When you shift with the paddles, the time for the whole gear shift is not simply the button click. If you watch the throttle, you'll see a red blip as you shift gears with the paddles. When you shift with the shifter, and only if you are really good at it, the time from full throttle to full throttle is less than the red blip you see with paddle shifting.

If you had looked at some of the top 10 replays in GT5P you could clearly see that using the clutch was faster than using the paddles.

Most probably all of the top times on the time trial leaderboards in GT5 Prolouge were set using the clutch. It was nigh impossible (unless your name was D. Holland or some such) to set a top ten time even without it. It is probably not any different in GT5.

Hi my name is Daniel. I'm new to WRS just wanted to say that I'm glad nurburgring has been selected for the qualifiers. :)

Well for now ill have to take your word for it as im in the middle of FormulaGT and i wont get to finish it tonight. :nervous: But ill have to test this theory out.

And there is also the slipping clutch effect if I'm correct (judging by the sound), that will give that little bit of extra acceleration.

Don't mind the "cheat" part on the vid name.. that is a different matter alltogether. But this is the result of maximized clutch usage in gt5p.

Maybe a little bit better vid:

Pay attention to the throttle bar.

Hey, If you register for the WRS, are you then expected to participate every week ?

The reason I ask, Is that I would like to participate but my work load wary quiet a lot from week to week, so I will not always be able to participate every week, and from time to time there might be several weeks in a row where I can’t participate.

Is that okay, or shouldn’t I register?

@ maximus0743

If you are interested even a bit, hop in. More people, more merrier racing. :)

A stick can shift gears faster then paddles??? I have a G27 and I would have said the exact opposite. Plus you are more likely to mis-change a gear. Not that I care either way, but I must say I was curious as well

I don't think you can do as it shows in the top video, if you have throttle when clutching into a new gear it just stays in neutral. However this throttle-to-throttle being faster than paddle could be possible i guess, i'll have to give it a try (not for wrs) - i mostly drive with the clutch just when i'm messing about, and trying to be fast often results in misgearing leaving it in N.

Can the event be ran even at level 0?

The link in the GT5 Online Forum does not indicate "NEW" posts. Please fix this.

I created a redirect in the GT5 forum for people who do not frequent this area.

This is the home for the WRS, so if you want to see "New" posts, this is where you have to look.

It's visible from the main page of the forums, all you have to do is scroll halfway down.

Also the difference between cars is big, some cars like NSX'02 gains a lot of time iirc. California was a nice car as you couldn't gain anything with the clutch 👍

The above vid shows the result of using a "cheat" that allows you to flatshift. I even Tweeted about it to Kaz.. :D Maybe that's why they asked Logitek to reprogram their hardware/software.. :P And eventually jumped to another manufacturer.. haha, most probably not!

Does that mean you can flatshift with the Logitechs in every game? I'm more disappointed that PD didn't put a fix into GT5 to disallow this - its been well known forever and doesn't exactly scream "The Real Driving Simulator" when all the top times on a leaderboard are using a loophole that circumvents reality.

I've just created a GTP_etc account - do I need to register my interest somewhere in this, or any other thread? Or do I just check out the car rules, run laps, save replay - send a PM to the designated person containing the details, etc?

Cheers!

I don't believe it means that. It's just the way the game was coded..

And there were only few guys with the "cheat".. Not many at all.

You got it Millross.

Very simple practice your sector 2 and sector 3 on the ring, save your replays for both, then when the time is right and your happy with your effort.

All you have to do is follow the clear information in the thread of how to pm them to admin. 👍

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=153734

Good luck.

Phillip.

You got it 👍 No need to register your interest, you can simply run sector 2 & 3 using your GTP account, save the replays, make sure they are driven according to the rules and send a PM with all the details to Vaxen.

Just make sure you send your PM between Jan 14th and Jan 28th.

Good luck!

Edit: Thanks Phillip for the quick assistance ;)

Welcome, its was nice to see Millross ask a straight forward question relating to the GTP_Registry discussion.

As there is a ideal place here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=112001

For any other type of help or general question.

I know this is the wrong thread but as it has come up. This so called cheat may not be so. Try watching your own replays where you're using the clutch and shifting fast. The throttle sometimes stays at full. I dont think the meters are as precise during replays as they are in game so the split second lift doesn't always show.

The clutch doesnt work in the SLS anyway.

Anyone else struggling with the lack of a ghost? I've tried picking points on the track to give me an idea of my time but thats hardly precise.

I like the NO ghost in this, because it will give a more clear division for you to be in. For me using a ghost is almost like cheating that's just my opinion. In the GT5P qualifier i used a top ten ghost, and lucked out and got into division 2 bronze. Which i know if i hadn't i would probably been in division 3. I think watching replays of fast guys is helpful, because you can watch there lines and speed. Juat my two cents worth, hope it made sense.

