First of all, thanks a lot to the OLR team for organising this and putting the divisions together so quickly. Great work.

Genuinely shocked I'm in Div 1 Gold although I'm really pleased with it. :D Like Lin said, I knew that I lost time on certain corners which is why I didn't think I could get into div 1 gold because tenths of a second is what decides the sub divisions. I welcome the pressure to produce times worthy of my division every week. Roll on week 1. :D:tup:

Well... it's very easy to point a gun at the cashier at the liquor store, too. Are you going to do that? ;)

No, but lots of people do.

That’s what i wantend to say, Douqa.

Do the higher division drivers use mostly bumper cam to get those quick times?

Obviously practice (seat time) is important too?

Just wondering eh :)

Cockpitview for me. Means i don’t use standard cars much

Only questions I have is this: given that all of this is very well planted in statistical analysis, I'm worried that some of the very, very fast guys didn't bother to submit for this qualifier. I haven't gone back and looked at pure numbers but I see people like Timo, Maz, Carl, Timeattack, etc that didn't participate. Forgive me because my background isn't in statistics, but wouldn't their lack of particpation skew the "theoretical" fastest time as well as the overall standard deviation to the point where a good number of us ended up in divisions above where we should be?

Thanks for the warm thoughts guys, but I know for sure that the times Nicko, Hugo etc. posted are really, really true D1G times. No need to worry about that!! For example, we need to remember that Ramon submitted too, and you can see his performance on the last PAL academy for reference if there is any doubt how fast these times are. It was a little bit different to normal hotlap this time, but still the same for all.

Great to see so many submissions, and I can't wait to get mine there too. :)

I run roof cam. I dislike the amount of movement in bumper cam and cockpit view feels disconected (strange as I spent years racing cockpit view in pc sims.) I also find roof cam can see over cars in front which makes it easier for me to race. But sadly with no rearview mirror it also makes it hard lol.

I use chase cam for learning circuits. Once I've got it grained in to memory, I switch to bumper cam.

I'll use cockpit cam on Endurances, just to have something else to look at. After about 2-3 hours I can just about match bumper cam times.

Just do what's comfortable to you. I wouldn't say any one camera is quicker than the other, we will all have slight preferences. I think close racing is easier in bumper cam to remain clean.

I'm happy with D4B for my first shot at it! I'm not very fast at Nurburgring anyways..so hopefully my circuit driving will be better.

So, is it appropriate for me to add the other members of my division to my PSN friends list so that I can race against 'em? I haven't gone ahead and added many GTP'ers yet, because I don't know what convention is...

Tim

I really think im going to drop down during the first few weeks since I fancy nurburgring as my favourite and best track and i could only manage D2 bronze :(

maybe I set too high a standard for myself and since this is my first one I should be happy. Had NO IDEA there was so many freaks out there!!

At least I beat you ken (aka: mafiaboy) lol. Glad you actually submitted a time was getting worried there you were cutting it fine!

I am comfortable in cockpit view (unless its raining-I'll switch to roof cam); I usually let other drivers know so that they know I do have blind spots (mics help there too!) :)

Good evening.

I can honestly say, without any doubt, that I'm the lousiest driver in Div 1.

What i do is:
- study the track layout
- watch videos looking for different racing lines
- make priorities out of the corners

On sector 2, you have some late apex corners, you need to turn in very late, in order to maximize your straightaway speed.
Don't be afraid to brake a little earlier. You will gain time with a faster speed on the straights.

I wish I had found that PDF before running the sectors..probably would have gotten a few seconds off my time!

Found it this afternoon. :P

As long as you don't touch the grass at the exit of parabolica i am sure you will be fine Timo... :sly:

It's been too long since i raced many of you online, was good to see you there Timo, and i hope many of the fast guys who didn't submit yet, will do so in the future and will race online aswell... 👍👍

Alright folks. This may be a stupid question. But I'm new to the WRS.
I have created a GTP_username and got some funds and whatnot.
Now I understand that the registry is closed.
In order to get started in all this, can I still get practicing on my nurburgring registry laptimes for when the registry is open again? As the qualifier will remain the same (or will it change)?
Thanks in advance. I'm sure this has probably been asked prior but I have browsed and can't find the answer.

