You can find just about anything there. Corvette memorabilia, mattresses, Chick Fil-A, southwestern decorative stuff, and of course diecasts. It was quite a large booth there chock full of mostly 1/18 scale cars, but there were a handful of smaller sizes out front, and a couple of 1/14 or 1/12 cars. Of course, the markup was ridiculous (I saw a Maisto 1/18 Porsche there for 50 bucks when I got the same thing from Costco for 1/5th of that), but there was still a nice selection of high quality cars worth the price. Mainly 50s-70s American and European stuff, though there were some modern cars and Asian cars there as well. I didn't pay much attention to the brands but I saw Norev, Autoart, Maisto and Bburago in the mix. The DS 23 I picked up was 90 bucks, which I feel is a decent price for the car in comparison to the $115 Autoart Porsche 911 I have as far as quality goes. Good selection of cars overall though. I was having trouble deciding between two different 190SLs, a variety of Chevrolet trucks, and the Citroen.

Sounds like you had a good time. 👍

I know what you mean with ebbro and 1:43.
I really like their honda historic F1 cars.

Some model cars i got have become much more expensive, but that was not my motivation for collecting. I just collect the ones i like.

So do I, but that is only one of the reasons. Motives for collecting are often personal; I don't think there is any right or wrong way to collect. Personally, I think that it's the amount of enjoyment you get out of it that matters - so it's whatever cars that turn your crank - whether they be a $10.00 Maisto or a priceless Peugeot 203 made by Dinky. No doubt there is some status connected with the expensive cars, but then again the amount of money spent, and the way the collection is put together will speak for the true passion of the collector.

I made up my mind recently to also start focusing on the 1:43s; it seems to me the most workable scale for my own collecting needs.

......................it seems like 1:43 offers a lot of unexpected options with the savings to boot. They'd also be a bit easier to convince the missus about :P

Exactly my thoughts, too.

.................... I have a pretty substantial 1/43 collection myself :sly:

Missing a burnt orange AUTOart Lamborghini Diablo VT Coupe and a Spark Chrysler LMP that I got after I took that pic though...

Damn you. That's a nice garage. Now you have to take the picture again. We'll be waiting. :sly:

Supa mod post in thread, Thread doing fine and healthy, only time i usually see a super mod is when a thread is being close and they use a mod witty closing statement.

Mods?! :scared: Where?

Maybe the thread is healthy because there are mods in here.

But back on topic, it's ok to have a small collection, It's not really about the size it's about what you like.. just some people have been collecting for years on end(me included) you will get there eventually:tup:

One car is all you need to start a collection. After that - I think basically everyone has their own pace. I've seen impulse collectors, though - one's who take up the hobby suddenly, buy a huge amount of cars, then lose interest later and sell everything off for peanuts.

Here's a shot of my collection back in 2008.

 Must feel good owning that.

SEXY!!! If I ever collect something else than Porsche, that's what I want!

Yeah, Phil, you did a good job on capturing every delicious curve of that magnificent beast. Aston love, right away.

I got two of these Maisto 427 Cobras for Christmas - had to open one of course:

Not bad for a $15.00 model really. Rolls around, too. But not as fast as the Maisto 1:24 Gallardo. ;)

997/996/935/911 GT1/917 Long Tail/908/03 :D

Thats the best angle of it. :sly: Even though the actual model cost me about 80 bucks, it's something I'd never sell ever.

Just wish Autoart they made more Aston racers.

And man, you making me jealous with that 935 and Hippie 917, cool cars from the era. 👍

Some really nice cars in here guys - I won't quote them all.
Wrt the Aston - it feels a bit light though compared to other models.

Even my just acquired White Lotus Esprit Turbo weighs more.
I've been contemplating adding a bit of sheet lead to it to weigh it down.

It is very light, all AA's sealed models seem to be. I think its also because they use more plastic.

The lightest by far I have is the AA's sealed Esso Ultraflo Supra though. Lighter even than the more petite NSX.

Only the roof, rear quarters and bonnet are metal which might be the reason. :P

Which is a good topic to ask, what is the lightest model in your collections?

I tried later a Ebbro Calsonic IMPUL Z Super-GT'05 No.12.Ebbro #689.
That was 83 grams.

Than an 1:43 smts alfa romeo sz. To show it is heavy.

200 grams.

Tiny honda S2000

6 grams

Tiny honda ra272

2 grams

I also have this one.....Bought at a flea market voor a 10-er.

A sort of batmobile, scale? 1:10? Made by ?? Only two initials on the side SR.
Feels like concrete, but the top has the looks of leather(wich it isn't ofcourse). So if anybody knows anything about it, feel free to report it here .

