Why do yall waste forum space/time with bad post from phones.. (kids these days! :boggled:) Anyways I have to ask.. your parents were gonna go for a $7500 Lexus etc, why didn't you wait for something better than what sounds like basically a base automatic wagon? (which I'm thinking was when they were still crap 4spd's?)

Really? That's low.

Firstly, the base is a 1.8 liter, I've got a 2.5.

Secondly, I'm on my phone because, in Canada, (or, if you prefer, the real world) people need sleep, etc., and it takes time, and energy to move.

Thirdly, the Lexus... My dad thought "Oh, it's a rebadged 4 cylinder Toyota, front-wheel-drive, 100ish horsepower. But, it looks nice. That keeps Andrew happy."

Then the insurance company said "Oh, you're buying your 19 year old a 200+ hp luxury sports car? Okay, $11,000 a year for insurance." And my dad was done.

So, we got the Subaru Impreza 2.5RS, at an auction, for $4000 less than the regular price, with low kilometers, and running in good condition.

And, finally, I uploaded the photos on my phone to Facebook. Photos coming now.

Wow, just like most of the rest of your posts I've seen lately.... blablabla, nothing. And to think I stood up for ya originally regarding the S300 stuff. As far as insurance, if it was a major driving force I could still think of better alternatives. (considering the budget it sounds like dad gave Andrew) At the least it's too bad ya didn't get a manual/something with a useable auto. (especially considering the rally plans) Oh well, good luck with it.

PS - sounds like "the real world" is the "too lazy to get out of bed to post pics of my ride world". You make Canadians sound pretty lethargic. I'll say it again - kids these days!

Oh, oh really? Mason, you sit here, on this thread... Reading about everyone else's cars, but, you decide to criticize me, for my own decisions? Go ahead, criticize more, bud. I'm sure that THAT makes you seem mature. "Lethargic" is one thing, but, repulsively hyper-critical is another. But, I bet you're glad you have a manual transmission, right? Because the automatic transmission in this car was worse than the head gasket leaks on all of the other Imprezas around here, right?

Seriously, the lesser of two evils is always the smaller problem.

I found a car that works, in almost every situation I need it to, and you're still going to dog me, about my decision? Why?

In short Andrew, (as harsh as it is & unless you're planning a tranny swap), you have an automatic wagon with racing/tuner plans. (base engine in the US/unreal world) It just doesn't make sense, especially with what else you said was considered & your goals. So all the manuals around you right now have bad head gaskets? Have a little patience and/or widen your search area a bit. What I wanted wasn't available when I went off to college. Only wound up having to wait three months for my then budget/FWD dream car to show up right at home.. in my price range, great shape, and they were pretty rare in the area @ the time. (a V6 MX-3 :D)

PS - if you'd simply put some pics of it here like everybody else, (rather than lazily directing us to that horrendous thread), none of this woulda likely ensued. ;) Anywho, as I said - good luck with it

Well then quit complaining and start reading!!

I said I'd give you photos, now give me time.

I'm sorry, for eating food. I'm sorry for practicing for tomorrow's GT5 races. I'm sorry for... Ummmmm... Hhhhhmmmm, being busy. Again, this is the real world, where when someone says that they're too busy, they mean that they're too busy to put the new photos up.

I'd prefer a 2d but nice as well Murcie_LP640. 👍

Cheers. I love a 2-door as well but they're rare as hen's teeth down here. Natural progression though will either see me in an STi or possibly a Skyline GT-R in a couple of years when it comes time to sell the Rex but I'm going to enjoy the hell out of the Rex first.

The GT-R would be really fast, but, not as versatile. Do you take Rex off-road? I'm not sure Nippon (or whatever you name your GT-R) would do it as well.

This, from my latest post, in my own thread. Copied/pasted.

The Rex is my daily driver. Hasn't been off-road (got my dad's Pathfinder Ti 550 for that), only on B-roads and the commute to work and around town. Some may say its a waste of its potential but I love driving it no matter where I'm at so it's all good, aye.

Yeah. My 2.5RS attends the occasional rally; not to take part, (again, autocross build,) but, just as my transportation. In Canada, the paved roads are also quite hilly, and occasionally icy... The four-wheel-drive plays a part in making it up steep, icy, rally-stage hills. Oh, and it brings a little bit more credibility, being a rally enthusiast in a Subaru. :sly:

Cool NLxAROSA, I've always wished they had those here!
Thanks, and it's the same way over here, I wish they had some of the cools US cars here at a reasonable price. But import and gas guzzling taxes make that extremely unfunny.

