Well, it's been a long time coming, but I got there!

In fact, it's been about 4 months:

Hopefully I can keep it longer this time.

Congratulations Grumpy!

I did 5 races B tonight, except for one when I was crashed from behind and finished 13th, the other were pretty good results for me, with the apex a 3th position with clean race, I'm happy with this week being my first in C-DR since my earlier time playing with the controller, I needed two weeks to come back with the wheel and I'm actually at 60% of C....let's hope tomorrow I'll find other decent users.
I need to improve my time trial execution to get better QT, I can't start in the middle of the pack all week long if I'm aiming to improve the ranking

I’m level B in driver rating, on the lower end of B, and usually when I play daily races I’m usually paired up with only B drivers.

But with race C this week there’s often a bunch of A level drivers in the same race.

Do you think this because there is a smaller pool of players in this race and so I am by necessity paired up with a wider range of drivers?

The 4C and the RS01 would be at the top of the list for me.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I do often drive the RSO1 because it is so forgiving, so I expected that one to be high. Just bought the 4C today. Haven’t tried it yet because when I buy a car I immediately go to GT Auto to waste time by looking at all the liveries and then waste more time putting them on the car only to find that I can’t decide which I like better so I waste credits by buying all of the liveries I like, and then when I’m done with all of that, it’s all for nothing because I end up putting the original livery back on because it actually is a pretty cool looking livery. So as soon as I’m done with all of that I’m going to try to acclimate to the car.

Found time for some Race B last night. First one I started 4th and spun myself out at the end of lap 1 to finish 14th. Second one I started third and finished third after a great chase all the way through. Snagged a fastest lap on that one too!

The third was a mixed A/B lobby, I started 11th and was making up places due to mistakes and incidents. On lap 3 I'm in 7th and the guy in front messed up the chicane. I got a 3s penalty for hitting him, I didn't think I could have done much differently to avoid it, at least not without just piling into a wall myself! But I kept going as fast as I could, took the penalty and dropped to 10th. I was right on the tail of a pack of three and put in a lap to keep on them and take advantage of any mistakes. Got a lovely move done at the downhill left at the end of the lap and pulled it back to 8th.

What do you think of the penalty? I feel like the other guy should have been ghosted at that point, but... 🤷‍♂️

As an aside, the ”gentleman” who finished just behind you appears to have made at least two attempts to bin you after you got past.

Then again, maybe I’m just an old cynic.

