True... Just wish it were not limited to the recommended list. We miss out on some truly great cars.

Just a thought SKEL.....but its seems when cars have to be tuned down they arnt as fast....(assuming muscle cars are all over 440pp)

When cars are tuned up, drop wieght, better results are achieved.

Its a "stock vs. Tuned" argument.

The 54 & 63 vette are tuned UP to 440pp. I was hitting upper 33's @ T. Mt. with the 69 vette convertible. which is tuned down from 460pp. I've I already mentioned I don't like using the engine limiter that much, but probably going to anyway since the 54 & 63 vettes didn't work out. I was hoping you guys weren't going to be this good!

And since I won't be using the 54, I don't care what tire compounds we use.

That was fun Sat. nite. I won't be in attendance this coming Sat-out of town.
Agro was reeeeally quick, I could hit mid 34's w/draft but that was it. I like the 2000GT, wanna see how a different tune on the Z is before ruling it out though.

Like Agroracer said, the best mod is the driver-mod. Practice, practice, practice. I've found I'm pretty conservative in a race-just try to keep a consistent line and look out for troubles.

This is the first time I've tried to race any car in GT5 that was limited to below the stock PP, and it's really throwing me off. I'm gonna have to try the Z28 and see how that goes. If anyone feels it gives an unfair advantage, I'll be happy to switch back to the SS. I'll set up a Z28 tonight and give it a few runs.

Well, it appears all my online racing experience has gotten my driving style adapted to using available extra power to make up for any flaws in my lines. My best lap so far at the Mt. Is 1:34.9. Admittedly, I started with a full-tune suspension setup on an under-tuned Z28, but I don't see me running away with the lead any time soon, so I'm sticking with the Z for the time being.

Add: if it's still up for discussion, I still feel that the race tires offer overkill traction for this PP level, I honestly keep checking to make sure I've got TCS turned off. If the majority prefers these tires, I have no problem with using them, but if it's up for vote, I prefer a less gripy compound.

My point was only that none of the standard cars are in the list, so it becomes hard to guarantee all participants in such a single-make race were equally prepared (i.e. Stock).

I raced a small series that used oly the 60 Art Morrison Vette from the recommended list. That was fun and as equal as it can be. If you guys can find a car to lock in from the recommended list that doesn't push like a pig, I'll sign up for that.
If you guys want to try running the same car with our own tunes, I think a version of the Camero cup would be nice. Just one Camero type for everybody. The Camero LM race car is the easiest to drive, needing only 2 or 3 clicks softer on the front springs and brakes set to your preference. The 10' Camero from the new car dealer with the race mod added w/ engine tuning 2 and everything else. I have a base tune that I did in about 5 min. that is fun to drive, moves around enough to reward good driving and is easy to find for everybody. If I'm on your friends list, you might find one in your mail when I hit 20,000,000 and have to go shopping.

I can't find the old 240Z and after 2 days of trying to "trigger" the used car garage, I've given up.
My Vette engine clearly isn't working like Skelletor's Covertible Vette. I ran many clean laps back to back while watching the fast cars pull away and within a few hundredths of an RS200 at TM.

I have 5 or 6 Honda S2000 type V's that are fun around 460PP. I could send a few around If people need them. The Elan S1 is fun and was in the online dealer this week as well.

How bout we finish this series, then work on our next big project ehh? :P

Anyways, as for tires, I don't quite understand what you mean. I still find myself sliding around a lot, and wish for some kinda psudo-TC to magically turn on and fix me when I'm sideways.

I suppose my traction complaint has more to do with my car choice and the way it's powerband is effected with the limiter. As I said, no big deal, it's gonna be some fun racing regardless.👍

I agree. I think the problem with the Camaro is that it pushes really hard at the lower power levels, and you don't have the horsepower to spin it around with the rear wheels.

But again, I wouldn't have a problem raising tire restrictions. You guys just need to make a decision and go with it.

I think I am going to make a poll with the three current options in contention (RM,RH,SS)

got both the Z and the Z28 with 3.5 tenths of each other at Tsukuba. im sure i can make a few more tweaks and it should be right up there with the Z. MUDD add me as a friend and ill help with tuning

anyone notice that lap times are slower while racing online or in the lounge vs. practice (not online) i guessing its because tire wear is set on and traction is set to REAL.

