Race C pro tip: pit not for tire wear but for clean air and to get out of squabbles.

Tire wear time loss is like .5 over the course of their life so it’s not really a factor. I found I was gaining tonnes of time and therefore position pitting early and running consistent times in clean air while others battled.

My unsolicited advice would be to read the race map for the field speed between first and last, and pit around 3-4 in anticipation of others pitting around the 3 laps after.

Hopefully that’ll ensure a clean path, as the trade off for this strategy is coming up against some B rated bozo in last that’ll race you like their life depends on it.

I know you know this, but if you want to be SR S just move out of the way and finish races, don't try hard and take the small hit on DR to gain SR.

That is all it takes, just for a few races hang back and bring it home with no contact and you'll be S in 3/4/5 races bud.

And then when you are SR S you can earn back the DR in slightly less aggressive/accident prone lobbies
I don't do a ton of races but when I do I usually qualify pretty decently for my rank (mid C) and this strategy really keeps the lobbies more clean. I've even been thrown in with B and A level and been fairly competitive until I spun it pushed too hard or braked early or (insert mistake here). I know it's always a scramble to keep your rank up and gaining but for me it seems much better just to race clean. I've been S ranked in SR since very early on. Maybe I'm too soft and not really racing hard enough, but it works for me. I also just don't have the time to invest. Wish I did!

I would like a little insight into my experience of Race C today...

Jumped on with the Lexus (randomly, and I'm assuming it's a slow car because that's my favourite explanation for the result). I didn't have time for a quali, so proceeded to prop up the race for the whole 12 laps.

I'm terrible on tyres, so I was driving quite cautiously to preserve them, but it totally killed my chances of gaining anything from the race.

My lap times were very very consistent between 1.27.9 and 1.28.3 but I was totally uncompetitive and it boils down to my same thoughts that I can't modify my driving style to account for tyre wear without killing my pace.

Again, please tell me the Lexus is useless!

Indeed!

I remember my first GT Sport race: straight to Race C with Gr2 at Fuji - expecting a podium - I got lapped by half the pack😂
No lie, first thing I did after my MASSIVE first-run-failure was search the internet for what cheats everyone HAD to be using. Simply no way I was THAT bad. Denial ain't pretty. Took a bit to piece together the confidence that was utterly shattered that day.

Best thing that could've happened to me in there, to be honest.😁

Did a couple of B race, agree with the need for a couple more laps...it would have been a funny race, this is really a sprint race.

During the third race I had the same issue as yesterday and got kicked....obviously DR destroyed, again.

Race B needs an extra lap.
What is it currently? ONly four? I just tried my first GT7 daily B on the Dragon Trail seaside, one I have established good "muscle memory." Time was running out and I didn't read the small print (or enough of the big stuff). It was D.T. Seaside II, and I was lost! As you know, it is a Reverse, and I laugh now at me trying to think backward, like shaving in a mirror. I embarrassed myself and didn't like the fact it was only 4 laps. A serious race on that track should A) be triple the amount of laps and B) requiring a pitstop. I don't like 4 lap races at all, no matter how good I am with a track. It invites too much bumper car crap, and those who depend on strategy can't exercise it well.

Welcome to the madhouse, lol!

Yeah, could stand another lap for a B race and would be a great candidate for C at 12 or so laps. Love this course and the Gr.4's work really well on this layout, IMO. Was chuckin' the ScoobieDoobieSubaRoobie around there for a bit earlier and this race is NOT for the adrenaline averse. This is an all-out, seven-minute 'hold-my-beer' event.😁

Speaking of which, I should probably stop while I'm ahead. I ran three races earlier and started P6/4/4 (1:40.234 in low-A lobbies), finished P3/2/2. Pretty sure I just used up a good portion of my luck for the week. I will say, the WRX is absolutely lethal through the first chicane...little more practice and I should be able to wiggle the whole way through there in third. It's just tricky mounting that last sausage right. 🤣

Good luck, good racin' and hope to see y'all out there!

Ah, gr3 and gr4 again. Lol. Lmao.

See you next week.
I've no issues with Gr.3, in my opinion one of greatest racing categories we have in GT7. Accessible enough that pretty much everyone can drive them and still quick enough that it doesn't get drab and boring and as well as artificially close like something very slow would be.

That said, Gr.4 features waaaaaaay (!!!) too often. I'll definitely co-sign that that is an incredibly overrated category and needs to be seriously cut back.

I know you are requesting more road cars but Gr.2 and Gr.1 are other categories in need of a lot more love. PD also have the possibility to do selection limitations within groups so we could easily have stuff like only older generation Super GT, only RS5 DTM, only modern LMPs, etc, etc. There's also no need to be so careful and almost keep certain classes exclusive to race C either.

