350/700R4. If I recall correctly, it's got a K&N mounted to the throttlebody, a cam, headers and cat-less exhaust.

Is yours stock?

I also very nearly bought a '91 GTA as well... But I decided that a clutch & proper upkeep for my daily driver are more important.

It has an SLP airbox and catback. Other than that, all stock. I've done some suspension work done to it, but nothing major, just Tokico struts, beefier springs, and poly bushings. It will have a T56 six speed before long. I've started collecting the parts to do the swap. It's not as fun with the 700R4 as it used to be.

Have any pics of your brother's?

Not on hand, no.

The good: Tinted windows, dual 3" exhaust out the back, it's red.

The bad: The red is fading on the hood and roof, and he kinda smucked a median with the passenger rear quarter... So it's creased. I think he should weld in a new quarter and prep it, then have the whole car painted. He thinks the existing quarter can be repaired.

Anyway, I think he's thought about selling it. Not sure what his decision is, though.

Wow. I just realized my last post in this thread was 6 years ago! Anyway, i currently own a 92 honda civic hatchback. I like.

I have lots of stuff i'm planning to do, but it requires moneys lol.

My ride is a 1994 Holden VR Commodore Ute S pack. It's the sport version of a V6 Commodore Ute and I plan on modifying it both visually a little and performance wise. There's a pic of it in my avatar too.

Interior pics FTW!

OK, here's my baby. That soft tonneau cover will be replaced by a fibreglass hard tonneau and the roll bars/ladder racks will dissappear. That gap between the tray lining and body will be filled one day too- you'll see. It will also be lowered, get bucket seats and a whole host of performance mods. If I can ever afford it I will get bigger rims too but these ones are fine for the moment.

Stats (as default, I'll say more when I get it tuned and a dyno run)
Power: 130kw @ 5000rpm
Torque: 300Nm @ 3000rpm
Weight: 1360kg
Engine: Buick 3.8L V6 longitudinally mounted. (North to South)
Drive: RWD
Transmission: 5spd Manual

OK, here's my baby. I would show an interior pic, but I don't have a sports steering wheel and wanna wait til I do. That is a cool ute! I see a lot of potential to make this into a mean machine. What are some of the specs of your car?

Thanks, unfortunately it's not a V8. It's a Buick 3.8L V6, the same that's in a GNX only this one is naturally aspirated. It makes 130kw and 300Nm stock. The cars weighs around 1380kg. I'm sorry that's all metric measurements pretty much. Here are some rough imperial measurements.
Power: 174 hp
Torque: 222 lb ft
Weight: 3036 pounds

If we could assume there was no power loss over time mine would make a little more with the K&N Air Filter, Iridium spark plugs, Top Gun Ignition Leads and an over the radiator cold air intake it has equipped. Top speed is somewhere in the vicinity of 200km/hr stock and the stock 1/4 mile time is roughly a flat 16sec pass, maybe a high 15sec pass.

The CAI might add 5hp... Maybe.

The other stuff? Most likely a waste of money, the plugs the biggest waste. (Autolites are cheap and they work good. Hell, my dad [GM guy] uses them in everything he can. Dunno if you can get them down under or not, but they're Ford plugs)

Are you kidding? The plugs and leads help achieve better ignition and even better fuel economy. And the K&N Air Filter you just can't argue with, helps the car breathe better, more power better economy. Even in good ol' GT4 you buy an Exhaust and air filter. I wish I could put it on a dyno for free and get power at the flywheel tested. Just to see how much it has lost over the years. Anyway- at the moment I get an average of 10L/100km fuel economy. That's another spec I forgot to mention.

The plugs and leads aren't doing anything for you, and the only thing the K&N is doing (if it's a factory replacement style) is giving you an air filter that can be cleaned instead of replaced.

Of course, I've seen people SWEAR that an MSD coil is worth 5-10hp. And an MSD distributor is another 5, etc.

You are getting a full 23mpg, but I know of a Park Avenue that manages 30mpg on the highway. With a Buick 3800 (190hp stock, it's a bit more refined than the 3.8 that Holden badged as a 3800 in your car) and in an overall heavier car. (Near as makes no difference, 4000lbs)

Sorry if all the imperial measurements confused you. And I'm not trying to argue, just trying to get my point across.

One last thing: New plugs vs old, carbon-covered jobs, yes, there is a difference. But there is so little difference between a bog standard Autolite, AC Delco, etc. plug and the new Iridium or Bosch plugs that they are a waste of money.