Also after driving the BEEP out of the camaro.....it is slower, but not by much. if a 6 speed could be installed it would be fine.

Yes, I think everyone has experienced this. That is why I only tune my cars in public online rooms or my own private lobby. I like my cars on the edge of out of control. Tuning in single player practice that way, then go online with it, and it's completely out of controll and undrivable. I don't think anyone really knows the actual reason for this. Just get used to it and accept it.

What about seasonals?

Ok. I tried to take a look at the poll to make sure everyone who voted was actually part of this series, as there aren't generally 9 people that are active in this thread, I can't figure out how, which leads me to the question: How do I take it down when we've reached a consensus?

I think the seasonals use offline physics, though I have not tested it myself. It just seems like my cars are always a bit faster in there.

Oh, I didn't realize the poll was up, it doesn't show on my phone, so now there's 10 votes.:D

Not sure how to close it, honestly never managed my own thread.

I hope we go with a lesser compound tire. loosen up the cars a bit. Love driving it with the throttle. May even help those muscle cars to get those back ends to move around and actually turn.

"The idea behind this series is to emulate the production groups run by the SCCA"- from J's original series description.

Since this was J's original intention for this series, then slicks should be run. Nice of J to be open for options but aren't these supposed to be dedicated track cars?

I voted for RH since they still allow for some slipping around. Looks like they are loosing in the poll though! Oh well.

I agree with JL's attempt for the realistic tires and the slicks match the best, but we are at the mercy of PD's online physics and the slicks at some times seem unrealistic in the way the hold. By that I mean with this particular PP/Tire combo and looking at the drivetrain upgrades with the HP and torque I have available, I dont feel that I am using as much throttle control as I should be. That of course, is just opinion and as I've stated before, the minute JL posts the decided tire choice, regardless of which one, I'll be happy with it and you'll hear nothing more about it from me.👍

I will add, racing hards would make a fair compromise, but I think everyone is just voting for their preferred choice and the original tire discussion was RM vs SS

I kinda figured we'd get this result lol

Mudd you'd be surprised. It is amazing at how the grip level changes when you throw on some slicks. I had the opportunity to drive an E-Type Jag with slicks (not even the P-Zeros) and with just that I was taking corners at speeds comparable to my Spitfire (In a car that weighed twice as much!) As much as everyone says it kills realism, I still have to say that from my own experience they are spot on, and honestly a more realistic choice for racing than the sports softs. Barring the muscle cars as they would be in a different class altogether, at this level of preparation these cars would be somewhere around an E-Production level in which those guys would call you crazy if you tried to run street/treaded tires.

That's a fair statement, and can not say that I've ever driven '69 Camaro on a track with slicks installed, so I'll believe what your telling me. :D I'm done voicing my opinions on the tire's, whatever is chosen is fine. Looking forward to some racing now.

Have I mentioned yet that they don't have white walls on racing slick tires?

Just kidding, since I figured out that the 54 vette itsn't competitve, I probably won't be running it. Maybe it will be on ss tires. I might give it another try. But honestly, whatever tire compound is fine with me. Since the purpose of this series is to mimic SCCA, then slicks would be the better choice. We got some really good drivers in this league, so I'm really not worried about it.

Again, I appologize for bringing it up in the first place.

It's cool man. I'm fine trying whatever you guys want to try. Besides, there are still two more preseason events to work with.

RH. Stick with the SCCA theme. I run with SCCA in real life. That's why I join this series. But I'm game for what ever. I just hope we get a big turn out

What do you run Agro? I don't think I've actually asked.

I run in a local autocross club and a few time trial events when I can at any of the new england road tracks. All run by SCCA. Street modified class, 2003. 350z. And 9 hp 4 stroke karts just about every weekend and practice during the week. Just got a new kart this week. Havnt run the Z to much this year cause it needed an over haul. Got a new stock motor for it. Gonna start running again in the fall. Next year going for my club comp lic.