Good deal. By STi do you mean of the same gen or newer? The 2d's are fairly hard to come by here anymore too & unfortunately we didn't get STi's until the chassis got too big & heavy for me to really be that interested in em anymore. If only they'd make another 2d!! When I originally heard about the BRZ I got excited/thought their variant would be an AWD as opposed to exactly the same as Toyota/Scion's version. Oh well.. (I'm considering one in my future just the same, once they're a little used/in a better price bracket)

The two STis that I'd want is either a Version VI (same year/shape as my WRX) or Teardrop much like SPhilli's.

I was kinda hoping they'd make a hot AWD version of the BR-Z too but alas Subaru's denied an STi version of it :( or Subaru Australia has anyway.

Gotcha. No interest in the teardrop shaped ones here, especially after seeing one next to an older minivan - they're nearly the same size/shape! :yuck: Again, when I heard Subaru was coming out with a "hatch" style I got excited. (and they've stated no STi BRZ anywhere, at least so far) Dangit Subaru, we're not ALL soccer-mom's!!! :P

Are you serious? My dad and I parked the Subaru (a 🤬 wagon!) beside the Hyundai Accent, and the Hyundai Accent was bigger/taller. You want to say that the teardrop STi Imprezas are big? Not even slightly!

Maybe Hyundai Accents are secretly huge, but Hyundai tells us it's a compact car so people will think it's fuel efficient and buy lots of them. 💡

I figured we'd hear from you MrMelencholy15. :P I didn't say they were THE same size as a minivan & to give Subaru credit, pretty well ALL cars are on the plump side these days. But I don't care.. new Impreza's are fairly large if you ask me, yours included. Also, I was directly comparing a 1st gen 2d to a 2nd and beyond gen 5d. If you can park the two side by side & not think one's quite a bit bigger, you're blind. All this said, you're 19 & thus probably think early-mid 90's cars are small, lol. Also, Doog's spot-on. ;)

My 6'6" brothers fit in said cars of "the olden days", (read: the 90's to you, lol), just fine. Point being, cars external dimensions don't have to be as overgrown as they're becoming, at least to comfortably fit people. I realize there's a WHOLE lot more going on than that though, (namely lame safety BS & whatnot I imagine). Also, I wasn't even talking about inner dimensions to begin with/don't remember saying they were big internally. I'd say the reason new cars don't seem "big" to you, (other than you're being 19), is because most of them don't tend to be thaat much roomier inside than they were a generation or two earlier, while having grown in size & weight/externally.

Well, my Subaru's plenty roomy. We can fit 5 people, and a Belgian Malinois.

But, it doesn't take away from the performance, much.

My friend (who lives nearby) has a red RX-7 FD, much like yours, but, his was imported from Japan, on Nanking (sp?) tires. Even the Hyundai Accent (on Kumho all-seasons) was faster.

But, the power in the RX-7 was mindboggling.

So let me get this straight.. you guys were racing an FD with tires soo bad it can't keep up with an Accent? :scared: The facepalming's starting all over again.... (on a whole new level)

PS - don't even reply :P

I would do anything to own this car.

My Impreza.

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG, so much 🤬 jelly!

Im not sure if that's actually an STI or not but damn! You've more than likely seen my car, sometime during 2013 I plan to upgrade to an 04 WRX and if I want it to look like anything, I want it to look like that.

Infact, that's now the example of what I aspire mine to be. Great looking car mate 👍.

It is. I see no reason not to believe it; the right badges, rims, bumpers, spoilers, seats, horn... the list goes on and on.

Edit** Includes brakes, too. :sly:

Yes, on looking at his Flickr its apparent that it is an STI. Its not hard to fake one from the exterior though, that's why I said it.

Anyway, might as well post two standard photos of mine. I dont have the car at the moment (accident repairs), otherwise i'd take better ones.

It's finally going to get lowered, within the next couple of weeks :).

If I liked pink, my wagon could resemble an STi from the outside, but, actually transforming it into an STi, though possible, is ridiculously pointless.

However, I still would like the transmission from an STi.

I like how clean your GC8 is, Legendary.

Just getting a manual gearbox would be an improvement for yours :P.

Thank you, there is a thread on it for anyone interested :).

Considering we didn't get wagon STis it isn't entirely pointless.

Turning it into a WRX would be completely, utterly, entirely stupid but going completely mad with it would be perfectly fine... If you could afford to.

 That is a good point, but, my point is to learn things, and go to autocross/time-attack events.

So, my real goals are simple: make a nice, daily-driving Impreza wagon, that stops/turns well, and has decent "go." Nothing too serious. However, it'll be on Brembo brakes, with suspension mods, etc., so it'll be like a WRX STi, in a way.
