GT7 & PSVR2

Coming up on almost one year without any major updates to VR or the VR UI, what is everyone's top 3 most wanted features for VR? Mine are easy:

  • MORE RACE INFO. I want standings and deltas (for both time trials and race positions) and track postions. Would be cleanest integrated into the MFD.
  • Let me set my head position ONCE for at LEAST the whole gaming session. In a GTWS online race with qualifiers and practice and pitting your head position will reset about a dozen separate times. I can understand why it wouldn't persist between sessions but that many resets in one race is inexcusable.
  • Dedicated HUD toggle on/off hotkey. Self-explanatory.
All of this.

Not being able to see deltas in TTs or to see yours vs other competitors just doesn’t make any sense.

Most of the time my head position is pretty good and doesn’t need adjusting, but when it does it’s all sorts of wonky. The FD RX7 puts me basically ON TOP of the dash which makes it hard to even adjust my body to compensate for resetting it to a normal spot, then the steering wheel is HUGE. No other car is this bad, but the Radical and some other cars need little adjustments, and like you said, if you’re resetting a bunch it gets super irritating to constantly hold your body in a strange spot to ensure your cockpit view is right. Once I set it though, it remains good until I restart or finish the race, no problems with pitting resetting position or anything.

  • let us watch VR replays with the full timeline controls, and also let us stay in one position/change positions as we like.

THIS TOO! The VR replays could be so cool, but I never use them because of several reasons. The lack of being able to pause/adjust time is a big one (oh, you missed what you wanted to see? RESET!). Besides that it will put you in the DUMBEST spots looking off into nowhere which forces you to swing your head around to see the cars, then swing again to follow them past you. The whole time I’m swinging my head back and forth like I’m watching a tennis match… it’s so stupid and uncomfortable.

The ghosting in VR replay is also pretty terrible, but at least if the rest of its function made sense you could watch a replay, upload it and watch it cleanly in 2D, but as it is, I don’t waste my time (or risk cervical spine damage) with it.

Hi fellas

Here’s my first PSVR2 thread contribution; I’ve been playing GT7 constantly since it was released and have gone from playing with pad and not even knowing what assists I have on/racing line/braking zone to a strong cockpit, DD wheel/load cell pedals and all the assists off (usually… :odd: ) aaaand since Christmas, now a PSVR2 😎

I’ve gotta say I first tried it at a friends on a pad on his sofa, had no time to set it up properly and in a room full of distractions… I wasn’t overly impressed. I did have a bit of fun in the vr showroom though! But I persisted, all the positive reviews and over on the time trial thread; some of the fastest people there driving in VR saying they’d never go back!

Anyways, I’ve been having some great seat time in GT7 using PSVR2 and I had ‘that moment’ last night when it really blew my mind. I absolutely adore trying different track and car combos, the wheel/pedals already add an element but sitting in the cockpit of these cars and really feeling them, not just how quickly they accelerate, grip in corners or how they sound. It’s especially satisfying given that I usually use bumper cam so 99.9% of the time I see absolutely nothing of the car I’m in, except when an identical one overtakes me :dunce:

Anyways last night I did some time trial lapping and then completed the final weekly challenge race and then I did two things which I’d like to become routine; pick a race I don’t normally do/pick a car I don’t normally drive and, find a car I love in real life and just look around it in the VR showroom.

So the race was I think historic masters at Willow Springs, a track I used to hate until I ‘got’ it and now I love.. I chose an AC Cobra, red with white stripes and suitable tyres/tune to get it just under the PP requirement and… wow. This is the most immersive racing I’ve ever done, what an experience. I’m sat in my ‘sun room’ cockpit at night in winter whilst it’s -5c and snowing outside and yet my brain is 95% sure I’m in a classic American car driving round a historic race track in the desert on a perfect evening surrounded by epic cars from automotive history, they are close enough to touch.

The hot air balloons are such a beautiful touch and they are so much more prominent in VR, on lap two I think there’s a bit of texture glitching in the dust down the back straight but no, it’s a perfect shadow of a balloon as it passes silently overhead. As the race progresses the sun slowly sets and the colours darken, every lap is different, I watch the sun set behind the hills and my headlights light up the last few corners which become slippery as the track cools. I enter the finish line straight slightly sideways with a small amount of opposite lock and wow, all that’s missing is the breeze through my hair and the smell of hot brakes, high octane fuel and burnt rubber.

There are many faults with this game but in terms of art, staging, realism and beauty it’s just on another level to anything that’s gone before it. I can’t wait to see what comes next; I wonder with a PS5 ‘pro’ maybe greater computing power might lead to even better/sharper graphics, longer draw distances?? I can’t wait but for now I have plenty to chew on!

And for my little R&R session I chose a stock Lamborghini Countach, wow what a thing to look at even in a digitally recreated model. Even watching the undeniably 80s indicators blinking is fascinating to me.

