Found those 4/10ths I was looking for and I’m sitting at a 1:27.9 in the RSR. It’s interesting that as I progress through the ranks, I have to look at different places for the speed. Turns out in this case, the majority of the time I found in turn 1 where I was holding the brakes for a tad too long into the corner. And then turn 4 and 6 where I needed to trail brake into the corner a tad longer - thus allowing me to initiate threshold braking about 5 meters later.

Makes sense I suppose. Turn 1 where I was holding onto the brakes, leads to a very long straight….so the sooner I get on the gas, the better. And turn 4 where I needed to drive in deeper and trail brake longer, is at the end of a long straight, and empties into a short straight. so I suppose it makes more sense to be at full throttle just a tad longer, as opposed to braking earlier and getting on the gas sooner - because that short straight doesn’t matter as much.

Still one of the very few “non-Genesis” in top split. Besides the typical “green national flags” playing bumper cars, the racing has been very tight and clean.

This week at Atlanta started out well for me - I went from DR B at about 80% up to 93%. But the last two days it's been almost straight downhill.
...
I don't know if any of you remember my first week of racing on this track, but I absolutely hated it. But once I learned how to drive it, it's one of my favorites. I just wish I'd had better luck the last few days, but that doesn't diminish from how much fun this track is to drive.
I think it’s the best track in the game.
Atlanta was the very first track I raced (ranked) in Sport and I was terrible at it. Since then it has become one of my favorites even though I'm still not great at it. Still, I've progressed a lot since January and I can only laugh at how bad my driving was back then.

After two weeks off GT, I jumped in using my GB account to test the waters at how rusty I've become. I hardly had a good QT so for the first race I started Q13 and ended P14. Not a great start. Next race Q11 to finish P5. That was more like it! That recovered my DR from the first race. A bit more QT improved my starting position for race 3 and I started Q9 and worked my way up to 6th before I got wobbly in the esses and ultimately lost it at turn 5 into the gravel on lap 4. That put me down to finish 11. My DR was hanging on to B by a thread and my lack on consistency was not helping.

Race 4 I started 12th and lap 1, P13 tapped me in the rear and sent me into the gravel. Not really their fault and they apologized afterwards but I had to brake harder than normal in the turn as two cars in front bunched up and went too slow though the corner. Unfortunately I was the one that came out worse. That dropped me to last and I never recovered. That dropped by DR back to C for the second time on my GB account.

Race 5, back in C, I thought I should do well. Q3 start but I got a penalty in turn 3 and then cursing myself for that I went wayward in the esses and put myself out :banghead: I was last but was able to recover to finish P11. Still, it dropped my DR even more. Had to stop after that..

So not a great start but I still like the track. I can be competitive on it but one slight bump/mistake and you're out.

Hopefully, tomorrow morning I can claw myself up the C ranks after losing so many points today...

Agree. We should watch something other than F1 once in a while!

I’m watching in the US on the Motor Trend app.

Did you clear the network data on your playstation or with your internet provider?
I got kicked out of 7 daily c races in a row with an error message the last 2 days. I e cleared the cache, rebooted and unplugged the system very frustrating. My internet connection is solid. Anyone else with issues?

Had some great races at Atlanta, getting my QT to 1.24.816 helped a lot.
My DR A rating is very stubborn at climbing, hovering just in puts me in all A lobbies starting top 6 and finishing usually higher. Next race P12 or lower with more than half the field A+ so lose DR then back to all A lobbies, rinse and repeat.
Oh well it's still been good clean racing.

Tried the Veyron? Started P2 to one, their QT was 0.5 quicker, could not keep up.
Had a go in QT and couldn't get out of the 1.26s

Sad but True.

Just to let out my 15years old week-end attitude :D
Give them a little leeway, they just ran two big real life competition, probably had all hands on deck. Too early to sign off all support.
months time then, you’ll be locked in with the same manufacturer. They don’t allow switching of manufacturers which is why we not had any like exhibition season recently.
The only time we have been locked in was when it was an official season in two sets. We signed up for both sets even if we didn't know the second set of tracks/races. In all exhibition seasons it has been free per season, in all official seasons it has been change between seasons, not in the middle.

