My PSVR2 arrived yesterday and the first thing that I did was check my favourite cars on VR showroom.
The experience really cant be described with words, Im really amazed.

According to some recomendations, my second step was try some races with a slow car on a flat track (Monza on a Golf GTI MK1).
After 30 mins or so, I started to feel dizzy and turned off.

The weird thing.
I woke up today with zero dizziness and didnt play again yet
However, when I tried to check some reviews on you tube this morning I started to fell the same dizzines just watching the movement on a flat screen.

Is this normal?
Hope my brain get accustomed to this because that first experience was really a game changer.
That's a VR hangover. Keep your sessions short, take breaks that are as long, or longer than the sessions. Stop VR sessions at first signs of any discomfort, sweating or tummy upset. As your body adapts to the VR inputs you should be able to extend sessions longer and longer.

Congrats on the purchase. There is really not anything like PSVR2. When you first get used to it you will never go back :-)

For me I took many smaller sessions. Just use it only like 10 - 15 minutes a couple of times each day, if your schedule allows for it.

When you drive, try to force that you only look straight ahead, even it is tempting to look around you. Also if you crash the car close your eye's completely and do not open them until you car is holding still. And lastly do not ever drive in reverse with your eye's open.

Then gradually after some days like 5-10 days you will be able to play for hours without noticing any sickness.

Yeah for me I keep my eyes ahead on the road in front of me and can play for hours. But I was getting motion sickness from Horizon Call of the Mountain when I first got my PSVR2. What helped me with that is I would stop moving approximately every 20 minutes and take a 2-minute break where I would focus my gaze on a mountain in the far-off distance. That game was worth the effort. So happy I can play GT7 for hours because I have dealt with motion sickness sensitivity my whole life. VR helped me learn a lot about it and now I know numerous techniques to combat it.

Yesterday was my second session and I planned to do this.
Short sessions with longer breaks until adaptation.

Fortunately, I could pull 01:30 hours straight of gaming without any signs of disconfort!
The only "thing" that happened when I finished the session and made the first steps out of the rig, was the same feeling that i have when I step off the treadmill on the gym.
But only lasted a few seconds and I think its something normal.

Im really, really amazed with this experience

Im regreting this late purchase.
Cant imagine playing on a flat screen again.
However, Im miles away of my pace on very well known tracks for me.

I Just hope to get more confident over the time to start racing on sport mode again but now in VR.
I decided that if I cant maintain my actual A+ level I dont care, I prefer to race in slower lobbies but feeling this "full experience"

Yeah for me I keep my eyes ahead on the road in front of me and can play for hours
I think this was the tip that helped me most. Thanks a lot!
On the first day I was admiring everything I could at my sides, inside the cockpit etc.
Wasnt a good idea for the first try

I'm irrationally happy every time I read about someone taking their first VR steps and loving it.

@Childe Roland don't worry. You're doing great already. It will soon become second nature without any discomfort whatsoever.

----

Random car in VR recommendation (not for newcomers):

Aston Martin Valkyrie

Somehow managed to never drive is in VR before. Try it out - it's great.

It's one of the master s license tests. I think. It's a bit mental on the brakes and insanely mental under acceleration with the p2p engaged.

Already spent some time admiring it from every possible angle on the VR showroom but didnt dare to take it out to track yet!
Thanks for your message!

But... we have to make a petition for keep seat Seat position in Memory by Car.

I'm quite big guy and I have to sit very low and quite forward to reset point of view. And every time is very annoying.

With default setting my point of view is like a child in front the steering wheel. :)

Yeah, it’s the same for all of us. Very annoying.

i wonder if its as simple as reading the distance between the vr head unit to the players hands when setting the boundary area on start up? seems this isnt measured as ive tried arms on my chest vs arms straight out as if im driving with a seat way back. if they could implement this distance to real life as long as we set play boundary area with hands at our steering wheel distance in our cockpit setup, it may be closer to a real life distance.

setting head height must be important to something in the game as it gives this option in menu settings. i need to experiment this height from lower to higher and see if my seat height in game changes any,

It changes. Theres a tutorial somewhere, you can alter your position by resetting it

Just keep doing short session. Was the same for me. Now i can play how i want every psvr2 game feeling perfect.

