That's awesome. I missed the chance of taking a ragtop 427/4 speed for a spin a few years ago when the fuel pump quit on the damned thing. Sad Cano was sad.
Aww! This car was a 4 speed as well. (As it should be)

Would be best if the images of the cars were on Switzerland/Sweden/Alaska, any place very cold and snowy, if you know what I mean.

If you don't get it, let me tell you,. Sub-Zero. Directly into the Ice Box or rather, into the freezer.

GT1 introduced me to this wonderful car. I love it, the shape...but the version I always felt in love, was the split-window in the rear. God I love it.

Also...UrieHusky voted this as SERIOUSLY UNCOOL?

Nonono NO! You don't call that seriously uncool! Sure, it's your opinion but for crying out loud.

It screams "MIDLIFE CRISIS, I'M HAVING A MIDLIFE CRISIS".
You're thinking of one of these.

Cool. It's the only cool Corvette I can think of, it's not sub-zero because it can be Barrett Jackson fodder and almost exclusively owned by collectors and old guys with silver hair, but still very cool. Probably one of the few older cars I'd drive and not feel embarrassed in too.

Without a doubt the best-looking Corvette that was ever put together by GM. Great assortment of engines and transmissions, suspensions, wheels and tires, plenty of diversity to make every model stand out. Although I think the convertible is great, I'd have a coupe. Still a shockingly beautiful car 50+ years on.

A red C2 convertible, with a 4 speed, was the first manual V8 I drove, so much more driving pleasure than a tired old slushbox. I loved every moment of it. Even if it was 5 degrees C outside and the ragtop wasn't installed yet.

Best looking Corvette. With or without roof. With or without Split window. Sub Kelvin for me.

Given a choice between a C2 or a C3 Vette, I take the C3 but I do tip my hat for any C2.

Sub-zero.

SZ. Perhaps the greatest generation of one of America's most iconic cars. Doesn't look out of place on the street, drag strip, race track or concours lawn.

Also, pop-up headlights.

And the split rear window of early ones is one of those details that basically anyone can appreciate.

I agree entirely but...

The next gen really was more sexy. :P

and of course...
Only that first year had the split window.
From what I understand that is what makes it so collectible.

Btw, anyone else notice how this car hasn't earned too many "garage queen" comments? :sly:

Edit:
... This picture totally makes me feel justified in voting cool since I now need to reserve SZ for the C3.

There's some guy in my area with a silver C2 that I've seen a couple times. Always from the front or side, so I can't tell if it's a split window, although I suspect not.

Probably not as cool as the guy who daily drives a Studebaker Avanti around here, though.

Edit: That does remind me though, the other C2 I know around here is owned by a family friend. I've never even seen it in person because it's in his garage all the time.

I saw one at a car show once. Pure filth.

Only a cool from me. The split rear windows would be sub zero, but if my automobilia knowledge isn't misleading, the split windows were only produced 1 year?

Edit. apparently, yes as said above

The C2 is the king of cool when it comes to Corvettes. Later Stingray iterations never came close in that regard, though the early the C3's weren't exactly too far off.

That must be a regular at British car shows. Caught the same one in April along with another convertible in Nassau blue.

Neither represent my ideal Corvette though, as pretty as they are.

A Black C2 (either coupe or conv) with white leather interior? Yessir.

@Wiegert Actually, the show I went to with the red C2 was in Shropshire, or very south Cheshire, so it's likely it's a 'local' car for us.

Wouldn't mind a black coupe myself.

It does look damn good in that picture, and I'm a fan of the C3 myself. Arguably the prettier shape (and certainly cheaper to buy these days, which is neat) but I reckon the C2 is cooler.

Part of the C3's problem is that - if I understand correctly - some were a bit "weak" as they had the misfortune of being built during the oil embargo. I expect other C3s had a bit of power but the impression I get is that there's a bit more style to those than there is substance.

A classic car place up the road from me has one for hire though. I'm very tempted one weekend...

L88 427 C3. 'Nuff said.

That's just a collection of meaningless numbers and letters to me.

L88 = very very very limited production run of the 427 big block with iirc 12.5:1 compression, solir lifters and such stuff. It's basically the made of unobtanium edition of the C3 Vette, with iirc again, less than 10 made or something. Auction fodder, if I may.

Gotcha. I would also have accepted @Slash's "It goes fast"

It does appear to be another example of the "by the time you've explained it..." thing that permeates cars like this, though. I'm happy with a Corvette being a C1, C2, C3 etc. Special editions don't really do anything for me, so the C3 is simply the one I like the look of but am aware of it having a reputation for being a bit strangled.
