Those are out of bounds, Gayle, should be clear from the pics in the OP.

The boundaries are always an issue here, so I'm going to make an example of myself. DON'T DO THIS!

In GT5 Week 18, before I was annointed a Mod, I submitted a lap that was too close for comfort:

It took @WRP001 about an hour to review and some Admin discussions, and I really should have submitted the slower/cleaner lap. :ouch:

Nice combo even for someone who doesn't like Monza that much, like me :) Car suits the track very well and has much more grip then i expected at first. But still a mean machine and still though to handle if you want to string a good lap.

27.150
1'00.933

Does it surprise you if i say my last sector sucks, just like i predicted

Got back on the track and ran a clean lap.
28.100
1'03.750
Liking the car/track better.

Splits almost identical to my previously posted, but I manged to clean up the finish a bit, and cut off 7 tenth at the finish line.

27.550
1'02.284

Still leaving too much out there, so I'll be back for more later.

Fun combo. The kind of fun you have while trying no to fall from the saddle combo. Will post some splits tomorrow.

Hard combo. I still need to get used to it. It took a while to make a decent lap.

27.700

I think I'm starting to figure out the first chicane, I've thrown away several 27.1s. I like the video examples, here's my take on it.

I think leaving it in 5th gear helps with engine braking. Also get on the brakes a little early, just past the red armco, with a smooth application then ease off still in a straight line as you near turn 1, shift to 1st gear, just a hint of trail braking as you turn in at ~50mph. Then coast through, shift to 2nd, partial throttle until past turn 2 rumbles, straighten the wheel, shift early into 3rd and gas it.

With 800hp on sport tires, this combo requires smooth gradual control use, going 'slower' to go faster. That and enough patience to not throw your PS3 across the room screaming maniacally.

Decided to start this combo since it's too late to make any serious effort in Week 1. Here are some very early splits (<10 laps):

27.267
1'01.300

The car's a handful, but then I prefer the tricky-to-handle cars :D

27.333
1'01.367

MUCH faster T3, more than 0.7 found. Messed up in the second chicane and lost about 0.15.

A LOT of time left on the table in the early run...

28.504
1'04.654

These will do for tonight:

27.366
1'01.166

Lost over 0.1 in T3 by skidding in Parabolica.

The first chicane is currently eluding me; even my quickest is only a tenth faster. Hopefully I'll eventually get the hang of it...

First few laps just to see how tameable this car is. The acceleration is immense!

27.816
1'02.750

Alright, I'm probably going to feel a bit stupid for asking this, but I'm really badly at a loss right now. What am I doing wrong with the braking in this videoclip?

As you can see, I'm pretty much in a straight line when I'm applying the brakes, but the car just starts to drag towards left or right. In the clip shown I am holding my wheel absolutely straight from the start of braking, to the end of it, eventhough it probably looks like I'm performing some wild left-right steering dance towards the end of the straight.

I've been in Monza for nearly 3 hours now, and about 96% of my tries look like that, and I'm kinda desperate for help now. I know I'm sort of a beginner, but after restarting for about 400 times I can assure you, I'm not turning the wheel when that happens.

As a sidenote, my wheel does have an area of about 50-60 degress (25-30 on both sides from the default position), where it's really loose and has no resistance at all. It's also making a faint clicking noise when those weird things happen, so I'm not sure if it's trying to do, or if it's doing something that I'm unaware of.

I've never made, nor posted a video before, but this "problem" is really driving me crazy at the moment. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, you can also call me stupid if you want.

You have to correct the car position slightly while braking, once in a while it will go very straight but you have to be very precise (at least on my G27) to keep it very straight, but i had to do corrections on most attempts.

if you leave the wheel straight that car will move from left to right like that its normal. Once you get the feeling of it its easily manageable. :)

EDIT: Tree'd, thanks Mike. :dopey:

No one's going to call you stupid. ;)

It's just how the car brakes, you need to counter-steer to keep it in a straight line.
Your wheel is probably trying to convey that the front wheels are being tugged one direction or the other,
when one side gets a better bite on the tarmac.

Maybe higher ABS would lessen the veering, I haven't tried it.

I've been having the same trouble - you're not stupid. I'm struggling 6 out of 10 times to keep it off the grass under braking, because even just a single tyre and I'm screwed, I need to restart the lap.

I honestly can't say what to do, because I've been experiencing it too - the wheel wants to fight with me and I can't always get it to stay in a straight line when I brake.

And I have 8 8 brakes, so even brakes that are the same bias doesn't seem to be the issue, it did it with uneven brakes as well.

That's an odd one. I haven't noticed anything near that bad with my setup running no aids and the standard 5/5 bias, even when I lock up a wheel.

That dead zone sounds extremely high. Could that have something to do with it?

Thanks for all the tips to my post so far. And the "call me stupid" -part was thrown in as a little joke to compensate all the seriousness going on in that one.

I just feel like I've tried everything, my explanation or the video doesn't really show a huge variation in my attempts, just something I put together rather fast. I've tried correcting the position very gently, but too often that yields the same result as in the video. I'll give that one more pratice though, and maybe even try it with a higher ABS setting. It's just when you've given it so many attempts, it easily leaves you with the idea that you've tried absolutely everything.

About the wheels deadzone; yes it seems quite high. It's actually not that bad when I start playing, but about after maybe 30 minutes the wheel starts to "loosen up" and the deadzone grows too, I have no idea what's causing that. I just don't want to blame the wheel first as my driving skills are far from perfect too.

You can try running lower brake bias on rear like 3 on rear and 5 in front, it will stay more planted but might turn-in slightly less at time, when you need it. more brake bias dont seem to help braking distance with that car, but id need to test more i only did one session yesterday :)

@Deton At 0:06 in your video there's a road on the left before the first meter marker, start braking just before it using 80-90% brake only. It should keep the car a bit more settled, and pull you up nicely for the chicane.
