I was considering a Stratos, but I also like the 037 just as much, so it's between the two. It will make my brain explode soon.

How can you afford all of those die casts, Doog? And how can you find space? I'm looking at getting 1 or 2 1/18 cars, but I have no room.

So I'm settling with aiming to get 5 1/43 cars by the end of the year (Ixo MkII Escort rally, Sierra Cosworth rally, Bentley Speed 8, Autoart Viper Competition Coupe, and probably a Lancia of some description) and a 1/18 SRT Viper . Considering I already have two Team Oreca Vipers, I think my preference towards Vipers is starting to become evident.

I have a Speed 8 by Minichamps. It's a 1/43. It surprisingly doesn't have much detailed compared to the 1/43 Minichamps Audi R10 I have.

Do they have a red or black one?

I found a few black ones at my Costco the other day. I'm holding out for red, which I've seen pictures of, mostly because I feel like the black one won't look different enough from my black Viper in my lineup.

I wonder how many Bburagos they actually have available. There's a 997 GT3 RS in the catalog that I'd love to have. Wouldn't mind the Aventador or the Miura they make either.

I'm going for an Ixo Bentley, because Ixo's seem to be cheaper. I'm money tight, I'm getting them because they are between $20 and $25, probably about $16 and $20 US. Considering that Minichamps seem to be between $50 and $95 NZ, I'm sticking with Ixo.

As for the first part: my birthday falls right into that time of the year when Costco gets its yearly shipments of Die casts. I go to Costco with birthday money, and I leave with around 10 or so each year. It's worked like that for about 6 or 7 years.
And for the space part: I had to get creative. The first storage place was the two large bookcases in my closet. Eventually, those filled up, and I had to look elsewhere for storage. Luckily, when that was starting to happen, we got new furniture in the living room, one of which being a wall unit with closed cabinets on each side, each having three rows. That eventually filled up, so I had to make shelves within shelves using some wooden blocks. With the blocks in place, I could have three cars under the blocks, three cars that weren't too tall above the blocks, and one or two cars in front of the blocks.
As the process goes, that filled up too, but when I got my next batch of cars, I realized that the plastic frames that they come in would make a great alternative to the blocks, all the while being less bulky. I removed the blocks, and replaced them with as many plastic frames as I could, which were just as capable as the blocks, though it is tricky to place a car on top of the frames, due to their uneven surface. Then, several months ago, my mom cleared out a cabinet in the family room (it's actually behind the brown pot in the photo of all the Minis lined up by the fireplace), and I was able to fill it with cars as well. It's deep enough so that I can fit two rows of about six cars on each of its two levels, and for whatever reason, the first level of the cabinet is carpeted. With my most recent haul of cars, I was able to fill the cabinets in the living room with the plastic frames, and I now have some extra space left over for whenever I get more cars.

And now I painted around part of the headlights to make them look less cheap on my SRT Viper. Still need to somehow simulate the LED driving light strip though. Also need to add reverse lights to the lower rear bumper...

Wait, so how far does your collection span around the house? I'm reading things about family rooms and bedrooms and fireplaces, will every wall soon be lined with scale models?

Alright, let me try and simplify it. :P
The family room and the living room both have closed cabinets of some sort, where I store some of the cars. The cabinet where I store cars in the family room is behind the brown pot in this photo.

The family room is also where I take most of my photos of the cars. The other spot where I store cars, the original spot, is the bookshelves in my closet. So overall, it spans three rooms.

Now that's what I call organized. I'll keep this in mind when my 1:18s collection grows to outrageous numbers. :sly:👍

:dopey:

All of my car caches have doors of some sort, so with the doors closed, you'd never know what was behind them. :P

Ah, I do see now. That's actually pretty cool, I'm never going to have that many because I would be so paranoid whenever a guest is in the house, because if they bumped or smashed into where you're storing some not knowing what was in it (you did say you would never know they're in there)... I think I'll end up with quite a few 1/18 versions of my very favourite cars, and then aim for 1/43 versions of everything else, and 1/43 versions of the 1/18 cars (maybe different livery or colour). Mainly to save space.

Ah, but you see, I don't suffer that issue. The storage area in the family room is blocked by that brown pot, and the living room is really only for show anyways. And my closet is protected by flimsy, but not awful, sliding doors. Not to mention, the storage cabinets in the living room are a relatively big, heavy thing. If somebody bumped into it, they'd get hurt, not the cabinet, or its contents. :P

Yeah I got mine really cheap at this die cast store. I have a two car set of the 2009 WRC Citroen DS3's commemorating their Constructors Title and its an Ixo set. Their pretty good for the money.

Indeed, Ixo is an amazing value for the money, you get pretty good detailing for what you pay, and if you really scrounge around with the offer of the week feature in their website, you can grab some amazing stuff for peanuts, really. A friend just bought a Ford GT40 for 17, and man, it's awesome.

also, Venom, who makes that Oreca Viper?

I'm 95% sure it's an Autoart, I have an Oreca Viper myself, from 2002.

I like Vipers.

I like Vipers too, if all of your Vipers suddenly go missing, I didn't steal them. :P

I missed out on a 1/43 Competition Coupe so I'm waiting for another to appear.

Yep, it is indeed an AUTOart. Too bad they never used the GTS-R as a base to do the regular GTS though...