After being knocked down to DR C yesterday on my GB account I got it back to B today. It took 6 races though.

The first three races were all DR C/SR S lobbies and quality driving that I saw. I progressed well to within one or two pixels of DR B.

The sixth place finish above was caused by this.

Hey, if you are going to go off track you may as well do it with style! :D

Then I got smacked over the head by GT's matching algorithm. The next race had this lobby.

[Rant mode on]
Why is it that PD thinks it is okay to match high ranked DR/SR S drivers with the dregs (SR C and SR B) of the next class above?
[Rant mode off]

I knew this race could be a **** show and it was. Little did I realize that I would initiate it!

I accidentally bumped P7 at the start as the braking was not what I expected and dropped myself to P14 and him to last. I was going to say sorry at the end (It was accidentally after all) but later he caught up with me and then deliberately knocked me off track. Nice . I ended up last (P14).

Looking at the video I see he was flashing his lights at me. Did not see that in the race as I drive roof cam with no mirror. If I had realized it was him, I may've let him pass but honestly I was rather cranky about the SR Cs in the lobby so I was subconsciously less "giving".

I needed two more races to recover from that drop. After walking away for a bit and then coming back, the next two were full DR C/SR S lobbies again. First race was a clean run from Q2 to P2 finish with CRB. The next race was a little aggressive and I dropped from Q4 to P6. Last lap I was still P5 but on the back on P3 and P4 who were squabbling for possition. At the chicane last turn, they take each other out and I jump to a P3 finish. Thanks! Turns out I also got fastest lap which is rare for me.

That pushed me back to DR B.

Have to say though, I often enjoy driving DR C more so that DR B. At least on the Euro circuit so far, DR B is a lot more aggressive and the driving quality poorer. DR C by comparison has been smoother driving... That's probably because my natural level is a low DR B. There I am in the thick of it. When I am in DR C I tend to be in the clean air at the top. It's much more relaxing.

Q3 start but I got a penalty in turn 3 and then cursing myself for that I went wayward in the esses and put myself out :banghead:
I did that earlier this week. Only in my case, I was shocked that I got a54 second penalty for booting someone, and was so flabbergasted that I never stood a chance in the esses.

Interesting to see how big of drop in DR percentage going down to C.

That makes no sense at all. Has this happened a lot to you?

Seems like gt sport was a lot better about keeping sr s drivers away from the riff raff. Also it seems to me that it is much more difficult to achieve or maintain a higher Dr rating in Gt 7. I assume better players were more likely to migrate from sport to 7.

Apologies for quoting myself but:

This!

Getting a little tired or racers from a DR level above the majority of the field but with poor SR being included in “our” race. Last race C I did had four B/C rated drivers appearing in the field of twelve C/S drivers. Hardly a shock that these interlopers took the top spots.

It seems like poor SR B rated drivers getting rewarded at the expense of DR loss to the C rated (good SR) drivers.

Maybe the tactic is to lose SR then you can drop into lower rated races to improve your DR? /sarcasm mode off.
The matching system is a joke.

In addition to this, when you do post a decent Q time you quite often find yourself 9+ on the grid. I’m sick of chasing scraps after posting an at least half decent time for my level. TBH I had literally just decided to not do that next week when I saw this post. I’m going to run 2 or 3 laps to get a time and that’s what I’m going to use all week.

Whilst ranting is in full force, driving standards have now reached an all time low IMHO. No one is able to pass you without some form of contact and trying to pass someone yourself is like poking an angry wasp in the eye with a burnt stick!

Post done, /rant not over, just parked.

It’s because PS4 and PS5 players are separated in the daily’s. So “technically”, there’s less of a player pool to match from on your respective console

This hits a little close to home. I'm sorry if I ever stung you! I'm trying to be a better person, honest!

(I'm half-kidding here because I know you didn't mean me personally - on the other hand, I have been known to take things too personally, which I am honestly much better at.)

