I think the book you have was being a little too generous.
Agreed. I don't think that the Aries was the changing point. Rather, I think the minivans were a decent reason too, and the book focused more on that. Then again, I'm not even sure a car like the Prius could save Chrysler from it's decennial bankruptcy issues.

Of course I know that other cars were quiet and comfy. Hundreds of other cars were (some will be in my encyclopedia). It just that for it's time, the Aries was more comfy, quieter, higher quality, than any other American compact you could purchase.
Even if that were the case - and remember that Volkswagen and BMW were still things that existed - that isn't memorable. Do you know what the most comfortable, quietest, highest quality Korean SUV from the early 00s was? Nope? That'll be because those things don't make it memorable.

Of course we're also getting that report from someone who owns one 35 years after they were first made with absolutely zero first-hand experience of the car in context and its rivals.

So far you're 0-3 on the telling people how memorable a car it is front. If this is the quality of writing you'll be putting into your book, it might take a year - but no-one will publish it.

But my encyclopedia will include every make and model, detailed information about every make and model, specs for every make and model, and pictures for every make and model. I'll even touch on finances of the companies, little known companies, and little known models like the Dodge Omni 024 DeTomaso Edition.
Can't wait.
But games like Gran Turismo and Forza, in terms of car detail, are very close to real.
I don't even know how to respond to that so I'll stick with no, they very much aren't.
I have that book. The Aries I think may have two paragraphs.
There goes plagiarizing for filler. :irked:

Is "going through headgaskets like they're a bag of crisps" something memorable? Because it certainly did that.

Most Aries's did not do that.

Yeah, keep in mind that you got

A year.

If you work diligently, you can easily accomplish that in a year. And I have an advantage, since for most cars I won't have to search the web to get info for.

It started a trend of lackluster cars from Chrysler that is still going strong today. That counts for something, right?

You have it opposite. It started a trend of higher quality, and more innovative Chryslers (Caravan, TC by Maserati, purchase of AMC, etc).

Can you prove that impartially?

I.E. give us professional reviews from the time without cherry-picking?

I can easily give reviews without cherry picking.
yeah but it's not real though is it

I know it's not real. I said close to real.

Ah, okay, so it's like, the king of the turds?

Well said.

9 pages, and still going. You know what, I don't even care anymore. I might go on the Request thread and one of my favourite cars. Which I find cool but doubt many will.

Though, in actuality, I might not but bring something at least decent compared to this junkyard on wheels.

@The87Dodge Sorry, bud but, you're one of the few that failed to caught the meaning of the Cool Wall, jsut because you think one car you love is cool, doesn't mean the world should agree too. But serious, you were *SERIOUSLY* surprised & shocked you did not see many cool vote or SZ votes? Wow.

I might like a few cars that aren't that good, but I wouldn't go this bad.

I know two people who I consider to be at the sharper end of extreme expertise in single vehicles and with a broader knowledge of cars at least equal to mine who have written books about cars. Both of them wrote books about a single vehicle range which was at least partially produced in the 1980s. Both of them took a year to write their books. One of them is a member of this site.

Of course we're also getting that report from someone who owns one 35 years after they were first made with absolutely zero first-hand experience of the car in context and its rivals.
I owned one when it was 13 years old and it was terrible. I can guarantee this is not a vehicle that gets better with age, either.

If the book doesn't have this GTP thread as a cited source when it is released, I'll return the book in an instant. That is under the assumption that the book is actually written and sold, and being point blank about that point, work clearly hasn't begun yet. It also assumes that I buy it, which again, isn't going to happen since he hasn't begun researching for it.

I can start my own publishing company if I want to.

My parents bought a then new 1986 Plymouth Voyager when I was 6 years old, and I can definitely assure you that yes, most of them did.

That's a Voyager you are talking about, not an Aries.

Well? Get cracking.

I will start as soon as this discussion ends.

Canadian "music" band Nickelback featured an Aries (and a Reliant) in one of their videoclips back in 2000. That tells you how memorable it actually is.

Thank you.

I bet most people who buy the book are not even on GTP, so the citation of this GTP thread probably would not be necessary.

There's a band named Reliant K.

They suck.

Wait, there actually is a band named after one of my favorite cars? I'll probably download their whole album.

You already wasted 30 precious minutes of the ~525,600 minutes you can be spending on writing that book of yours. Why not start now?

I need to finish discussing first. In all honesty, this nine page discussion is actually amusing for me.

You have it opposite. It started a trend of higher quality, and more innovative Chryslers (Caravan, TC by Maserati, purchase of AMC, etc).

The Caravan isn't exactly a fun or cool car. The TC by Maserati sucked and the AMC deal probably helped Chrysler more than this steaming pile of excrement.

That's not to say they haven't made good cars since the 80s, the Viper is one of my favorite cars of the last 20 years. But things like the Avenger, Journey, Nitro, Caliber, Prowler, PT Cruiser, Compass and about 90% of their other cars since the 80's are worthless.

You know what, discussion is over today. I have a lot of work to do!

Maybe we can wrap it up tomorrow evening, or night.

I can start my own publishing company if I want to.
Sure. We self-published GTPEDIA - but that's not your problem. Amongst your problems is that you don't know as much as you think you do and the quality of your writing isn't high enough to explain what you believe.

You've had three goes at explaining why the Aries is memorable and now you're ignoring it because you can't do it.

Amongst the rest of them is the fact you think it will only take a year and think you know more about 1980s cars than every other GTP member:
I know two people who I consider to be at the sharper end of extreme expertise in single vehicles and with a broader knowledge of cars at least equal to mine who have written books about cars. Both of them wrote books about a single vehicle range which was at least partially produced in the 1980s. Both of them took a year to write their books. One of them is a member of this site.
But by all means crack on.