Oh, and you just got PD “justice” with the penalty. He should have been ghosted, but that seems very hit & miss at the moment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyone else suffering badly with SR damage from doing Race C?
I have a theory.
When PD cut the laps to 6 I don’t think they adjusted the positive sector awards accordingly. As a result, it is nigh on impossible to recover any negative SR penalties over the revised distance.
Thoughts?
I did watch from his point of view too. He's definitely close, but I don't think he was aiming for a punt.
And yeah, I definitely think that penalty was a 'special' one! 😁
The amount of races I've had ruined because of people not knowing how to take the chicane is insane. Ghosting at the chicane (at the first corner, at the very least) seems imperative at lower levels and would've improved the experience threefold.
Then why bother racing? It's just time trials if you ghost everyone all the time.
Whatever is happening in that chicane right now is also not really racing.
How you drive on the rest of the track is pretty much irrelevant because the entire race is decided in that chicane. Often there’s simply not enough time to react to anything because you are already on the knife’s edge even when you go through it alone.
You shouldn't really be on a knife's edge if you're in traffic. As you note elsewhere you can't expect others to be doing the same and taking it perfectly. You have to give up some speed for awareness and ability to react.
This isn't aimed at you specifically but a long term observation that too many players will race as if it's time trial and expect others to not be in their way.
Well I've been enjoying the Race C quite a bit this week. The whole late 80/90's Le Mans feel. But imo the overall balancing has been quite poor.
I have been running my Porsche 962 as quickly realised the Hybrid car I had was obsolete! The Porsche, Sauber Merc and Jag are fairly eveningly matched but the Mazda and Nissan are so much faster 210mph vs 220mph that there's just nothing you can do, the slight benefit in the corners is minimal when your blasted to smithereens on the straights.
Do you think this because there is a smaller pool of players in this race and so I am by necessity paired up with a wider range of drivers?
I'm not sure - it could depend on when you play, whether you're on PS4 or PS5, and what servers you use (US, Europe, etc). My experience as a high B this week made me feel like there were more people playing this week than last, because I rarely ended up in a room with A players. But who knows?
After my last race, I was feeling so sad and insecure about myself that I had to call my parents and force them to tell me that they love me... 🫣
Things started well enough, I improved my time by a few milliseconds (still technically a 1:38:5) and it was good enough to start in P8.
Within half a lap, I was already in P5 and by the end of lap 2, I was in P3! The driver behind me was involved in the lap 1 mayhem and he was fast, had a 1:37:X qualy time so he's way faster than me.
I defended for a lap but he eventually pulled a great move at the end of sector 2 on lap 3. I even gave him a lot of space as I was really impressed as it was happening!
Then, final lap, for no reason at all I mess up the CoD and crash hard, falling down to P14 with just half a lap to go... 😢💔 I managed to pull a double-overtake with a few corners left and then the guy in front had to serve a penalty, meaning I at least recovered a bit and finished in P11.
I'm so gutted and angry with myself lol ⚰️
I am a donkey.
I am a donkey.
I'm sure you know we've all been there. Sometimes it's just unexplainable. But for me, it's usually when I'm distracted looking at how far someone is behind me, or in front of me, and I forget to concentrate. Which is usually recoverable, but not on the CoD.
The last race I had, I came oh so close to it being unrecoverable on the last lap, coming down the curves on Sector 2. I was hanging on by a thread, probably going about 50 mph to keep from going off the track. Fortunately I knew I had a 5 second lead on the guy behind me, because that's what I was looking at when I lost it. Still hung on for P3, but it was butt-clenching time for sure.
And of course I was berating myself, using much stronger words than "donkey". :lol:
Guys I need some help:
I’m 2 to 3 seconds per lap slower than my usual times and I absolutely cannot figure out why. I’ve tried everything and I would appreciate it if anyone had suggestions as to a possible cause.
For some reason this weekend my lap times fell off a cliff. Friday, I did 1:40 seconds on Dragon Trail on like the tenth lap I attempted, before that I had never raced a single lap on this track.
Since Friday, I have run literally 60 to 80 laps on the track and have only managed to break 1:42 like two times.
At first I looked at settings to make sure I didn’t do anything weird with the assist settings or something, but everything looks fine there.
I went through pedal and wheel calibration and there are no issues. I watched replays of my laps and while I’m not quite sure, I think it’s my acceleration that is the key issue (although top speed seems a bit diminished as well).
I made sure all the cars I regularly use are in good shape with oil changes etc.
And I’m slower in every car compared to my normal laps.
My DR has been destroyed. I was a solid B on Friday, now I am low C on the brink of being dropped to D, and that has been a really tough blow.
Does anyone have any ideas, no matter how unlikely, as to what could be causing this?
I've had this exact thing happen to me a couple of times in the past. And I can sympathize with you, about how absolutely maddening it is! But I eventually figured it out, so I'm sure you can too.
You checked all the obvious things I would have recommended, so all I can do is tell you my experiences.
I eventually discovered that I had started doing a couple of things wrong, that added up. For me, one of the big things was I started accelerating on curves before I got to the apex. I have no idea why I started doing this, but when I realized it, and went back to making sure I had at least hit the apex before hitting the gas, it made a big difference.
Additionally, I had started braking later than I should have. So basically, I stomped on the brakes before the corner, then stomped on the gas, and never gave the car a chance to balance out.
Even if you're not doing those specific things, you've obviously changed something. You might consider driving some laps trying to be smooth, without even looking at lap times. For me, when I try to bear down and go faster, it inevitably leads to me going slower.
Good luck - you'll figure it out.
PS: Oh yeah, one other thing that helped was trying cars I absolutely did not like. After driving them for a handful of laps, going back to my normal car(s) was like swinging a weighted bat, then swinging a normal bat.
If TCS & ABS are set as usual....I'd dare to say that you're maybe just tired.
When I'm tired, not of GT, but in the real life as work and so on I just can't be fast as usual, I try, I also get frustrated, so I know that it's better to turn GT off and be back when I'm fresh :D
About me, today I did just 2 race B to gain some points awaiting the track change, started 10-11 and finished 6-9, raced with my own pace gaining on user crashing by themselves
Have you changed your OIL?
Next week's races (may not be accurate):
Daily A- Grand Valley South. Gr4 AWD only. Racing Hards. 1x fuel. 1x tires. 5-8 laps guessed.
Daily B- Daytona Road Course. Gr3. Racing Hards. 1x fuel. 1x tires. 4-6 laps guessed.
Daily C- Road Atlanta. Radical SR3. Sport Hards. 1x fuel. 1x tires. 8-12 laps guessed.
Should be a fun week if these races are accurate.
Did some practice lobbies tonight and Daytona road course was good but I was most surprised at how well the Radical was on Atlanta. It fits the course at least as well as the roadster and maybe even better!
We’ll find out soon enough 😁
I enjoyed the Radical at Road Atlanta a lot more than I exepected. I was thinking of concentrating on Daytona, but when I found a Marquee Club livery for the Radical everything changed! I've had many many good nights at the old Marquee club in the 80's and 90's. So I can't miss the opportunity to spend the week racing in that livery.
I even snuck in a sneaky podium position with a little trick. I was running 3rd, but 5 or so laps to go I could see I was being caught and didn't have much chance of staying ahead. So I thought maybe...if I don't pit until he's passed me he might not have read the rules and realise you need a pitstop. Whereas if I let him see me pit he might then get the clue. It worked! I should have been 4th by rights, but he didn't pit, so a podium it was.
See they haven't learned their 4 laps lesson, not surprised at all, but it makes Daytona a joke just like Seaside last week.
Whatever is going on there it's not racing.
I know that race A is not always very popular on here. But what where they thinking putting this car and track combo together with very sensitive shortcut penalties? It's carnage out there. Do PD not even give these races a moments thought?
The other races look better, so I will have to put my SR on the line this week!
I am in a new account. Approximately how many clean race Bs does it take to get to SR: S? I have little time and want to improve my SR till the Gazoo Race on 6.8. I don't care for my DR until then. Will start without qualifying and just pick up the pieces if people fight in front of me.
I was definitely up to SR S by around the 10th race on the new account, may have been as few as 8.