Not sure of the relevance to SR ratings.

Personally, I would rather have a race with fewer people than be forced to accommodate dirty drivers. Let those folk who enjoy that sort of things do it to themselves, not others. It’s yet another example of PD contradicting themselves.

”What is sportsmanship. It’s the way you interact with others (platform & numbers permitting)”

Is there an official source for the PS4/PS5 server seperation?
Official source? Not sure.

But it’s been pretty common knowledge for the past 18 months as far as I’m aware of

They do not separate the bases for FIA though

Wanted to have my wife watch a race, just to show here what it's like. Someone binned me at the end of lap 1. I got stuck against a wall, and couldn't extricate myself quickly. Once I was back on the track, I was last, 6 seconds (or more) behind P15. So I quit.

And I said to my wife "Yes, that's exactly what racing in GT7 is like."

Did a C race after dinner, I admit that I haven't worked through the week to find a good QT and indeed I started 13th...good start with medium tires, a big brawl between driver in front of me saw my poor Genesis reach the 9th place, during the 4th lap I decided to switch to soft before anyone else made it, just because, so back in last position cause in the meantime a couple of users exited the race.
I was going pretty good...and then I spinned after the uphill slow turn, lost a lot of time just to be back on track and it destroyed my race, a couple of users after the pit stop understood that I overtook them just driving around and became pretty aggressive...and so I finished 11th....without my mistake I could have been in 8-9th p by the end.
Still C ranked.....4240p with a floor of 4000, it's cold right here :nervous:

Trying to get official information about daily races from gran-turismo.com.
For some reason the manuals for US/GB are different.
us
gb

GB:

US:

Anyway, good to see both manuals are up to date...
GB has three 20 grid races, US has just one 20 grid race.

I was a little apprehensive racing on my US account but I got my QT for race B into a 1:25.7 time and I was consistently running around low 1:26 laps in QT. Figured that was good enough so I jumped onto a race.

What a close race though a bit processional. Barely anyone overtook and it was very hard to pass. In a way it was a little frustrating. I could feel I was a potential second per lap quicker than the race pace but not quick enough or skilled enough to find the passing opportunity. I was on my brakes or backing off a lot to avoid hitting the car in front.. However, everyone played nice so you can have clean(ish) racing at RA.

It all changed in the last three corners (from the chicane). Chaos happened in front of me as one goes off and comes back on track causing a collision and then ghosting. In that I bump a car in front causing then to off and jump to 3rd. I felt bad for that but in the chaos I think they backed off or braked and there was nowhere for me to go. That bump slowed me enough though for the car behind to catch and last corner, side bump me, to take 3rd and bump me to 4th. It's a shame to lose 3rd but I can't be annoyed as I would have come 6th if not for the ruckus up front.

So how do you overtake in this situation?

So how do you overtake in this situation?
You had a long time (relatively) to see that someone was off and was in the process of likely being on the track very soon.

The two in front of you had the same view and seemed to react by slowing down / braking. You didn’t and hence the contact.

Had you also slowed slightly, you may have been able to pass the whole incident to the right and head up to the line to finish.

Then again, you’re talking about micro-seconds, at least one car ghosting and a whole mess of other events occurring randomly in a very close race. In the circumstances, perhaps it is what it is.

Technically, I believe it’s an event under the “**** happens” category.

So how do you overtake in this situation?

Think about how far in front of 5th you finished and who ultimately finished 3rd. The secret is to realise that you aren't getting places in the final chicane unless there's chaos. If there is chaos, you need to be far enough back that you can react and take a clean line through. Giving up a couple of tenths by slowing early on the approach to the chicane could only have 2 outcomes. 1) No chaos occurs and you finish 6th by 0.7 seconds instead of 0.5 (who cares?) or 2) Chaos occurs and you have maximized your chances to avoid it, maintain speed and finish 3rd (like the McLaren did).

Overtaking in those situations isn't about being faster, it's about understanding the likely scenarios and being smarter.
