This week has been a bit up and down, and then back up again for me. After my very enjoyable start to Monday (getting a good qauli time in and bumping myself up to DR A) the driving standards seemed to take a dive for the next couple of days.

Divebombs, punts and someone pushing me into the end of a barrier on the downhill back straight. Got into a side by side race with @Tidgney down that straight, (nice to see you on the track!) was preparing to attempt (and probably fail at) an up and under at the end when he got used as a brake marker by someone behind. Just a mess all around.

Then the last couple of days has been completely different. Clean, tight, respectful racing with room given, people waiting for others to recover after a bump, just entirely different. And much more fun because of it too.

Fingers crossed for next week! 😁

Friday afternoon I ran a couple races (literally, two) and managed to decimate my SR. Went from S to hanging onto A by a thread.
Yeah, it's been a strange SR week at Sardegna for me too. Check out my SR progression:

I've gotten more CRBs this week than probably ever, in one week. Yet my SR is still in the A's. And I've never had a week with so many SR changes - at least, not in recent memory.

Very strange indeed.

Hi all, I am feeling pretty bummed out. I have returned to GT7 after a break and I am struggling. I am trying to do Race B in the Genesis X GR3 - the thing is oversteering like crazy, this was never a problem before my break. Have they changed the physics engine or is that car very oversteery?

I am feeling down because people are ramming me to **** and my DR has dropped to C for the first time. Any tips for Race B or the Genesis X?

It's very very oversteer sensitive.

It's worth doing or going back to the WG circuit experience as it uses the Genesis for it and helps you practice the smooth throttle on. Especially at the uphill section of the boot.

The only tips I have for it are to be super smooth applying the throttle - feed it on in a slow and continuous pace.

Wait (coast if needed) until the car is near enough straight.

Sardegna has quite a few tricky bumps this direction right at the exit zones (makes braking trickier the normal direction) so factor than in when you want to accelerate.

Well, after teetering on the edge of it for two weeks, I managed to make A+ for the first time on my US account  after a few great races with some very clean guys - I must admit I lucked in to a few wins after mistakes from some up ahead too.

My UK account is up to around A and a half, after sticking with Race C this week. I doubt I'll ever make A+ unless we have Gr2 or SF cars every week, as I generally refuse to race the meta - which makes Gr4 a no-go for increasing DR just now:confused:

Every race, I am hit into last place, I'm not exaggerating. I feel like selling my entire rig right now. What's the point.
I've had the same experience.

I avoid the guys infront in P1/P2 start P3 and get absolutely murdered on the 2 hairpins.

Pretty gutted as I'm quitting or rage pitting races and just wasting my time.

Not enjoyed this week at all.

The trick of B this week is letting people through, knowing they will likely immolate around the next corner, often taking a car or two with them. Often its nothing more than a race of attrition. Have to admit survival has become its own reward this week.

Ps: side view mirrors are invaluable for dodging folks attempting the high speed enema..

Pps: have to say this…7 min races, at this wonderful track, is both a waste..and a set up.

I’d really love to hear the rational from the person at PD as to why they think this format gets the thumbs up for a week.

I get spells of that too occasionally. If you're doing B, Gr3 on hards and a tricky track - and also on the edge of B and C driver ratings it's probably a perfect storm for disappointment. I've given Race B a miss this week as I just felt it was going to be a disaster for me (I like the track the other way, but prefer Gr3 with grippier tyres).

Have you tried C? Pit early and get clear air and gain places while half the field quits or crashes - soon get your DR back up and maybe make B more enjoyable.

Mind you, new races tomorrow - and hopefully you'll have a better time:)

Thank you (and others in the thread) for your kind words. My issue is I am stuck in C C now, I am a clean driver but I have had a lot of bad luck and the penalty system has been insane towards me too, I feel like I am in hell racing with these people.

I will give next week a chance, put some time and hopefully do better. Over the last 24 hours I have been hit into last about 8 times, and it has really got me down this evening.

Race B is a fun track but a nightmare for online play, the hairpins are meat grinders, it doesn't matter how early you brake or if you try and avoid.

I haven't tried C - too late for that now I think!

Why are you C/C?

You probably aren't qualifying well. So maybe some time there learning the track would really help.

SR C I can kinda get, I had a lot banked and just quit races being 15s behind on lap one is no fun when I'd just 20 low 1:42s so I dropped the B but it's fairly easy to stay in B or improve to A and S by just finishing and not hitting people.

What will help you a lot is stop trying to race everyone and just focus on smooth laps that hold your position. Or concede a position or two.

If you aren't first or 4th then fighting for positions is fairly irrelevant. Consistency massively is.

I've only managed about 5 Race Cs this week, another week where I've decided to stick with just the one event. Don't know what exactly life has thrown at me which has kept me away (I think the SF demands such a level of concentration that my usual/casual race slots were off the cards).

