Standing or Rolling starts?

To all D2 drivers - thanks for those who came, there were some decent racing up and down the field. A little messy during first race, but got much better later on.

Also does anyone know who is this Walker guy?
not a clue mate.

I believe that is true on tracks with less straights and more corners, Pace wise It's equal. i'm just saying it has a huge advantage off the line and keeping drivers that are faster behind.
but hopefully the main move will be in the pit strategy

I tried starting in 2nd gear (as I did with you) and it was too much

tried it in 3rd in race 1 and it couldn't get going :P

@alex salmon mentioned penalties and @Ian_83 flying past on the straight, if others feel a change needs to be made then I say we look at it but in that instance Ian had more penalty than you but he still had more power because his car started 40BHP above Alex's. I think that was more likely a case of Ian getting a good corner exit (as he always seems to) and having 22BHP more than Alex. @True-blue-8 what do you think about this?

Well, watch the replay and you'll see what happened here and why Alex really shouldn't have been moaning.

It was Race 2, Lap 2 and the straight in question was the one just after turn 5.

The facts are this, Alex was making contact with Ducker through turn 2 and 3 which screwed up his own line for turn 4 + 5 and therefore the exit of 5 was slow. Meanwhile I'm in clean air, running SS tyres and I nail it through 2/3/4/5 and onto the straight. Alex exited turn 5 at about 80mph and I was doing 91mph.

Now why he decided to complain I have no flaming idea and it's pretty annoying considering how the races went and some of the standards that I witnessed (I'll leave that for a PM).

Sorry Alex, you buggered up the turns and had the harder compound tires on than me. I could have overtook you on a skateboard while towing another Nissan Skyline. At least watch your replays before complaining or remember the facts of what happened.

I'm not using power to get me off the line so well. There are methods of getting a good start and I have one that works well. Just ask anyone that ever raced me in the BTCC (@rolo912011 and @CptMadBean). ;)

Ok, I guess that it really does need to be said now after watching.

Alex, for a few times last season (and end of season 1) and even BTCC if I recall correctly @Ian_83 ?? your driving was aggressive. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and tried to back you up.

Start of the race you made a good start. You then attempted to squeeze me off track on the run to the first corner. I had to back out and let you go. You then slammed in Agro/Evo (sorry can not recall) on the exit, pushing them off track. Then 2nd corner the pack was bunched and you decided to make your own gap, forcing 2 others off track. Come out of the chican, down the straight and pile into @DR_ingo5 forcing him wide and taking the place. Then battling with skeng you either pushed him wide or closed the door. I had seen enough after that and even then there were terrible moves/blocks into corners. I have to say this as it shows you have no awareness, and its how we don't want people driving like.

You are going to be put into Division 2 while @wambam23 takes the D1 seat

Is everyone generally happy with the penalties as they are then?
good to me mate, will explain more in the brief 👍

I just broke into parc ferme and have found this in the Volvo

for shame ;)

I can vouch for your great off the line pace aswell, I was very jealous of this when I was in the megane in BTCC 7
 Ahhh, those were the days. :)

It isn't the Volovo's power that gets me off the line, if anything it would give me more wheelspin. I was doing exactly the same starts in the Megane in the following BTCC season too.

Great season

That megane was such a pain of the line

best start and race had to go to me at spa. remember that?

I know when Ian started with the Volvo in btcc.
He was miles behind when the green lights came on.
I think he was one of the slowest cars off the line.
Then about half way in to the season, he just got that Volvo a bit by bit better off the line.
Next thing we knew was it us trying to beat him off the line.

But the fact that you have 30 horsepower more and a car that weighs 30kgs less of course you will have better acceleration and top speed.

Thanks both
Yep, top job fella. Keep on shouting out those numbers and checking the specs. You made it look easy.

Seemed fairly good at hosting the lobby too, I didn't see any lag myself, so well done.

Just one small suggestion....

...Once you have the race format set in concrete, it might be easier to save the 3 race formats and then you can swap the lobby settings quicker with less hassle. :)

Err. That won't help me from a standing start though will it? I need to get the car moving and the wheelspin killed off long before I can start getting the power down. ;) If we had a rolling start, my power:weight would make a huge difference for sure.

Put it this way, when I drive @CptMadBean's Citroen C4 during practice races, I beat him off the line everytime in that too. The car does not equal a great start, it is meerly a small part of the equation. There is also grip level, driver talent, tuning and reaction times. I've got most of them sorted by now.

My power:weight means that I am faster on the straight, that is a given. That's why I make sure that I can use my horses coming out of each and every corner.

Yes, that's a good idea if @True-blue-8 wants me to host regularly I am happy to do it. Only thing I am not doing currently is recording the results for scoring purposes, easy enough to do from replays/photos of the results screen though I guess.

Actually I can't remember it. Did you beat me? :nervous:
you don't? you will in the minute

Started in 5th at spa, had a cracking start and after the first turn I was leading. Had a great battle with you and @xflow1390 then I had my, 'famous', pit stop :sly:

I always check afterwards anyway mate 👍

That's not quite true MadBean. I had the starts mastered when I raced in the Alfa Romeo GT. 👍 I've just got better as the seasons progressed though.

But you're right, I like giving the FR guys something to think about at the start of a race. It's great fun.

If you are happy to handle the scoring mate then I can just do the lobbies and the penalties, sound good?

I don't want to be dragged into it too much @True-blue-8. I have PM'd you my thoughts and I'll keep it at that.

I was steward at the BTCC for a while and I've done my fair share of trying to sort out who is right and who is wrong.... Basically, as a steward (or host) you are always wrong. ;) It is impossible to please everyone and some drivers just don't listen or accept any liability for their driving. I guess that they think that they're the best.
