GT7 & PSVR2

I’m all about the most realistic GT racing experience as could be expected. The VR2, wheel and pedals get me there. It took several 2 & 3 hour custom races to get used to the headset (almost like a helmet), the car physics/race craft in 3D, car telemetry/gages in cockpit, and using my windows and mirrors.

I love endurance races and so far, this is a blast. Zero problems, no sickness or crashes. I break often when I pit. I set refuel rate to 1 liter per sec. Gives me plenty of time to step away. I can stream podcasts in the cars via Spotify integration which is nice for practicing.

Having said that, I feel like my driving has greatly improved across the board. My inputs are very different. Instinct takes over in 3D. Rarely will I spin out or break traction now. The sound is tuned to a real cockpit perspective. It’s like living the races I watch on TV. VR2 is absolutely worth it and unless I'm tuning, I never bother with 2D. It almost feels like an arcade game in 2D.
It took me about 8 hrs before I was able to find the sweetspot with the headset. Now it's comfortable and the view is great. I haven't gone back to pancake mode since donning VR2 for the first time.
I literally smile while I’m driving. PD put in some serious work to capture that realness of the AI cars attitudes over bumpy surfaces. How the cars bound over curbs(kerbs). The way cars fly off track and make contact with other cars. I mainly do Group A recreations and that hard suspension look, seen in the real life videos, are captured as I look left and right at the other cars. As much of the VR replay I watch, it’s replicated so well. Truly unbelievable how real PD make it look, to my eyes.
Lol. I grin like an idiot and shake my head in disbelief at this amazing technology. I like to look around the interior of the car and out the back window when a race is done. We are in the car at the track, about as close to irl as it gets. Simply amazing!

This is exactly what I'm like, all the time, I love it (would love hud options aswell though)

I think I’m going to order a wheel soon. So Fanatec DD Pro is the way to go?
That's what I've got, no complaints here 👍

It’s a great wheel BUT the shaft collar came loose on mine, which is (or was) a known issue that can be fixed by tightening it up (a lot). I also had a stack of random disconnections that, after a lot of experimentation (I’m an ex-avionics technician), turned out to be fixed by the supply of a replacement USB cable (requested by me after Fanatec offered to collect the wheel for repair). It’s all good now, and worth the hassle because the wheel gives such good feedback.

The config settings are a cause of problems for some people, turning a good wheel into a naff one. If you read the Fanatec forum you’ll find a thread that Fanatec made about two years ago, detailing their recommended config settings if you play GT7. You’ll then find hundreds of posts by people who explain that the telemetry data has changed many times since then, and they offer their own config suggestions. It all gets very confusing and I got the impression that most of the people posting don’t known what they don’t know about setting up racing wheels. In the end, I went with the original Fanatec recommended settings except for NFR which I set to 5 to reduce wobble (which Fanatec suggests as a tweak anyway), and I find that the feedback I get is overall superb for most cars on most circuits.

There are a couple of tight hairpins where the feeling goes very light on full lock when in lemans-type cars (not 'clipping' I don’t think), and some cars give a feeling down the straights like something is very loose within the steering mechanism (I have read many times that this is a quirk of the GT7 telemetry data), but overall I am very happy with my DD Pro and McLarren GT3 v2 wheel, if that helps.

Edit: I have the 8Nm version, by the way.

I never had any issues with the shaft, other than getting the shaft from the 'Sony tax', having said that, I also got the Formula V2.5 (XBOX alcantara one) which allows me to play on my XBOX, which I haven't done so far yet, but new Forza is coming soon, so there's that.

Then there's the fabled QR-2 coming at some point if anyone fancies ponying up for that, (no pun intended ) which will require buying the new shaft to go along with it. Often I remember the saying, 'a fool and his money are easily parted :dunce:🤣

The McLaren GT3 wheel has an Xbox chip, so with a GT DD Pro and a McLaren GT3 wheel, you can play on either console. This is probably straying too far off topic now!

I also have the McLaren wheel compatible with Xbox, but will never use it in that capacity unless Xbox gets VR.

Had my first race around Le Mans in my new Playseat Evolution with my G29. I normally lap the field in my F1 '97 but this time I finished 2nd. I'm about 30 seconds slower with the wheel than I am with the pad. That could be down to the immense amount of rain though.

It won’t take long until you are faster.

Progress! Will require an external adapter (not yet developed), but PSVR2 may be working on PC in the not too distant future!

Which is all kind of irrelevant for a GT7 PSVR2 thread.

Yeah it really blew my mind when I first slipped it on back in February. And it still blows my mind every time, 300 hours later lol

Going off what @Dogwolf77 said it’s like putting on a virtual helmet! Got back into league racing and when I tell you there’s nothing I can put in word to describe the sensations I’m getting throughout the race… It’s a super formula season, hour plus races, full damage… the whole 9 yards! To actually feel like I’m in a formula car using my mirrors to navigate through traffic, the loud exhaust sounds screaming in your ear, sparks flying everywhere, and the driving view you get in VR is pure bliss! I feel like I need racing harnesses to keep me still… I’m leaning forward and to the sides crazy lol. VR opened GT7 up crazy for me, to watch the replays now gives me a whole different feeling.. when I watch myself pass somebody in the replay I instantly go back to the VR perspective and it makes the moment so much more realistic. It’s like “yeah I remember that I was there” when you race at different tracks you really appreciate them that much more in VR and I love it. With more improvements we can only go up from here!
When you say "... go back to VR perspective" do you mean 'in your mind/memory' of the VR experience when driving, or is there a feature in replays that allows you to view the replays in VR (with the headset on, obviously!)?

Apologies for dumb question.

There is a VR replay feature available in the replay sub-menu when wearing the headset, but it's not particularly popular because instead of chasing the cars round the circuit, it plonks you, the viewer, at the side of the track as your car goes past, then moves you to the next point and so on. It's a start, but then again imagine chasing the cars like a drone in VR ...motion sickness anyone!

The first time I used the VR replay was for the US truck off-road race. The VR replay stuck me on the side of the track by a tree. A Raptor came flying round the bend and drifted straight at and through me in about one second. In VR ...I nearly pooped myself !

As stated above there is a VR reply feature… I wouldn’t use it while in your racing rig.. but if you give yourself some space it’s kinda cool to see the cars fly by you! I wish they let you pick a location around the track! That would be awesome kinda like a virtual track tour. As you said in your beginning statement I was talking about more of a memory.

I actually hurt my neck a little bit trying to follow the cars in the VR replay while sitting in racing rig! 🤦‍♂️ I won't be doing that again. My neck is jacked up anyways though.

Yea I caught some pain one day also in the rig… So I only watch VR replays when I’m on the couch lol.

Ho all. Does VR2 work with Music Rallyies??

Mime keeps saying, cannot broadcast when I wear VR2, but I am not broadcasting or streaming??

Can you do the music rallies without VR? Do you have broadcast mode activated by any chance?
