There's literally no good reason not to use at least TCS 1.
It does not pull power, like it used to. It only helps gain traction in a straight line.
People always spinning out on corner exit.
I totally agree but you can still spin out on corner exit with TCS1. Don't ask be how I know
I got my CSL Elite V2 pedals today and spent several hours tuning the settings and learning the new muscle memory for braking. After doing that, these things feel AMAZING! While they feel great, I'm not any quicker yet, but I have so much more control of my braking, I don't lock up, I appear to apply more braking force with ABS at weak and I have limitless modulation on braking. Now for the tricky left hander after the CoD on race B I can now consistently place the car wherever I want.
So with some new found optimism I took part in a few races. My first of the week.
Race A
I did not spend much time learning the car but it was a hoot to drive and I thought my 1:06 QT was reasonable enough. Started 6th and got up to 3rd I think but in the slidy slidy nature of the race, carnage happened and I slipped to last. Made it back to 9th but only because of 2 DNFs. Glad that was a no DR/SR race.
Race B - Round 1
Undeterred, I found I would finally try race B. My warm up had been great. New fastest lap, nailed the C.O.D. on every run with no wall contact and finally felt good about all the corners (with helped from the new pedals and some more setting changes to the GT DD wheel so I didn't feel like it was fighting me anymore). I started P10 and hit the C.o.D. with just a lift, but caught the car in front and had to cut the exit to avoid them, giving me a .5s penalty. That also threw my pace off and after that and through lap 2 got very abused by other cars. There was lots of hitting. I was knocked down to last at least twice but in the end I had the speed over the back markers to get back to 13th. Not a great start.
Race B - Round 2
Started P10 again and had good start. Entering the CoD I lifted as normal, after backing off a bit to give the car in front some room, only to find that car hit their brakes as they entered. I had to hit mine to avoid them which threw me off into the wall with a glancing blow (my only wall hit of the two races). What got me was that I got a 5 second penalty (not 0.5, not 1.5, but 5.0s) for hitting a car. I checked the replay and I did not hit another car. I was able to avoid the car in front but there was some action going on behind but that was it. The car behind me hit the barrier after I hit it and then they then hit me. They then spun 180 into the opposite barrier. Technically they hit me, not me hit them.
It feels very unfair to get a 5 second penalty there. I think GT7 mis calculated the other car crashing as a result of the impact between me and them but when it was really the other car, not handling the braking going on ahead.
Distracted by the penalty notice, I then spun in into the left hander at the bottom of the hill (see you can spin on TCS1!) The 5 second penalty killed me but after that I hunkered down and hammered out some really good paced laps and cleanly made up ground to finish 10th; where I started. There was no point loss/gain in that one.
I looked at the video of my 5 second penalty incident from multiple views. I'll probably post it tomorrow and seek input, in case I'm missing something.
Called it a night there as I didn't like the crowd I was racing with in the two B lobbies I had. Perhaps I'll try tomorrow and hopefully get a less raucous crowd.
