Judging by his sig I think he's butthurt @ the thought of an "inferior car" keeping up with and/or beating a hp beast, (in any scenario). I mean, how many people need to point out that 600hp can't really be put to use in the real world? (especially for tards running racing suspension setups on their street machine's) It's funnier to see it happen in person.. say when a 1.6L Miata, (on coilovers alone), starts putting down equal or better autoX numbers on a really technical layout. I've seen Vette drivers get disgusted & go home.

Lol at this. Because he said he kept up with twin turbo 911's in his boxter and added that they 'probably had race suspension' Either they don't know how to drive at all or its complete bs. A 911 handles better than a boxter. We aren't talking about a generic car (ie Chevy Impala) with just a ton of HP. 911's have great handling. I've never raced and gotten beat by an "inferior car" like you said, so keep dreaming. BTW my Z06 has beaten cars that had more HP.

modified 911s were probably set-up way too stiff and just bumped and bucked instead of actually handling well.

I didn't say they had race suspension, a 911T, particularly a 997T is a pretty stiff car anyway. Now if they were modified to have that much power, I imagine the chassis and suspension wasn't left untouched.

As I said before, I didn't say 911's were bad handling cars, but a Boxster has way more accessible performance, and has sharper turn in than a 911.

A Boxster is narrower than a 911, and on roads like this that matters. This isn't about any willywaving drag racing or racing on track, this is on about real world performance where in reality 300bhp is more than you'll ever need.

If you give the same person the keys to a 911 with 600bhp, and a standard Boxster and tell them to drive each car along the same road as fast as they can (or are willing to) they will go faster in the 911.

You give the Boxster to a superior driver, and the 911 to an inferior driver. Guess who's going to win.
Just because the guy has a modified car with tonnes of power and torque doesn't mean he knows how to drive it. And besides, as no one knows what modifications were hiding under the body of the 911 you can't really speculate.

But in most cases on narrow twisty roads good handling will beat power. But the 911 has both.

Evo, did a comparison test a few years ago, they had a novice and an experienced track driver each set lap times in a 911 Carrera and a Boxster S. Both drivers were faster in the Boxster.

911 twin turbo vs Boxter not = 911 vs Boxster S. And hard to believe someone who was an expert drove slower in a 911.

I have the magazine in front of me, I'm not making it up. I'm going to leave this thread now and save myself from any hassle.

I think he does have the base engine/don't remember anything to note otherwise. That said.. there're plenty of back roads around me that're tight enough that it probably wouldn't make a difference. Having lived in FL for some time I don't think I've ever seen a road down there that'd give the slower car a chance in hell, lol. (or in other words, even the "curvy" rural stuff = a boring Sunday drive!)

Wow, that makes about as much sense as saying an Accent is faster than an FD. (at anything.. no matter the tires) Did you bounce a couple times when yo mama popped you out? Also FWIW, factory fogs tend to rather low performance from my experience. (especially on dated cars) If the pictured Subie were mine & that wound up being the case, they'd get replaced with higher quality units. But again, your posts never cease to amaze me.. even for a 19yo! :boggled:

No, I was never dropped as a child, thanks for the kindness.

My friend's not the best of drivers (he did end up spinning, and destroying a cone... and his front bumper...)

And the Nankang tires are garbage.

And his RX-7 FD was built by a Japanese guy who watched Initial D; almost the same body kit, etc. as in Initial D, with crap tires and a terrible amount of handling problems. It got to the point where the RX-7 needed me as a passenger, to weigh down the passenger side equally with the driver's side.

Again, it's perfectly logical, given the circumstances, that I'd be faster, in a mint Hyundai Accent.

I have been karting/racing for my entire life. Everyone was shocked to see a Hyundai Accent doing as well as it did. I was only a few seconds off of the STis etc.

My friend works at a Wal-Mart, and prefers drifting over going fast. :ouch: Y u no get better job for more tires?

But, indeed, I'll do my best to find the results; they were e-mailed to me, or something. One second.

Edit: e-mailed the clerk of the course & last year's overall champion. He'll hopefully get me a results link.

Which would be why I'd plan an upgrade.. similarly, the factory driving lights found on FD's are absolute garbage/basically just added weight. I left them only for aesthetics, since most came with them & thus they just looked "right".

I might upgrade them in a few months time when we're actually heading back to the cooler months...it's early days of summer and there'll be no sign of fog for ages yet :sly:

Aside from personalised plates which I'll probably be ordering next week, next mod's probably either going to be new springs or I'll saving like absolute heck for some new "shoes and soles," so to speak. Still hung up on which style of wheel I want to go for but I'm actually thinking of pushing the price ratio towards tyres rather than wheels. While unsprung weight is obviously a factor, as a daily driver that won't see any track work I reckon the extra cash on going for forged wheels would be better spent getting some better rubber to go round them.

Sounds like a pretty good plan Murcie_LP640. 👍

MrMelancholy15, don't waste our time posting the results, if that's your plan after locating them. All you said before was that it had cheap tires/completely left out that it was destroyed by the previous retard owner. (which sadly, is typically the case when it comes to FD's) Again, that thing should have never been racing, (or probably even driven to the track :scared:), and like InitialD.. is no doubt a disgrace to such a legendary car. :yuck:

PS - your replies continue to hurt our eyes & brain, not to mention waste space, bandwidth etc. it'd be a service to the thread, (and site as a whole), if you'd just stop!

These derogatory comments will only exacerbate things, so it may be a service to the thread if you ended this as well.

Make sure you stick to your word on that, masonholmes. This is your one warning.

Abusive comments are against the AUP you agreed to when joining GTP.

