Noob questions. If I'm in the mid 5's to low 6's most laps, but dip into the 4's about one in twenty, is that okay?

Also, should I run online to be sure of my performance, or is it the same as offline?

Mika, try this for your Elise,it should get you up speed and for me it is half a second under the 1'04.500

will try it i'm getting good laps tho at 1'04.538 being closest to the target time it's really fast in the corners

Hey Baron :) You'll love this parity racing - some great racing to be had. In answer to your question, no that's not ok - your ultimate lap-time must be 1'04.500. If you go under even once, you should detune the car a bit. 👍 And there is still a slight disparity between on and offline physics so running online is essential to get the right setup.

You should not dip below 1'04.5 even on your gold laps. Let me just say if it's a 1 in 100 "gold" lap and you run a within a few hundredths of the target and can't replicate that again then I wouldn't be too concerned. But if it's even 1 in 20 and you run a tenth under the target then you need to handicap the car a bit more. You will get faster with practice and most likely faster yet on race day when the adrenaline is up. In the race under draft you may be under 1'04.5 and that's allowed (as well as going over the top speed due to draft), but if you run a best lap without draft under 1'04.5 during the sprints you'll be asked to adjust your car by a few PP for every tenth. It happens on race day and that's OK as long as you make adjustments between races.

If anyone pulls away and the car is dominant it'll be pretty obvious. Every driver can pretty much expect to be locked in a battle the entire race unless they go off and lose touch with the pack... even in those cases often someone will just slow up and wait for you if there are a bunch of laps left... the group is like that! 👍 The focus here is on the battle, not the result... we don't even publish the winners.

Sometimes I find you handicap the car (say a bit less power) and it becomes a bit easier to drive and you get more consistent... so instead of running laps from 1'04.0-1'05.5 you end up narrowing the range to something like 1'04.5-1.05.2 which is a perfect range for the parity event. It's typical in past events that I would be up to a second over the target until I really hone in after 10-15 laps of practice of each session.

As far as online/offline I have found that if tire wear is "Off" and grip reduction is "real" for your offline session the times are nearly identical to those of this online event which are run with the same settings. So you can work with your ghost. You might want to verify and run at least one online session though just to verify. I do know with tire wear on there are some differences.

NOTE: We will have a practice next week on Thu and Fri where we can finalize settings... we'll do a bunch of short races with free run between.

EDIT: Tree'd by Chris, and we pretty much agree... except I do think you'll find online/offline with tire wear off to be near identical (since one of the updates at least, not the old days where they were way different).

The other guys have more than answered the first question. My answer to the 2nd question is for Parity you will want to just run online because the time will be a reasonable amount slower online. When I'm practicing for wednesday races however, I tend to run offline so I can practice with a ghost in practice mode, to just nail the combo, when I'm reasonably happy, I then move to practicing online with the tyre ware etc to get a feel for it in the online environment.

I really don't see that offline delta Paul? I run the *exact* same times for parity online and offline. Wednesday races are a different animal because we use tire wear "on".

Now I'm curious what Baron finds out when he tries it online.

EDIT: All this talk of parity racing I'm going to jump in the lounge for a few minutes... although I don't have much time... 30-45 minutes tops before another kids sporting event.

Although the target laptime is important, topspeed is even so.
My setup will get you up to 248 km.

If your topspeed is way below the 250km,the pack will rush by on the straight.
It is hard to get the positions back in the twisty part of the track.

Just my impression of the last parity races I competed. :sly:

you have more experience than me so i'll probably go with a version of you're setup

It depends. I did pretty well at Monza and I was handicapped by 8-10 km/h as far as top speed versus other cars (like Kevin's rocket ship). The key was draft... my car had a top speed by itself that was quite low, but in the draft it could still complete pass... it had a lot of top end that was not realized without draft (I had a reserve gear. :sly:). If you are fast in the corner and can draft pass the faster cars you'll be in good shape... but you will see saw from in front to behind almost every lap... that's actually quite a bit of fun.

Come out on Thurs or Friday for the practice and race against other cars and that'll be a final test of your specs before the event.

EDIT: Can't make it in the lounge... no practice for me today.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm looking forward to next weekend. I'm still breaking the car in so I'll do some more offline laps and detune it a bit, I need to work on consistency a bit more too. Hopefully I can make a practice, just depends on work.

i think i'm going to run my first setup with sjaaks gearbox setup i made 10 laps online and my best time was 1'04,540 and my slowest was 1'05,234. so i can be very consistent with this setup because it has a lot of grip and has a good suspension/downforce setup and if i wanted to make sjaaks setup work for me i would have to tune it down so much i might as well use my one. but maybe i'll try it again in the practice race i'll see

Hm...never thought of that before...now you say it. Totally right. Oh well, good thing I've only done it that way the few times we've done Parity Events.

:banghead:

hi guys,

I would like too join you lot for this event.

so I did the sector 2 & 3 AMG challenge, and send in times.
then I get told im not registered, isn't that why I send in the 2&3 AMG?
any advise or tips on this?

OT: I got a car ready with race hards in which I can do 1.04.5xx, should limit topspeed a bit more as it reaches 254km/u now.

anyways, I hope too join you guys soon!

If you have submitted your qualifier, you will just need to wait for it to be processed. Check this thread for updates on newly registered drivers. You just need to wait, and be patient for your qualifier to be processed.

Edit: Tree'd. Looks like Pekka has your sorted. 👍

I've sent you a private message (PM) with instructions of how to proceed.

MAny thanks for the quick response guys!

With the risk of making a fool of myself..
Could it be that it has something to do with me being on a computer at work?
Our system manager didn't make into the Y2K's :dunce:

Normally I don't have issues with stuff like this. but now.. :nervous:

I'm joining the main lounge to test my RX7 and sort out my car specs, feel free to join ;)

EDIT: That was quick, I found my specs :)
Leaving the lounge now.

...2003 was a very good year... I was in marathon running shape at the time and now not so much... 10 years ago I had never heard of Gran Turismo and didn't own a console and now I own 3 of them. I didn't have two kids although my (then new) wife was pregnant and we had just bought our house (at the near peak of the housing bubble) and moved to my dream town of Santa Cruz just 10 minutes from my favorite windsurfing spot in the world 👍 Let's just pretend shall we?

Good times Tim...

I've changed my car choice for the 3rd time... going with the good old '69 Z28. 👍 Hope a few more folks sign up too - its a riot this formula. Never a dull moment. :P

I'm planning too join this Saturday, am awaiting registration approval.
Have been thinking about an event with a likewise set-up for a while now. and then I kinda just stumbled on this one. Sweeeeet.
Gotta love close racing.

I will be send the 3D3 PSN's a FriendRequest today or tomorrow.
So hopefully i'll meet you all on the track.

The nice thing about this format is it's fun even with just 5-6 drivers. In fact I remember a few practice races with just PASM, n0ize and I and that was a blast.

You are all set and will show up in the registration tables if you register (you haven't filled out the registration form for this event yet). We do need your friend requests if you want to join the lounges.
