 1. Improved PB lap 2, again lap 3, 4 and 5! After 5 laps and still more settings to adjust - and me obviously getting used to the wheel, I'm already 0.7s faster than yesterday!!

Screenshots from yesterday and just now attached. I'm friggin so happy! 🥳😁

Congrats on the new wheel! Also, my condolences to any excuses you used to have.

Well my seat rig doesn't match the Fanatec stuff at all!

Steering is off-centre as wheel base clip and the stem for the tray bump into each other. Had to remove one of the bolt fasteners just to fit it so now entire tray is wobbly too..

Pedal tray holes don't match with Fanatec base holes so had to make it work somehow but not too well..

Still, happy for now 🤣

Last July was the last time we had that track. I had just started doing the Daily Races, and I loved that track so much!! Silly me, I thought it would always be that good. Instead, it took them 10 months to give it to us again, and this time they added weather (which is not my cup of tea, so to speak).

Unbelievable. It just goes to show that PD wouldn't know a good thing if it bit them on the butt.
You'll take your Nissan dominated dailies at Maggiore and you'll like them.

@Famine, had a bad day have we? I’m staggered by your driving tonight. And I’ve got receipts if you want them.
Well, as I've been creating video all evening for an upcoming article involving engine swaps, and in fact haven't played an online race at all since Special Stage Route X at the beginning of the month*, I suspect you've been "had" by the same imposter posted several pages back when @newmedia_dev encountered them...

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/gt7-daily-race-discussion.404847/post-14016875

My accounts are GTP_Famine and GTPEDIA, and GTPEDIA can't even access Sport Mode yet because I've been keeping it low level to observe changes you won't spot if you've completed the Cafe/Collector levels.

*Well, discounting one race each at Goodwood, Deep Forest, and N24 to help Chaz out, all on Monday May 22.

Ah hell, in that case I’m am super sorry. I did think it seemed utterly bizarre for “you” to race that way. I’m deeply sorry for the accusation. Is there nothing that can be done about this imposter?

And also, thank you for being super chill about it. That only adds to my embarrassment that I absolutely own.

I actually quite enjoy the fact I can occupy someone's head so completely that they have to pretend to be me - even if they can't get the car colour right. I'd have thought if you were that obsessed with me, you'd get it right that it's indigo, not purple.

Also they drive in A/A+ lobbies, and there's no way you'll find me in there  I've never been out of B the entire time I've been playing GT7 because I'm rubbish; I also don't race a lot - I only passed 50 online races with about two dozen goes at the SSRX race at the start of the month.

It's actually the second time I've encountered someone pretending to be me in Gran Turismo Sport Mode, so if I have a nickel for every time...

This was in a DR B lobby. Wonder if you’ve a second “fan”?

Ahhh nice, enjoy it mate! I upgraded to loadcells as well a few days ago and the performance increase was surprisingly instantly noticeable. I dropped my Deep Forest time last week 3 tenths within a few laps of trying (after getting used to them offline a bit).
Better pedals make for a crazy improvement. It's awesome stuff.

Speaking of the pedals. I also have recently acquired the 8nm and picked up the load cell as well. This is my first wheel so..yep..pretty amazing. Glad your enjoying yours.

Anyway!

Anyone know if you can plug the brake of the csl pedals into the load cell and use it as a throttle?

I’ve decided to go with a two pedal setup and some resistance on the throttle, which the old brake might provide(after calibration in fanalab) sounds really useful when it comes to feathering the gas etc. Also, theres a good amount of travel in the throttle, which feels a bit long, given my load cell is pretty stiff. Something using the brake would also remedy.

I'm a consistent B racer and I think I'm decent. How dare you. Also I met your mate in the race. 😁

Took my first real laps at Grand Valley today as we had a family get together for Memorial Day and I had no time yesterday. I'm having a very difficult time in the second sector specifically turns 7-10. I can't seem to find a good line through there. I have watched guides, but my brain cannot make it happen. More practice will solve that obviously. I set a time of 1:57.9XX in the Ferrari so far. It gets around the track fine for me. I just might time trial all week to really learn the track before I make a mess in the actual races.

Yeah, well it may align with what most people think but don’t take it as gospel. That’s just what I think and it’s also just after one race. Based on lap times (duh, lol), sector times and general feel. Anyway, as we’ve said in this thread several times, your mileage may vary and all that jazz. Some people like and perform better and worse in different cars. R8 LMS Evo felt more stable to me though and just generally noticeably faster through the lap.

Porsche is absolutely a fine machine here, as it is pretty much everywhere. Anyway, challenge amended. Will keep going and see how many different cars I can pick up a win in. Note that I got tired of no quali after nine races and set a qualifying lap after that.

So far, here we are:

Well that's my desires to run Jaguar in the next manu series slightly crushed hahahaha.

The Gr.4 is a bit of a beast, was hoping the Gr.3 could keep up, but haven't actually tried it yet.

When the guy behind you is much faster but your car has a big ol V8 (Murica!), plus a J-Lo booty and you just know where to put it.

I really don't think I did any blocking here, I was just trying to be where he wanted to be positioning my car just enough to be in the way I definitely feel like I kept my line once committed to it. I did a lot of apex parking as he could've "ol-switcharooed" me probably a half-a-dozen times but obviously there's nothing wrong with that. If you guys think anything I did wasn't copacetic, I am all ears.

I am not particularly proud of that last chicane either; I braked a smidge too late. My intent was to defend the inside and hold the inside but physics had other ideas. I think I would've kept it on the track without that little bump but that wasn't my intention.

Ended up winning it by .018 in probably my closest win ever (other than like the oval races). One more lap and I think I was in trouble.

Solid defense!!

For anyone suffering N24 withdrawal symptoms, the GTWS will be racing there on June 14th. Gr3s, looks like the same variable weather as the recent daily. You can just sign up and do that one round of the championship - 7 lap race for DR A and up, 3 laps for everyone else.

Luckily for me the vast majority of people in DR C missed the memo on Monday. I was the only one no-stopping, picked up so many free places, managed a few podiums and levelled up to DR B.
Got a podium last night since the guy in P2 forgot to switch to RH before the race. I’m already a little bored of Race C this week after only 2 races. Started P2 on Monday and finished P4 since I made a mistake and the Silvia doesn’t quite have the race pace of the Ferrari. The top 4 just ended up in a train after a couple of laps. Played one round last night - started P4 and finished P3 in the Ferrari.

I’ll do 1 Nations race tonight and probably nothing else.

Heh, yeah at least in this combo it was one of the worst IMO. Perhaps it does better when wear and fuel comes into play but it certainly didn’t impress.

The defense is quite good (apart from the final chicane on the final lap) but also highlights the issue with the R.S.01 here and why I demoted it a tier, it suffers a lot in acceleration and clearly struggles with overtaking even though it’d be quicker in clean air. Perhaps a car to run away in if competent enough but not a good choice if one’s not Q1. Regardless, nicely done.

Did a couple of race C on Monday. First lap seemed to be survive if you can, then the field spread out and it felt like a lonely Sunday drive. Couple of people not using hards was the only reason I higher than my midfield start. Will jump in later in the week but not particularly excited.
