GTPlanet ITCC Driver's Meetings (pre- and post-race)

In your defense, that whole start was šŸ¤¬. It wasn't entirely your fault, that Danny screwed your start over.

I want to apologize to MrM for taking him out in Race 3 and for blocking Polar in either Quali or Race 1 ...

sorry to polarbear and nizmo, for contact in race 1 lap 11 turn 1, got caught out by a back markeer and cliped polarbear, who binned Nizmo as a result
didnt no it was my fault at the time but the replay showed it was, and the two pics show the dent in polarbears back bumper perfectly matches the one in my front bumper, oh and the fact that suddenly he has a load of tyre smoke

Sorry Diddy but what back marker? If I was a lap down (which I was not) I could understand ... but we all had our position until you decide to dive bomb Polar and me ...

Right ho, time to begin my list again.

Obvious mistake first, my bad for the start of race 2 with the 5/10 mph advantage.

Sub-list Polar:

Race 1: Lap 4 2nd hairpin & Lap 5 1st turn sorry for the contact

Race 3: Lap 4 (sub list in itself)

- 2nd hairpin sorry for the contact, where I think you may have been slowed down by the car in front of you

- 2nd last turn, I hit the grass lost control and rammed you costing you a place to johnny. terribly sorry

- last turn, not sure about this one but either way, sorry about the nudge outside of the corner. not sure how you ToS want to see the pass I was ahead before the contact, after seeing polar seemingly off the racing line. Anthony Davidson anyone?

Either way, sorry for all those Polar.

Race 1 - Lap 9 - Turn 1: Sorry for the contact on Smog, was avoiding cnd who had just exited the pits (as in giving a lot of room for cold tyres)

Race 2 - Lap 5: - Turn 1, after misjudging the corner after wanting a cheeky over and under on Nizmo (I believe) I came back onto the racing line, swiping Storm. It was glorious. Anyways, enough banter, my bad fella.

- Pit lane, did I go in too late and extremely (even though I knew Nizmo was too far behind to be physically affected).

Ok. Any other incidents, PM me or whatever and I'll watch it over

I like the transparency and unbiased opinions the competitors show on this thread. I respect each and everyone of you guys more and more the longer I race. Looking forward to the next round.:)

^^This, is what I meant to create, when I made this thread. I meant to make a place to discuss accidents, apologize, and be friendly. Anyone who gets worked up too much about a crash, certainly doesn't understand that there can be as many as 16 drivers on track, and we're all in one class. šŸ¤¬ happens. And, it's going to happen a bit more often, with this many cars on track. But, you, and you alone, are responsible for your conduct.

I was in one "accident" this weekend. I tried to pass on the outside, and Nizmo had an off in front of me, so I hit the brakes and avoided contact. Sure, I could be mad "Nizmo, why did you spin in front of me?" but, that wouldn't get anywhere. He didn't choose to spin. I understand that. Instead, I could've tried to anticipate that, and positioned my car differently, to capitalize on the fact that the outside lane was blocked.

That's the way everyone should think "What could I have done differently, to avoid my own little crash there." And, sometimes you'll be in crashes where someone else doesn't consider it, but, don't call him out in anger on the thread. I'm learning to control my temper, as much as everyone else. But, if that crash was intentional, and a penalty is warranted, a penalty will be given.

If an apology is given, then the Team of Stewards might assess the crash differently. Instead of "well, this driver wanted to win so badly, he put the other driver off," we might see "this driver simply didn't see the other driver." It doesn't guarantee that penalties won't be given, but, it will improve your standing among your peers, and fewer negative rivalries will begin.

Can we get a current update posted here as soon as the rule particulars for Suzuka are finalized? By that I mean:

1. Full start protocols for each race. Single file, double file, standing start, where do we stop to line up, when do we get to full throttle, at what point are we allowed to pass legally...etc?

2. First corner particulars. Are corners one and two going to be considered separate corners as far as passing goes, meaning you can legally get overlap between the two and make a pass, inside or outside going into corner 2? Or is it going to be considered one corner and if you have no overlap entering the first corner you follow behind unless the person in front makes a mistake that warrants passing? The former is the "safe" option and greatly simplifies the job of the ToS as passing between the 2 corners is always questionable insofar as determining overlap goes.

3. Any particulars about the rain/weather settings that you can make available? Any tire changes either mandatory or allowed during an official "rain" race? Is there a mandatory tire for the race or can we choose either intermediate or rain?

And can we get some posts on the main thread, directing everyone here to make sure all the drivers get to see all the rules changes all at once so no one can claim they didn't see them prior to the race?

My suggestion would be to reserve the first or second post of this thread for all the rule changes, both the individual track rules, and the general rules like the overlap passing rule, that are exceptions to the general GTP Rules of Online Racing. Putting rule changes in individual posts ensures that it eventually gets buried and some people will miss it. If it goes in the first post, everyone will get used to it being there and know for the next however many weeks, that's the place to look for rule updates.

That's all part of the plan. :) I'll edit the first two posts, and I will be sure to include all the changes.

Updated second post. Nice and brief this time. Not too many rules here. I want to work the start procedure out. It shall be perfect! NO EXCEPTIONS!

Ok so we just kinda trickle out of the original starting gate and get in order. This makes things a lot easier. Tire selection and minimizing runoffs will be key to winning race 1 & 2. I have extensively practiced different track conditions and I think I have a plan. :sly:

I have to give Jamie credit and should have posted this last week but he did make a contact concession in the first Tsukuba race last week. He got inside of me in the chicane on the the first race lap, knocked me into the grass, but the pulled aside to let me by after the hairpin. First and only contact concession I had seen up to that point by anyone. Kudo's for that.

