GTP_WRS-Online : Academy/D-League Racing - Suspended Until GT7

Great pictures, Sjaak 👍.

I'll take a look at the replay, in a few minutes. I'm 100% sure I made a lot of errors :boggled:.

It was a great a great race, yesterday and thanks for the great instruction, Tim.
About the overtaking: iam agree with you about the basic rules and comments.

Nurburgring is really narrow track, if everyone in the same strategy, with same cars, close pace..., really hard to do the overtaking maneuver without any minor contact.
Iam always try to avoid it, sometime it happened a little contact.

If you seen the race, could i ask that have you noticed any "too much" situation about me?

I don't have a replay with FF and Rewind as an observer (nor time to review it again if I did) so I don't have anything specific about you. I switched between drivers during the race and got a little bit of everything, but obviously there was a lot of action I missed. I did see you manage to pull away from the 2nd pack and start closing on Al... maybe 4-5 more laps and you and Al may have been in a battle for 2nd.

Great pictures 👍 looking forward to my frst race!

Your first opportunity to race with us is Wednesday:

If no one minds, I can have a look at the replay for you. Your arrow on the map was getting closer and closer, I was starting to get nervous!!!!

About quali. I think if tie then who made time first get pole.

We can't really be watching everything during quali and can't necessarily know who got the lap first... the lap times are not time stamped. The tie breaker has to be based on something we can quickly look up. It's not going to happen very often anyway so it should be as easy to administer as possible.

Division (inc. Colour) and / or Handicap is an easy lookup. As is the drivers join date on GTPlanet ;)

It may never happen again, it took over 120 events for this one :D

Quali: Why not let game decided? Why it put me 1st and Al 2nd? I did first? Pole or 2nd not much different anyway...

Because we have brains and the game doesn't. Why does it screw up the starting order half the time after quali? No thanks. We're going with handicap moving forward as the tie breaker.

And maybe you got the lap first because you were first to enter track. Are we going to start racing out of the pits to see who can enter track first... nope.

I thought that race was great. I really focused on my passing. I hope it showed improvement to other racers.

Sorry guys, due to the time change it will be very difficult for me to make it anymore. Definitely will not make it for the instructor hour. If all goes perfect here at home I would have to jump into Qualifying/Race without a warm up and that's not usually a good thing.

Al, we're in discussions about pushing this back an hour (or really just reversing the change we just made)... for NA drivers this would actually mean no time change versus last week. For EU drivers who just changed their clocks this would mean the race was one hour later in your local time. Waiting for feedback from Frank, but thought I'd toss it out there in case any of you who already signed up would have conflicts if this gets moved back one hour to 18:00 GMT for Instruction, 19:00 GMT for Racing. Give us your feedback please... unfortunately we can't please everyone, but we'll do our best.

Riddle: What has 3 races and 4 winners?

Answer: Our next special event... The America Cup...

For Australia, we drop out of daylight saving as well this week end so the time shift is 2 hours and make is a 3 am start, I could cope with pushing this back one hour and missing most of the Instruction for a 5 am race start.

Ok, The start time gets moved back one hour to 18:00 GMT for Instruction, 19:00 GMT for Racing. 👍

I will change the OP.

Keep in mind:

UK is GMT +1
Central Europe is GMT +2

Along with the time change we are making one other "cosmetic" change, but it's also a slight change in our thinking...

The racing series within the Academy is going to get a name change from "WRS Rookie Racing League" to "WRS Development Racing League" (or WRS D-League* for short).

The reason for the change is that some see the term "rookie" as less than flattering and in fact it doesn't accurately reflect the range of drivers we want to encourage to participate in this series. Sure there are true rookies in the series and they are always welcome, but there are also experienced drivers that are still "developing".

We don't feel these experience drivers are "rookies" or should necessarily be classified as such, but we do feel they still can benefit from D-League participating and should maintain eligibility as long as their pace/skills are a good fit. If/when a driver is promoted to D3-Gold, begins to dominate the D-League or consistently competes with faster drivers in other 3D3 events then their eligibility for the D-league will be removed.

We'll be updating the thread and docs over the next few days to make the change.

*We borrowed the name D-League from the NBA

I'm definitely not a rookie (been playing since GT1) but I never took offense at the name. In the three or four weeks now that I've been participating in GTP Academy and regular WRS events I have developed into a better driver and I attribute that positive change to this great league and the great drivers that participate, mentor, and officiate. So, in my opinion, the name change is definitely appropriate.

Guys, because of the risky nature of turn 1 we're going to change the start type of main event.

Formula One Style Formation Lap and Standing Start
  • After qualifying stay on track and a steward will read off qualifying times. When your time is announced (assuming it's correct) exit to the lobby.
  • When all drivers are in the lobby the steward will re-open the pits and all drivers should enter the pits.
  • The steward will call the drivers 1 by 1 onto the track in qualifying order and the drivers will line up in single file behind the pole sitter in order to stage the grid.
  • Once all drivers are in their proper start positions the steward will start the race countdown timer.
  • After the system places you on the grid for the start, drivers will run a "briskly paced" single file formation lap in quali order. If the system gets the order wrong use the formation lap to quickly shuffle.
  • The pole sitter should run the formation lap at a "reasonable" speed so it's completed between 2:00 and 2:20 on the race clock.
  • Weaving or other tire warming procedures are NOT allowed during the formation lap.
  • Following the exit of the final chicane all drivers will proceed to their appropriate grid starting marker. Odd numbers on the right, even on the left.
  • Once in your spot apply the breaks and do not move.
  • The race clock in the top right corner of the screen will then be utilized for timing the race start.
  • At exactly 3 minutes the race starts.
  • Should any driver mistakenly start prior to that mark they must lift immediately so as to not gain position from the error prior to turn 1.
  • If a driver misses the start you are allowed to pass on the straight, but only if you started at the proper time and can make the pass safely prior to turn in for turn 1.
  • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated. It's a long race and error on the side of caution as there are no runoffs and only walls to bounce you back into traffic.

One last note on the final chicane. Only one driver can fit through the chicane at a time so avoid "games of chicken" which will result in crashes collecting not only the two drivers involved, but those behind. There is no room to allow two wide per the OLR if a driver establishes overlap so the driver in front at the turn in point has the right of way and the driver behind must give way. If you play chicken and you were behind at the turn in, you may be subject to penalty if an incident results.

Finally, this race is going to take patience. There will surely be a few incidents with the walls so close... remember we're here to have fun and drivers of all abilities will be on track.:)

Video example:

All the development guys should really review this video as the Wed evening race was ugly at the back during the start. Can't make the race but thought I'd reinforce the point being made by Sjaak.

I have a couple of questions.

I was running great first sectors but my middle sectors were just awful. I was losing 2 secs every lap. Do any of you fast guys use handbrake through the turns after the hairpin? Not sure why I'm losing so much time there. I think my lines are pretty good.

For the final chicane I've been running a fairly straight line coming in and downshifting through the left turn but I seem to be dropping a lot of speed. (I cross the start finish line at about 87mph). Any suggestions?

As a last question, on straights I seem to always fall back of cars ahead of me. I'm listening to the engine as well as watching the tach to know when to shift but I never seem to gain ground or even hold my ground???

Thanks in advance for the input.

Scott
