Looking forward to this hope there is enough people to do two lounges also i'm probably going to update my status for the qualifying to confirmed. And I have a question if there is not enough people for two lounges for the qualifying how will it be determined if you can participate in that or not and what will happen if you can't participate?

Oh and where did the sign up's table go in the OP I can't find it.

Update your registration in post #3.

All drivers who can make it will take part in knockout qualifying. We'll just run round 1 in two lounges if there are more than 15 drivers participating and then merge into one lounge for round 2 with those that advance:
  1. Drivers 1-10 on the registration list will run qualifying round 1 in the main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) with w-g-e as steward (oink backup)
  2. The remaining drivers will run qualifying round 1 in the B lounge (GTP_3D3_B) with Allibubba99 as the steward (possibly another backup)
  3. When Q1 is complete the stewards from both lounges will enter in the fastest laps of all drivers into google docs
  4. Those times will be merged/compared and the top N overall will join the main lounge for the remaining rounds
The table from the OP shows how many advance through each round:

We're most likely in the 15-18 range so 12 will advance to Q2 and will easily fit into one lounge.

Quick update on the registrations. At this point we have 18 drivers registered for both the qualifying and the race.

Qualification:
  • For the qualification we're going to have the top 10 drivers (based on division/handicap) start in the main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) which is indicated with an "A" in the registration image. The remaining drivers should start round 1 of qualifying in the B lounge (GTP_3D3_B) which is indicated with a "B" in the registration image.
  • Stewards will open both lounges and post in this thread when they are ready which should be about 45-60 minutes prior to the start of Q1.
  • Mics will be enabled in both rooms for the entire qualification session, but all drivers must mute their mics once the qualification starts... the mics are there only so the admins can more easily communicate instructions or for emergence use. both voice and text chat should be avoided while drivers are doing hot laps.
  • After Q1 is complete there will be a short brake while the stewards compile fast laps. Once that's finished the top 12 drivers will be instructed to join the main lounge (GTP_3D3Racing) for the remaining rounds. Only drivers that advance to round 2 and race stewards are allowed to join/remain in the main lounge after Q1. All others can run practice laps in lounge B and/or can follow the action on oink's live feed.
  • After Q2 is complete there will be a short break before starting Q3. Drivers eliminated in round 2 are welcome to stay in the lounge and observe the final round or may leave during the break. If you choose to stay please do not leave once the final round has started.

After all qualification is complete we will post the full results and announce lounge/grid assignments. If the number of confirmed drivers remains at 18 or above there will be two lounges run on Sunday and all drivers will be able to participate. Because there is no official broadcast for this race and no spot reserved in the lounge for oink, the lounge split rules will slightly differ from the norm.

Lounge Limits:
  • 00-17: The top 16 qualifiers will race in room 1 and any remaining drivers will be on "stand by" and fill in for absent drivers or last minute cancellations.
  • 18: The top 10 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (8) in room 2.
  • 19: The top 11 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (8) in room 2.
  • 20-24: The top 12 qualifiers will race in room 1 and the remaining drivers (8-12) in room 2.

Note: mics will be disabled for the race on Sunday regardless of driver counts.

I haven't practiced at all yet, so I'm putting my self at the reserves as it's too late I guess to get it running.
But if there are 17 drivers I'll gladly take part so that no one stays outside like the last time, I'll keep an eye on this thread 👍

Hey. Whatever lounge I end up in ill be putting the race up on my stream. I know you're worried about possible lag but I have fibre optic with a low ping and upload of around 9mbps. So it'll be fine. If you really don't want me to do it I won't.

As far as I'm concerned you can stream since oink can't do it. I don't think it would be worth the extra chance of lag if someone was already broadcasting it, but since you'll be our only source of coverage I'll actually be glad if you do stream and I'll be watching if at all possible. 👍

PS> Now that anastasis went on reserve I'm really hoping one of the other reserve drivers confirms so nobody has to sit. :scared: Of course if one driver cancels we'll be at 16 and run all in one lounge which wouldn't be that bad either. I suspect with a few days to go we'll see a few more changes.

