I was hoping for Gr.3's at Maggiore this week as there's two things I don't like driving:
  • FF platforms
  • Mazda3, specifically
I can't imagine there's enough cornering speed to be found through adjustments in any other car to counter the top-end of the Mazda. Damn. Guess it's time to get over my disdain for Fuji until new weekly stuff drops.
It’s not a Mazda fest, I faired better in a gtr and a atenza and a Ferrari hooray

Did I mention that I like Lago Maggiore? It's been very friendly to me today. I have yet to pick up the elusive win, but lots of podiums have helped me along to the highest DR I've attained.

That unfortunate -800 in the one race was due to a wheel disconnect issue on lap 1, ruining a race entirely.

By sunday I am usually done with dailies, but today I popped in this afternoon to find @GrumpyOldMan on the grid next to me! I though I had a P5 in the bag, but two drivers came out of nowhere and I didn't go defensive enough. Grumpy - couldn't you have been a good team player and bottled those guys up for me?!
It was good to see you too. I don't remember much from that race, although I do remember trying not to rear-end you at one point. :D

I rarely jump in a daily race these days as I'm mid C (my pace is usually mid B but I'm a meek driver as I value NOT screwing anyone else up in race) but I did last night after a session time trialing. Was really feeling it and set a low 1:08.xx for race B. Started pole and had good pace through the first 2 sections. Went a little wide on the uphill right and things got tight with number 2 and 3. Was doing well holding and my nerves got to me and my pace slowed a teeny bit. Man. Punt city. No one plays nice. Spun me out hard enough to go to last place. I'm gonna try again here soon but holy it's Western out there. All S rated drivers too. I def bumped one of them on exit of a corner but it was just a racing incident and I think that caused him to see red. He lost zero time and actually gained on me. I ended with a clean race bonus for last place. 😂😂

Maggi' is fun, plain and simple. That said, I've thrown everything but the kitchen sink at it and it still feels slow. Maybe it's the transition. We went from the confines and angry walls of Sardegna at eye-watering speeds to the wide-open countryside and, well, NOT eye-watering speeds. Still gotta smile when you blow through Banky, though. Feels like an homage to slot car tracks of yesteryear and I love it!

Have to take the 650S and the Bugatti out. Bug' kinda surprised me but someone on my list has it in the 5's so gots to at least try it. Was my go-to for Monza in 'Sport.

Still avoiding Fuji, though. We'll see if I can muster that courage later today.🤣

Two races on Race B last week dumped me from SR S to SR A. Anytime there are walls and morons, a game of billiards will kick off.

I was worried about racing with the SR A mosh pit, but I was able to dig myself out of it by yesterday by starting from the back and assuming that everyone would dive bomb and blow every turn. Most people did.

I really need to slow down and observe when I'm in an SR S room or room of clustered SR values. They seem to always throw a mixed race every few online races and trying to race aggressively with your elbows out in those sessions never pans out.

That was the most fun I have had in a while in the dailies! Not to rub it in lol! But there should be more races with the formula car!
I got back into racing games with the PSVR2 and GT7 (last one was GT2 on PS2, lmao) and also got more seriously into F1 right before the Monza race this year. My two favorite tracks since that race are Suzuka and Interlagos and was pumped to have one as a daily C. I'm pretty sure the first SF race at Fuji was a race A, and was a really short sprint so this was way cooler.

Formula racing is a whole other driving style and I love it. The esses at suzuka feel like youre playing a rhythm game like beat saber or guitar hero.

Don't know yet how people have got Maggi into the 2:03s, I'm currently sitting on 2:08.
Watch the replays of the top drivers and you'll understand. Memorize what they do. With the 650S it's pretty clear (week after week) that it's always about changing gear in the middle of the rev limiter and most of the time exiting corners engaging the higher gear because of the boost.
I just went from 2:07.018 to 2:06.381 doing exactly what a top driver did.
I also changed brake balance from +2 to +3.
I'm drunk right now, so I'm not sure if I could get a better QT when sober. We'll see.

Oh and of course....suspensions tuning is enabled. I didn't touch any of it, for now.

Had what I classify as a "weird 1st race" this week at Lago... Started P13 with a 2:06:8 which is miles behind the top times! Race itself was eventful, close racing, at times a bit unfair (push to pass) and also some dumb decisions, like trying to shut off a corner as I am right there next to the dude (he ended up spinning).

Positions throughout race were P13 - P11 - P15 and finished P10... All this in just 4 racing laps lol.

I did try the Silvia now before taking a break, but only down to a 2:06:7 which is still well over 3 seconds slower than the global leader.... Anyone tried Fuji yet? Any general feel/ advice about the race setup?

I think I've gotten the best time I'll get this week in qualifying for Race B, I've managed to get it down to 2:05.5. Should be good enough for top 5 starts in DR A for the rest of the week, I hope.