Yes, using a ghost is a very unrealistic way of improving your time. It can be honed to an art form in itself, and I am happy that it is not possible here. the individuals last .2 can only be found with using a ghost so this will even things a bit I think. It's resfreshing , even if I haven't even tried the qualifier yet.. (still training my boobs to get me a chance to go to Germany :P)

Good luck all, welcome to all new participants and hopefully you all will enjoy the WRS as much as I have the few times that I've ran it.. :) 👍

Due to the lack of ghost replay, I think I will give a shot to the Prima Track Guide...lets see if it helps somehow...
Good luck everyone
PS: I just realized a few hours ago that ALL CURRENT GTP_tag members have to take the qualifier as well, was I too distracted or maybe it should have been reinforced in the news tab on GTPlanet home...

GTP_ registry question.

I have a GTP PSN account - I set it up for GT5P, but never did anything with it.

I race/play 100% of the time with my regular PSN account and subsequently have nothing in my GTP account - no cars, licenses or anything.

I'll run the qualifier and submit my times so I can get slotted in the Captain Slow division, but will I have to race with my blank GTP account or will I be allowed to race with my regular PSN account?

Thanks.

You have to use your GTP account. Just gift your GTP account a car to do a seasonal event and you will be off to a flying start. Do the Citroen C4 event if you have one. 1.5mil and 120k xp

Obviously by opening this thread you are interested in the WRS but are unsure why/how to make a new GTP prefixed user name.

Q. Why do I need to make a new account?
A. It shows commitment to the WRS, if you are willing to create a new account to use (but obviously not exclusively) with the WRS, then you are willing to put effort into this excellently organised and competitive racing series.

Q. What will the WRS do for me?
A. It will make you a better (GT5) driver. Tips, advice, tuning techniques if needed are available by simply asking. Regular WRS event threads are a goldmine for advice for taking tenths of your time, if not more! But this is just a tiny part of what WRS is.

Q. Sounds good, what now?
A. You need to create your new GTP prefixed account, this should take a matter of minutes.
1, On your XMB scroll to the left and create ‘new user’. Rename it what your GTP_ account will be!
2, Log in to this account, and you will now have the option to create a new PSN id.
3, Create your new PSN account. Make sure your PSN id has the prefix of GTP_ for example my normal PSN id is dhandes, my WRS name is GTP_dhandes.
Tips, you do not need a valid email address unless you plan to buy dlc etc, via this new account. In fact, your name, address does not even have to exist.
If you set your birth date as the day you create the account, you will even be awarded with a birthday gift car!
4, Log in to PSN with your new GTP_ account and send a friend request to your normal account.
5, While still in your GTP_ account, start-up GT5 and setup your account, button configuration, racing suit colour etc.
6, Congratulations, you now have a nice shiny new GTP_ account.

Q. I have my nice shiny new GTP_ account, now what?
A. You have to run the qualifier ( details here), unfortunately it requires you to be A-Spec level 12. You have a couple of choices; either start your GT life career from scratch to gain enough XP to rank you up to level 12 at least or… Use the XP and credit rich seasonal events!

Q. Seasonal events seem to be for me, now what!?
A. There are two main routes that you can take here, either do the seasonal events from this GTP_ account from scratch or lend yourself a good eligible car (this is the fastest way).

Currently, there are two sets of seasonal events available. If your main account has a NASCAR or Citroen C4 WRC, then go to your main account and gift your GTP_ account one of these (you can always send it back when you have run the race). Win the race (due to restrictions being lifted, it’s easier than ever), with the XP award you should be up to around level 14-16, with your winnings buy the vehicles required to enter the remaining events and win these as well. You should now be on your way to A-spec level mid20’s.

If your main account doesn’t have a NASCAR or C4 WRC then, if you have a car that is available to be used in a seasonal event race, then gift that to your GTP_ account, win the race, buy the vehicles that you can afford, win them events, until you have all seasonal events won, a bucket load of cash and a healthy A-spec level.

You can now run the WRS qualifier!

Hope to see you there in the WRS.

I think someone established that while not signed in to PSN, your replay data will be saved as your username instead of your GTP_Tag PSN, so it may be a good idea to name them interchangeably. Not entirely sure if it was ever substantiated though.

FIxed.

Definitely looking forward to having a go at this. Just have to get around to setting up a GTP_ account (not a dig at the organisation of it, just my laziness).
I like the set up of the qualifier - I much prefer the events where you are given a car and drive it without tuning. That said, I'm not about to complain about any events that require tuning - others enjoy them - I will just opt not to run that week, simple.