Also make sure to adjust visibility before every session, (double press PS button, pick the visibility option, I don't do the eye tracking, just the eye distance and helmet position adjustement).
A slight Improper adjustement will make it tiring to play.

So I just got a good deal on a VR2 off FB Marketplace.

I already have hundreds of hours into GT7 on a flat screen with an old G29 wheel, but I feel VR just unlocked a whole new level of comfort and spatial awareness in wheel-to-wheel racing that I find super exciting.

Now I'm looking at my wheel and I'm wondering if I'm missing out on something.

The Fanatec GT DD Pro 8nm base kit is over CA$1500 after shipping to Canada and exchange. :( That's over 3x what I paid for the VR2 hardware.

Can anyone comment on what made a bigger impact to your experience — VR or fancy wheel?

I'm trying to find my own point of diminishing returns.

VR+wheel is the ultimate way to sim race. You already have both. An upgrade to a DD wheel is huge, but for now just enjoy VR and get settled in. You already have everything you need. Plus, you missed some big Fanatec sales last week.

I used to race GT5 with a Logitech wheel and I remember balking at spending over £100 on a wheel, even though I could afford it. I’m fairly generous spending on others, but I’m a tight git when it comes to myself. Earlier this year I had major spine surgery and found myself able to use pedals again, so I finally bit the bullet and spent a few thousand on a new PS5, a PSVR2, a SimLab rig, a DD GT Pro 8Nm wheelbase and pedals, McLaren wheel, GT Omega seat, harness, 3D headphones and proper haptic feedback (I have details if you’re interested).

This was a major purchase for me and I did not make it likely, but I had the funds by way of savings …I just took a long time to justify spending such an amount on myself.

The combined effect of the rig, seat, DD wheel, VR, pedals, harness, 3D sound and haptics is mind-blowing. It is, as someone else on this thread said, like having your own personal Star Trek holo-deck. VR and a basic wheel is better than no VR, just as a DD wheel is better than a belt-driven wheel. Or sitting in a proper rig with a race harness is better than using a wheel stand, and a proper telemetry-fed haptics set-up is better than a simple butt-kicker fed from the audio output. But when you combine the lot and do it properly, as I finally did earlier this year, the result is sublime and life-changing in some ways.

I used to race Rotax Max karts at national level, and that was my passion in life before my spine problems; now I can find a good chunk of that adrenaline and excitement back again without leaving my home. And if I could turn the clock back and face the same buying decision again, would I blow a few thousand of my savings on the whole shebang again? …absolutely, but I wouldn’t feel so hesitantly guilty this time; I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.

So in answer to your question, VR is probably the biggest priority purchase, then a DD wheel, then the rest, but if you are heading towards retirement and/or have the cash, and can afford a proper, complete 'holo-deck' without having to divert funds from more serious purchases like a home or food on the table (as you need to when bringing up a family), go for the whole package; don’t delay; do it properly …you won’t regret it.

And if you simply can’t afford it then worry not, get your priorities in order and use a PSVR2 with a hand-controller using the tilt-steering method. It’s not exactly the ultimate experience but at least it’s better than the kiddie's game that is, by comparison, flat-screen sim racing. I feel blessed to have got the use of my legs back again; I feel doubly blessed to live in a moment in history when I can experience the fun of racing cars (almost) for real in my own home. The 'whole package' represents total immersion and by God it’s friggin' awesome!

I did the same this year. Agree that its very worth buying if you have the extra savings to splurge. You gotta keep in mind that gt7 will probably be the only game youll be using the vr immersion, not sure if any other racing game for ps5 will add the vr option anytime soon

Check it out I compared my best lap times on the Online Time Trial at Watkins Glen with a controller on flat screen, vs wheel on flat screen, vs wheel with PSVR2 back to back.
Kind of interesting results, I wonder if most people are faster with PSVR2 than Flat screen?