I'll be doing Race C this week as the other two don't interest me. I haven't turned many laps at Deep Forest and I'm having a heck of a time getting through that "middle section" where you set up to enter the double tunnels. I'll get there, but it was a pain smacking the wall most of the beginning of my practice session.

I started in the 911 RSR and set a time of 1:27.5XX or so. I then tried the McLaren, R.S 01, and the Ford GT Concept LM Spec II but not for too many laps just for a feel of what they could do. I then tried the Ford GT Race Car '18 as it was decent at Interlagos in one of the GTWS races and set a fast lap so far of 1:26.9XX. Now, I don't know if it's the car, or that I got more familiar with the track but I was surprised with my result. I'll try the 911 again tomorrow and see if I can get a better time, but I might actually race the GT Race Car to be different.

Altenza is fun in B race. Also tried wrx and 155 and I was just a bit faster at this point in the Atenza with a high 1:39.
Q time netted me spot 11 and then 13 on the starting grid in my two races. Good fast paced clean racing but never really got to advance so pretty much finished where I started in both.

I’ll probably be trying more cars tomorrow to see if I can find a better start position but worst case I can treat my qualifying position as starting at the back by tomorrow evening 😂 and practice back of the pack survival as the week continues 🍻

I had three fun races with C tonight. My goal was to get SR back to S (from B) and completed that in 2 races and reinforced with the third. I managed to set a reasonable QT for my level with the 911RSR at 1:26.677. I tried 4C, Supra, Ford GT and GT LM, RS01, R8 LMS Evo, BRZ and Peugeot VGT. The 911 was the most stable/consistent for me through the infield. The Supra was a close second but felt it was too dangerous for a race. I loved the 4C driving but couldn't find the same pace as the 911.

Race 1.

As described above, I started Q5 and on turn 4 I lose it in braking and spin into the wall. I restart after the pack has gone by and follow round at the back. I crash two more times at the same spot (I'm rusty with the track) and pit lap 6 and amazingly come in P13. Get CRB. SR jumps to A.

Race 2.

I start Q5 again and first lap I get passed by P6 in the infield and it gets bumpy and in my attempt to preserve SR I lose too much speed and the pack descends on me. To get out the pack I head straight to pit, lap 1, and run clean from there. I end up finishing 10th. Get CRB and SR jumps back to S. This is what I wanted.

Race 3.

The lobby is still mostly SR A, some SR B and a handful of SR S. My S rating must've still been near the cusp of S/A.

Started Q4 and P3 crashed out turn 4 (just as I had been doing in my first race - you got to watch that corner - it's evil! :D) so I am up to P3. I chase the leaders but they're quicker than me but I am maintaining a 1.5 second gap to P4 so I am comfortable. Then lap 3, turn 14 at the hairpin, P1 and P2 crash and I take the lead. For the next 6 laps I run in P1 not wanting to pit for fear of getting in traffic on reentry. I watch the pit stops of others trying to gauge if they had pitted or not. On lap 9 I almost lost it in the twisty mid section so lap 9 I decide it's time to pit with my rears about 65-70% worn. I come out in P5 just behind the driver who was P1 when he crashed out earlier. He either made up huge time (his QT was very fast) or he had not pitted. I was hoping of the later..

Lap 11 and P3 finally comes in to pit which put me up to P4. I'm now trying to figure out if P1-P3 still need to pit. I just don't know. I'm also hoping that perhaps they forgot and will get a 1 minute penalty. End of lap 12 and I come in P4, but wait! P1 and P2 had not pitted and got the penalty and P3 and I jump up. I finish P2!

I miss out on first by just 2 seconds. I think I lost it in the pits. If I had not changed tires and just ran through the pit, I may have saved enough time to have won. Not sure on that though. It would have been close. I could have pushed harder while in the lead but I did not feel threatened so did not want to risk an off. A frilling end to a great race and great strategy by the winner considering I was in the lead for 6 laps!

Though I did not win, a third CRB cements my SR S again and this was one of those races you remember. Great start to the week!

Oh no I don't disagree with this at all. Variety is variety, if thats more econobox races or more Super GT races - I'm happy all the same. I love Gr.2, its probably my favourite group in the game.

I do actually quite enjoy racing GT3 cars but I'm absolutely fed up of them at this point to the extent where I've no interest left in racing them.

For me, ASM on is faster in race A. The car is stable as is so I don't know what stability management does but after about 300 miles of testing, there is almost a tenth of a second difference versus it off.

DR B racers just wanted to know that sort of times you aim for in the daily race qualifiers, 3% of top or better? , top 1000 ?
I'm still DR C, I'm in the range of 3.4% - 3.7% still got a ways to go to be under 3%.

