Race B - I've got a competitive Q time even in the mixed A/B lobbies where I usually land a top 5 or 6. Last night must have had a lot of participation because I mostly had all B lobbies and a handful of pole positions. Before dinner, one of those poles I promptly threw away in the first run of the COD; Of course. Next race was shakey and wobbly and just trying not to embarrass myself with the poor driving.

So I take a break, have dinner and come back to more all B lobbies. Pole position to P1, Pole position to P2 and P2 to P2, all with crbs! There is no daylight at the end of my B bar and I may have to farm some dr points this week! Although, I have never been able to build on the freebie points you get when you cross over to A, sigh.

Ironically, if race C were still 12 laps, I would have been over there, having a blast with mediocre results. Even in the lonely parts of the race, I just enjoy driving.

I've mentioned before, its just fake dr points in a fake driving game, A or B doesn't really matter too much to me other than pride. I take the DR I have and run with it, I just happen to live on that arbitrary border between two letters!

was disapointed to be 2nd at lunchtime
I was in that race, mate. Thought I recognised your username, said Hi but you probably didn't recognise my nick on there (jdevlin). You were pole and seemed way out in front well into the race, what happened?

The guy who won simply outpaced me between the lap 2 when he pitted, and lap 5 when I pitted. Had a nerve wrackingly close fight to hold onto 2nd on the last lap. The one part of that race I do hate is coming out the pits on Cold Medium tyres and having to hang onto the position you've got.

Gave myself a massive scare in the race I won yesterday. Came out the pits for the last lap expecting a close fight with a driver who had been just ahead of me before pitting on lap 2. As I came out the pits I must have been looking off center, my VR was out of line and it confused the hell out of me, going over the pit exit line for an instant 3 second penalty, and struggling to steer properly until I got onto the Mulsanne straight and fixed the VR alignment.

Turned out the early leader had got into a right mess after pitting and mixing with the backmarkers, and no one else was even close so I survived the final lap in the lead.

I'm pleased someone has said this.

I feel like I'm a member of a dying breed which enjoys driving in GT7 above everything else. Ok, sure I like to be competitive also but that goes hand in hand with the enjoyment.

This is why I often end up spending a couple of weeks at a time taking a break from online and just trying out some of the single player content, just to try different combinations.

The thing that really hits home there for me is you're REALLY missing out on the competitive aspect (no lap times to target, no ghosts to reference and try to improve, not to mention the infamous AI). So inevitably I drift back into Sport Mode again!

Same here, I love the competitive element of driving a fast pace, but not so much the wheel to wheel fighting.

About ten years ago I switched from Club 100 Sprint races to One hour races. It was after getting punted off on lap 1 of a final at Lydd, then finding out how much I enjoyed having the track to myself at the back, just trying to do the best lap times possible.

Now I enjoy just trying to keep up the best possible pace for an hour, knowing if I slack off someone will catch me, and if I can find a bit of extra pace I can catch the guy in front.

Back to GT7. I had a very enjoyable 12 lapper at Le Mans. Once things had settled down I was around 4s back from the leader, I couldn't close the gap, but I was doing my best to stay in his mirrors and keep him under pressure all the way. He didn't crack and that's how we finished, but still a very satisfying race all the same knowing I did my best and still got a great result.

Was lucky enough to get a race done on main account an hour ago as the power went out for all my town lol..

Started P7 with everyone in front of me being A+ and everyone below A, so knew it would be tricky but it was nuts!

Made the rookie mistake of staring at the driver in front heading into the CoD for the first time and followed him into the barrier, but not as hard 🫣

The driving wasn't too clean around me and had some close calls and a case of a last second ditch to avoid a car in front. Finished P5 in the end 😅

Question on fuel for QT. I used to think that qualifying had an almost empty tank, i.e the perfect amount for a hot lap (though it never went down) and that in the race you would have to adjust to the fact that the car was heavier as it started with a full tank of fuel.

However these last couple of weeks or so I noticed that qualifying is now always with 100 units of fuel. When did this change or was it always like this and I was wrong before?

Important safety tip: When you're coming down the straightaway ending one lap and starting another, and the guy in front of you slows down to let you pass, be afraid. Be very, very afraid. Chances are, he's just lining you up in his sights to take you out for some perceived slight.

I had a few good weeks and moved off of the bubble for a little while and what I can say is that same overall clean competitive racing exists in mid A level much like mid to upper B level.

The desperate racers jockeying for upward gains for the next rank as well as not losing their rank make for a toxic environment in the bubble zone.

We might just meet up at the border crossing 😁

Enjoy your success this week!

I hope to get it figured out but time will tell.

nah man, I'm gonna have to drive up to meet you! I don't know why, but that AB boundary seems to be my limit (for now). But with each week comes some car/tracks that we are naturally suited to, I just need a few weeks like that to build some buffer. Never seems to happen though!