Regarding the divebomb in the 2nd hairpin during the sprint race, thanks for the apology. I would have preferred it the day after but better late than never.

Your team mate Cnd and I have had a couple of very close battles in the last couple of weeks. It's not an exaggeration to say that from my perspective, Cnd is what the prototypical racer on GT5 should be. He races hard, he defends his line, he doesn't give an inch, but he does all of this within the rules, without contact, without divebombing, without swerving to defend. We have passed and re-passed each other numerous times and I have complete confidence that he's not going to do anything outside the GTP Rules and if at some point in the season we do come together, it'll be purely accidental and without intent.

Yesterday, in the final lap of the sprint race, I got inside Cnd entering 130R and because it was him beside me, I knew he'd give me enough room to hold the inside and hopefully he had the confidence that I'd give him enough room on the outside. He swung a little wide, but kept his foot in it and he outbraked me entering the chicane and was able to hold the position. It's that kind of racing that I come to GT5 for, hard but fair, and when you can find racing like that, winning or losing doesn't make much difference, although it's always a little more satisfying to win.

I don't have that same confidence level with you to be honest. You are clearly a highly skilled driver and I'm hoping some of Cnd's patience and respect for the racing rules will rub off on you. I'm not saying this stuff to pile on, really I'm not. I know it seems to some of the guys in this series and others that there are too many rules but those rules define what is expected of each other and make for good racing. I've never raced in a series before that said, "no passing until after the apex in the first corner". for example, but that's the rule so I respect it. And so, in the 6 lap sprint at Tsukuba you can clearly see me braking slightly early so there's no chance that I'll interfere with Mel and Storm making it through the corner cleanly. But it also appeared to me that you attempted to pass me on the outside of the first corner, but couldn't make it stick because you got onto the marbles with too much pace and had to brake to avoid going off the track.

I always try to default to the safe option and work my way through the pack capitalizing on mistakes other drivers make and benefitting from two or more drivers battling it out, not paying any attention to me, and it works quite often. Patience and consistency are the best weapons in my arsenal. I'd rather come out on the losing end of a multi-car battle and often have, than win but have my integrity and racing etiquette come into question.

I appreciate your support of me. I am in the same boat as you. I enjoy hard racing. We have had some really intense last lap battles. I am glad you reciprocate the same enthusiasm for racing hard and clean. If there were drivers that were driving like k1m in the regular season for real points then I would say either they go, or I would bow out from the series.

Will not happen. I promise. If anyone drives like that for one normal season round, they're out.

Also, I don't think Jamie could have a better teammate, to learn from and practice with. :)

Finally, I know what you guys mean. Once I have these videos up, and can prove how close the racing is... You'll all see what I mean about close AND clean racing. It's not about never passing anyone. It's just about leaving room when you do pass.

In the videos I'm about to upload, I feature quite a number of you, in Race 3, showing how Nizmo, Prodigy, Lancer, Damu and a few others perfectly demonstrate the idea. Lancer and I start and finish side-by-side :sly: and Nizmo, Prodigy and I go through 130R three-wide. Damu shows how to follow in the draft, while politely holding Sakery behind (nothing illegal) and trying to catch Johnny, who does a good job of ensuring that Damu doesn't close the gap.

Thank you for the best teammate comment. Make sure you include race three the last lap between me and Johnny.

I agree about the team mate bit! Shame im always slower than CND! :( lol

Find your rhythm. Once you know who brakes where, and who reacts well to pressure and who might crash under pressure... you'll find pace.

The first season of every series is similar. The drivers who have some background with the other drivers pick it up faster. Seth, cnd, Storm, Polar, Damu and I all have some history together.

Johnny and Evo have some history together.

You don't really have that history yet. You just need to build it.

There's an idea called "the Driver's Toolbox." Every driver has an imaginary "playbook" that teaches them how to race. Every time I race, I learn something and add it to my playbook/Driver's Toolbox.

For you, you might be at a similar pace, but you might be less practiced with passing live opponents. I've been karting since I was 9. I'm now 18. Half of my life, I've been passing/bump drafting/avoiding spins/being passed, and I've learned how to gain time while battling for position. I've learned how to go two, or even three wide in a corner, without even making contact.

Everyone who's just learning has really been doing a great job. Coming from someone with 9 years of racing experience, it should mean a lot.

My tip to you:

Build your Driver's toolbox:

  • learn to draft efficiently
  • Learn to judge your opponent's braking zones
  • get to know your opponents
  • Be friendly- trusting each other as drivers will help you cut seconds off of lap times
  • Learn from mistakes-if someone blocks you in qualifying, next lap make sure you have more room
  • learn to kerb hop. Don't cut the kerbs, but "rotate" the car, by getting the rear tires off the ground.

I would like to look at possibly adding a no passing zone in the turn right before the last hairpin. The road is simply too narrow for constant two wide action. The first turn, the chicane, is very narrow. We need to be real careful passing there. One wrong move and the whole field is stacked up.

Well, especially on the first lap, yes.

Johnny PM'd me with the details of a "Suggested no-passing zone." I think we'll use it. I'll allow passing, but if anyone crashes anyone else, while passing, it's pretty much guaranteed to be their fault.