At the start of the week I aim for <1500 and depending on the combo <1000 and if I don't work much on it by the end of the week I end up >1500 - 2500 but it varies as I am awful on some combos especially GR2/GR1 stuff

I'm rubbish with percentages so for most tracks I always aim to be 3 seconds off the top quali time, that normally lends me to the mid pack for the races.

Actually, I don't worry too much about position. OK, that's a lie, my ego demands that I look at it. But mostly I ignore it.

I base my target mostly on where I'm getting placed in the actual races. If I'm near the top of the DR B racers, that's about right for me. Also, I pay attention to my friends list (most of whom are from this forum). I generally know who I should be about even with.

Yesterday I was 1060th or something, now 2300th. Gotta improve that 1:40.2xx with the 458. I always start at the bottom... very rarely finish the race above 8th. My DR A is bleeding out.

Any suggestions for the brake balance?

EDIT: 1:39.739 and 1.292th
Why do I always get a better QT when I'm not sober??????

TBH, I run as fast as I can and hope for the best, lol.

Thanks to dwindling numbers in the waning days of GTSport, I was within 1.5 sec of the top times. Here, not so much. I'm in the "if I'm within 3/3.5 of the top times, I'm good" crowd. Spa wasn't so great as I was starting back in P10 - 14 but it made for some of the best racing I had there. Point being, if I focus too much on hitting specific times, I miss out on racing, so I just go do that.😁

At the end of the day, though, until I'm setting the time everyone else is shooting for, I've still got work to do. To me, racing is one of those things where, if you're not a forever student, you're forever behind.

Enjoy the moment, don't fret the result!

The pace in Race C lobbies in Asia is insane. I feel like my 1:25.6xx in the RSR is a pretty good qualy time but I’m regularly starting 10-12. In race kit, I’m struggling to hold position even though I’m turning consistent times in the high 25s/low 26s lap after lap.

It’s a great challenge but boy oh boy it’s intense.

I would not say I am getting fed up with them yet as Gr.3 is a favorite and I love Gr.2 as well but I hear what you are saying. I would like other ranked races that feature more touring car like action, like BTCC in the 90s or WTCC. Also more stock cars with tuning options limited by weight and PP or HP. That would be fun. When we had the ranked tuning race at Suzuka many months back I absolutely loved that!

I usually compare myself against my Friend list. They're mostly super fast folks from here that are A or A+ (I need some more Bs in my list). If I within a second or two (if a longer track) then I usually consider that good enough for a race.

I never look at myself against global times as they are just out of reach for me. When I do check it varies so much. Currently I am in the 5000s but others have been in the 1,000s to 10,000s...

Ultimately it comes down to never know until I jump into my first race. Recently I have been surprising myself with many top 6 starting positions so I guess I am QTing better these days, though I will say that usually my QT is set on Monday and no matter what I do after that, rarely do I improve upon it in the week. I think that is because Monday I am trying out what works for me and then I get set in my ways. There might be a faster line I have not tried but after a few races, I don't generally change it up anymore..

I sent you a request and the more the merrier. I may be a more attainable QT time to chase compared to some folks here.

I used to be C back in February. You'll find a race that just clicks with you and before you know it you'll be in the B ranks. You'll probably find that your DR will change in spurts. Sometimes it will surge with a race you just gel with and other times it'll fall back. The main thing is not to be discourage and don't let the ranting here on bad drivers upset up. Particularly in the lower ranks there is a lot of inexperience leading to some "interesting" races but there is lots of fun to be had as well.

I agree with everything but this. I do agree we should have strict penalties again but I think the only way to make the rooms clean again is both players get penalised on all contacts. The dirty driver then tumbles dow because he has many contacts while the clean driver has few. And it prevents gaming the penalty system as has been the norm before when we had strict pens.

And yes, it shouldn't happen that SR S ends up with SR B, but it's obvious the game was built for a larger selection of matchmaking.
Lobbies like that are nearly non-existant in EU where there's so many more racing
The did it that way in GTS and in about a week, everything changed for the better. Like what happens in real life, you couldn't use your car as a weapon.

People called for damage. I was an opponent to that. We have damage, and as you can all see, it does NOTHING except unfairly punish the victim.

For those who think this is not the way, it absolutely is the way. No one IRL has success by slamming there cars into other. It can be done in GT because the damage is so unrealistic. If contact were a race ending situation, like real life, then it would stop happening.

My experience on Race C just then, I think that may become my race for the week. Started 12th in an RSR, pitted end of lap 4, tyres and fuel, made hay and got 6th by the end. Not bad.

Edit: now with video evidence:

Is that the strategy? Is one stop the way to go? Is there any other strategy that works?
