In the UK, to have a classic car it has to be over 25 years old at least. Then you can buy classic car insurance, pay no tax (at least I still think it's like that) etc.

I thought it was 25 years in the US as well.. but I'm probably wrong. I guess two of mine will be classics next year & I sold a classic Miata last year, lol.

What?! Your countries restrict the insurance you're allowed to get AND then force you to get insurance to drive, too!? My word... *Read my signature* Canada...

Well, I didn't mean anything was restricted here.. just that @ a certain age a car's eligible for a more specialized insurance type, if you want. (what exactly "classic/antique etc" means is up to each individual insurance company) I'm not sure what you mean about being forced to have insurance to drive though.. IMO, every country should require such if you're going to drive in public. (or have some legal provision that covers other drivers, in the event that an uninsured motorist causes an accident. that's why you're required to have car insurance here & rightly so)

It's the law to have any vehicle on the road to be insured in the UK, if it's not then the Police just impound it on the grounds that its not.

The insurance isn't restricted, you can still choose to insure with normal companies, but as soon as it hits 25 it's considered a classic; making it eligible for classic insurance. Provided that you don't do more than 10,000 miles or so a year (I think it's even less now) you get huge savings in insurance.

Same here, though I know at least with some companies it's 7500 miles. (technically speaking, so long as the car's not driven on public roads, it doesn't have to be insured) I pull the 7's insurance in winter & MX-3's in summer. Miata gets my love rain, snow or shine though. :D

In Canada, in order to keep plates on it at renewal, there must be insurance on the vehicle. Most people keep fire and theft on it all winter, and then put collision/etc, back on in the summer.

I'm too cheap/don't suppose I can properly afford 3 cars :P, but they're pretty lax about our plates. (on a parked car) I mean, it's not like I'm required to turn one in if the sticker goes dead. Just go get a new sticker come spring. Got the notice for the RX-7 last month but I've got till April 30th @ the latest to deal with it. (costs like an extra $1.50 at the last minute) Could get kinda hairy if I had to push the subject, but my house policy will technically cover my uninsured, parked vehicles, (to an extent). Guess I'm glad I'm south of the border!

I don't have my own car yet and since I have my learners permit, I've been driving my parents cars. A 2010 Ford Edge Limited AWD and a 2008 Lexus RX350 to be exact :) I'm hoping I can get a car this summer.

I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma access cab 4-cylinder 2-wheel drive automatic.

It is extremely useful, reliable and trustworthy, and gets great fuel economy for a mid-size pickup, but it's also extremely boring to drive. No, I would not like to see it in GT5 -- the 2005 X-Runner currently in the game is way better.

I have a Tacoma too. It's a 2004 with only 25k on the odo. I don't drive it much at all but they're great cars.

An 1986 Volvo 240 dl which is my first car. Has just over 240000 miles on it. Good car but breaks down all the time. But that's typical of older Volvos and old cars in general.

Mitsubishi RVR 'Sports Gear', 1996 (first gen). It's tall, it's heavy, it's not quick, but it is surprisingly fun, particularly on roundabouts. And it's great for hauling band gear.

The car I have now is a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina LS with 217428 miles on the engine. It's paint is going bald in patches as was the problem for GM cars for this era. I'm fixing all its issues up, it has been a very reliable car strong motor for sure. The issus are a Valve cover leak, broken interior parts and loose exhaust as well as a big dent in the passenger front fender. Once I'm done fixing its issues Ill start saving for a 2nd generation RX7.

Looks good man! I briefly toyed with the idea of selling the Miata with the RX & picking up a boxster. Miata's are just too cheap & easy to own/maintain though. Now if I could get a new one or there were Caymen's old enough to be affordable..!

Not quite correct.

Firstly, for classic insurance the age limit is pretty arbitrary. If the insurance company decides it's specialist enough, then you can get classic insurance on pretty much anything. A Lotus Elise will do, and the oldest ones of those are 16 years old.

As for road tax, it's pre-1972 which gets free road tax. Used to be a 25-year rolling exemption, but they stopped it years ago. Which is irritating for me, as I own a 1974 car...

After skimming around I couldn't be asked to actually surf the whole thing MrMelancholy15. So you were after a $900 SC300, then your dad said he'd spring for a $7500 IS300?! but you ended up with an '05 Impreza wagon auto? :ouch: (and you're getting a free house if you can manage to gradiate' :odd:) Why not just link to the page where the purchase is firmly obvious and/or start a new thread for it, rather than sig-link a stinky mess that's mucked up with the usual BS you seem to bring on yourself? Or better yet, just give us a couple pics & simple info right here like everybody else/this thread was intended. :P

Woah, anger. Sorry. My mobile phone is terrible. Or, rather, wireless...

Either way, Facebook photos don't load, etc. And it's too much work. Look at the top of page 6.

Why do yall waste forum space/time with bad post from phones.. (kids these days! :boggled:) Anyways I have to ask.. your parents were gonna go for a $7500 Lexus etc, why didn't you wait for something better than what sounds like basically a base automatic wagon? (which I'm thinking was when they were still crap 4spd's?)

+1

:lol::lol::lol:

I suppose I can update with what I drive. I have 2 Miatas, a 90 Classic Red and a 91 Silverstone. The slave or master cylinder just went out in the 91 and the 90 is a work in progress, just replaced the engine and will be doing some stuff here and there to get it on the road when the weather starts feeling a little nicer. I aslo have an 89(88?) Corolla which is an absolute pleasure to drive. Unfortunately it's in Houston, TX at the moment waiting for me to figure out how to get it up here.

These pictures make them look nicer than they really are. :sly:

Nice casey_2005! I had a 200k '91 along with the '96M that was originally planned as either a stripped out autoX or a monster-swap project but decided to let'r go & sold it to my mechanic. He's pretty redneck & wants to do a 5L swap but can't kill the mighty 1.6L either. :D I dig the black factory rack btw.. originally I'd planned to install & even had one, but then decided I'd go with a tasteful little spoiler, new lid with something small incorporated and/or an aftermarket ductail of sorts. Not sure getting rid of it was the right choice!

I'd prefer a 2d but nice as well Murcie_LP640. 👍 I'm contemplating finally letting the MX-3 go, (had one around since my first/car, Christmas '98!), in favor of an eventual Impreza winter-driver build.. since AWD makes more sense as such. Not sure I can do it though, haha.

Some very nice rides here. 👍

Owned her for over a year and a half now, and I'm not tired of her yet: my 2011 Renault Mégane RS 250 Cup:

She brings a smile to my face every day. :) Bought her with 0 on the clock, and I brought her to 41k kilometers so far. Normally, it starts to itch after I've owned car for about a year and a half, but not with this baby, it's that awesome!

Cool NLxAROSA, I've always wished they had those here! Hope you've got'r for a long long time! I'm exactly the opposite/get far too attached to my car's. :)
(though have yet to own a new one, as there're very few new, affordable ones that interest me & they don't make the good ones anymore, lol)