The general theme was that I've cursed myself... 3 races getting a pit entry penalty (the smallest possible infraction on the left front), and a second-stint spin at the hairpin in one other race leaving me frustrated as my pace isn't generally bad.

I can deal with the hit-and-run merchants, as I think this race allows for such a pronounced recovery that you can still get positions back quickly enough. But when you ruin your own race, it just hurts. And you have the remaining laps to think about what you've done!

I can understand the lack of appetite for this race. It's chaotic and rarely intriguing. The car feels tremendous to drive around the track, but it was just too draining for me.

Quite happy with the preview for next week, as I'm away on holiday and none of the predicted tracks are up there with my faves, so for those that enjoy them... Have fun!

Dear diary,

I was certain that I would end this week in a bitter mood, having only experienced crappy racing from being punted all the time. And the one time I was doing well, my car decided to forget how to turn into a corner and the 8 positions I gained throughout the race went to the toilet.

HOWEVER, being an addict to disappointment, on Sunday night, I felt like a dose of punishment would cap an excellent week! So, I logged in and wouldn't you know it, I set a 1:42:1 at Sardegna during my only warm up lap before the race! I went 3 tenths faster than anything I managed all week and my reward.... Starting in P15 and being the only one in the entire lobby not to have a + in front of their A rated-DR score!

I still have no clue what happened - the only punts I received were minor, my mistakes were rare and small and somehow, I finished in P8 and also had a clean race bonus to boot!

This world is complicated and I do not understand it. But I end the week smiling none the less!

Yours truly,

Me

where do you find the stats of your online racing
It's from a program I wrote, called GranTracker.

Here's the website: https://www.grantracker.com/

Here's the "official" thread here at GTPlanet: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/official-grantracker-thread.420003/

Some people on this forum use it, although I have no idea how many.

EDIT:

Since we're not supposed to double-post, I'll include this here:

It's been a strange week at Sardegna for me, but I honestly had a blast, and anyone who skipped this track really missed out. And it didn't hurt that I got to use one of my favorite cars, the R.S.01.

SR was a real roller-coaster, but I managed to end the week at SR S, and I kept (barely) my DR A.

Sardegna in reverse seems very polarizing this week...I had a great week here. Was able to post a bunch of podiums and a couple wins. Of course, there's also the obligatory P8 - 12 finishes here and there to keep my ego in check.🤣

Once I bounced back from my initial SR meltdown Friday I've been able to maintain my S, which was all I was hoping for. The racing is way too tight for for any kind of mishap tolerance. When stuff goes sideways, it goes big-n-smoky and ERRRRRYBODY'S gettin' a ticket. Been rough in that regard, that's for sure.

Most memorable race/pass was this one. We came in to T2/L1 and I was able to hold a bit of overlap as we went through the hairpin. Then it was a drag race to T3. Got him 'round the outside (again!) through T3 and then memory-holed the field from T4 on. Just nice when a race comes together:

If you're wondering why I didn't center us (P1/2) in frame, this'll be perfect for my work laptop. These pics make great ice-breakers when used as backgrounds for Teams calls. I just keep my head in the open space.😁

Well, this week's Race C is by far the most successful Daily Race I've ever done in either GTS or GT7. Out of several dozen races, there were only 5 or 6 I didn't win, and I still finished 2nd in those. Never even had to stand on the bottom step of the podium. :gtpflag:

Now time to go back into hibernation while they recycle Gr.3/4 at Catalunya and Maggiore GP every week for the rest of the year...

By sunday I am usually done with dailies, but today I popped in this afternoon to find @GrumpyOldMan on the grid next to me! I though I had a P5 in the bag, but two drivers came out of nowhere and I didn't go defensive enough. Grumpy - couldn't you have been a good team player and bottled those guys up for me?! (Kidding!, always good to see a you guys out there). (I did the daily to procrastinate running the tokyo TT again - I got bumped out of gold this weekend, at 3.00% in fact. grrrrr.)

I hadn’t touched Tokyo until this afternoon and it took forever to get silver and gold ain’t happening 😂
Congrats on the short lived gold.

Hopefully the dailies next week work better for me than this combo which was too much with everything else GT7 I needed to do 😁
Been a while again since I’ve gotten to race with a gtp member so maybe that’ll change

thanks alot man that is pretty cool apprecciate it

Could've had a more rare and exciting track choice but 650S sounds nice. Looking forward to trying it.
I was hoping for Gr.3's at Maggiore this week as there's two things I don't like driving:
  • FF platforms
  • Mazda3, specifically
I can't imagine there's enough cornering speed to be found through adjustments in any other car to counter the top-end of the Mazda. Damn. Guess it's time to get over my disdain for Fuji until new weekly stuff drops.

Maggiore is quite twisty so I'm thinking other cars will stand a chance. The Silvia was top of the board when I did some laps this morning.
