Steward's Notes:

This special event has been designed to offer participants the Full Single Seater Experience, the Formula 3[D3]. The Formula 3[D3] season will visit a few classic stops on the calendar of Formula 1, third stop is at Spa for WRS Belgian Grand Prix. Each Grand Prix will be a standalone event. Like in Formula 1, the WRS Grand Prix includes free practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, a three round knockout qualifying session on Saturday, and a full length race on Sunday.

Formula 3[D3] Experience:
  • Live F1 style knockout qualification
  • F1 style formation lap and standing start (race starts at the 3 minute mark)
  • Race distance will be similar to full race time of the real FIA Formula 1 Grand Prix (+1 for the formation lap)
News and Updates:
  • Aug 9th, 2014: The WRS Formula 3[D3] Belgian Grand Prix announced and registration open.
Good Luck, OLR Team:gtplanet:

    Knockout Qualification

Saturday's one-hour qualifying event is split into three sessions with a 5 minute break between each session to reset times:
    • Q1: 18 minute elimination round where the slowest drivers are knocked out and fill the last positions on the starting grid.
    • Q2: 15 minute elimination round where the slowest drivers are knocked out and fill the middle positions on the starting grid.
    • Q3: 12 minute shootout to determine pole position and the starting order for the top places on the starting grid.
    • The number of drivers that advance in each round is specified in the following table:
      KnockoutQualiAdvancementTable-1.png

    Qualification Details:
    • Lobby mode: The qualification sessions will be held in the Time Trial mode. This will place the cars on the track in random order. It is the responsibility of the drivers to find a piece of clean air or to try and slipstream. You should not impede another driver on a fast lap, while you are on an outlap or an inlap.
    • Pits: In all rounds the pits are open for tire changes.
    • Laps: In all rounds drivers can run as many laps as they wish. Any lap started prior to the time cutoff is legal.
    • Cutoffs: The number of drivers that are eliminated in each round will depend on the total number of drivers participating in knockout qualifying. The cutoffs will be announced an hour prior to qualifying.
    • Lounge Limits: In the event that more than 16 drivers are registered for qualification, lounges will be split evenly for Q1 at the discretion of the stewards and the number of advancing drivers will be adjusted so that there are no more than 14 drivers for Q2. The lobbies will then merge for the remaining two rounds. A steward will post instructions to this thread, including which room drivers should report to, at least an hour before qualification.
    • Disconnects: If a driver DCs during qualification he/she is allowed to rejoin the lounge. If a steward has recorded their fast lap prior to the DC the lap will count otherwise only laps run after returning to the lounge and prior to the end of the session will count.
    • Interference: If a driver is deemed by the stewards to have stopped unnecessarily on the circuit or impeded another driver during qualifying, his times may be cancelled and the driver will be placed at the back of the grid for the race start. The stewards decisions are final. Should a driver spin, run off track, or lose control of his car he must wait for a clear opening in the track to return. If a driver is in a position where he is slower than the car behind him for any reason he must slow and yield his line so that the approaching driver is not held up. Drivers that interfere with another drivers' hot lap may incur a grid placement penalty at the discretion of the stewards.

    Alternate Pre-Qualification:
    • Any driver that cannot participate in the live qualification session for any reason must contact a steward (or post to this thread) and arrange for a private qualification session.
    • All private qualifying sessions are observed and will last 5 laps (1 out lap, 3 hot laps, 1 cool down lap).
    • The driver's best "clean" hot lap will become his qualification time. If no "clean" laps are run, the drivers best "dirty" lap will be used, but with 1 second penalty added per wall tap and/or 2 seconds for a chicane cut or dirty section which has the potential to gain the driver time.
    • Any driver that qualifies in this manner can start no higher than drivers that advance to Q3 during knockout qualification.
    • Pre-qualification is a one shot deal and once you start your qualification race you are committed. In the case of a DC you must return to the lounge ASAP and run any laps you had not started during the initial session.
    • Once you run pre-qualification your time is final and you cannot run the live session on Saturday.
    • Pre-qualification lap times will not / should not be revealed until after the live qualification on Saturday.
    • Drivers that have not qualified prior to the start of the live qualification will not be allowed to race without prior steward approval.

The following is a list of approved qualification stewards:
    • Allibubba99
    • AspecBob
    • EDK
    • Gravitron
    • hasslemoff
    • jtv90069
    • MadMax86
    • GTPorsche
    • PASM
    • GTP_Patrick1

    Pace & Control Requirements:
    • Any driver that qualifies slower than the specific time set by the stewards for each track (~10 seconds off pace) may be excluded from the race.
    • Any driver that displays a lack of consistent car control during final practice or qualification may be excluded from the race.
    • The decision of the stewards in this matter is final.

