For those who think this is not the way, it absolutely is the way. No one IRL has success by slamming there cars into other. It can be done in GT because the damage is so unrealistic. If contact were a race ending situation, like real life, then it would stop happening.
It absolutely does happen in real life racing. It takes race stewards to determine a fair outcome. And it still really sucks for the guys that are unfairly penalized by someone else taking them out.

Watch from 49:00 on from last weekends MX5 cup race.

The guy that “won” got his victory taken away since he rammed his way to the front. In Gran Turismo, he still wins.

I see what you're trying to say, but the folks involved in that pile up, all ended in the grass. Where as, in GT, the instigator would get no penalty and also not go off track ;)

Anyone ever got banned for insulting here? I just called him "Affe", which means "monkey" and got banned for 7 days. If I would have access to the replay, you would understand that my insult was rather mild for what he did... I never did it before, but this was ridiculous. To be honest, we are nothing more than evolved monkeys, so I think 7 days ban is totally unfair.

I am fast this week for my standards, having so much fun and about to get DR A and now this happened. I really want to race again. Did anyone ever beg for mercy with the playstation support and had success to lift the ban?

Let it go. "Monkey" is a clear insult. Even "clown". With anything negative you're at risk. I suggest you use the chat only to say positive things. At best, after the race you can type "Really? Why did you do that"

Even "dirty driver" can get you suspended, since the PS support team only see the word "DIRTY".

And all of that is for both GT7 chat and PS private messages.

7 days is usually for a second offence or racial slur which is probably why you got a 7 day ban.

There is nothing you can do other than play another offline game, play GT single player or create another account on the PlayStation.

ok thx. Well, I guess "monkey" classifies as racism nowadays :-( I will learn my lesson
It was my first time ever, never did anything like that

The guy who started that whole thing was in the white #19 car, did NOT go off track, and went on to cross the line in P1. However, the stewards took that victory away from him due to the contact (and rightfully so)... whereas in GT7 he'd have likely still won. I think that was CMB's point.

I think you guys are saying the same thing just from different perspectives.

PS - Those spec Miata drivers are crazy... and crazy talented. Just because you're not driving something with 1000 hp doesn't mean beans. You have a car a few feet in front of you and a car a few feet behind you the whole race. How these things don't happen more often and how they can even see what they're doing is beyond me. Mad respect to them.

A 7 day ban does seem a bit harsh but perhaps in German that is more insulting and controversial over generally using the term monkey in English.

In English it is common to call someone a muppet for being an idiot but perhaps that will incur a ban next. Of course we all know where a hand goes in a muppet... :D

I'll jump into the ranking discussion with some observations I've been thinking about recently.

For me, where I QT is an extremely reliable predictor of where I will finish, give or take a couple of positions. I avoid incidents and run clean laps but my pace is usually matched well with the others in my A (for now!) lobbies such that I don't really have many overtakes without mistakes from others. So from that perspective, I've started putting more energy into QT, to mixed results depending on the week.

(BTW - this is another popular topic here. I think the vast majority of us don't overtake much, but if I'm running quality laps and someone spins ahead of me through no fault of mine, I absolutely deserve that position.)

I had a great run a few weeks ago where I was Qing at ~1000 for Gr.3 and my dr went up like a rocket. Alas, it wasn't sustainable, these last weeks I have been back to my typical average of ~2-3k. Still competitive, but the race results has my dr slipping a bit or treading water.

That's for Gr.3.... I have to admit right now that I am hopeless in Gr.4 to the point I've been avoiding it. I'm Qing at 4-6k in this category. I have no idea how I can be so bad there compared with Gr.3, but I can't find the speed in Gr.4. If anyone has "this one secret trick" for driving gr4, please let me know it! I don't really avoid it for dr reasons, but I'm not well matched in my lobbies and it is just no fun! There are occasional exceptions and I'll know just by where I Q.

All this talk about Q and Dr, but I will say, if I just love a combination, DR be damned, I'll go racing.

This is the attitude to take.

While we all like DR as a sign of progress and for some "bragging rights" (particularly if you get to A) once you do a lot of races you come to realize that you reach a natural level. Sometimes you may surge with a race you enjoy and other times you'll fall back. Eventually, for that race you'll find a new level and it may change with the next week's races.

How is Race B going for everyone? So far on main account it seems like a lot of contact but no real malice. Everyone going for those gaps (apparently, only I'm not 🤣 ) and contact is a result of it.

Still finished ahead of starting position for each race but I've also missed out on some very good results from the hits...

For Gr4 the trick I find is early upshifting on corner exit to maximise drive on to the straights.

Because they are so much slower that early throttle is super important.

It does depend on the car as well, the 458 needs reving all the way out but the 650s needs to be short shifted at just over half way to get the most from it for example.

And indeed since the 1970s.

