I left a while ago (was in there for 2 hours)... hopefully there are people left.

Me and Travis did a few runs around Fuji.

Lounge empty now.

I should be there in about 30 mins.

EDIT: In, Porsche is here also.

Fielded a couple questions on the team qualifying tonight. It's in the OP, but will I address a couple specifics:

Qualification
  • Each team will qualify together in an observed pre-qualifying race setup with at least one approved qualifying steward present to verify the room settings and green flag the laps (via replay since they can't watch every driver at once).
  • The qualifying race will be set to 5 laps: one un-timed out-lap, two timed laps, one un-timed in-lap, plus one buffer lap so the race end timer never gets tripped.
  • Drivers are allowed to assist each other via draft (pulling or bumping) if they choose.
  • Drivers will be allowed to reverse off the grid and position themselves on the final corner prior to their out lap. But after this initial setup, no driver can go backwards again, but otherwise they can proceed as dictated by their "assist" strategy. Examples:
    • Relay: The first driver proceeds on his out-lap, while the others reverse and park on the final corner. As that first driver approaches his first hot lap one of the parked drivers begins his out lap and at the same time provides a draft assist, getting out of the way if desired prior to turn 1 or continuing to pull...
    • Train: Fastest driver goes first and pulls a 2nd driver.
    • No Assist: Drivers spread out and avoid draft as well as any possible interference.
    • Combination of the above.
  • Normal track boundary rules and penalties apply to each driver.
  • The final buffer lap can be used to assist, but take care not to cross the finish at the end of that lap. If the race finish timer is tripped that's the fault of the team and they will suffer if they can't complete their hot laps.
  • Drivers/teams may choose to forgo the team qualifying and run a solo session. By choice or because they prefer to run solo.
  • Any driver that DC's during a team qualification session before completing a single timed lap can qualify solo, but will only get one timed lap in their make-up quali race. Once a hot lap is completed no re-runs are allowed.

The only time any driver is allowed to go in reverse direction during the quali race is prior to the start of the first driver's hot lap (during his out-lap). Drivers can go in reverse only as far as the runoff area beside (to the left/prior to) the final turn. Once the first driver starts his first timed hot-lap then all drivers are prohibited from going the wrong way on track (includes going backward in reverse to achieve the same).

The entire team can qualify together (3 or 4) or in subsets (2 + 2) or (3 + 1) or all solo (1 + 1 + 1 + 1). The hard rule is no driver can participate in a qualification race twice (even if it's just to assist).

No driver outside the team can participate in the qualification races. Free agents can qualify if they want to fill in, but must do so solo unless they become affiliated with a team. We'll handle post-quali team changes on a case-by-case basis.

Just about everything else is allowed (normal track boundaries and penalties apply to any timed lap).

Any other questions?

Team Belgium I haven't heard from except for n0ize. Daniel, are you in contact with Frank and Stef? Are they still 100% confirmed for this event? I hope so!

Unfortunately no, Tim. I will pm them now. I hope too that they are confirmed. Will let you know as soon as possible.

DrAug / Tamhablo just confirmed he is racing and looking for a team. He is going to quali solo most likely today.

I guess this week it's not longer allowed to use the main lounge for practise due to qualifications?

This might be a stupid question, but regarding qualification; how is it done - and how/where should they be submitted? I understand that you have to set a time, but after that I'm completely blank ...

You have to arrange with an official qualifying steward to observe and view your qualification race. The steward verifies room settings and car regulations and observes/verifies your laps (viewing live and/or watching the saved replay if there are "close calls"). Penalties are applied to any lap if you go outside track boundaries (Normal WRS boundary rules apply).

Drivers should save their own replays so they can cross check anything themselves if there is a question. If there is a conflict between replays, the driver's replay is the one that rules them all.

You can run these qualifications races solo or on track with your team using draft/team tactics. The races can be scheduled any time between now and the deadline on Friday @ 23:59 GMT. The steward in the room cannot be one taking part in the race.

Just post to this thread when you and your team is ready to qualify. It's best to give a little notice so a steward can be made available.

No, just watch this thread for notices that a lounge is closed. Practicing in the main lounge this week is actually encouraged*. Just be sure to check this thread before joining. You'll see a closed message when it's not safe to join. If teams want a private qualification they can ask for lounge B for their quali run... that's up to them. Drivers in the main lounge won't be asked to leave if they are already there... we'll just ask no drivers join to avoid the distracting messages when we close a lounge. Also, if things get busy we may move all qualification runs to the alternate lounges and the main will be used for public practice.

*Note that the main lounge is reserved on Tuesday and Wednesday for the weekly race (Nurburgring) so use GTP_3D3_B instead on those two days. Thursday through Saturday the lounges are reserved for the World Cup.

Ahh, okay, now it makes sense. Thanks .

So just a quick question, how to we determine who's in which lounge, is it average lap time of the teams or can the teams get split up?

It's in the details. :sly:

Tournament Structure
Please note that regardless of the outcome of round 1 (Fuji), all teams and drivers will advance to round 2 (Spa).

Round 1:
  • Lounge Assignments: Team lounge assignment determined by qualification seed (Snaking System: e.g. 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, 4=D, 5=D, 6=C, 7=B, 8=A, 9=A, etc.)
  • Starting Order: Determined by pre-qualifying fast laps for each individual driver
  • Points: Sum of top 3 drivers per team (after driver handicap multiplier applied to finishing base points)

Round 2:
  • Lounge Assignments: Team lounge assignment determined by points earned in round 1 (top/middle/bottom brackets)
  • Starting Order: Determined by pre-qualifying fast laps for each individual driver
  • Points: Sum of top 3 drivers drivers per team (after driver handicap multiplier AND bracket multiplier applied to finishing position points)

Round 1 it's by average qualifying time of each teams top 3 drivers (Snaking assignment 1,2,3,3,2,1,1,2,3). This levels each lounge in terms of difficulty. Each lounge has the same point system since they are equalized (multiplier = 1.0).

Round 2 it's by points scored in round 1 (Top 4, Next 4, Last 4). This creates a "winners" bracket type setup. The harder round 2 lounges score more points (multipliers listed in details). The winning team of the event is most definitely going to come from the winners bracket, but it's possible a Middle bracket team that dominates their lounge in round 2 could overtake one or two teams from the winners bracket who don't perform well.

No doubt it's complicated. How simple would this be if we could get 48 drivers in one lounge! :boggled:

But don't worry... you guys just drive... I've programmed google to do all the calculations and it'll tell you where to go. We post the results as an image and you just race. :sly:

Going to main lounge now for some Fuji practice. Or Spa.

I am trying to get to the lounge too Daniel. Not working so well so far! Here's hoping!

Al

I'll be on in a little over an hour. Probably won't be on for long. Haven't even tried Spa with the car yet.

I'm in now with Daniel and DZ. Kevin and Joe just joined too.

Sorry about the double post but this is important
Unfortunately something today has just come up and I can no longer participate in this event
I'm very sorry Team UK
Dano

A reminder... if you want to practice for the World Cup today or tomorrow (Tues/Wed) please use the "B" lounge as the main lounge is reserved for the race/practice at Nurburgring. We'll shift back to the main lounge starting Thursday.

Very happy to see all the NA drivers in the lounge every night! The typical EU practice hours have been rather dead by comparison. That's a flip from the norm.

There are stewards around the next couple days so if anyone wants to qualify there should be someone online. I have a feeling Thurs/Fri is going to be BUSY!