... thanks for the kindness.

With all due respect, quit cluttering this thread (which is for everyone's car), with back-and-forth will-I-or-won't-I about your car already, you have your own car thread already.

Thanks,

By less than 3 inches & with a bunch of novice drivers driving on the back roads, that's not going to mean diddly piss because I don't believe for a second you or the other drivers could tell any significant difference.

What you ran into was a bunch of 911TT owners who didn't know how to push their cars to the limit. If they did, the narrowness of the cars would have near zero effect on the outcome. With roads that narrow though, they were probably right to not push their cars too fast. A road like that isn't impossible for a 600Bhp 911TT run away from a Boxster on, but it certainly requires a hell of a driver.

Evo, did a comparison test a few years ago, they had a novice and an experienced track driver each set lap times in a 911 Carrera and a Boxster S. Both drivers were faster in the Boxster.
The only thing that proves is a Boxster is easier to begin in than the 911, but no one disputed that to begin with. It's also a pretty silly thing to place the top of the line Boxster against the base 911 & claim the Boxster is faster. That's like saying a 1 Series is faster than a 3 Series because you put a 135i against a 328i.

In reality, with a professional driver familiar with both cars, he will be quicker in a 911; the car is just that much quicker & better set up. Had this been a Cayman, I'd be more inclined to agree with you since that's a car that was held back, or hell, a newer Boxster.

Spoken by someone who has no experience with that kind of power to begin with.

600whp+ (700+ on nitrous), running 7.5 in the quarter (9 second all day off the bottle), & yet daily driven every day, no issues. It all comes down to proper suspension & tire setup, along with proper throttle control. Only morons build up big power & leave everything else alone.

Uhmm, I didn't say 600hp cars can't be daily driven, I meant you couldn't actually make use of ALL that power without a track.. especially on a small back road and/or technical autoX layout. Considering three other people had pointed out the exact same & I expanded upon such in my autoX scenario reference, I really didn't expect anybody would come along and misinterpret that one. :odd: If you're saying you can make use of ALL 600hp+ in public, I sure as hell am glad I don't live nearby! :scared:👍

EDIT - you probably will be able to get a little more of it down than most cars, considering yours is as big as a house & weighs as much as an elephant, but still..

Except you can make use of all that power. Again, it's about proper setup. This car hooks out of the hole; it has to, to run 9 seconds consistently. On the street, the tires would break traction if they were cold & you tried to floor it to 30-40mph. Otherwise, half throttle from a stop into 2nd & then you can go from there wide open.

600Hp isn't even considered that fast here. Most of the big power guys are running 900-1100Whp in C6 Vettes, Gallardos, Vipers, & Supras, and most see regular street use without issue & they all put the power down no problem thanks to how they're setup & with good throttle control. The Gallardos don't really have that latter issue because in 1-4th, they're only making 7-900whp, & don't build the rest til' 5th gear.

The only issue these guys have is the legal side of it, but beyond that, yes, they can & do make use of all that power on the road.

The topic originally revolved around curvy roads with few and/or short enough straights that an upgraded 911T couldn't use them to run away from a Boxster & then I added really tight/technical autoX layouts. (or in other words, areas you probably won't get anywhere near 5th gear in such cars) Sorry, but nothing with 1000hp's going to be able to fully utilize it in such situations either, no matter the setup or driver. (and anybody careless enough attempt it, off a track, should have their licenses revoked!) We're obviously talking about parallel universes or something. Anyways, my last reply to this ridiculousness as well.

Haha! This is exactly how they reacted when we got to the end of the back road we were driving. The point was they couldn't comprehend what just happened. Its because the road was so tight and twisty that they couldn't get out of second gear just like an auto cross track. So there wasn't much room for them to get the boost up and if they did by that time it was time too hit the brakes for the next apex. As for my boxster I was mostly close too redline that I had most of my 200hp at my disposal after every apex. The only time they would get away was at short streches where they would get out of 2nd gear and get full boost so they would be gone at about ten car lengths but was easy enough for me to catch up after another 5 to 6 corners in the twisty bits.

Its important to remember that no matter how good they are in their 911TT its still a lot harder to catch the rearend of a rear engine car than a mid engine Boxster when you loose it at the corner of a tight twisty road with a 40 ft. drop and a lot more expensive for them to make that mistake. As for me a midengine boxster with a lower center of gravity with the top down is easier to drive and more forgiving at the corners when you make a mistake by loosing the backend. Plus it helps to know that my car only cost me $14k so crashing it won't hurt as much as $120k plus all the mods they spent. Just like driving in GT5 game its still a lot less fear factor. Cheers! Believe it or not.

Just stop, please. You seem to be talking about things you don't have much knowledge on.

I laughed. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaard.

Care to post some form of proof that it runs 7.50s?

Ain't gonna happen. You can cheat physics but you can't cheat them that hard.

Some of the fastest cars in the whole U.S. decend or meet in Texas where McLaren lives FYI. And running high shot of nitrous can easily get a 9 second car into the 7's.

...Just stop, please. You seem to be talking about things you don't have much knowledge on.

I have knowledge on autoX & if that thing's got 1000hp, there's no way it could use it all on a super tight layout. (as in ones where those wings would barely come into play) But yea.. this is stupid, the-end. (for real this time :P)

Wouldn't call it easily seeing as you'd kinda need somewhere around an extra 4-500hp at MINIMUM to run mid-7s given the weight of the car, and considering that car doesn't have enough tire to hook all that well at those power levels (i.e. it isn't tubbed), it'd need more than that.

So yes, let's take a boosted small-block and then add 5-700hp of nitrous to it. Lemme know how that works out.