Are they bought in Hong Kong?
I don't want to admit this, but it seems like you know about the city that I live in better than me.
I'm just asking if you know a store that sells Spark models in Hong Kong, that's all.

Kinsmart 1:38 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento:

Is that a pull-back?

Kinsmart make some pretty odd scales; here's one of mine, a 1:40 Porsche Panamera S. Moving parts as well as a very reliable pull-back engine, though not the fastest in my Kinsmart stable. Yes, I race these things. They're cars, right?

Below is a Kinsmart 1:32 2008 Audi TT Coupe. P/W ratio is awesome - this pullback can fly the fastest and the furthest. It didn't come with that livery, though. I aim to eventually customise it right, since it does give a fair bit of fun racing, and no other pullback in the garage can still beat it.

I bought them from Newace. :D

Kinsmart 1:38 Lamborghini Sesto Elemento:

Nice I have four cars from Kinsmart, a Nissan GTR, Shelby 427S/C, Lambo Mucielago LP-640 and a Lan Evolution VII GSR Rally Car.

I see that they make a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Grumpert Apollo, Nissan Skyline R34, Subaru Impreza WRC and a Mucielago LP-670 SV. Been trying to find these cars also, but no prevail. Gotta try different stores in other areas.

I get them from the grocery stores usually. But RCK where do you get yours at? Any local stores as well?

@photon: Hey Harry, nice collection of the Kinsmart cars. Same question, do you get yours from local stores or from online?

Hi Phil. No, I've never bought anything online - at least not diecast cars anyway. All my Kinsmarts came from an upper-line Hobby shop, they carried Autoart mainly but had a few other brands.

Unfortunately they closed down recently; it was like the Ye Olde Candy Shoppe at the corner suddenly vaporised leaving only a blank spot and some kids staring into space.

I took a quick shot as usual before they self-destructed:

I quite enjoy Kinsmart models, although they're probably the only diecast cars I can find in stores such as Rite Aid and CVS. Lucky you with your hobby shops. :P (Although that's a real shame that one went down Harry) Has anyone noticed the little suitcases in the back of just about every Kinsmart model?

I didn't know Kinsmart made a Sesto Elemento!

I do get them from a hobby shop in a mall just a walk away from home. The owner lives in the U.S. right now and he brings those things here in the Philippines.

That store also has these following Kinsmarts on sale:

Gumpert Apollo
Subaru Impreza WRC
Lamborghini Murcielago LP640
Nissan GT-R
Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
Mercedes-Benz 300SL
BMW M3 E92
Porsche 911 GT3 RS (997 Mk.II)

I'm jelly now! A hobby shop that actually sells AutoArts, I'm speechless 👍.... But I can't believe that they closed down, such a shame :(.

That's cool, everyone that has a hobby shop, I envy you guys :P. Now only if they have more in the States 💡..... And those are some of the cars that I'm looking for, the GTR and LP-640 is off the list and I'm not that keen on the SLS (seen it on the internet) but I may have second thoughts on it when I see one.

They are cool cars though, I drag mines sometimes though when I bored or thinking about something.

Edit: Love the Aventador. 👍

I have a question that this might be best place to ask since I can't find anything about it anywhere else.

Last weekend while I was in Daytona for Rolex24, a vendor had out a Brumos Porsche 1/64 scale transporter/hauler. Does anyone have any idea who makes it or where I'd track one down? I ment to ask or find out more but got side tracked at other models.

We had one here that had an entire wall of AA, with other stuff mixed in. Made the drive to visit there at Christmas only to find the place boarded up. :ouch:

It was a great place, and probably the only one around that carried Tamiya paints, Tamiya model kits, and diecasts in all scales (including planes and trains). Such a shame its gone, I really miss it.

I pretty much collect in 1/43 scale now exclusively. With that said;

Pre-orders for me;

Tecnomodel (2013) Aston Martin Vanquish [Baby Blue & and Silver] 1/43

On my radar;

BBR Ferrari SP12EC 1/43 (Coming Soon)
Tecnomodel Aston Martin DBS 1/43
Looksmart Ferrari F12Berlinetta 1/43
Minichamps Aston Martin V12 Vanquish 1/43
Minichamps Aston Martin DB9 1/43
Spark Aston Martin Virage 1/43

And really a host of others. I can never buy too many at atime, because the cost is really deep for this scale. The trade off of course is the amount of detail most 1/43 scale cars have. But the price is very steep, majority of the time. The least I've spent on any given model was $40, and that was a bargain.

I used to collect 1/64 scale (started with Matchbox, Hot Wheels, then went on to Kyosho), but 1/43 seems to have all I needed/desired in the collectables when it was all said and done.