You perhaps might not be so loose with it if you'd had monkey noises and bananas aimed in your direction for decades just for being black; you can find black footballers being subjected to this pretty easily on YouTube, and it frequently makes the news when black footballers in Spain and Italy (it still happens in the UK too, but a lot less often than it used to) are abused in this manner even today.

perhaps in German that is more insulting and controversial
It's the other way about. We know some very nice German chaps who called their company "Black Monkey" and were somewhat aghast when we explained why we were quite surprised by it.

Also their logo is a gorilla, which is an ape and not a monkey.

Yep. He needs to watch the clip again. I watched the race live and GT7 Sport mode was the first thing that came to my mind as I watched it all unfold. If I was Gresham Wagner, I think I would still be pissed 2 days later.

I’m not a Miata fan, but it’s definitely some of the best racing out there. The Race 1 finish was nuts too!

As a child of the 70s in Britain we were raised with a whole armada of racial slurs that we threw around without a thought. It's just the way it was back then. None are now used in polite society. I guess this one I'd forgotten about or just never used as a kid. My apologies to pretty much all nations and demographics that I probably slurred as a kid in the 70s/80s.

You never know what you'll learn on a sim racing forums!

I just want to say that Race C has been some of the worse racing I've encountered in this game. I don't know what it is about this track but every corner is a wreck fest and vendettas seem to start instantly.

I've been running about 2 seconds back on the opening laps just to let them wreck each other and find clean air.

It also doesn't help that the penalty markers spit you back out in the heaviest of braking zones where all you need to do is inch a nose in the the final corner to cause mayhem.

Why do I always get a better QT when I'm not sober??????
I don't drink, but I do find that my times almost always get better when I run enough laps to stop thinking consciously about what I'm doing.

It's funny you should mention this. Just the other day I found myself repeating something we used to say as kids, without even thinking about it. The person I said it to was shocked, and when I thought about it, I realized it was, indeed, racist. I'm not a racist at all, but it's amazing how words and phrases get embedded in our vocabulary. (I won't share the phrase here, but it's not overtly racist until you start thinking about it from that point of view. Then it totally is.)

And I'm 66 years old. Some things just stick around.

Daily C, I just realized had brake bias as a tuning option. I'd overlooked that. For the 911RSR I biased -1 to the front and set new QT of 1:26.556 which I shared to the showcase (search for GTP, GTP35 or NORMSK for tags).

In the races last night, it was the rears that were wearing first so I assume BB to the front will help. I also think it helps with stability in the mid section. I saved my settings and then realized that prior settings had BB at -3 (not sure if that was in race before) so I need to test more (do laps at -2, -3, -4 and -5) to see how the 911 responds with more front bias. I think it'll do well.

I have no idea how I can be so bad there compared with Gr.3, but I can't find the speed in Gr.4. If anyone has "this one secret trick" for driving gr4, please let me know it! Gr4 weight transfer is more important than in Gr3. Lift a split second before braking, use ABS weak and watch the brake indicator, avoid to have more than a sliver of red., Apex later

Comments like this make me realize how much I don't know. "Lift a split second before braking." I think I normally do this, because to me, braking means taking my foot off the gas first (I think?), even though I drive using two feet. So are you saying that under normal circumstances, I should be braking at the same time I'm lifting off the gas? Or are there times when I should be braking and still keeping on the gas?

My head hurts.

Try lifting, let the car settle then braking.
And yes, there's times where you shouldn't let completely off the gas while braking. Like coming down the mountain of Bathurst, or when crossing and braking over a curve in an MR

would you describe this as driving gr4 more like a road car? This sounds like my approach with road cars where I'll 'dab' the brakes and carry more momentum. I guess I've approached gr4 as beginner-gr3, but maybe I should think of them more as 'muscular' road cars?

It's exactly like that.

The GR4 is lightly modified road car where as the GR3 is a homologated race designed machine with only the shell being used the rest is all race first spec

ok, I did not even think about that. I mean I have no idea what skin colour he had and it plays no role for me. In German it is indeed not that bad of an insult, maybe comparable to donkey in English? How rude is it to call someone a donkey?

Hitting an opponent on a straight in the last lap when he is next to you and about to overtake you for P11 full force and trying to push him into the barrier twice is for me primitive behaviour. Hence I called him „Affe“.

It's a highly derogatory term, whilst donkey isn't nice either that just means you are an ass/lazy monkey has a much more racially rooted connotation.

You get those drivers mate the amount of clips I have of the petulant racer who is so desperate bud rubbish they resort to that type of racing fills my hard drive.

Let them have the place. It's not worth the hassle/stress or ban. Trust me.

That is probably why I suck at Gr.4 and have gone off racing them as I try to drive them like Gr.3 cars.

I need to relearn road cars...
same here. Intellectually, I've known Gr4 to be enahnced road cars, but somewhere along the line, I started driving them as if they were Gr3.. Now to put this into practice....