Well bear in mind it would be the on board from what's happening on my screen and not an awesome presentation like oink's.

Oink's are normally from his in car view (except for this series) and they are still fun to watch so looking forward to it. 👍

I'd like to ask a favor from the drivers that are taking part in the the event this weekend to support the broadcast on Saturday. I'll be assisting oink in the broadcast of the knockout quali on Saturday as the color commentator and since I haven't run a single lap at GP/F in the F1 car I'm kind of in the dark:

Would you send a PM to me with information I could use to help make educated/meaningful comments.

I'd be interested in the following types of information:
  • Your quali goals: lap times for each round, final grid spot, key competitor you want to beat
  • Driving/Lap Techniques: Trouble/tricky spots in the lap, special approach to any corner/section/sector, biggest keys to the lap
  • Quali Strategy: How you will approach each session.
  • Any other info welcome as well.

Also, if you have any comments on your performance/results from Monaco (good or bad, expectations versus actual) and your goals for the German GP and how you might approach it differently from Monaco to achieve a different result, etc.

Any information you provide will be kept confidential until the broadcast on Saturday. Obviously don't include any information you don't want to be public prior to the race on Sunday... if you send me information we may or may not use it during the broadcast, but it's all in play.

PS> Will accept information right up until Saturday a few hours before the quali session.

Can't answer those questions until I get some practice in, at the moment I'm too busy with GT Academy

I figured that's where everyone else is too.... the practice board is dead.

We thought for sure they'd set up GT Academy like last year where the final TT wasn't unlocked until the middle of the month, but boy were we wrong. Cost me big time as I can't even try a lap until the 19th which puts me behind the 8-ball.

Well, in any case there are still 25 days so a couple days off of GTA to practice for the F1 race won't hurt much and might be a productive break toward the end of this week.

Also opens up the door for a few guys that practice this combo more... maybe we'll see some unexpected finishes as a result.

Anyone able to share some fuel and tire wear stats with me can't practise long enough this week to be able to make a good estimate too busy. :sly:

Apologies Tim but not going to be able to make this one.. Of course GT Academy has taken alot of my time, but the college where I work are hosting a fun day on saturday and require me to work :(, and Sunday I'm out for a birthday meal now! Would be hit and miss if I made it back or not on the Sunday!

I am going to be practising today. Is anyone else going to be giving GT Academy a break? I am thinking I will be able to join a lounge around 19:00 gmt

I'll join you for some time.

I might drop by (i like to run full race to test fuel).
GTA is not my thing - i'm too old for that.

Yes at the moment Al, Red and I are running some laps

eh, I'll pop in to get warmed up for Q ... got the day off and all, don't want to waste the entire thing grinding out Silverstone.

FYI... fixed that insane murder problem through Schumacher. Little negative front toe and stiffer than 3 ARB stabilizes it so it's not a white knuckle death ride. Kerbs are still suicidal but it's pretty easy to stay off them.

I get the feeling I'm going to do horribly in this week's GP. I don't think I've managed a single stint where I haven't hit a kerb and spun off. It might be because after doing GT Academy so much, I'm still in time trial mode and can't seem to settle into a consistent pace. :irked:

Anyone else spinning off all the time?

I haven't done a long stint in ages, and I'm second off the pace after a little warm up today, so it's not looking good for me either :P

I tried running a full stint on hards and got through it without a spin. Then did a 1'26.956 on the softies with 1/4 tank of fuel... god the car feels fantastic on low fuel. It just goes wherever you want.

But yeah, spins are pretty common whenever a kerb and a full tank of fuel are involved. The kerbing is just suicidal at some sections. If I touch one in schumacher I have to lift or die. If I touch the outside kerb on the final corner I lift or die. The car is just really evil on heavy fuel. It's either understeering or trying to snap the back end.

With the numbers still at 17 confirmed, I've signed up to make it 18. I guess I should go and practice now
