Count me in the the drinking contest! Although I'm going dry after today, so I guess count me straight out again. Had too much recently.

^ bad spelling/grammar unintentional but apt, given the description.

I think my question got lost in all the 'submitted and accepted' posts so I'll ask it again here.

How much extra work would it be to produce a hypothetical division placement based on each track alone? Given how different they are, I'm sure it would be interesting to see which combo ended up pushing one up and dragging one down.

I think we pretty much do that for each combo, by showing the handicapped results at the bottom of the post. Are you thinking something compiled, with all the results from each track?

I think Dan's asking about the qualifier tracks and results.

I'm not asking for qualifier results, I'm asking for something like (bolded):
GTP_xxx placement D2Bronze (hypothetical placement on qualifier one and two: D2G +D3G ).

Right, understand. And also understand that it would be interesting for everyone to see.

One of the advantages of this 2 lap system with a handicap (and not laptimes) shown, is that it makes it more difficult for people to "reverse engineer" the divisional cutoffs. For that reason, we will not be sharing an analysis of each separate combo.

I will say that we have been watching and analyzing submissions as they have come through. And that in general, the ranked order of each individual lap compares reasonably to the overall ranking. There are some outliers, for sure, but that was part of the point of choosing such drastically different combos. Some people perform markedly better on one over the other. (And that "other" is NOT consistently the same). It might be that their placement is still not precisely correct, but it IS better than it would have been if we only had one combo or the other.

A statistic that might be interesting and that, I believe, would not reveal anything about the cutoffs, would be the distribution of the absolute time difference (or the difference squared) between the two combos.

There were 145 events in GT5 and I don't know how many we'll get in GT6 before GT7 comes out. You can slice and dice everyone one of them until your hearts content. We will be releasing your handicaps based on the combined time of both qualifiers and that's it... When GT7 is released and we close the GT6 registry we can publish the times and you guys can play. Hey, it should only be about 12-18 months if all the rumors are right.

With all this statisical analysis talk, would it be possible to put some extra fields into the individual stats on the leaderboard? For instance in my personal results is it possible to show how far back I was from #1 overall and #1 in my division? Sort/filter by drivetrain or track?

In another thread in the general on line racing leagues forum, there was talk of a competition between age groups. I am not sure how this would work, but it might be fun. You would have to give us over 50s a handicap against the young guys to make it fair. ;) It could be a race, like you did between countries, or a time trial. I am not sure of the format, just an idea.

Honestly, I posed a question to the admins about this a month ago. We could include it as a "side competition" during any normal TT once in a while (or just one time). So the main/individual overall/divisional competition works as normal, but in addition we would create a "group based / team based" result table that would aggregate all those who wish to participate in the team side. Their normal time/handicapped time would contribute to a team average and then teams could be ranked (straight and handicapped).

In this example, the team would be age group, but there could be other weeks where those groups are based on region or even ad hoc teams built among friends, etc. It really doesn't change the individual/division based competition at all and would be optional. Drivers would opt-in a team or just run independent as they do now and all drivers that submit would obviously be a part of the individual competition regardless. It's really just a separate roll up of the same numbers for fun to add a small team angle once in a while.

Anyway, we have no definite plans to actually implement the idea, but I'll continue to work on it and see if there is any traction.

@WRP001 You'd get my vote as it sounds like a brilliant idea especially as we'd get the additional motivation to participate in order to keep our designated team scores up....brilliant incentive to do more TT's and it would add more enjoyment for very little additional effort.

Cool, if more people like it we can give it a whirl... As you say there is really little extra effort except to track teams (easy with our google forms infrastructure) and aggregate the results in a different way (simple spreadsheet). It wouldn't be built into the official leaderboard, just something we would paste into the results thread after the normal results.