The weird thing is, high B or low A, I see a lot of the same racers. Except I feel like the universe is picking on me me - when I am in high B, I get alot of mixed B,A,A+ lobbies but when I am low A, I only see other As! Why can't I be that A racer in the lower AB splits?! I'm not really complaining and next time maybe I'll see if that perception is actually true, or just a perception.

Today seemed a good day.....ya know, had a perfect race with victory, clean race, pole position...I thought "ok, let's grind on Sardegna and call it a day for sport mode"....but then "nahhhh I'm feeling lucky, let's do it once more"

Obviously started 5, being 3, crashed by myself at the last turn of the last lap and finished 14th.
Everything I gained with the previous race destroyed in 20 minutes :banghead::D:D

ps. I need to focus on the breaking balance, I tried a few configurations tonight and seemed to improve my handling...but I never used it before :P :nervous:

I am currently suffering from a failure in confidence!
I've been there many times.
Just last week, I was reaching out for help with not rear-ending other cars in the braking zones.
I felt like I would be doing everybody a favor by just shutting down my console.

I think I was getting involved in car/track combos that just were no good for my skillset.
This week, I feel okay, as LeMans is a place where I'm comfortable in any car.
3 races with zero penalties, so far. 🤞

After getting disappointed that Race C was changed from 12 laps to 6, I decided to try it anyway. And it was still fun. The demeanor of the race has changed. Folks are considerably more aggressive now that it is more of a sprint than a short endurance. You are constantly pushed to do your best so that you can beat others when everyone has done their pits.

There's plenty of aggressive driving, so it might not be everyone's cup of tea, moreover when everything seems to happen in a blink of eyes.

I feel like PD may have axed 12 laps after seeing lower participation than usual. But even with 6 laps, the participation is pretty low as witnessed by races containing folks ranging A+/S to B/C within a single lobby.

I don't see why people feel the need to become overly optimistic and aggressive in Race C.

I like to start last and bide my time making up places. It was going well until I come in for my pitstop, but the guy behind me punts me into the pit entry wall and I come out the pits with a damaged car and a 3 second penalty for cutting the white line!

Needless to say I hunted him down and pressured him into going off, as he was trying to rejoin I made sure to wallop him as I went past. Sent him back into the barrier.

Lesson learnt, I'll stick to time trials alone.

I know we can change the brake balance in cars in Race B, but... does it actually do anything? The reason I ask is that everytime I change it, then check it again, it's reset to 0.

You gotta set it in the race menu settings car settings again at each session.

And yes. Some forward BB makes some of the twitchy MR’s driveable. I’ve been rolling coal in my 458 on the oceanic servers all day

I'm proudly back in DR-D....yesterday night I had 7800 DR points, back to 2390 after 4 races in a row with ugly opponents crashing around the track, tough tough day.
There's a need for at least temporary ban, at least...it's frustrating learning a track, driving to have a middle of the pack results trying to avoid problems and then be dumped, yesterday night I won a clean race with pole position, and now back in D.
Uff :guilty::D

Wish they'd have a rethink of race lengths and realise the shorter races only encourage overly aggressive and desperate driving.

So what if longer races cut out some of the player base, IMO it's the ones that deserve to be cut anyway.

The players left will be the ones actually wanting to do decent length races, for the most part.

Forgive me if this is meh opinion, comes off the back of a nightmare Race B where race etiquette seemingly had gone to die.

From a handling perspective, does setting brake balance towards the rear around 2-3 help to keep the front end track better and less under steer?
Been using same on both MR and FR cars.

I’ve used it for tire saving but for performance I’ve not been seeing an improvement trying to go front or rear bias on seaside.

I’m stuck at 1:39.5 and can hit very close to that in many cars atm but looking for other improvements like brake bias I’m just not changing my outcome.

Yeah if B was more laps it would at least give a chance to recover.
Again last night I’m starting deeper than p10 and get swarmed on the first lap by desperate racers planning to move up front with really aggressive moves.

At 4 laps it’s not a race that you can recover from getting knocked around.

This should really be in the TT discussion thread as that is where he spends his time. It was interesting reading that thread. I always suspected that the elite "aliens" would have world class rigs to eke out maximum performance but no, his set up is fairly run of the mill. Yes, it's a couple $k worth but it's not even direct drive. Regular high end Thrustmaster wheel and pedals with a nice cockpit. I'm sure many here have similar set ups. So that makes me feel even more pathetic in my abilities. :D

I think it does. I used to think it had a huge impact, at least when we played GT Sport (the car had more or less turn-in while braking). Right now, in GT7, I don't know if it's a placebo effect. Try it yourself in qualifying starting with the extremes -5 and +5. For example to get the best Dragon Trail lap time out of the the Huracan, I think I have to set it to +2, GTR +2, RX Vision +5...

Anyway it's normal that it resets. If we had tuning enabled in Race B, it would be saved where you set it in the tuning screen.