Formula One Style Formation Lap and Standing Start
    • Once the starting order is confirmed by the steward all drivers should enter the pits.
    • When all drivers are in the pits, the steward will call the drivers one at a time onto the track and the drivers will line up in single file behind the pole sitter in order to stage the grid.
    • Once all drivers are in their proper start positions the steward will start the race countdown timer.
    • After the system places you on the grid for the start, drivers will line up single file and proceed with the formation lap.
    • At no time should the pacing car exceed 200 kph and all turns will be taken at reasonable speeds.
    • Weaving or other tire warming procedures ARE allowed during the formation lap - please be careful.
    • Following the exit of the final corner all drivers will proceed to their appropriate grid starting marker.
    • The race clock in the top right corner of the screen will then be utilized for timing the race start.
    • At exactly 3 minutes (3:00.000) on the clock the race starts.
    • If there is a problem staging the grid any driver can delay the start by one minute, but must do so by chat announcement at least 15 seconds prior to the start time.
    • Should any driver mistakenly start prior to the designated mark they must lift immediately so as to not gain position from the error prior to turn 1.
    • Be cautious and courteous in the first turn. Dive bombing will be penalized and will not be tolerated. Err on the side of caution and use runoff areas if available and necessary to avoid contact, but do not use it to gain positions.
    • Please take the time to practice this start procedure at least once in a practice session.
The following video demonstrates the Formation Lap and Standing Start procedure:

    Track Boundary Guidelines
Drivers are expected to do their best to stay within track boundaries per the OLR. Mistakes happens over the course of a long race and the random off or two will be overlooked in most instances, but if a pattern of boundary abuse is observed penalties will be handed out which include 15 seconds for a "minor" pattern of abuse, 30 seconds for a "substantial" pattern of abuse, and a DQ for "complete disregard" of track boundaries. In cases where penalties may not impact the driver (e.g. DC), the penalty may be carried over to the next event and may be applied as a 5 (minor) or 10 (major) grid spot penalty.

It's up to the admins' discretion exactly what qualifies as "minor", "substantial" or "complete disregard". Going outside the rumble by a centimeter isn't as serious as a car length wide excursions into the run off area. Factors such as dirty air and traffic also come into play. If you find yourself going wide then the next lap you're expected to slow down a bit more to make sure you stay within boundaries. If you make the same mistake multiple times and you want to avoid a penalty you can always self-penalize during the race by lifting for a very brief period upon returning to the track. Continuing to hammer the throttle after repeated boundary overruns may very well end with a post race penalty.

    Specifics:
    • Contact with walls should be avoided. Wall riding/bouncing to gain time will be penalized and/or can result in disqualification.
    • Rumble/ripple strips are part of the track.
    • Runoff areas are not part of the track including green painted concrete.
    • Keep 2 wheels on or above the track in order to be considered within boundaries.
    • Specific track boundaries may be posted per event and may overrule the above.

    Infractions and Penalties
    • The first step post race after an incident should be to contact other drivers involved in an incident via PM and try to come to some sort of understanding on all drivers point of view and if possible determine and agree who was at fault. If drivers come to an agreement and the results are not significantly impacted by the incident then no further action is necessary. If the incident was significant then follow up this driver to driver discussion with a report and review of the incident to an admin for penalty assessment.
    • If neither driver can agree as to who is at fault for an incident or the severity then escalate that incident to an admin via PM.
    • Be sure to include as many details as possible and an exact lap number and race time with the incident report. Admins will not waste time searching for the incident and will ignore any reports that do not specify the time of occurrence.
    • Admins/Steward will review and discuss all incidents before coming to a decision. If further detail is needed, drivers will be contacted via PM. Once a decision is reached by the incident review team there is no appeal process and the penalties are final.
    • Penalties could include loss of positions. There is no fixed formula for penalties, but the context and severity of the incident is taken into account.

(tables will auto update approximately every 30 minutes)

In the event of a field of 13-16 drivers we will disable mics and race with one grid. With 17+ we will split the grid (SEE Lounge Splits BELOW).

Eligibility

This WRS-Online event hosted by 3D3 Racing is open to GTP_Registered members only. If you are not currently on the registry run the GTP_Registry qualifier and join now!