The whole setup feels like the bargain of the century, for less than a set of coilovers for a road legal track car you can get 90% of the experience, with an instant choice of hundreds of cars… just wow.

Anyways, as you were. That’s my rambling done for the day!!

Welcome to the PSVR2 world! One thing I would suggest if you haven't tried it . . .

License tests. In VR.

This will not only help you with driving, but it's a great immersive experience to boot. Small warning though: play enough in VR and the flat screen skills may disapate.

Found this out myself at the National Capital Auto Show late last week.

But also, had a blast getting into cars and seeing how incredibly accurate the GT7 versions are!

Ok, I'll get back in my box.

<SNIP> ... Especially bad if you just happen to be looking in the wrong direction and you need to reset your head position.
This is the #1 most annoying that to me about the VR experience in GT.

#2 is the lack of race data during the race

They did such a great job with it overall, they just need to invest in a couple of key tweaks. It seems that there is general agreement as to what the top priorities are

I only will play in VR any more, but it is pretty surprising to me nearly a year after the headset launched and GT7 became playable in it that PD hasn't made any updates like this to the VR interface. I think we all assumed it would happen, especially by now.

Curious as to any data on gt7 psvr2 user to overall …im guessing pd has a way to track that??? I had the psvr1 with gt sport and it got no updates. Given the lack of games that come out for the psvr2 i am not sure whether this will get any updates

That would be nuts. The old one had horrendous stats which were always going to suck. Psvr2’s specs are literally the line between sucking and being decent. To let that potential languish would be silly.

If they have time to make a dang jimny they should have enough for what arguably are minor tweaks to the vr experience.

I cant measure distance or speed on a flat screen anymore.

After 2 months of VR playing, I tried some TT without it and I didnt hit one single apex
I've always been like that, I've never properly got on with driving games until VR came out.

Almost 7 years ago now DiRT rally came out with PSVR support and it was a total revelation. Suddenly a game I just could not master before became awesome, I was so much more in control of the car than any racing game I'd played before.

So from then it's VR only for me when it comes to driving games.

All signs point to PSVR2 not doing so hot. Which is a total shame because GT in VR is bananas.

Unfortunately I don't think VR is a priority for Sony and that extends to PD.

I kinda hope GT actually makes it to PC and takes off on VR there. The PC VR market seems way more healthy.

I read that a new Metro game is coming out on VR. And hopefully Alyx will still come out for PSVR2.

I plan to use the headset well into the PS6's lifetime. It's really good hardware. PS5 Pro may boost sales, as well.

Still waiting for a good multi directional treadmill to play most games not gt7.

Im just not going to play a fps, or mmo like zenith, until i can walk and run(ish!) and do stuff. Its boggling nothings realy come to market yet. The idea of getting aerobic exercise while gaming is the biggest no brainer.

Doubly so for corded vr headsets!

C’mon ..somebody take my money!
🤣

Sony has done a horrible job of spurring PSVR2 game development.

Arguably it's best game (GT7) has had ONE update since launch. It makes me think Sony held Kaz hostage and forced them to make it compatible. LOL

It sometimes feels like they lost faith in the technology half way through development, but were like **** it we ship it anyway.

I'm having more fun playing Ultrawings 2 than I thought I would. For $20 it's pretty good, bought it on a whim yesterday.. Definitely has some of those same vibes as GT7 the first time I played it in VR with that stomach churning feeling. It's like you're really flying even though it has cartoony gfx.

The state of play tonight has some PSVR2 announcements. Will be interesting to see if it's just Quest ports or proper 1st & 3rd party new games.

Credible rumors point to Metro VR. Very exciting. SoP is tomorrow though.

Yes. Metro VR is indeed exciting. This is big IP game made specifically for PSVR2 i hope it will have proper AAA feel.
I hope there will be more PSVR2 titles announced

Also i hope again that F1 2024 will have psvr2 support…

There need to be more games that utilise PSVR2, but this is a GT7 thread.

Like others have said, I hope ACC and F1 2024 get PSVR2 support and that it's announced during this presentation. I think it would go a long way towards pressuring Kaz/PD to actually improve GT7's implementation.
Completely agree.

PSVR 2 has kept me playing GT7 but I wouldn't be playing it without the headset.

I'm worried that Sony wouldn't want us playing other racing titles so they might not allow PS VR2 to be compatible?

I add GTR Revival to the 2 games you mentioned as titles I would love to be able to use PS VR2 with.

I don't think sony has an issue with other racing titles...I honestly think developers at some of these studios aren't really enthusiastic about wanting to make their games psvr2 compatible.

We'll see what gets announced today...still waiting for aces of thunder :boggled:

Quite the opposite, more titles would push more hardware sales.

The problem is that so few of us GT players own the headset that it's not worth the investment of developer resources from PD... They need all the development cycles for more VGT cars and music rally.