@TheNormsk your name is missing from my leaderboard!
I know. I feel I have really missed out this last week.

I liked Sardegna Road A Reverse last week though never raced on it. Then again, from some of the comment on here perhaps that was a good thing as I still love it and was not frustrated by shoddy competition. Also I never got on Suzuka. Suzuka with the SF23 would have been a riot. I like both combinations.

I'll jump on tonight hopefully, but I'm still catching up with work and home projects so time is limited. 🏎️🏎️

EDIT: I did a few laps of a fully race tuned, wide body, '71 DeTomasso Pantara (one of my all time favorite cars), around Sardegna A Rev and in cockpit with 700hp and 70's suspension it was both glorious and scary at the same time! PD needs to do a tuner race with these on a road course. It would be fantastic!

The Pantara is in the UCD if anyone wants one. I have 24 in my collection! Did I say I like them?

I came here to cop to a truth, and one that has eluded me for quite some time...Fuji doesn't suck. 🤣

I took the 911 out a little while ago and got it into the 39's (currently at 1:39.4xx). Tuning may help but isn't necessary, I don't think. I ran a couple laps stock but then I had to go poke at stuff because that's how my brain works. Starting with the same set-up I was using for Spa and have been fine-tuning from there. For me, tuning has made the car much more drivable out of the tight stuff. Still very much a 'season to taste' thing versus 'one size fits all.'

Haven't raced there yet but will be. I was NOT a fan of this course. After a handful of laps, though, the place is really starting to grow on me. Turns out, tracks are more enjoyable when you know what the hell you're doing on them. Who knew??? 😁

Thanks for the insight, tempted to turn on the console as soon as we finish watching the movie :)

Thank you! I just dropped from 2:07.478 to 2:06.721, and to be honest, it was only about the 3rd time I actually completed the track (I kept losing it on the back couple of turns, until I understood the car better).
I also changed brake balance from +2 to +3.
I haven't even messed with this, but I'll try it next.

Struggling with B this week, the car feels really clunky on the hards with such a twisty and curvy course - feels like I'm proper fighting the car to get it to turn in.
I've somehow got a decent quali time but my race pace is pretty dire, feel much slower than I should be because I just cannot get the car to turn in. Gonna fart around with a tune tomorrow, and see if it helps.

Minor tangent, but I don't like the big inclusion of tuning across the board - I think it's fine in one race, or both if the options are limited, but having multiple options in both races defeats the casual accessibility than GT has been known for pretty much forever. One or two options is fine, because it's going to be at most a couple tenths on the board, but the more options you have to play with, the bigger the time gain is - and the more vital it becomes for you to search out a tune that works for you so you can stay competitive.
I have the technical knowledge on how to tune, so it's not a big deal to me - but I know that's not the case for everyone, not everyone will have that time or desire, and if they don't, GT is suddenly becoming a whole lot less appealing to them.
GT has always been pick up and play for casual and competitive players alike, and I think it's unfair if casual online sport mode players have had this dropped on them pretty suddenly.

I'm not sure where I land on this, tbh. Maybe I'm an aberration, but I really enjoy having the options available to me AND don't know 💩 technically.🤣 That notwithstanding, you do make a fair point.

Challenge here being the framing. Is this being forced on the community or is the community simply getting something it has been asking for, and as a majority? Genuine ask as I've no clue what the answer is. Also, does it truly make you non-competitive to leave stuff alone and race as-is? Again, not sure if that's been vetted here already or not.

One other thing GT has been known for over the years, though, is the ability to tune/customize your cars. I've learned what to do and what NOT to do to cars through the settings pages over the years, lol. It builds an intimacy into the whole prospect...you built that and dialed it in. So, I definitely get the motivation for these options to be there. With the limited options they've given us I think they've done a good job of striking a balance. Throw transmission tuning in and the equation is out the window, for instance.

For the longevity of the game, and if proven to drive racers away, then it's a bad thing. But, and if it's what the majority wants...I vote:

Speaking of which, here's what I'm running on the 911. Maybe we can crowd-source a decent set-up 🤣:

Bars (F/R): 7/9 | Shocks Front: 26/36 | Shocks Rear: 37/47 | Freq (F/R): 3.75/3.90

I failed to improve time trials and bought another Super Silhouette. That is probably the last duplicate car I will be buying from any of the dealerships. Having bought everything else possible, credits are now meaningless to me. Feels like game complete for me.

I used these 911 settings and did roughly the same time as you. I also have done lots of stock sus laps and been in the same ballpark 😉

Ultimately the biggest gains might be a setting that minimizes tire wear but doesn’t hurt handling.

The only thing I find more frustrating than being punted during a daily race is being disconnected before the race even starts and losing a lot of DR points without any chance to keep them. Ugh.
I mean, if you're gonna lose DR, you might as well be driving while doing it. HATE that and am completely flummoxed by it continuing to be a problem, but here we are.

Much empathy...
