...with a horrible T3 :ouch: but still faster at the line by a good chunk as my previous best also had a horrible T3

EDIT: New splits, great T2, good T3, horrible T1 (relatively speaking). Dropped a 1'02.52x earlier :banghead:

22.841
39.886

Dropped .15 in T1 (best of 22.69x) but otherwise very happy with this lap. Set-up has been tweaked again and I'll post the changes later, but it's a compromise to get the car to work over the whole lap and as a result, it's a bit "snappy" in places...

Version 2.0...

Man Carlos I am trying so hard to keep up with you bit to no avail!!!

Looking great sir!

Hoping to get some seat time tomorrow morning. I have work tomorrow night so well see.

Justin.

Not finding the car easy to slow down in the braking zones - running 7/3, but might lower the ride height and see if this helps.

T1 23.127
T2 40.518

At 459hp so far, should be better times to follow.

First run for the week, went slowly and off the track mostly but a couple of decent laps as well.

23.011
40.823

23.217
41.325

Annoying how they start you off too close to the S/F line... I brake right away and go in reverse through parabolica before starting my runs.

Jon, I'll give your tune a try next.

Carlos Fandango
Welcome - call me Jon.

I've been meaning to try your tune actually.

Only one I haven't tried yet. Will see if it's faster, at least if it's faster for me :) 👍

Crap! I thought I was killing it but was on SS tread, now I can't put it together. I'll keep trying, great combo.

Thank's to Carlos' tune I went 0,2 faster for full lap. And was 0,3 faster in first sector, just to pull that tenth back now and I'll be happy 👍

Thank you, Jon I believe it is 👍

Here's my new sector's, Turn's out I went ,740 down in S2 :ouch: If pull that back I'll be a full second faster :D

T1: 22.799
T2: 41.650

Gaah! Go away with you! :yuck:

Nice splits mate. 👍 :P

Developing my own setup still... a work in progress.

22.644
39.870

Sector 3 is the best part of the lap this week so expect some surprises there, particularly from Wes and James :sly: Hard to say what's possible at the limit but I think James is just about there already.... (waits for a 22.4 and 39.5 :dopey:)

Agree Chris, sector three is where the tricky stuff is :nervous:. I don't expect to be near you D1 boys on results day, but it's fun on the splits leaderboard while it lasts. Will hopefully get some laps in tonight to try and catch up again :D

@Matty, you're welcome.

Ha, the amount of times I have just touched the grass on the outside of turn 1 and sent my flying into the barrier is beyond belief! Then its another tootle round to be able to start another lap, very frustrating at times!

But as you say, I think this one is all about luck.. being able to hit the exact braking point and apex with these sport hards on is tough. One missed braking point and the lap is over :ouch:

@Matty, you're welcome.

Thanks to you I got the fastest s1 of D3 :D

Just to get the fastest S2 now and I'm away with it :dopey:

Carlos Fandango
Good luck - you've got some stiff competition in D3

Thanks, I'll need it alright, lost 4 tenths on my split cause of a bad T2 but made 2 tenths on the lap. Just to get the T2 and I'll be happy no matter what the rest of D3 do :D

Good luck too yourself too 👍

Woo a new setup to try :D

Hopefully it'll help tie my T1 and T2 together :)

I'd post one myself but I just can't tune :dopey:

That's a lot of rear camber Chris! How did you end up there?

I found it allowed me to run a looser decel setting on the diff for turn in but keeps the rear stable mid corner so I can get back on the power earlier. The setup is kind of a cross between a touring car and a go-kart. It just got stiffer and stiffer 'til I found some grip and then I adjusted it 'til it didn't spin out on entry, then LSD set to mash the throttle on exits. :dopey:

The Ascari chicane is giving me fits. Trying to find the latest braking point possible, yet getting on the throttle quick for a good drive down to Parabolica is key. I think I've done it right once in 90-100 laps.

I've hit a wall with my current setup. I've had several better times thru T2 but lose it at Ascari. I'll give Chris's tune a try tomorrow and see if I can improve.

Excactly on the Ascari bit.

My fastest lap has a perfect Ascari but a perfect T1 and a horrendous T2..

Can get decent T1's and T2's consistently enough but Ascari kills me every time.. :grumpy:

*sigh* if only we had a tyre temp & pressure function...

Indeed... Not that GT5's tyre mechanics have any basis in reality. :P I just got my sticky hands on the public beta of rFactor 2. Lovely lovely Motec telemetry. :P The HUD has a graphic that also shows tyre temp across the tread so you can see if you're heating them evenly.

Chris, I just installed the Motec plugin into rFactor 2 myself. Still learning the software though, loads of data to interpret.

How do you like the FFB, I think it's about the best I've felt on any sim.

Been having a blast with the vintage F1 car around the old Monaco circuit. Trying to learn the heel and toe method with the manual shifter.:scared: Need lots more practice with that.

*sigh* if only we had a tyre temp & pressure function...

That's what we were talking about this Sunday. Jake is doing iracing, and Kenny was asking about the differences in physics engines and the relationship to tire wear.

Kenny's point is that if we don't know the inside and outside tire temperature, then we don't know how much our camber/toe settings are affecting tire wear.

Jake can change tire pressures, but the relationship between GT5, iracing, and reality are quite vast indeed!

I have the distinct advantage of Jimmy. He races only every Sunday, and does his own tuning on the fly for every S.M.A.R.T. race. [Sunday Morning Automotive Racing Team]. He drives my rig, and I've learned much by watching him change my settings to his own preference. Sometimes he's faster, sometimes not.

He and I, with Kenny and Jake doing their set-ups, were comparing tire wear versus extreme camber settings. We found that camber doesn't really seem to affect tire wear in GT5, even on-line. If you stay on the track, your tire wear will not be noticeably different from someone who uses more/less camber than you do. Again, this is GT5, not real life.

I never used a lot of camber because I thought it reduced my tire wear. That is not my opinion now, so I will use it more freely.

Since Jon and Chris have been so gracious, I'm going to spend this week comparing their settings and the adjustments made. I want to get a better idea of how practice tunes crossover into on-line races.

I hurt myself last week by trying to push every lap. This week, I need to calm down and just drive for the pleasure of it. This study of off-line against on-line tunes seems to be a perfect opportunity to do that.

Thanks Speedy!! I know some racers don't care for the tuning events, but I live for them!

Tomorrow I have to do my on-line races in the totally awesome 3D3 Racing series, so I won't be posting any splits on this combo until Thursday.

But I'm not going to be an idiot again and try to over-achieve as a prerequisite to results. This week, I am going to run laps because I want to run laps. I'm not chasing anybody. :)

Racing On!