Even after using PSVR2 for close to a year I am still shocked about how much sharpness there is to be gained by really dialing it all in.

Yesterday I did something I've never done before: I did NOT rely on the software to set the IPD, but instead I just did it by looking at some text in GT7. The gains in sharpness are noticeable.

When I go back into the IPD tool it tells me I have it wrong lol.

🤣
I think lots of us have been doing that for months. I never use the VR setup tools anymore, I just mess with it till I get it where it seems best to me. The PSVR2 setup tools are like the in-game racing line. Good starting point but that’s all.

To one up my experience with the game i got the shifter last month and now with the vr i am having the hardest time racing using the clutch pedal H-shifting. Mainly due to how easy the wheel sequential is i know understand how difficult racing can be when you constantly keep throwing it into the wrong gears…and the clutch - brake- gas dance is insane to learn

I tried racing sophy in VR and got served trying to race with the clutch h-shifting
i never use the clutch. i tried but its just too much for me to think about. my H shifter will shift without it. sometimes if im bored ill drive a little in lobbies or in a test run and use the clutch for old times sake. irl i drove an old truck with a clutch and after 20yrs of that i hate the clutch. lol. but the shifter lends a great advantage for me with engine braking and a feel of power. stick a real ball shifter on top of the g29 shifter and itll feel more real. the added weight gives it some mass for feeling like your shifting a real car shifter. just dont get carried away and slam the gears as itll not last long.

I don’t think many here are using G29 shifter lol

I drove a stick shift m3 for almost 20 yrs so…been driving stick most my life but my recent audi has sequential shifting and the no clutch is odd at times for me. I bought the fanatec pedals before i had the shifter and was irritated that it was there and not being used. Its quite fun and brings me back to driving my old M3

Nice! Which m3... I have the f80 comp.

My first semi auto tbh. Wanted manual tbh, but most high performance cars are auto/semi auto now... civic type r outlier? I always use tge paddles, probably used full auto for 10 mins over 3 years over ownership. Love the damn car :D

Wouldn't go back to manual now, despite 'engagement' fears.

Dct is perfect for it. Punches through the gears at relentless ferocity, with littke/no discernable delay, loss of momentum. Probably need it now once cars move into silly torque/bhp ranges. Overall experience more than makes up for any lack of engagement fears. Dct perfectly suited to the 3ltr straight 6 twin turbo.

Like I say, it's simply ferocious/relentless:D

The new m m3/4 gxx has the zf box, which by most accounts isn't quite on the sane level as the dct. Many suggesting bmw m elected for it go keep costs down...

What I do is I just go into Time Trial mode (single player) and pick a slower car. Last night I took the W197 out on the 'ring and just enjoyed the drive. (Yes, now my 20 mil collection is complete!)

I've also been driving the '84 GTO so much since it got in the game that I'm close to reflexive with that car. Practice make progress. #SuperRider

I hope this helps you all.

I've been using the G29 shifter this whole time . . . well, since I got one for my G29 back in the early GT Sport days (replaced my old DFP.) I love the blasted thing.

By the way, it mates perfectly with my new G923.

84 gto is a superb car in the game. Whether stock, lightly tuned or full on praino tune.

Very enjoyable/satisfying car to throw around. Perfect amount of controllable oversteer for me.

If I'm honest . . . it's my favorite car in the game. Even more so in V.R.

95% of the time I'm driving it stock, and occasionally I'll use CS tires on it and simulate a Car & Driver test with the GTO, 959 and a couple other cars thrown in (depending on my mood.)

1999 e36 …wish I didn’t trade it in. Been driving audi’s since and i enjoy the quattro system. I dont think i want to go back to having a manual clutch…i got caught out in San Francisco hills a few times and car rolled backwards and or clutch burned out