The plugs are hardly a waste of money if they last 5 times longer. 100 000km warranty. And K&N air filter does improve power, they've proved it. Plus I will never have to buy a filter again so no matter what it's a saving. ;) Can I also ask what year model the Park Avenue is? Remeber the Buick V6s lasted to the VY in Oz labelled as an Ecotec. 10L/100km is an average of all the driving I do, which involves steep hills, highway driving and city driving.

Edit: Next up on the list is visual mods mostly, but then I will be moving on to a power chip and Lukey Exhaust/Extractors(also known as headers)/Performance Muffler. After that it's whatever I decide, but that's the current plan- subject to change.

Park Ave is a 1990 H-body. So it's an early-production 3800 (Series 1) (Or is it considered a C-body? I can't remember... They're the same excluding the C pillar)

Hmm? The plugs have a 62,000 mile (100k km) warranty? Then start checking them for carbon buildup every 10k km or so... And get new ones whenever there is. :D I'm surprised though...

Nice, your ute is pretty light compared to other cars. Is it a stick shift?

I can't believe I've never posted here... but then again, I don't really care... but since I'm bored out of my skull...

At least it's a Ford and doesn't have the ugly Mazda badge on it. Sorry, I don't like Mazdas. I take it that is a FWD car?

Edit: Alright guys, I just decided that come 23rd March I shall buy a sports steering wheel for my Ute. Then I will come with some interior pics. 23rd March is my 18th Birthday and I will get $200 to buy a wheel with.

FWD. Yup. Mazda engine, though...

Been called a "front-wheel drive BMW" by more than a few motoring hacks. Guess it's about right... it understeers about as much as a beemer... :D

My SEAT Toledo se. A bit like a jetta i suppose, certainly got a few vw parts under the bonnet ;) Just got some new AEZ alloys for it :) (not brilliant image quality sorry)

You ever ran the 1/4 mile in it? What torque does it make?

Does about 15.6 to 15.8 on a fried clutch and with little tuning (stock is supposedly 16 to 16.5). Don't know what it does now (have had a lot of exhaust work done since then), but I'm pretty sure it should hit 15 flat. Anything below that is probably wishful thinking.

Stock is about 142 ft-lbs. Might be making 10 more, but you can't squeeze blood from a stone... only way to make more torque on this lump without a turbo is to go stroker, and the engine is already under-square... going stroker would just put more stress on the rods.

It's a ****ty engine... still isn't fast enough for me, but I love the car.

Interesting, my Ute is meant to run a 16 flat stock supposedly and it starts with 130kw and 300Nm, plus it's RWD. Then again, my standard ecu sucks big time above 100km/hr. Give me a power chip and a sports exhaust and I'll be hitting the track to see what it does.
Tom_IW_Racer, that's an........inteteresting car, not to my taste really but hey, it's not ugly. :dopey: Is that your first car?

Nah its my second, had a seat ibiza before... but the toledo is a reasonably large car for a 19 year old in England, plus its not too common which i like ;)

Shouldn't be hard... and, lucky you... lots of speed shops down under to raid...

I'd say quick quarters could be done fairly easily with a Unichip (or a Microtech... built in Australia, right? Lots of people say good things about it...) and maybe an exhaust cut-out (or a pair of these) as a quick means of ensuring full exhaust scavenging on the track... hehehe...

You could also try the Mythbusters idea... they've found that on some pickups, a tailgate net (with the tailgate removed) will produce less drag than a tonneau cover... probably something to do with vortices.

Man, a big 3.8 V6? there's tons of potential in there from good headwork alone.

Did they test a soft toneau, I'll get a hard one some day- the air will just blow over the top like it does on a sedan roof. I'll be getting a Lukey exhaust system (I think that's Australian too?) And I can't remember which chip I'm getting, my brother told me of a good one but I can't remember what it's called- stupid me :sly:

They tested a hard bed cover, tailgate down, tailgate up (no cover) and tailgate removed with a net. Turns out a tailgate net has less overall drag (indirectly measured by measuring how much fuel is used to maintain the same speed on the same road in the same conditions, with an accurate fuel flow meter). Dunno why, but the additional turbulence caused likely disconnects the turbulent "wake" from the rear of the vehicle, lessening drag, overall. Don't know if it applies to all pickups, either... but considering your Ute isn't aerodynamically designed as a unit (in other words, there's no special aero treatment to the trailing edge of the cabin), it might have the same effect.

You might also want to look into experimentation with Vortex generators. They're of dubious use on a sedan or hatchback, but on a vehicle with square edges, they're supposedly useful, and are designed to do the same thing.

Might shave just 0.05 seconds off the quarter mile... but every little bit helps, right?
