Just finished a very frustrating 10 laps (I think I made 2/3 clean laps)
I could still knock off upto .5
G25 should arrive in the morning so I shall see how I get on.

If you've never used a Logitech wheel with Gran Turismo, don't raise your expectations that you'll be bang on the pace and faster with it compared to Sixaxis straight away, especially on such a tricky combo.

There's usually a settling period where you have to almost learn to drive again, but it's well worth it 👍

All the best

It'll be the first time using anything but a pad on any game.
I'm not expecting to be at the same pace for a while but hopefully when I get used to it I'll end up getting faster.
I'll probably end up doing my fast laps on the controller while practicing like crazy on the wheel untill I can get about the same laps.

How long did it take you to get used to a wheel when you first swapped over?

If you want to get used to the wheel and really make the most of it, put the Sixaxis away. For good.

All your questions answered here ;)

I notice its your own thread ;) lol
Anyway thanks alot I'll go give it a read (especially seeing how fast you are with a wheel now)

Heh yes it is a thread I started, but you'll see some invaluable contributions from top drivers like CarlPKY who started out on Sixaxis, changed to wheel and is now D1 gold 👍

That's seriously interesting. Could you let me know how you get on after a while? (maybe a PM or something if you can!) I'd be very interested to hear. I am planning on getting a G27 quite soon.

I always like to break it down into 1) Line selection and 2) Line execution. I think for a lot people, so much time could be found from better line selection. But I believe using a wheel probably makes line execution easier. One reason is obviously because the wheel has a greater range of motion, and thus is more suitable. Another big reason is because the pad throttle is non-linear for no good reason (maybe for a bad reason), which is really a big problem on the pad.

Because of the throttle problem, I struggle with the car placement, especially on corner-exit. Pretty much the whole way round the lap I'm not able to place the car exactly where I want. So this will probably be one gain for me if I move to a wheel. But of course, transferring the coordination to arms/feet I'm sure takes a lot of time.

I just read all of your updates per day/weeks/months.
I found it very interesting, atleast it lets me know that I could (if I'm actually good enough) find more time over my pad use.
Its also nice to read that you found the wheel ALOT more fun too even if you were slower at the start. PM'd you a question.

Yeah sure I'd be glad to let you know how I'm getting on. I would suggest reading the Synwraiths thread, https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=115679
It was actually a good read & very well done & you might want to read it from his point of view aswell with him starting in D2 & ending up in D1 whereas I'm only in D4 so his skill level would match you rather than mine.
If that makes sense?

It's actually more of a diary than a thread. ;)

Yeah you have a point actually but shh :P

(Sorry for the essay length reply)

Wow, I'm really finding my groove with this one.

I can't remember the last time I was on top of the D2 leaderboard this late in the week, so I'm sure Phillip and Dan will blow past me soon. :dopey:

54.601
1:39.964

I lost grip on the exit of Degner 2 and Spoon, so there's still a bit of room for improvement. ;)

Fantastic time Kevin. (Blow past me soon)

Nice to think you believe that Kevin, but I don’t think I will as my tuning ability is not up to much, as you have seen over the weeks I never do to well on the tuned events.:grumpy:

Now forget all this writing malarkey down to the hard work, don’t know about the blow by, maybe slip by on the back straight.👍

Phillip.

Oh, how fondly I remember Maz's pre-G25 days when he and I more or less were on the same pace

Some new splits:

Yeah, I remember running against him at Fuji in the M3 in Event 02. I actually had a chance. Event 03, my only chance was the draft and a big mistake from him. Didn't happen. Now I'm lucky if I can see his taillights for more than a lap.

Just to keep you on your toes :sly:

Sorry Kevin, I slipped by on the back straight as I was trailing you to T1

I knew my splits would provide you the needed motivation.

Adding insult to injury, you did it while I was asleep. :sly: (Although the same was probably true for you when I made my move. :P

Now how much did I pay YOU to say that

Nasty slide out of Spoon, had to come right off the gas. Still 0.1 left to find and that's it for me 👍

Very nice splits. Have you tweaked the TLD tune at all? If you find that 0.1 then I'm gettin Carl on the phone!

I spent a few hours this morning with the car setup and came up with these settings, that make the car 'feel' better for me. Feel free to try it and to change anything.

Power: 397 (+18)
Weight: 901: (85)
Tyres: R3/R3

Ride Height: -22/-20
Springs: 10/10
Damper: 10/10
Toe: -0.10/+0.13
Camber: 1.5/1.5
Brakes: 6/9

Turn Angle: 45
TC: Off
ABS: 1

Gears (As per TLD)
1st: 3.418
2nd: 2.550
3rd: 1.874
4th: 1.441
5th: 1.136
Final: 2.860

This setup has yielded these splits for me, with some more to come off with better driving:

54.236
1'39.272

I have to go to Wellington tomorrow for a conference on Monday and Tuesday, so I may have to submit with these splits, but I'll try to have another go to reduce the damage to Maz. Those splits are just gobsmacking Maz! 👍

Camber: 1.5/1.2
Brakes: 8/9 (also used 7/8 a lot)
Turning Angle: 35

Gears:
1st: 3 point 418
2nd: 2 point 550
3rd: 1 point 841
4th: 1 point 438
5th: 1 point 136

EDIT - Dammit Fetchbot, don't take my gear ratios!

I'm new to the wrs and really struggling to get decent times. I can get low 57 in t1 and around 44 dead at t2 but just cannot seem to take anymore time out of these. I will try the new settings from above to see if that makes a difference. I've probably only done around 40 laps so far,
obviously practice is the key, also what speeds to people obtain while maintaining speed through the esseses?

GTP_dhandes

SidSid welcome to WRS, see you've been a member for some time, don't worry to much about your times just do your best, I was in D4 at the start, just keep at it you'll get there. 👍

Just enjoy and have fun.

Phillip

The key to the esses is smoothness and taking a line different to what feels normal, if that makes sense. I'd recommend looking at some of Dan's (holl01) videos on Youtube of Suzuka for lines, etc.

Improved last night.

Not happy at all with the car or the lap :D

I'm sure it will all click eventually. I've had a g25 for a while now,got It when nfs shift came out, it didn't use it much until I signed up for the wrs just over a week ago. I am currently running automatic, stability on , abs 1 and tc 0. And simulation mode.
How much time am I likely to be losing due to the fact I'm running auto and stability?
Just looking for general advice to be honest, I read the topic about maz and his efforts with a g25, obviously I'm not as good as most here, just would.like some pointers!

Thanks!

First left hand ess I have apex speed of about 98 to 100mph, then right I have 79-80mph, next left about 90mph, then last ess enter at about 96-97 and brake/coast to about 72-74 and throttle out 👍

You're definitely losing time by running Automatic and stability, depending on your driving style and the length of the circuit, it could easily be more than a second and a half per lap I guess?

All the best

Slight update..

Basically got my tune to where i want it now, took me three frustrating sessions but i can finally start attacking the lap. Lines need improving, apex speeds, braking zones etc.. Looking forward to seeing what i can achieve now :)

By the way I'm using an, ... 'unconventional' tune this week. I'll be ecstatic if i get a good result!

New (finished setup) splits:

T1: 55.017
T2: 1'40.757

Just had a cheeky 5 laps:

T1: 55.098
T2: 1'40.244
