Been doing some testing today regarding Pit Stops.
Test parameters:
  1. Grand Valley in Relics Garage.
  2. Subaru BRZ GT300.
  3. MoTeC i2 Pro used to analyze the data.
  4. Pit stall was beyond the Start/Finish line so all measurements had a starting reference of the new lap start time.
    1. The GT6 software was in control of the car throughout the measured pit sequence. ( no human variables )
  5. A 12 lap run pitting for tires only till 100 liters needed then accepted the entire 100 liters.
  6. Successive 6+ lap runs where I pitted on lap 5/6 taking 30, 40, 50, & 60 liters.
  7. Drove at race speeds for all laps.
Here are my findings.
  1. On the 12 lap run:
    1. Each stop & go progressed toward the start/finish line resulting in miniscule gains as fuel depleted.
    2. There was a significant cost to accepting 100 liters of fuel.
  2. On the successive 6+ lap runs:
    1. 30 & 40 liter stops were conducted within the tire change time frame.
    2. The 50 liter stop continued filling beyond the tire change.
    3. The 60 liter stop increased the filling time significantly.
On one run I was joined by another Geezer and the data showed a pit entry delay for the additional player even though that player had already pitted, when we pitted together the delay was more pronounced.

Doc, are you saying that when totally under computer control in the pit lane, the logs show improved acceleration on each lap as the fuel load lessened?

I'm hoping my reading of this is correct! I'm feeling a bit fuzzy-headed right now, so I may be confusing stuff.

The car arrives in the pit box sooner and departs sooner as fuel is burned off. It seems PD just uses time to accomplish adjusting for weight loss. If they actually used acceleration the deceleration trace would get progressively steeper vs start & stop earlier following the same slope.

Lap to lap the difference seems small but with several laps of fuel burn the difference is obvious.

I think I get it now. The amount of time the car is stationary in the pit box becomes shorter as the fuel load depletes, even if in every pit stop zero fuel is taken on.

Kind of bizarre.

And it may mean that once out on the track, with a lighter fuel load than a few laps ago, the car's acceleration is not improved.

Thanks for all this work, Doc!

I think I've worked it out. When the car is laden with fuel, it's heavier, so it takes longer to lift it up to change the tires, and it has to be set down more gently and slowly when that's done.

Okay, that's complete BS. I'm going back to sleep.

Geezer event suggestion.

The current Seasonal Races have been extended, so I tried the Corvette C2, stock, no oil change, comfort hard tires.

It was fun. I didn't win.

Looks like it lost one BHP between showroom and garage!

EDIT:- it's a Premium, so looks good inside

Dear Geezers I hope you don't mind me putting up an ad and a link for our new race series - I know you guys are old enough to remember the "Trans Am" and "Can Am" championships and I thought there might be one or two interested in joining us on a Sunday at 17:00 GMT. Waukazoo used to race with us until he became too busy with his Geezer duties.

I want you Poster Geezer.jpg

This weekend for both days races, to get to the Triple Nickel go to Relics garage but, instead of going to events, Go to the Club Lobby. It's the green globe on the left. I'll have a room open there for the race. It will be open aproximity a half hour or so before before the race for any questions and rolling start practice if needed.

Thanks to everyone that helped with this event and to all who joined to race.
Good luck and have fun.

I can't seem to find the time to ever race with you guys but I follow this group with relish ....and since I would guess that you would appreciate what they now call Vintage Racing Photographs would you mind if I occasionally post one or two and links to where you can find more.

.... I found this only yesterday on Dan Gurney's AAR Site( allamericanracer.com ). I had never seen it before....his site is a incredible collection of pix from his career. Remember he won the marques first GPs for Porsche, Brabham, and for own AAR. And then there was Le Mans where he not only won with AJ but he started the tradition of spraying the Champagne...which will endure...hopefully forever.

PS it is a great desktop for your computer.