Registration Instructions

The following must be performed by every driver for every event:
  • Click the registration button above, fill-in and submit the online registration form (be sure to use the PSN that's listed in the registry)
  • Leave a quick note in this thread to let us know you've registered and any other comments.
The following must be performed only one time per driver (not per event):
  • Submit the 3D3 Racing Online Driver Database Entry Form. Your information will need to be verified before you are added to the db and before your ID will appear in the registered driver table above. You can view the official driver database here.
Registration Changes

If you want to change your time slot, add a time slot or update your color choices just click on the registration link and fill out the form again and submit with new values. Your last entry will override any previous entries.

Cancellations

If for some reason, after you register for the event, you are unable to attend please click the registration button above and complete the form again selecting "cancel" as your status. Please also post a note in this thread as the table above can take some time to update.

Delaying or Restarting Race Start

Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will only be restarted in these cases:
  • Multiple drivers report a black screen/hang, instead of the 3-2-1 countdown.
  • One or more drivers get disconnected before race-pace has begun ("GO" for grid-starts, end of formation lap for rolling starts).
  • Steward realizes there is a condition that would lead to an unfair or poor race experience.
Once the race countdown timer has started, the race will explicitly NOT be restarted for:
  • Latecomers, even if you've registered
  • Driver realizes he picked the wrong car parts (ie, tires) or driving options (ie, Auto tranny)

Might open a lobby tonight if I am happy with my final TT attempt. Off I go now!

Thank you for making an event at Spa as I requested in the Suggestion page, but I stand a snowball's chance in hell that I will be able to race in it. (wedding anniversary)

Will there be support/supplement races on the off days? (like a Red Bull Junior race to represent the GP2 Series during Formula 1 weekends)

Ok if you let unimportant things in life get in the way of WRS, then it's on you optic :D

PD: Just tried a few offline laps. No tuning yet. If the idea was replicating a Formula 1 car's performance, you guys did a great job. The choice of tires seemed odd in paper but works just fine. Ds3 users be ready for one heck of a drive, this is the only car in the game I drive with auto transmission, great idea to allow LSD settings...

Just tried the combo - Great! The CS Tires will make the race controllable! With stronger tires it's a hardy to stay clean I guess, but thats a great still killer fast car!
Will register as reserve for now, as I might be on a MTB DH Trip - but weather depending!

Nice lap time @et_ . Aero makes a huge difference on this car, I think in the few laps I ran up to 15 mph at the end of the long straight (min vs max aero).

I will be opening a lobby later tonight. Need to get up to speed!!!! Approx 10PM Central

I am going to have to do quali with a steward Saturday night if possible. I have a commitment that I can not miss (one daughter's birthday and the other has a college soccer match). If I choose group quali over those I am in the dog house for the rest of the week, maybe longer .

Anyone have any tips on how to drive this thing? The steering seems so non-linear and unpredictable that I'm having a really hard time just staying on my line. Not sure how I'm going to be able to stay clean in traffic :scared:

Practice room open. It does not take long to get up to speed with this combo. Trust the grip!

How's Bart's Tune? Too alienish?

I am using it! Just need to trust the car will grip! I am fond of turning the car with my right foot and Bart's tune allows that! I just need different gears! I should be on again later this evening N/A time!

Al

Same here I just gave it a quick try. Amazing what the car will do. But I think I messed up the gearing because I was topping out at 290 kph short after Au rouge...Adjust it to auto setting at 340 and top at 320 I guess...
Anybody could post a map of the track please? I know most names of the turns but some I don't and it's easier to talk about it
Forgot we had official practice tomorrow! Disregard my previous post fellows

To do the transimission, reset to default, set final to far right, top speed far left. Then set the gears like Bart did, but set final to around 5300 - 5350 or so(final gear should be last thing done). Any further adjustments after this, just adjust the final gear. This will allow you to not redline at the top speed. He had final set for Monaco, which had nowhere near the top speed that Spa does.

I'm probably going to run auto (It's the only car in the game I feel more comfortable this way) do the settings work anyway?

Yes it will work, the only problem I see with auto is that the car will not shift until it gets to the red line. I think it is slightly faster to shift earlier (not exactly sure if this is true or not, it just feels faster to me). If you see at the end of the long straight your car never gets to 7th gear, increase the final gear, this tightens the gears and there will be shorter shifting periods. The other thing is if you adjust aero, your top speed will change a lot in this car. So once you find an aero you like, you may have to adjust the transmission settings to accommodate the aero. One more thing, eventually you want to get in a room with someone and draft with them on the long straight to make sure you will not hit rev limiter with your settings. Higher aero makes the car faster in turns, but you give up some on the long straights. I am still trying to find the sweet spot. You might even use a different aero for quali, as you will not have to run as long as the race.