Yes that would be the best thing to do. The qualifier won't change.

You may be the lousiest but I bet I'm the slowest.

I meant no disrespect to the D1 Gold guys that did show up - they are indeed the fastest of the fast and I can only dream of joining them someday on top that mountain. 👍

Haha, yeah well there you go - the results of my very little seat time! :D But it was fun and in the coming weeks I hopefully can start to drive a little bit more. It's about a year now since the last Academy and I really haven't driven after it properly. (..and the latest factor is the back that is giving me hard time, should still avoid sitting as much as possible. It's going in better direction though so It's just a matter of time 👍 ) So I guess it's a natural thing to be a bit rusty :P

But I can't wait to get back to racing with you all. The last resort will be a DS3.. :dopey:

The handicap system is a new tool for us, and we're not sure exactly how it will work out, so bear with us as we figure it out.

As with earlier versions of the WRS, you won't be dropped a division unless you request it.
Your handicap will adjust over time, but whether it moves when you are promoted, at each promotion interval (roughly every 3 months), or every week is yet to be determined.
For Prologue, we had one list for division results, and another for overall results. For GT5, we'll be adding a third which takes handicap into account somehow. I'm still working out the details. Whether this appears in the Leader Boards is yet to be determined.

Very nice.👍

Fixed that for you Paulie, I actually thought I was quicker than you for a moment.

Hey, PASM beat me in a GTP Div.2 Race Event once, and beat me to D1, he was always faster, therefore my statement couldn't have been sarcasm.:sly:

I'm the same as you mate. (just changed my sig to match) Cockpit cam all the way! Even in rain! :scared: Dont really care if different views are quicker, cockpit cam is the most realistic by far. Use it everywhere... a spec, online, WRS.. I sometimes use chase cam, but only if I'm taking a car out to take photos of. So that doesnt really count.

I tried bumper cam once or twice, but having a point of view from the exact centre of every car kind of made the experience a little weird for me. I'm used to compensating for the width of the car from the drivers seat, like I do every day on the way to work or whatever.

Glad to know there are others out there keeping it real though  Hope to see you online this weekend dude 👍

I enjoy using the cockpit view, and have been known to drive around the 'Ring, in the rain, in the dark, with all the aids turned off (incl ABS), and all the on-screen displays off. It's a very immersive experience, with only the actual car gauges to go on, you have to think about the gears more (if you're in a car that has no gear number indicator), and of course use physical markers for braking points. It's the closest to driving a real car on track I can manage in GT5.

However, for chasing a good time I tend to switch to bumper cam, as I used it through GT3 and GT4 and I'm kind of used to it, even though I can get quite close times with the cockpit view.

Agreed, cockpit view with everything off for having fun (Le Sarthe in the dark + rain in 908 is amazing) and bumper for chasing times, as I feel the cockpit view is a bit delayed opposed to bumper view and the sense of speed is also not great in cockpit view

Of course I forgot to mention that.. For the ultimate cockpit experience I always turn the HUD off and set the POV to narrow. Sometimes when racing online I put the HUD back on to keep an eye on my sectors, but otherwise all I see on screen is the car and the road.. What more could you want 👍

As for driving at night in the rain at Nurburg... Its erm.... Intense!! Absolutely loved it though. Straining my eyes to see the road, straining my ears to hear the engine, and straining my talent to its limits!

Cockpit cam is king. I would never drive any other way since it was implimented in prologue.

Figured since we have this new handicap system, Might as well display it in the sig as well lol

I find this interesting because i do the same, and we wound up in the same division with an almost identical handicap, I wonder how many others in D2 bronze do the same?

I just find it much more immersive, especially at Nordschleife if you were doing it in real life you wouldn't have a map and a hud with times etc on it.

You were damn quick on Tuesday night.

Spy has passed the control line in first place. Ad infinitum.

It'd be a nice to know what everyone around you was using for sure. Doesnt really bother me though. Its not like I think others have an advantage using bumper cam, after all its my choice not to use it. Like you I prefer the immersiveness of cockpit cam. I'd rather be Div2 with it than Div1 without it. (not like I could ever be Div1 )
