Well, my driving lesson was cancelled. But I still intend on driving for two hours :P Let's get my time down a few tenths :D

First splits on friday... :scared:

T1: 23.462
T2: 29.029

Really fun combo, trying to learn the track :P

Theres a trick to carry more speed through the first chicane; as you hit the bump immediately turn right, but not too harshly. Then when you land you will be pointing at the inside rumble strip which means you can get on the power earlier. I've seen 104-105mph exit speeds and i've seen 23.0xx T1 sector time. But then I always screw up the rest of the lap :grumpy:

EDIT: Aaargh!!! Beat my best time by just under 2 tenths but when I looked at the replay...

 :banghead:

My exit speed was 105mph which I have seen on clean laps before. The first sector was only 23.226, so i'd made gains elsewhere. Everytime i've cut that corner previously it has invalidated my lap. So as it didn't on this occasion, I assumed it was clean. Sadly, I don't have time to do another run now :(

New splits

T1 23.277
T2 28.870

Only took off about half a tenth with this, lost nearly a tenth in T2 and lost 2 tenths in T3. Starting to see where I have been going wrong now, but it's a 🤬 of a lap to put together. I know there is at least another 3 tenths to come off this, hope I can get it before the deadline :banghead:

So easy to get a dirty first corner, T3 needs work.

I know this is cutting it close, but this is ok, right?

Edit: I'm assuming the game would've invalidated the lap if all 4 wheels were off so I'm hoping and praying this is good.

Final splilts:
T1: 23.666
T2: 29.316
Made up about half a second on my best lap from a few days ago. I can still see where I can find a tenth but I just don't have it in me to hook up such a lap.
Off to Alton Towers for the weekend, woop!

Another edit: Attachment is a picture, not video replay.

After a reset on Lap 1 I set my new best lap time by 3 tenths...with a poor compared to my best T1. Go figure.

Phillip I finally matched your D1 like T2 you set early I might add. Dude your good.:)👍

Well done Jack, wish I was feeling upto running more laps, had two short sessions at this so far this week.

I can see you'll be knocking on the door of D1 times soon enough as you get more WRS week under your belt, keep up the good work, it will pay off in the end. 👍

Phillip.

Ah sorry, looked the same size as a replay.

Looks clean, I've seen worse cases

Note: Avoiding a "red flag/red time" in GT5 is a necessary but not sufficient condition for having a clean lap. In other words, you can't rely on the GT5 red flag. If you get the red flag you know your lap is dirty, but the lack of a red flag doesn't mean your clean.

WRS has tighter rules -- 2 tires on track at all times and the definition of track is different from PD's. (and can vary by track, look in OP for the combo). i.e. With the WRS there is no margin for error whereas I've seen 4 wheels off track without a red flag from GT5 (they give you the close calls).

Just a note to check with replay/photomode if it's close and if in doubt consider it dirty (i forget the official WRS wording to that effect) -- you put a lot of "onus" on the person verifying the replay if it takes a microscope to determine if you're clean.

However, just toss any lap that's flagged in GT5 as I've never seen a case where it's the "other way around".

Way to step it up! 👍 I hope your T3 needs work because it's going to hard to match those times. Tonight is my last shot at this combo as I head out to Seattle to visit the in laws.

Not much activity on this thread since this afternoon, where is everybody?

Nice splits Ralliart 👍

Now does anybody have a good technique for the dreaded first chicane? I have a good time through T1 on the board, but for the life of me can't get anywhere near it at the moment, either hitting the wall on exit, or not carrying enough momentum up the hill, getting mostly .5s at the moment when I have been hitting .2s -.3s quite regular, just can't see what i'm doing wrong now :dunce:

Any ideas? :)

Same thing was happening to me, so I started lifting off just before I hit the first curb & I'm more consistent. My turn in point is when the full car has just crossed the shadow from the Bridgestone sign overhead. I use chase cam so it might be different depending.

How I have managed to beat my time with these splits I don't know, 4 tenths slower through T1 and T2 and beat my overall time by half a tenth. I had a .277 T1, and a .870 T2 on my previous best. The frustrating thing is I can get 3 to 4 car lengths ahead at T2 but manage to loose it all in the final 2 sectors.

Now you can see why I said that you can't go by what the leader boards say:ouch:

T1 23.512
T2 28.907

This proves I am not very good when it comes to FWD cars I would say, don't understand how I can loose a few car lengths in the final part of the lap

Had my first half hour, at first I wasn't able to get better than 24.0, then I finally started to understand what to do in the first chicane.

23.551
28.960

Are you serious? You managed in half an hour what it took me 5 hours to run . Oh well, the clock struck midnight literally and I said one more lap and I'm done... Bingo, my best and final lap 👍

T1: 23.453
T2: 29.123

I'm going to have to submit with this time as I'll be away for the weekend (and up at 4:30 am to catch a plane -- yuck).

Good luck to all this week.

Update
T1: 23.899
T2: 28.997

No aids no ABS, BB set at 5/3
Last update for tonight, may struggle to get another shot so may have to submit with these splits, forgot how much I enjoy the WRS now I've finally found a couple of hours spare the last 2 evenings.

(The reason for the quote is not to confuse dear old fetchbot!)

I see people talking about their 'goals' when posting their splits (ie. met my goal but feel there is more to gain.) just wanted to ask how you set your own goal.
Do you run say 5 laps and then say my goal is to knock a second off the lap time or do you look at other peoples splits and try to match them?
I quoted my splits above (I've had better splits in both sectors but not on the same lap, these are from my fastest overall lap.) and want to know if I should be happy with them or not.

I have not really taken part in the WRS since prologue and this week have managed three sessions, one 4 lapper with the pad (whilst dinner was cooking!!), a nine/ten lap run with the wheel and a further attempt with the wheel which lasted one and a half maybe two hours.

I may be able to get another run at it tonight or Sunday night but would to know where I should be aiming.

Cheers chaps,
Jim.

I try to set my goal according to splits on the board. Out of that I ty and set a laptime to make as goal.
My only problem is I always want .1 more than I have currently. I never seem to be competely satisfied with my time which makes it very frustrating.
I already submitted my time with splits on the board and still I'm going to have another crack at it this evening. Trying to shave .1 out of it.

Jim,

Once I've run a track for 10 or 15 mins, I start recording/saving my laps and recording the splits. I only make a note of clean laps, and laps where I've either gone quicker over the whole lap or quicker to the leaderboard split. Over the course of a week's event, I'll usually have 10 to 15 laps noted like this. I then start looking at what the theoretical best lap would be if I took the best of each sector and added them together.

This typically then forms my goal time, and I'll usually get within 1 to 2 tenths of this by the end of the event.

Thanks guys 👍, I guess this means I should be aiming for .23 off first sector and .1ish off 2nd.
Hard to judge the rest of the lap though, I remember being quite high in my division judging by the splits on one of the Prologue WRS's but was almost last in my division when the lap times came out!! :grumpy:
